Hotel Selling Cooked Human Meat Found In Onitsha, 11 Arrested With Human Heads

According to Osun Defender, Onitsha police arrested 11 people after they discovered 2 fresh human heads in a hotel (name withheld) very close to the popular Ose-Okwodu market in Anambra state on Thursday.
2 AK47 rifles and other weapons were also discovered in the hotel.
The arrest followed tip-offs from area residents on Thursday morning.
The hotel owner, 6 women and 4 men were arrested.
After police got access to the hotel, they made a startling discovery of two human heads wrapped in a cellophane bag, two AK47 rifles, two army caps, 40 rounds of live ammunition and so many cell phones.

“Each time I came to market, because the hotel is very close to the market, I always noticed funny movements in and out of the hotel; dirty people with dirty characters always come into the hotel.
So, I was not surprised when the police made this discovery in the early hours of yesterday,” said a vegetable seller in the area.
A Pastor who was among the people who tipped off the police on Thursday said: “I went to the hotel early this year, after eating, I was told that a lump of meat was being sold at N700, I was surprised.
So I did not know it was human meat that I ate at such expensive price.”

Mother, 3 Daughters Raped At Gunpoint In Delta ..

A gang of suspected rapists at the weekend raped 3 daughters and their mother in Illah town, Oshimili North local government area of Delta State at gun point.

Spokesman of the state police command, ASP Lucky Uyabeme, said the victims were ambushed on their way to the farm, adding that one of the suspects, identified as Chuks had attempted to woo one of the victims, who is a 16-year-old SSII student of one of the secondary schools in the area, but failed.

He said upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to have invited his gang members who assisted him to rape the girl, her mother and two sisters on that fateful day.

It was gathered that the rapists emerged from the thick forest and held the victims with AK 47s. They allegedly stripped them naked before defiling them on the bush path.

Uyabeme said that while the act lasted, passers-by who heard their shout rushed to the scene and were given the same treatment by the suspects who after threatening to kill them escaped with their victims’ wrappers and tools into the bush.

Luck however, ran out on one of the gang members as he was identified by the victims.
Some sympathizers who assisted the victims allegedly contacted the police where they insisted that one of the suspects was a known face in the community.

LEADERSHIP Sunday learnt that there have been reported cases of rape in the area.In the last two months no fewer than eight under-aged girls were allegedly raped in the community.

The police spokesman said that detectives acting on a tip-off swung into action and arrested the said Chuks who led them to the hideout of his gang members where they were arrested in Kwale with several AK47s recovered from them.

Only last Monday, an 18-year-old female student of Asaba Girls Grammar School was allegedly raped by a group of suspected cultists who assaulted her on her way from the church after a vigil.

Fear Of High HIV/AIDS Infection Grips Delta Polytechnic

By SaharaReporters, New York

Fear has gripped students and lecturers of Delta State Polytechnic in Ozoro, Isoko North local government area following an alleged discovery that some incoming students have high infection rates for the dreaded HIV/AIDS.

SaharaReporters learnt that the reported HIV/AIDS scare has been a contentious issue among the polytechnic community for the past two months. Five students and two lecturers alleged that incoming students were required to give their blood at the school’s medical laboratory for genotype and blood group tests. The sources added that the students were not aware that the blood they gave would be tested for HIV infection.

The students complained that it was not stated in the medical forms given to them nor were they told of any HIV/AIDS test. “It was now later that we began to hear that our extracted blood at the school laboratory, said to be used for genotype and blood group test, was also used to conduct HIV/AIDS test,” said one of the students.

A lecturer at the institution told our correspondent that the test were meant to be carried out in a clandestine manner, but the information leaked out somewhere along the way.

A student who simply identified himself as Robinson disclosed that the school administration had pasted on a notice board the identification numbers of students (but without their names) who were alleged carriers of various diseases, from gonorrhea to HIV/AIDS. The students’ names were omitted to avoid their identification, Robinson said. He added that the notice was removed as soon as the subject created tension and fear on campus.

One of the students said they were not allowed to bring any medical reports from outside the school. “The school authorities insisted that all medical tests must be carried out in the school laboratory,” she said.

A female lecturer confirmed to our reporter that the test were carried out by the school, but that the school administrators had decided to be secretive in handling the matter “in order to save our institution from disgrace.”

