An argument between an 18-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy over a mobile phone ended tragically, when the girl allegedly stabbed the boy to death at Apowa, near Kwesiminstsim in Takoradi.

The teenager, identified as Rossetta Quarshie, has been arrested by the police pending investigations into the matter.

Quarshie is said to have engaged Kofi Bermah, the deceased, in an argument over her mobile phone. During the argument, she was said to have stabbed Bermah in the chest with a knife used by her to peel oranges she sold by the roadside.

The body of the deceased had been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Briefing graphic.com,gh about the incident, the Kwesimintsim District Police Commander, Supt. Ayamga Y. Akologo, said Quarshie was said to be selling oranges on Saturday night by the roadside at Apowa, near Kwesimintsim, when the deceased visited her.

He said the suspect said she placed her mobile phone on the table on which the oranges were displayed for sale. Supt Akologo said upon reaching the sales point of the suspect and as if he wanted to buy some of the oranges, the deceased picked Quarshie's phone and went away.

Supt. Akologo said the deceased then returned to the sales point with the phone hours later and handed it to Quarshie.

He said not quite long after, the two were seen engaged in a serious argument after the deceased had picked one of the girl’s knives to peel an orange. Quarshie , who was holding one of the knives, was said to have stabbed the boy who then fell down with blood all around his body.

On lookers then rushed the victim to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. The suspect, according to Supt Akologo, was later arrested and placed in police custody pending investigations into the matter.

124  Forum / Politics / Jul 31, 2012 at 12:28pm Speaker suspends Parliament without announcing Veep nomi on: 31-07-2012 01:42 PM
The Speaker of Parliament has suspended today's sitting of Parliament without announcing the name of President John Mahama's Vice-Presidential nominee, Citi News correspondent Richard Sky reports.

Ahead of today's sitting of the House widespread media reports had quoted various unnamed government sources as having said the President will cause his choice of Vice-Presidential nominee to be announced by the Speaker today.

It was to be in keeping with Article 60 (10) of the 1992 Constitution, which demands that, "The Vice-President shall, upon assuming office as President under clause (6) of this article, nominate a person to the office of Vice-President subject to approval by Parliament."

The reports were fuelled by the President's own comments on Monday that he will name his deputy before close of the week. But minutes after MPs corrected the votes and proceedings of last Friday's sitting of the House, the Majority Leader, Cletus Avoka, read out a detailed program drawn to ensure lawmakers participate in the one week commemoration of President John Atta Mills' death.

He announced among other things that a delegation of MPs will visit the private home of the late President to mourn with his wife, Naadu Mills.

Mr. Avoka also said a Parliamentary delegation will visit President Mahama later in the day to sympathize with him. The Speaker then suspended the House until 1:30 pm by which time sitting will resume.
125  Forum / Politics / I Organized 'Attack' On Prez Mills’ Convoy - Nii Lantey Vanderpuye on: 31-07-2012 01:39 PM
A Presidential Aide to the late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has stated that at one time, he organized an attack on the Presidential Convoy!

According to him, he organized a community to put up a barrier of stones, blocks, clubs and other implements to block the presidential convoy when the convoy was on its way back to Accra with a tired President!

Speaking on ‘Talking Point’, a political talk show program on GTV on Sunday evening, Nii Lantey, as he is popularly known, stated that he was responsible for inciting a community to erect barriers to block the presidential convoy in order to force the late President Atta Mills to come out of his vehicle to speak to a crowd of villagers, even though he knew that the President was tired and wanted to come back to Accra.

“I knew the people wanted to see the President. When I got there they told me they wanted to see the President…we had already concluded our schedule but these were people who wanted to see the President, so, as the man in the lead car, I told them to put up a barrier, to put stones and sticks and blocks on the road so that when the convoy gets there they would be forced to stop.

After I told them to erect the barrier, I took off! So when they (presidential convoy) got there they stopped and the President got down to talk to them. The President immediately realized that I was the one responsible so he called me on the network to speak to me but I refused to pick the call. I ignored him, but later, when we arrived, he pulled me into an office and warned me that I should never do that again,” Nii Lantey said.

He was giving a testimony as to the very ‘forgiving’ nature of the late President John Evans Atta Mills and used the rather shocking and macabre recitations above to demonstrate why the late President would forgive his associates any kind of crime.
126  Forum / Politics / December 2012 Polls Will Be The Most Peaceful- President Mahama on: 31-07-2012 01:37 PM
President John Dramani Mahama has said the government would ensure one of the most peaceful elections that Ghana had ever witnessed come December this year.

