141  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Man kills sister after dispute over plot of land in Lagos on: 19-07-2014 10:35 AM
The incident allegedly happened at Rukayat’s residence, 22, Pasoku Street, Aga area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

Investigations found that Mr. Adeola murdered Rukayat in her room on Monday at about 6 pm, after they had an argument over the ownership of the disputed piece of land.

The night before the murder (Sunday), Adeola and his wife had visited Rukayat and dined with her. Rukayat was later found dead by her fiancé on Tuesday 15 July, at about 8:30pm.

A resident of the street who pleaded anonymity spoke to PM NEWS saying “We got to know of her death Tuesday night, over 24 hours after she was murdered. Her boyfriend only came to visit her on his way back from work when he found her dead and raised the alarm.”

After his arrest and interrogation by the police, Adeola said that he did not kill his sister intentionally.

“I didn’t have the intention of killing her, she was my sister. If I wanted to kill her, I wouldn’t leave the knife at the scene and I would wear a glove to prevent my finger prints. The incident happened when we were dragging,” he confessed.

Rukayat’s younger brother, Abideen Omotayo, however believes Adeola could not have killed their sister alone and would want the police to further investigate the matter.

“I have an inkling he did not kill our sister alone. He used to be a member of Eiye Confraternity when he was studying at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, but was expelled around 2008 because of his involvement in cultism,” Abideen said.

Some of the posts on her Facebook wall border on regrets for a promising lady cut down in her prime.

Bolaji Mustapha said he woke up with sadness over the death of his niece. “I woke to sorrow and sadness; my niece was murdered right on her bed… What has she done to deserve a death penalty? This is evil,” he wrote.

Salau-Adekola Funmilola Balqees wrote that no matter the offence she committed she should have been forgiven.

“No matter the offence you committed, they should have forgiven you and not murder you. This is cruelty of the highest order. We only find solace in the fact that God knows best. May Allah forgive your sins and be merciful to you,” she wrote on the wall.

Olajumoke Adelabu posted that Rukayat was a strong lady who went for the best. “A strong lady you were, always ready to withstand all odds. I still remember the last time we saw and all the interesting stuff we chatted about. Omotayo Adedapo Rukayat I wish you were allowed to attain more achievements,” Olajumoke wrote.
142  Forum / The Buzz Central / Is It True? 'Nigerian Pastors Need To Be Born Again' - Etcetera on: 19-07-2014 10:31 AM
Etcetera is back again. Do you agree with him this time?

“Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again” (John 3:1-7).

Pastors are supposed to be the conscience of the society. They are supposed to be God’s representatives here on earth. Like Elisha in the Bible, they are supposed to warn the people about the dangers of disobeying God and guide them to the path of righteousness. They are supposed to lead by example.

Today, some pastors are the problems of the society. The lifestyle of some pastors is contradictory to what they preach. It has got so bad that when a man introduces himself as a pastor, he attracts immediate suspicion. Scandals and controversies have eaten too deep into the church like an incurable cancer.

Like electric poles, churches are springing up all over the country and their general overseers or CEOs are fast emerging as the richest men in the country. Some Nigerian pastors represent their stomach instead of Christ. Churches have been turned into banks and business centres with branch pastors given targets for increased turnover by headquarters. Most of these new breed churches only preach prosperity because preaching salvation will impact negatively on the church’s GDP. Some of today’s pastors, after their failed attempts at finding a means of livelihood, hire a classroom and start a church.

Most Nigerians have been brainwashed to see their pastors as angels of light instead of the men of lies and hypocrisy they truly are. When I hear some of our so-called men of God talking, I hear a well rehearsed speech delivered with sugarcoated tongue. I see feigned sympathy and fake listening ears trying to milk their unfortunate audience. I see people being washed, rinsed, dried and ironed with rehearsed miracles wooing gullible Nigerians to their churches.