Contacted on the issue, the polytechnic’s rector debunked the allegations that secret HIV/AIDS tests were conducted. “I can tell you that there was no such thing in the school,” he said. He added: “This kind of test is not permitted in this school. We don't have HIV/AIDS kits to carry out tests in this school. So where did we carry out such tests? The story is baseless as there is no single iota of truth in it.”

However, the rector admitted that blood was extracted from the students for genotype and blood group tests as part of the school’s routine requirement for new intakes. He however insisted that the polytechnic did not conduct any HIV/AIDS screening on new intakes’ blood.

“Yes in our lab we have the kits to run other tests which we have done. But, as for the HIV/AIDS, we don’t have those kits to run the tests,” the rector stated.

Meanwhile the issue continues to throw up a series of reactions. Death threats were reportedly sent to Felida Essi, the publisher of a local newspaper (Isoko Mirror), whose paper mentioned the issue in its current edition. The publisher alleged that she received several calls last week from the President General of Ozoro kingdom, Raphael Afemare, demanding that she retract the story within 24 hours or face grave repercussions. She said Mr. Afemare warned her that she may not live to tell the story of what would happen to her.

Mr. Afemare is a known electoral thief who was arrested by the police at Ozoro for snatching ballot boxes during the 2011 election. When contacted by our correspondent, Mr. Afemare reacted by shouting at the top of his voice, but denied issuing threats to Ms. Essi.

One of the polytechnic students told SaharaReporters that many parents of the students were gripped by fear over the controversial blood tests. He added that parents had widely condemned the way the polytechnic conducted itself.

Billionaire Couple Mysteriously Burn To Death In Onitsha

It was a moving scene. In the bathroom, the clung to each other. They were probably desperately seeking a way to escape the fire that gutted their home. They did not make it. Husband and wife were burnt to death.

Nobody knows how the mystery fire started yesterday in the palatial home of the Mr. And Mrs. Boniface Ndubuisi. Sympathisers only came and met the bodies of the multi-billionaire couple, who just returned home from abroad, in the bathroom of their 2, Arinze Lane, off Okolo Street, American Quarters, Onitsha, Anambra State home.

The building was said to have been razed before fire fighters could gained access into the compound. The couple’s valuables, worth billions of naira, reportedly went with the fire.

In a tension-soaked atmosphere yesterday, tongues wagged over the likely cause of the fire.

An eyewitness could not fathom how and where the fire started in the one-storey building, but confirmed that it started about 4am.

The couple, The Nation learnt, had six children; three in America, two in Abuja and one in Lagos.

The eyewitness said the couple’s bodies were found inside their bathroom, clinging unto each other.

The Divisional Police Officer, Onitsha Central Police Station, Mr Tope Fasugba has visited the scene with his men. He said the incident is being investigated.

The police, it was learnt, have taken the bodies to the morgue in Onitsha.

Many blamed the incident on power surge from Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). Fire fighters strived to prevent the fire from spreading to other compounds.

About ten unknown human bodies that are in varying stages of decomposition have been spotted in a burrow pit at Mgbirichi, along the ever busy Owerri-Port Harcourt federal highway.

Vanguard learnt that the shocking discovery was made a group of women, who were on their way to their farm, suddenly discovered two dead bodies that were dumped in the pit.

Scared by the shocking finding, the hapless women rushed back home to announce the development to their fellow villagers.

Confirming this to Vanguard, one of the villagers who spoke on strict grounds of anonymity, said “the community leaders quickly reported the ugly incident to the Divisional Police Headquarters, Umuagwo”.

Continuing, the villager recalled that after seeing things for themselves, including the seemingly fresh bodies and other decaying human parts littered inside the burrow pit, the two fresh bodies were buried in the place.

“Health workers under the watchful eyes of the visiting policemen later buried the two fresh bodies in the burrow pit, while the other decayed human parts, including bones which littered the place, were not attended to”, the villager said.

The new Police Public Relations Officer, Joy Elemoko, a deputy superintendent of police, DSP, could not comment on the issue because she was not able to get across to the Divisional Police Office, DPO, in charge of the area.

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the death of a former journalist and politician, Mr. Chike Ejike Onah after an attack by yet to be identified youths.

Mr. Onah, popularly known as Papa Nsukka died yesterday night as a result of matched cuts he received from the youths who attacked him last Sunday night at his country home in Agbani, at the outskirts of Nsuka Urban, Enugu State.