He stressed that the electoral process would be transparent, free and fair such that the outcome would be acceptable to all Ghanaians.

President Mahama said this when delegation from the People’s National Convention (PNC), called on him at the Castle, Osu in Accra.

The delegation, which included Dr. Edward Mahama, former leader of the party, Alhaji Ramadan, Chairman and Hassan Ayariga, presidential candidate of the PNC, was at the Castle to express their deepest condolences on the demise of late President J.E.A. Mills and to pledge their support for the new President John Mahama.

President Mahama stated that though the late President Mills was a man of many sides, he would be fondly remembered for his peaceful and tolerant nature. “He will go down in history as one of the people who consolidated the nation’s democracy.”

Government, he said, would seriously consider calls from sections of the public to immortalise the late President Mills as a fitting memorial, after the funeral activities.

“Others have suggested a library while some have suggested a statue, we will take into consideration about finding a means to immortalise him,” the President said.

He thanked the PNC delegation for their empathy and show of support by their flagbearer when he went to meet the late President Mills as he returned to Ghana after under-going medical check-up in the United States of America.

Dr Mahama, after narrating his encounters and experiences with the late statesman said, “We should not wait long to do something concrete to immortalise him, if we recognise him, other politicians will see that a good name is better than riches…let’s find a way to celebrate his life.”

Mr Hassan Ayariga, on his part, said the late President was a man who saw Ghana first before any other person. “He showed us how to be tolerant, honest and how to live together as one nation.”

“It is time we appreciated our illustrious sons when they are alive rather than when they are dead,” let’s sacrifice everything and wish him peace as we go through the 2012 general election,” Mr Ayariga added.
127  Forum / Politics / Mills' Wife Shocks Rawlings...As She Sacks Him From Their Home on: 31-07-2012 01:32 PM
As the nation observes the week of the death of President J.E.A. Mills, former President JJ Rawlings had the shock of his life when Dr. Mrs Naadu Mills yesterday asked him not to step into her home at the Regimanuel Grey Estate in Accra.

The former President yesterday sneaked out of his residence to go and pay a courtesy call on the otherwise quiet widow, whose husband he ‘bad-mouthed’ on international platform upon hearing of his death.

The Enquirer newspaper was reliably informed that when former President Rawlings got to the house, the members of the National House of Chiefs, led by Prof. Naa John Nabila, were already at the residence to console the bereaved former first lady.

The Enquirer’s flawless sources present at the private residence of the late President said when word got to the widow, she asked Prof. Nabila to go and diplomatically tell the former President not to step anywhere closer to her house.

The late President’s wife is said to be still shocked at what former President Rawlings said about the man he brought into the political limelight.

Although, the former President’s office was quick to make a u-turn by apologizing for his comments, he went ahead to write other more damaging remarks in his tribute in the Book of Condolence.
128  Forum / Politics / Hidden Secrets...Prez Mills Was Sent To The Maternity Ward... on: 31-07-2012 01:26 PM
Information available to the Daily Guide newspaper indicates that President John Evans Atta Mills might have died before arriving at the 37 Military Hospital where he was rushed to after he slumped at the Castle a week ago.

Sources said the late president got to the health facility at around 1:35pm unannounced, looking pale and cold when he was examined in the ambulance van that took him to the hospital. The sudden death of President Mills is generating issues, with some calling for an autopsy report.

The sister of the president, Mercy Araba Quarshie, said she and other siblings were with the president just a few minutes before his departure. According to Madam Quarshie, the family members had visited the Castle on the morning of last Tuesday and dined with him before he told them that he was having a neck pain.

"President's Siblings"

The president’s sister told Oman FM yesterday that they prayed with President Mills and later sang gospel songs with him while sending their last brother, Samuel Atta Mills, who lived at the Castle with the departed president, to buy cervical collar (neck brace) to support his neck. By that time, according to Madam Quarshie, his doctors had attended to him and left.

She said after that, they left for Cape Coast around 1pm only to be told 15 minutes later by Dr. Cadman Mills that the president had been rushed to the hospital. By that time, they were already at Kasoa and within a short distance of reaching Awutu Senya, they were told that President Mills was gone.