To some pastors, the church is no longer the stairway to heaven. It is more like the Lagos-Ibadan expressway to wealth. No trick is too dirty to enslave their followers. While many in their congregation cannot afford three decent meals in a day, pastors convey offerings to their banks in bullion vans. They use offerings to build schools their congregation cannot afford to send their wards to. They cruise about town in their exotic cars, and jet off to spend vacations in the most exotic tourist destinations across the world.

Jesus Christ fed the multitude with five loaves of bread and two fishes (Matthew 14: 13-21). He could have auctioned it to the wealthy and more privileged amongst the multitude but he asked his disciples to share to all without discrimination. Except for a few, the majority of pastors will not lift a finger to ease the sufferings of the poor in their congregation.

It was in the news how two girls from an Abuja church openly accused their pastor of having segxwal intercourse with them and his followers said, “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm.” A popular Lagos pastor has married and divorced more times than the randy king of Swaziland and his followers said, “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm.” I wonder what a pastor who cannot keep his marriage has to tell his members during their marriage counselling classes. A popular UK based Nigerian pastor who was to be arrested for tax evasion in the UK, fled to Nigeria to escape the authorities and his followers said, “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm.” A flamboyant pastor in Warri bought a jet when people in his community were displaced as a result of one of the worst flood disasters to hit this country. And his followers said, “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm.”

Rev. King the self-acclaimed “god” and “Jesus of our time” was arrested and charged to court for using a girl for human barbecue. And the 69-year-old grief stricken father of the victim lamented that he went to the church to see his daughter, and followers of Rev. King denied knowing her. But one follower later told him that she was Rev. King’s wife and was in the hospital. Getting to the hospital, he found his daughter Anna Uzoh on the hospital bed roasted. After a long inquiry, she revealed that Rev. King set her on fire. And Rev. King’s followers said, “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm.” Apparently, Justice Joseph Oyewole of the Ikeja High Court thought otherwise and sentenced Rev. King to death.

It was in the news sometime ago how a man stole money and confessed to giving it as offering to a church. When asked, the pastor said the money was given to God and can’t be returned. Things like this can only happen in a society like Nigeria.

Pastors should be judged by their words as well as their actions. This is a country where a pastor organises a healing crusade for his members but jets off to the United Kingdom the next morning for a medical check-up. In Nigeria, pastors pray and ask God to protect their members but employ the services of bodyguards. It won’t be a surprise when Nigerian churches get enlisted in the Nigerian Stock Exchange for the public to buy shares. It is a fact that when you scare people badly enough, you can get them to do anything. I wasn’t surprised to hear that a South African pastor ordered his congregation to eat grass, that it would bring them closer to God and of course, the members obeyed and ate to their fill. We heard of how a Kenyan pastor ordered all female members of his church to attend church services without bras and panties for Christ to enter their lives.

My brothers and sisters in the Lord, do not be deceived by these pastors. Seek God’s face, pray and read the scriptures and ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and interpretation. The Bible says you should study to show yourself approved. As I end this article, my prayer is that rapture takes place on a Sunday during first service so that all fake pastors will be caught pants down. Amen.
143  Forum / Sports / Nigeria's Ban From Fifa Lifted After Reinstatement Of Officials on: 19-07-2014 10:15 AM

FIFA have today lifted Nigeria's international football ban.

Earlier this month, the country were told no team, including domestic club sides, both male and female, would be able to play internationally.

This had threatened the participation of Nigeria's Women's Under-20 in next month's World Cup in Canada as well as the Super Eagles' African Cup of Nations defence, which starts in September.

The ban came in the wake of government intervention in its football federation when a court order compelled the Nigerian Minister of Sports to appoint a civil service member to run the country's Football Federation.

At the time, FIFA confirmed the suspension would be lifted "once the court actions have been withdrawn and the properly elected NFF Executive Committee, the NFF general assembly and the NFF administration are able to work without any interference in their affairs."

And today the governing body has noted this has been done and decided to lift the suspension.

A statement read: "FIFA has lifted the suspension that was imposed on the Nigeria Football Federation on account of interference.