His death is perceived to be the deadliest dimension of a lingering land dispute involving three communities in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka town.
Umakashi, Nguru, Isiakpu and other Nsukka communities have for so many years now been embroiled in land tussles, a situation that recently attracted the attention of the Enugu State Government.

A police source told Daily Post that Onah died at a private hospital in the university town hours after he was attacked with cutlasses by the group.

A village source revealed that the group had planned to behead Papa Nsukka, adding that they only left him when they thought he was dead.

The killing of Onah stirred up tension in Nsukka urban as youth’s thronged the Bishop Shanahan Hospital morgue where his body was deposited yesterday night.
A village source said before the late politician gave up the ghost, frantic effort was made by the hospital authority through blood transfusion to save his life.
“However, later in the evening of yesterday, he died in the hospital to the shock of all of us”, a close family member said.

Further investigations by Daily Post showed that on the night of the incident, a group of villagers had stormed a scene where another group knocked down a house. The occupant named Ndubisi, was said to have escaped death by whiskers when the assailants invaded his house at night as he jumped through the window.
Sensing that the late Onah engineered the demolition, the angry youths marched straight to the house of Onah.

According to the source, Onah reportedly came out to meet the villagers at the gate, but on opening the gate, he was allegedly attacked with knife and axe.
He continued that his attackers inflicted fatal injuries around his neck in an attempt to behead him, but only abandoned him in a pool of his blood when they thought he was dead.

DailyPost deeper probe revealed that Nguru community from where late Onah hailed were pitched in land dispute against their Umakashi community neighbours.
According to Ndubisi, owner of the demolished house, it was the people of Umakashi that attacked him on fateful night. Ndubisis is from Nguru.

When contacted, the Enugu State Police image maker, Ebere Amarizu said the killing has been reported at the police command headquarters in Enugu.
According to him, a case of malicious damage to property was previously reported and that the attack on him could be a reprisal.
“Our major concern now is to conduct an autopsy but no arrest has been made. Amarizu hinted.

He explained that as soon as the police received report of the incident on the fateful day, the DPO dispatched policemen to the scene and they helped to bring the deceased him to the hospital.

Area commander, Nsukka Police Area Command, ACP, Ros-Amson Umar Halladu, described the killing as unfortunate. He urged the people to always dialogue on issues instead of violence, warning that the police would not tolerate use of violence to resolve dispute among the people.

Late Onah was the labour Party flag bearer in 2007 for the Enugu House of Assembly. He had a stint with an Onitsha based community newspaper before joining politics.

…NMA chairman’s wife also kidnapped in Anambra

BY VINCENT UJUMADU

AWKA – THE pastor in charge of St Paul’s Anglican Parish, Umunachi in Dunukofia local government area, Rev James Achigbu and the wife of the Anambra State chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Emmanuel Ekwesianya have been kidnapped at two different locations in Anambra State.

While Rev Achigbu was kidnapped along Umunachi – Eziowelle road at about 8.00 pm as he was returning home, the wife of the NMA chairman was abducted at about 7.30 am as she was about to drive her children to school in Ihiala.

Venerable Obi Ubaka in charge of Ogidi Archdeaconry said, Tuesday, that Rev Achigbu was with his wife, Uju, at the time of the incident.

He said: “Rev Achigbu and his wife were returning home in their Honda Accord  car after visiting St. John’s Church, Eziowele when the kidnappers blocked them along the Umunachi –Eziowele road and forced him into their vehicle. One of the kidnappers forced his wife out of the Honda car. ”

According to Ubaka, the kidnappers have since then been demanding for ransom from the parish, adding that the church has consistently been telling them that it would not be involved in such transaction and appealed to the kidnappers to release the priest.

Police public relations officer, PPRO, in the state, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka confirmed the incident and said that effort were being made to effect the release of the pastor.

Elsewhere at Ihiala, the kidnappers of the NMA chairman’s wife have demanded ransom of N50 million.

Mrs. Ekwesianya had prepared her children for school and as she opened their gate and drove out, the kidnappers blocked her with an SUV vehicle and forced her into the vehicle, leaving the children stranded.

Twenty four hours later, the abductors established contact with her husband, who is the director of medical services at Anambra State University, Uli and demanded payment of N50 million ransom.

Chinwe Orakwue Thrown out of Matrimonial Home By Hubby

International Energy Insurance big babe, Chinwe Orakwue, has been banished from her matrimonial home of 12 years.