President Mills died a week ago and the one-week gathering will be marked today with a minute’s silence across the country. Some, including former President Jerry John Rawlings, have a strong belief that if a true disclosure of Mills’ health had been made, he could have survived a little longer.

The issue of the president’s health had been the subject of considerable speculation and concern but his handlers constantly assured Ghanaians of his sound health whilst skeptics insisted there was more to the deteriorating health of the president.

Sources at the Castle have started revealing details about events leading to his sudden death to Daily Guide.

Information has it that on the evening of Monday, July 23, 2012, a day before his untimely death, President Mills complained of severe pains, hence calling in his doctors the following day.
By 10am, the doctors were called in immediately to assess the situation.

On the same day, Tuesday, July 24, 2012, sources said, he was handed a bunch of documents believed to be from the oil and gas sector, which he was asked to examine and endorse.

By that time, Mills, who was said to be showing signs of weakness, became agitated and declined to look at the documents. He was said to have summoned an aide to take the documents to his secretary, J.K. Bebaako Mensah and that within seconds that the aide left the office of the president, he heard a loud scream from there. The aide rushed back to the office to find the President lying on the floor with blood oozing from his mouth and nose.

"Unnecessary Delays"

In the heat of the confusion and the panic that ensued, President Mills was said to have been bundled onto a stretcher and into a stationary ambulance at the Osu Castle and sent to the 37 Military Hospital with no notice to the medical officials there.

But, according to the source, the outriders (police dispatch riders) were nowhere to be found to lead the ambulance to the hospital.
This was said to have caused a delay in the decision-making process as to whether to take the former President to the 37 Military Hospital or what to do, a situation that was said to have been compounded by the non-availabilty of the outriders when needed.
Unconfirmed reports said the outriders were accompanying the Prof’s sisters to Cape Coast.

Not long after reaching the hospital, the president was pronounced dead. Indications are that adequate measures had not been put in place to give special treatment to the president since authorities at the facility had not been given any prior information of him being sent there.

According to a source at the hospital, when they got there at 1:35pm, they went to the Emergency and Medical ward where they were turned away apparently because they did not know that it was the president.
He was then taken to the Maternity Block where they were sent back to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where a certain female nurse, a Lieutenant Colonel, identified the body as that of the president and asked them to do the right thing.

"Coroner’s Inquest"

Apparently, the officials following the body told the health officials that it was the body of a senior government official who was involved in an accident.

But with no health record of the president at the hospital, the Lt. Col. insisted that the right thing should be done.
With that development, health officials said they needed the coroner’s report to ascertain the cause of death since he was taken there dead or he was there less than 24 hours before his death.
After that, Mrs. Naadu Mills and other ministers were spotted at the facility wailing.

Later in the afternoon, Chief of Staff Henry Martey Newman called former President Rawlings and J.A. Kufuor to inform them of the death of President Mills.

"Hidden Secrets"

Two weeks before his demise, President Mills had a private meeting with former President Rawlings at the seat of government at which they were said to have, among other things, discussed his health and the strains he was going through with his work schedule, as well as concerns about colleagues in the NDC.

That was said to be due to the fact that he was having difficulties in the day-to-day administration of the country in view of his failing health.

But handlers of the former president were said to have often propped him to continue keeping up appearances, contrary to expert advice from his medical doctors both at home and abroad who wanted him to take time off his busy schedule to rest.

Meanwhile, his doctors in the United States were said to have wanted to put him on admission for an extra two months to enable him to recover and have enough rest but the old man’s handlers would not listen.

Instead, they rushed him back home.
When the president arrived in the country from the United States, he was made to jog under the hot weather at the Kotoka International Airport to prove to his critics that he was stronger than ever.
Even though it was obvious from his nasal voice and frailty that the man was not well, the president told Ghanaians his doctors had given him a clean bill of health.

Reports have it that the medical records of the former president had been altered and changed over a period to misrepresent the state of his health before he passed away.

As the nation mourns because it has lost a president, Ghanaians are calling for the transparency needed when it comes to matters concerning public figures.

It would be recalled that the body of one of America’s most venerable presidents, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, underwent two autopsies to ascertain what really caused his death despite the fact that it was public knowledge that he was assassinated.

130  Forum / Politics / Prez Mahama Under Siege…Many Troop To His House For Positions on: 31-07-2012 01:16 PM
The leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress has directed all interest groups and lobbyists canvassing for various persons to be named Vice President, to put an immediate stop to it but on the blind side of their eyes, incessant pressure is being mounted on President John Mahama to...