"Fifa has noted that the court proceedings and order preventing the president of the NFF, the NFF Executive Committee members and the NFF Congress from running the affairs of Nigerian football that prompted the suspension have been withdrawn."
144  Forum / The Buzz Central / Chibok family release statement on aborted meeting with Jonathan on: 16-07-2014 06:19 PM
Press statement from representatives of parents of Chibok girls/survivors regarding the cancelled meeting between them and president Jonathan yesterday July 15th.

Quote
We the members of the Kibaku (Chibok) Community and representatives of the 12 fathers and 5 escaped girls who were hosted by Malala during her visit to Nigeria hereby speak on their behalf to offer to Nigerians the facts as they are and to put the records straight and correct the erroneous impression making rounds in the media on the botched meeting with the President:

#Bringbackourgirls group also released a statement regarding this

1.  The logistics and meeting between the twelve (12) fathers and five (5) girls and Malala was facilitated by the Abuja Chibok Community and the Citizens platform of BringBackOurGirls with our consent and on TRUST considering their sustained and focused advocacy to Bring Back our daughters.

2.  These parents and escaped girls did not come to Abuja at the instance of government or its representatives for a meeting with Mr. President but on the full understanding that they were coming to meet with Malala; an advocate of girl child education and most importantly one who has suffered a similar fate as their daughters’.

3.  That in the course of the interactions with Malala, NEITHER the parents nor the escaped girls asked for a meeting with the President or any government functionary, rather the narrative back home was to persistently ask why the President has not visited them in Chibok since the abduction.

4.  It is obvious that their numbers of 12 fathers and 5 girls is about 2% of the parents of the 219 abducted girls still with their abductors and the 57 girls that escaped. Therefore, these parents DECIDED on their own accord to review the announced visit, which they FIRST heard of like every other person during Malala speech in Hilton.

5. That consequent to their decision to revert to other family members in order to incorporate every stakeholder on the matter as well as avoid discord and suspicion on a change of plans from the original mission to Abuja, they reached out to the Malala team and through them to the Presidency; to request for a new date for an expanded and more representative meeting that has a legitimate mandate to meet with the President.

6. That their request is also in recognition of the huge opportunity of a meeting with the President for the first time and after over 90 days of the tragic abduction of their daughters, and therefore required better consultations, structure and formality as against an instant advocacy request.

7. That it is totally misleading, unjust and without foundation to hold the Citizens’ platform BringBackOurGirls responsible for the decision made by the 12 parents and our community. We therefore take full responsibility for our decision and welcome the formal invitation by the Presidency as a follow up to Malala’s visit which we received this morning.

Thank You.

Press statement from #bringbackourgirls conveners...

Response to Malicious Falsehood on Chibok Parents Visit to President Goodluck Jonathan

In the last 24hours, the #BringBackOurGirls Abuja family has observed with consternation the escalation of the pattern of the campaign of calumny by Government officials on our Citizens movement advocating for the rescue of the 219 school girls of abducted from Chibok Girls Secondary School, 93 days ago. The latest in this trend is emanating from the visit facilitated for the 11 parents and five escaped girls who were visiting Abuja to interact with girl-child education advocate Malala Yousafzai.

During the public speech by Ms. Malala she declared that she had received a promise by President Jonathan to meet with the 11 parents and five girls. The movement was not aware and neither was it part of the discussion of the said visit to our President.

However, at the BBOG daily sit out, our movement was informed by the Chairman, Abuja Chibok community of the outcome of a meeting held with officials of the Presidency in Malala’s suite (immediately after her speech). He conveyed that they were informed at that meeting of a the scheduling of the visit to the President for the eleven parents and five girls at 4.00pm on Tuesday 15th July 2014.