Her husband, Azubuike Orakwue, MD/CEo of AZT Furniture Company Limited, humiliated her out of their Wole Ariyo Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos residence on Friday, January 11, 2013, alongside her mother who had come visiting.
Alleging serial adultery and also engaging in fetish practices, neigbours and passersby watched as Chinwe and her mother were marched out what used to be her home by her husband and a few friends.

With her belongings scattered here and there on the street, this popular Igbo big girl, Chinwe, amidst sobs, managed to get herself composed a little bit before finally convincing a Danfo driver to ferry her and her mother out of the vicinity.
Interestingly, her husband ran into her again on Sunday, January 20, 2012 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos where she was allegedly lodged by one of her lovers and another fight ensued. The fight was so bloody that Policemen, from the Bar Beach Police Station had to step in.

Shedding more light on the Federal Palace Hotel drama, a source who witnessed it told us that Azubuike or Zubby like his friends call him had gone to the hotel with two of his buddies to have their breakfast. But while trying to tuck on his car properly at the car park, he sighted his wife’s gray Cherokee Jeep with registration number GL 687 AAA already parked there.

Surprised, he made some enquiries and was told by the security men that the Jeep was there overnight. It was while having his breakfast with friends that his wife showed up to also have hers, an argument/fight ensued, which became bloody at some point, forcing policemen to be invited into the matter.

The estranged couple returned to the police station again on Tuesday, January 29, after Zubby discovered what he claimed was a ‘Juju’ cache left behind by his wife and with which she has been manipulating him. The Police is now looking into the matter.

Below is how an insider narrated the genesis of their marital crisis:
“You know that Zubby is my good friend?” The insider had begun. “He told me that this mess started in 2005 while he was in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State and the woman was here in Lagos. As a matter of fact, he said he was tipped off by some Lekki residents. He confronted the woman, she confessed and he was devastated, it was so bad then that he didn’t want to continue with the marriage, but his mother eventually prevailed on him to forgive her, which he did.

“However, for one year, they lived under one roof but weren’t making love. It took the advice of one Bishop Adol Paul Obi-Nwogu to get him to start making love to her again. From there, things returned to what seemed like normal before this latest expose, which actually became obvious sometime in June last year after a secret ‘tracker’ in the woman’s jeep revealed all sorts of things. “Too many names have already cropped up among the woman’s alleged lovers. There is a 72-year old Lebanese who is into commodities. His name is Talai and according to findings, he had been dating Chinwe since her undergraduate days at UNILAG. There is also this Igbo businessman called Iyke, from Anambra State who is into oil servicing. Clear Essence Hotel on Alexander Road, Ikoyi and a service apartment on Lugard Avenue, also in Ikoyi, are two of their love havens. Ironically, this guy’s wife is also Chinwe’s friend. But don’t let us talk about that now.

Too many names, too many names…
“It’s just that Zubby was caged with ‘Jazz’. Otherwise his wife’s flamboyant lifestyle would have given her away. She carries some of the most expensive handbags you can think of; her wristwatches are strictly Rolex and Chopard and she flies only Business Class anytime she’s travelling. Guess what? Anytime she’s going on such trips, both here and abroad, she will tell Zubby that she’s going for marketing. The story is just so, so messy”.

Mrs. Chinwe Orakwue (nee Okekeze) is from Umuoji in Anambra State. A 2002 Physics graduate of the University of Lagos, she is 34-years old and a mother of one girl, Adaora. Very, very popular in UNILAG, she had a Toyota Tercel car she was driving then – which currently in the Corporate Communications department of International Energy Insurance, she is always expensively attired and sometimes provocatively dressed.

Zubby, on the other hand, is 50 and hails from Onitsha, also in Anambra State. A very good friend of former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia State and Obigbo leader, Chief Charles Ahize, he owns AZT Limited, a multi-million naira furniture company with branches here and there. Contacted on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at exactly 2:01pm, Mrs. Orakwue banged the phone on us after being told the reason we called and also querying us how we came about her number. “How did you get my number? Who gave you my number?” Her husband only blurted: “Thanks for calling. I appreciate the level of professionalism you have exhibited by getting across to me, but the truth is, I have no comments for now

OWERRI — Sixteen-month old Emman-uel Onyekachi Alamanjo has been reported abducted from Saint Mary’s Catholic Cathedral Parish, Okigwe, giving the impression that hoodlums have again started kidnapping, snatching and stealing toddlers from churches in Imo State.