...show John Henry Martey Newman, the Chief of Staff the exit and appoint “his own man”.

The man who is seen as President Mahama’s “own man”, according to our Castle sources, is Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Baba Kamara.

Baba Kamara, a onetime Deputy Treasurer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is largely a self-educated man who reads avidly and was even touted at a point as a possible Running Mate to then Presidential Candidate Mills.

Our source further indicated to us that “apart from the fact that he is respected in the Islamic community because of his generosity and affableness, he cuts across both the NDC generations”.

“The Northern factor is also on his side since Mr. Newman also hails from the Central Region like our departed President Mills”, the source revealed further.

According to the source, there had been at least two delegations to the residence of the President to prevail on him to choose Alhaji Kamara as the Chief of Staff.

However, efforts to reach the High Commissioner for him to corroborate or deny the information at our disposal proved futile as his Nigerian telephone lines were all jammed.

Since the unfortunate demise of the President last week Tuesday, various lobbying groups have been pushing for their favorites to occupy the vacant position of the Vice President, compelling the NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia to say the development was inconsistent with the national state of mourning declared by the President and the mood of the nation.

In a press statement, the NDC maintained that the decision remained the sole prerogative of President Mahama and he must be given the space to make the nomination.

It would be recalled that, in 2010, the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) commenced investigations into allegations of corruption against certain persons relating to the operations in Ghana of M&J, a British engineering firm.

They were Dr. George Sipa Yankey, former Minster for Health, Kwame Peprah, former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Alhaji Baba Kamara, Alhaji Abubakar Sadique Boniface, former Minister of Works and Housing in the erstwhile NPP administration, Alhaji Amadu Seidu, former Minister of State at the Office of President Mills, Brigadier-General Lord George Attivor (rtd), Managing Director of Intercity STC and Dr. Ato Quarshie, former Minister of Roads and Highways.

However, Alhaji Kamara objected to the CHRAJ investigations.

Alhaji Kamara, who holds an Executive Master's in Governance & Leadership, GIMPA; is the Founder/Chief Executive Officer, African Trans Bridging Limited (Supply, Erection and Design of Steel Bridges).
131  Forum / The Buzz Central / "I Am The Papa of Rap"- Okyeame Kwame on: 31-07-2012 01:12 PM
The struggle over who is the originator of the Rap seems to be settled once and for all, with the deciding blow coming from the Rap Doctor, Okyeame Kwame; we couldn’t just sit down, fold our arms and watch the bragging rights escalate into another world war, thus, decided to make clarifications out of this whole fuse.

Okyeame Kwame in a recent interview made it explicitly clear on who gave birth to the genre in that way paying obeisance to both Gyedu Blay Ambulley and Reggie Rockstone, in essence he silenced the whole issue.

I went on to pinch him a litte to clarify the puzzle, and he busted out, ‘It’s time the whole comes to understand that Gyedu Blay Ambulley should be recognized. He remains the Great Grand Papa of Rap, Reggie Rockstone is the Grand Papa of Rap and I am the Papa of Rap; that settles it’.

Before now, it sounded squeaky when Gyedu Blay Ambulley tried to correct the wrongs done to him by the Guinness Book of Records for not according the deserved respect in line with his achievement as the Originator of Rap in the world.

Did I say ‘the world’? Yes you got me right. Ambulley’s argument is that, ‘who the cap fits, let him wear it’, thus, his claim of originator of the genre stands.

However, eyebrows in that direction have risen ever since he made that comment.

But before then, it is an established fact that Reggie Rockstone is the originator of hip life music in Ghana and to add to that, he has never denied the fact that Gyedu Blay Ambulley is the discoverer of Rap.

In due course of all these revelations, we shall unveil more at your feet. But for now we shall leave you to be the jury of who really should be accorded the title: Originator of Rap.

Pace up, take a deep breath and hit the PLAY button. R2Bees’ latest single will struck you with awe as you listen to a masterpiece, a record that would redefine music and its hold in many circles and a song that is likely to pass for a CLASSIC.

Known invariable for their flair of Afrobeats and Hiphop, the duo have totally gone into the haystack for this one. A proper “Burger” highlife with the rich sample of “Yaa Amponsah” coupled with sing along lyrics makes this tune unique.