Although some members of the movement were surprised at the sudden invitation to meet with the President, our leadership concluded that session by emphasizing that it was the absolute right of the Chibok community to decide on the matter. It is instructive to note that majority of those at the Unity Fountain on that day were visiting from the Chibok community and were mostly the ones who vehemently expressed dismay at the information from the Chairman. He then clarified on the manner the invitation was conveyed to him and the parents at that meeting and reassured his community that he would schedule an emergency meeting to discuss the matter further.

On Tuesday 15th July 2014, the leadership of our movement were invited to a meeting by the Chibok Chairman and the leadership of their development association with the eleven parents in attendance. At the meeting they conveyed to us their unanimous decision to request for a rescheduling of the Malala facilitated meeting with the President. They further informed us of their intention to reach out to the Malala team and officials of the Presidency to request for an expanded meeting within a sufficient time frame for necessary planning with the rest of their community in Chibok.

We want to repeat for the avoidance of doubt that we are not responsbile for the cancellation of the meeting with the President by the 11 Parents and 5 escaped girls from Chibok as been insinuated by some Government officials

As a movement, we wish to seize this opportunity to express our gratitude to Malala who helped amplify the advocacy for concerted efforts towards the rescue of our girls.

Meanwhile, it is pertinent to firmly state that since the inception of our movement in April 2014, we have remained steadfast and adopted all means and channels of civil engagement in the advocacy of our singular issue, which is #BringBackOurGirls NOW and ALIVE
Signed

Igbo delegates have asked the Federal Government to pay N2. 6 trillion as reparation and compensation for the destruction of Igbo lands during the civil war which took place between 1967 to 1970.

According to them, millions of their people were killed and many of their states destroyed which brought hardship to Igbo survivors.

In a document titled: “Atrocities and Injustices against Ndigbo: Ohaneze demand for Reparation” which was circulated with the amendment to the proposed National Intervention Fund, the delegates  demanded that the Federal Government pay a total sum of N2.6trillion to South East States.

“The federal government should pay N400 billion each to the five states of the South East as compensation to those who lost loved ones and properties and those still suffering dislocation today in Nigeria. The same amount should also be paid to the government of Delta State for the benefit of Anioma area of the state”, they asked.

The motion was sponsored by former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Ike Nwachukwu, and 14 others. The Igbo stressed that the demand became imperative following the “atrocities and injustices committed against Ndigbo in Nigeria over a long period.
149  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 55 Jailed For Alcohol Consumption In Kano on: 15-07-2014 11:26 AM
The Kano State Hisba Board on Monday said 55 people were arrested and convicted for alcohol consumption in Kano during the ongoing Ramadan fasting.

The board’s Director-General, Alhaji Abba Sufi, told NAN that the convicts were apprehended last week following raids on their hideouts in Kano.

“All the 55 persons were sentenced to four months imprisonment without option of fine in order to serve as deterrent to others who might contemplate doing same.

“From those arrested, 50 of them were married men while the remaining five were women.

“Even if we are not in the month of Ramadan, nobody should take alcohol because the state is implementing Sharia law,” Sufi said.

According to him, the board has also arrested another 27 people for the same offence and they will soon be taken to the court.

He said the board would continue to raid the hideouts with a view to arresting them for prosecution.

On street begging, Sufi said the board had arrested over 400 beggars for violating the anti-begging law.

“We arrest beggars on daily basis but we release first offenders after warning.”

Sufi warned that any person caught in the business of begging would be arrested and charged to court, while beggars from other states would be repatriated.

Okiotor Dafiaghor (a.k.a. Dafphee), the ex-pianist at Rev. Chris Okotie's Household of God Church who took the man of God to court over unpaid earnings, speaks to Sahara TV about his time at the church. Dafiaghor claims Rev Okotie had a lavish relationship with Ms. Roli (Chief Bode George's wife and new NDLEA's Director) which made him finally quit the church.