Vanguard investigations revealed that the little boy was taken to the church for the 10a.m mass by his mother, Mrs. Salome Alamanjo.

It was also gathered that little Emmanuel became very uncomfortable with the temperature inside the crowded church and because he was crying ceaselessly, his mother handed him over to his elder sister to take outside for fresh air.

A lady was said to have offered to assist the little girl who was clutching her younger brother and thereafter tricked her to move to the church hall where members of the Catholic Biblical Instructors Union, CBIU, were giving children lunch, to collect some rice for her brother.

“On her return from the hall, the little girl did not see either the lady or her brother and broke down weeping. She relentlessly searched and hoped to find the fleeing lady. This gave the baby thief ample opportunity to escape,” a woman, who simply identified herself as Ngozi, told Vanguard.

The boy’s father, Mr. Sylvester Alamanjo, a native of Umuinem, Okigwe and the Administrator of Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Okigwe, Rev. Fr. Gregory Osuji, confirmed the ugly incident.

“It is most shocking that people can dare God so brazenly. The missing boy was baptized on August 12, 2011 and his date of birth was given as August 1, 2011,” Rev. Fr. Osuji said.

He passionately appealed to the public to come forward with any information that would lead to the recovery of the little boy soonest.

“Anybody with useful information on the missing boy can call 08062423712, report to the nearest police station or any Catholic priest,” Rev. Fr. Osuji pleaded[/b].[/b]

Nigerians on death row in Indonesia: Jonathan calls for stay of execution

President Goodluck Jonathan, Saturday, requested for stay of execution on Nigerians on death row in Indonesia.

Receiving the Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Abuja, who is on a 2-day state visit to the country, President Jonathan called for more bilateral relations between both counties with a pledge for an early convening of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation  meeting between the two countries.

In tweets, Saturday, by Presidential spokesman Dr. Reuben Abati, both Presidents welcomed the signing of MoU between Nigeria and Indonesia to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking in narcotics, and drugs just as they agreed to promote training cooperation involving military officers of both countries.

Vanguard had earlier reported that no fewer than 18 Nigerians are presently languishing in various prisons in Indonesia with the fear that some of them may be among 10 slated for execution soon.

The 18 Nigerians were condemned to death by the Indonesian courts in 2008 for their alleged various criminal offences including drug peddling and other related offences.

So far, the Indonesian government had condemned a total of 21 Nigerians to death, sentenced four to life imprisonment and eight others to various jail terms ranging from 11 to 18 years.

Out of the 21 condemned Nigerians, two of them, Samuel Iwuchukwu Okoye and Hassan Anthony Nwaolisa were executed on June 28, 2008, while another, Augustine Ogbonna died under mysterious circumstances in prison custody in September, 2008.

Abati’s tweets:

” Pres. Jonathan requested for stay of execution of Nigerians on death row in Indonesia while both explore agreement on exchange of prisoners

“Both Presidents welcomed the signing of MoU btw Nigeria and Indonesia to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking in narcotics, and drugs.”

“Both Presidents pledged to work together towards attaining a more balanced and mutually beneficial relatnship btw Nigeria and Indonesia.”

UGHELLI — IT was a gruesome weekend in Delta State as suspected kidnappers and bandits shot dead three persons, two police officers and a woman, wounded a police and naval officers and seized a Navy Commander.

Two chieftains of the People Democratic Party, PDP, national vice chair, South-South, Dr. Steve Oru and member, House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, reportedly ambushed by kidnappers, miraculously escaped being kidnapped.

However, Oru, who was shot by the hostage-takers, is currently hospitalised.

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State was said to have intervened and ordered the security agencies to fish the criminals. He has reviewed the security measures put in place by government and is reportedly coming up with a new strategy in the next few weeks to keep his security and peace agenda aflame.

The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba,  confirmed the attacks in a telephone interview with Vanguard, saying the police have launched a manhunt for the criminals.

He did not give details, but said: “It was unfortunate, the police, both junior and senior officers, are looking for them. You know, the governor of the state, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, gave us more vehicles and we have a special security patrol team working round the clock. We will get them.”

Kidnappers bundle Navy Commander

However, Vanguard was informed that Navy Commander I. Mohammed, who is based in Lagos, was attacked between Ughelli and Patani on his way from Warri to Port-Harcourt, along the East-West Road by a seven-man robbery gang.