Unpredictable Mugeez stuns with his delivery, as Peadae blesses it with his “swagful” touch. As the song plays on, you yearn for more and can’t wait for the next line.

Known for monster hits such as “I Dey Mad”, “Kiss your Hand” and their recent club shatter “Ajeeeii” it would come as no surprise if the new single jumps into immediate hit status.

Details of the song and release date are yet to be announced by management but as it stands it would be one of their best works so far, Ike Otoo Arhin (manager) hinted.

In a related development, the group is set to set out for the famous Africa Unplugged concert in the UK this August 27th. Reliable information reaching us also indicates that the group will be kicking started their North American Tour in September.

136  Forum / The Buzz Central / Raquel To Reshoot "Sweetio" Video on: 31-07-2012 12:03 PM
Ghanaian singing sensation Raquel, who recently received a lot of public backlash after releasing the video for her hit single 'Sweetio', which features BET award winner Sarkodie, has defended the concept for the video.

However, she went ahead to say she might be reshooting a new video to serve the interest of those who were unhappy with the new video.
The video has been criticized as being ‘shabby’ and not meeting the expectations of the public. Other aspects of the video that have been criticized include her make-up and costume.

But the songstress defended the video in an interview with Lexis Bill on Hitz FM’s morning show, ‘Daybreak Hitz’, saying, “The video was supposed to highlight me in my happy times, so that’s why you have all these colours and flowers with a bubbly girly feel. We wanted to do something different from what everybody would expect and since it’s my first major hit, we needed to focus on Raquel, the artiste.”

She however accepted that the public and her fans played a role in the success of her career; hence even though the negative comments about the video got to her, she took them very seriously.

Raquel hinted about an ongoing discussion to re-shoot the video for the song even though they had not reached a decision yet. “I think people had various ideas of how the video was going to be like and these comments keep coming because it didn’t fall in their expectations but discussions are on-going and we might reshoot a new video.”

She also indicated that her yet-to-be-titled debut album would be ready soon as it was in its final stages and would be launched soon. She released a single with dancehall artiste Samini earlier this month and is expected to release more singles before her maiden album is launched.
137  Forum / The Buzz Central / Okyeame Kwame To Win Grammy Award For Being 'Mr. Versatile'? on: 31-07-2012 12:02 PM
Rap doctor, Okyeame Kwame with over a decade experience feels it’s time he gets recognized for his acts in the Guinness Books of Records for his long standing uniqueness on the MIC.

In a recent interview, on his new song, ‘Mr. Versatile’, he spoke on the all-new rhythmic approach and technical know-how which he had bared. For the first time in the history of the world, nothing of such has been done where an Act combines different genres of music into one; this Okyeame Kwame has set the record.

About the song, this he said, ‘with my knowledge in this industry for a long time, the world will bear me witness that this is the first of its kind. A unique song that changes after every eight bars with a different genres emanating. It has so many changes and styles from reggae, to chorus, to adowaa, to kete, to highlife, to hip pop, to rock, and to swing.’

The world is a big stage and I was poised to find out if he had done his research further before pushing further with such ‘braggadocio’ statement, he spoke again, ‘I have not listen to every song in the world neither been to every studio in the world but I can say that I own the original concept to such an art which lasted for four minutes thirty seconds.’

The song is a sure banker and that for a fact I can tell. It features the melodious Irene Logan who didn’t hesitate to murder her lines with those ‘ahaaa’ gigs. If anything will put the name of Ghana at large on the map and in the history books, then this song has set the pace.

The video of the song will be premiered on the 28th of July at the Aphrodisiac Night Club in Kumasi. This will come immediately after the free screening on the Hepatitis B awareness at the MDS lancet laboratory, Saint Jones Park at Suame in Kumasi.

‘It is a way of killing two birds with one stone, also giving my fans out there in Kumasi and its environs the opportunity to see the record ‘breaking art’ in advance, first hand. I love all my fans and with this way, I am sure I will get closer to them out there’, this he passionately said.

We shall wait for this day to stand as a reminder on that faithful Grammy Awards day, when we shall all stay glued to our TV sets and witness from kilometers far away, ‘…and the Grammy Award winner from Africa, Ghana, goes to the Rap Doctor, Okyeeeeeeeeame Kwaaaaaame’.

Call it prophesy or soothsaying, the bottom line is that something good has come out of Ghana.