"About a certain lady, Roli Adeniyi, that came up in the newspapers and said that she used to go out with Rev Chris Okotie. I know that this is true because I used to see things. We used to make excuses for him...like he's not really doing anything with them. You see a lady at 3am in his house and probably they are just doing prayer meeting and he's too man of God for that." He said

He said so much more. Like how Okotie bought Roli (his wife's friend at the time) two cars, rented two shops and a house for her and allegedly broke a few marriages.

159  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Man Arrested With Human Skull, ‘I Belong To Dey-Well Cult' on: 6-07-2014 08:05 AM
A 41-year-old suspected cultist, kidnapper and ritualist, Onwuzuruike Nwakaogwu, has confessed to his involvement in a cult group popularly called Dey-Well at Igwuruta village, Ikwerre Local Government area of Rivers State, just as he revealed the identity of the deceased whose skull was found with him as Victoria.

The suspect claimed his efforts at getting money from the skull yielded fruit before his arrest as he said that it used to spew out N10, N20, N50 notes whenever he poured ‘kain kain’ (alcoholic drink) on the skull before reciting incantations.

But his efforts at repeating the same act in the presence of Sunday Tribune after alcoholic drink was given him yielded no result as the skull remained as it was without bringing out money.

Speaking with Sunday Tribune on the arrest of the suspect, the Commissioner of Police in State, Mr Tunde Ogunsakin, said that SARS operatives, headed by Tunji Disu, a Chief Superintendent of Police, received an intelligence report on the activities of some ritualists at Igwuruta vilage in April, 2014. He disclosed that the Officer-in- Charge raised a team, led by Inspector David Ameh, and assigned it the duty of gathering more information on the activities of the suspected ritualists.

The commissioner said the operatives were able to get information about the leader of the suspected group in the person of Nwakaogwu in May but efforts to arrest him proved abortive as he was always on the run.

However, the security agents’ moves yielded fruit on Monday, June 23 when a combined team of Metro Intelligence, Metro Storm and Bomb Squad of C4One section went to the suspect’s hideout at Omuwenyi in Igwuruta village and arrested him, Ogunsakin added.

He said that items recovered from Nwakaogwu included a local pump action gun, four live cartridges and human skull surrounded by bitter kola and neatly kept in a corner of his one-room apartment.

“Upon investigation, it was discovered that the skull was that of a lady who was murdered by the suspect and his gang. The suspect also admitted to using the skull as a medium to get rich, claiming that the skull talked whenever he performed libation on it, and would give him naira notes in N10, N20 and N50 denomination. The suspect also confessed his membership of a brutal cult group ‘Dey-Well’, the police commissioner stated further, saying that investigations were still ongoing.

Speaking with Crime Reports at the premises of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nwakaogwu said he went for the head two years after Victoria was killed so that it could yield him money.  The commercial bus driver told Crime Reports: “It is true the police found the human skull in my room. I was the one who kept it there. The gun and live cartridges that they also found in my room belong to me. I am a hunter so I use them for hunting.”

On how he came about the skull, Nwakaogwu said: “I saw it in the bush about two weeks before my arrest. I was in the bush on ‘patrol’ when I came across the skull by luck. I know the lady to whom the skull belonged. Her name was Victoria and she was a tenant in our village. She was from Imo State. I learnt she went to steal cassava in the farm and she was beaten to death, after which she was roasted. The incident occurred over two years ago.

“I was not around on that day but learnt about it when I returned to the village. When I stumbled on the skull two weeks ago, I decided to pick since nobody was in need of it. I took it to my room and kept it there. Anytime I had alcoholic drink, I poured it on the skull, waiting for it to bring money that I could use.

“Since I got the skull, I had been able to get N4,000, but not at once. It used to be in N10, N20, N50 notes. I did not know how and from where the money used to come because I would have locked my door. I usually met the money on the floor in the corner of my room where I kept the skull. I surrounded it with bitter kola so as to prevent ants from destroying it.”

The suspect also confessed further: “I belong to Dey-Well cult group which I joined in 1995. I am an ordinary member. I joined the cult group so that I could get help from other members anytime I had problem. We help one another during ceremonies like burial.