A source said Navy Commander Mohammed tried to make a nippy u-turn when he sighted the heavily armed bandits, operating near Oru Filling Station at about 3.00 p.m, Saturday, but the hoodlums, who had positioned themselves strategically, trapped him and opened gunfire on his vehicle.

It was learnt that the N.5 million cash which was in the possession of the Navy Commander and GSM phones were stolen by the bandits.

Reports said his car, riddled with bullets, was abandoned by the bandits, who bundled him into an SUV they used for the operation and turned in the direction of Warri, but apparently unsatisfied with their loot, they diverted to Agbarho.

His orderly was allegedly shot on the chest region and was said to be in critical state. His actual condition could not be determined at press time.

PDP vice chair shot, orderly killed

The bandits, Vanguard gathered, laid siege to unsuspecting travellers between Orhokpokpor-Agbarho and Uwiamughe-Agbarho on the East-West road at about 2.00 pm.

According to a dependable source, the armed robbers attacked vehicles from both ends of the road, dispossessing their victims of their valuables.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said an unidentified woman was also shot dead by the dare devil robbers, as she attempted to escape into the bush, adding that the police orderly of Dr Steve Oru, simply identified as Ofor was also killed in an attempt to engage the bandits in a shootout.

Speaking further, the source said: “Dr Steve Oru was shot on his back as he was trying to run into the bush. Many others also sustained bullet injuries as the armed robbers shot sporadically.

“As I speak with you, Governor Uduaghan is very concerned about the health condition of Oru and has directed that he be transferred to a more competent hospital (name withheld) for proper medical attention.”

Bandits lay siege to Elumelu

Similarly, the police aide to Hon Ndudi Elumelu was also killed between Orhia-Abraka and Eku,  by suspected armed bandits who also laid siege to the Eku/Abraka road at about 1.00 pm on Saturday.

A reliable source said suspected robbers, who opened fire, attacked the convoy of Elumelu but the lawmaker narrowly escaped death.

Police orderlies killed

Commissioner Aduba told Vanguard that the suspected kidnappers had wanted to kidnap Oru and Elumelu, but the plot failed, as their aides fought gallantly but were killed in the ensuing battle.

He confirmed that a policeman lost his life in the attack on Elumelu convoy, while in the Oru incident, a policeman was killed and another injured.

Police finger Kelvin, most wanted kidnap suspect

He manipulated a notorious kidnap suspect, Kelvin, who had been declared wanted by the police as being responsible for the spate of kidnap and robbery attacks in the state.

The Commissioner said some people in Kokori appeared to be shielding Kelvin from the police, as they were not given the police useful information on his activities and whereabouts.

Aduba said the police in the state would give out N2.5 million soon to informants at Abraka, Warri, Asaba and other parts of the state, who gave the police information that led to the bursting of some kidnap and armed robbery gangs and commended Gov. Uduaghan for the assistance.

Increased patrol

Vanguard observed, yesterday (Sunday) that the special security patrol introduced this year by the state government had intensified security checks in the state.

A combined team of security personnel has taken over the Eku/Abraka road with a view to tracking down the suspected hoodlums.

At Sapele end of the Warri-Benin road, yesterday,  a heavy presence of the special security patrol team was seen by Vanguard, while the Delta segment of the road and Warri-Eku road have been under concentrated patrol by soldiers, drawn mainly from the 3 Battalion, Effurun, Delta State, headed by Lt Col Ifeanyi Otu.

Three-year-old pupil abducted

Meawhile, a pupil, Akachukwu Abatam, was allegedly abducted, Saturday, at about 2.00 p.m by unknown persons. He was said to be returning from his school, Green Height International School.

PPRO, Mr. Ajieh, who confirmed the incident, said Akachukwu’s teacher was being quizzed over the matter.

Corp member killed

A National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member, identified as Akrigbe, was also shot dead on Saturday by suspected armed robbers, along Bomadi road in the state.

The incident occurred at about 11.00 am around Ode Bridge. The corps member was travelling in an 18-seater Delta mass transit bus heading to Bomadi when tragedy struck.

In another robbery incident at Oleh on Saturday, robbers raided a boutique at Old Emede Road, but the police mobilized and in a gun battle, one of the bandits was killed, while others fled.

Ajieh told Vanguard that on a closer look, the police found out that the deceased robber “was a wanted person who snatched a Toyota Camry from a woman at  Campus gate sometime in October 2012.”

His words: “The police are combing the area for possible arrest of the fleeing gang members.”
