221  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / WELCOME HOME: Israel Begins Mass Deportation Of Nigerians on: 8-09-2012 04:03 PM
In what looks like a crackdown on immigrants in their country, Israel has started a massive deportation of Africans comprising mainly Nigerians in what they called ‘operation clean up’.

In the last few weeks no fewer than 50 Nigerians have been deported from the middle east country for reasons ranging from what they termed illegal stay, work permit and other flimsy excuses.

Due to the recent series of offensive and racist statements made by Israeli politicians, African diplomats in Israel are afraid to walk down the street, said African ambassadors in Israel during a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon.

The meeting, which was attended by the ambassadors of Angola, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia and the Ivory Coast, was recently held in the Foreign Ministry’s offices in Jerusalem, Yedioth Ahronoth, an Israeli newspaper reported. This was after the wife of the Ghanian ambassador was arrested by Israeli police where she was on shopping in Tel Aviv.

Israeli’s claim that  immigrants are  responsible for the  ongoing series of assaults and muggings committed in their country is a way of calling a dog a bad name in order to hang it.

Reports from  Tel Aviv where most of the immigrants live show that most of them now hide inside their apartments without going to work for fear of being arrested while on the street. ’Many Nigerians living  in Israel are very law abiding and go  their  normal businesses’ said an official of the Nigerian community who doesn’t want his name in print.

The recent crackdown has seen Isreaeli authorities

arresting Nigerians with families and taking them to detention camps sometimes with their very under aged children where they face harsh punitive measures and untold hardship before being deported  to their country.

To worsen the situation, the Nigerian Embassy officials have never intervened in this ugly incidents being meted on Nigerians, our source revealed

Mr Iweka [real name withheld] from Enugu state  said he has been living in Israel legally since  twelve years working in a restaurant but was deported on the orders of his employer who wouldn’t want to pay his accumulated gratuity. He was arrested in his apartment by over twenty security agents and chained both legs and hands and bundled into a van even after showing them his valid papers and driven to prison. His lawyer took his case to court and after spending two months in the prison under harsh conditions was deported without concluding his case. He described is ordeal as a racist, barbaric and unhuman.

Member of the Israeli Knesset  Shlomo Molla (Kadima) has  warned that, “The State has failed to do its diplomatic due diligence .No one wants to migrate here if they’re doing well… It doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try to send them back, but these events – abusing them like that – that’s wrong.

“I’ve seen case where people where physically hurt. If that’s not incitement – what is?” he wondered.

Member if Israeli Knesset K Dov Khenin (Hadash) read testimonies given by teens suspected of assaulting migrants, detailing the violent abuse they had perpetrated. He further deplored the government’s actions against them.

Asaba—FOLLOWING the bomb scare at the office of the Delta State Head of Service on Tuesday, which later turned out to be a hoax, men of Delta State Police Command have intensified their search for the persons, who planted the fake device.

State Police Public Relations Officer,  Mr Charles Muka told Vanguard on phone, yesterday:  “We are seeking for useful information from the public in tracking down the suspects. Although it was not a real bomb, we are out to fish out the criminals behind it.”

Vanguard gathered that the police top hierarchy saw the act as an embarrassment, especially as it happened on the day the  Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, zone 5, Mr. Hashimu  Argungu,  was on an official visit to the state.[/b

226  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Nigeria’s First Lady Hospitalized In Germany! on: 2-09-2012 11:56 PM
Nigeria's First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has been in a hospital in Germany in the last four days, Abuja State House sources have told SaharaReporters, undergoing treatment for food poisoning.

The sources say Mrs. Jonathan, who is also a Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa State civil service, was airlifted to the hospital by an air ambulance in midweek under emergency medical conditions.

Presidency sources stated that the emergency airlift departed for Wisbanden, Germany, but it is not clear if her treatment was being undertaken in that city. They said she was only able to speak earlier today, four days after her arrival, because the illness had been so severe that she lost her voice.

Our sources could not say when she will return to the country. Nigeria’s political leaders and their families routinely seek expensive medical attention abroad, an irony occasioned by their failure to develop the same facilities at home. In the past few years, two former First Ladies have died on foreign hospital beds.

Police rescue abducted baby!

The Imo State Police Command on Friday said that it had rescued a nine-month-old baby boy from suspected traffickers in Lagos.

The child, along with a girl, was abducted on 23 November, 2011 by five armed men from the City of Life Hospital and Maternity, Akuma, in Oru-East Local Government Area of the state.

Addressing newsmen in Owerri, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Adisa Bolanta, said the children were later sold to one Ngozi Ukonu, for N450,000.

Ukonu, a mother of six and operator of Daughters of Zion Motherless Babies Home in Aba, had told police that she received the babies without knowing they were kidnapped.

She claimed that the kidnappers had told her that the babies belonged to their relation, who died at childbirth, adding that she paid for the children because the men claimed they needed assistance.

Ukonu said she had given out about 25 babies in the past eight years she ran the home, adding that the babies were given out to families, who paid as much as N500,000 for a baby boy and N400,000 a baby girl.

The Medical Director of City of Life Hospital and Maternity, Dr Anthony Ilobi, expressed joy over the rescue of the boy, saying the operation had established his innocence.

“When this incident happened, I was arrested and held in custody for two weeks; this rescue will clear any lingering doubts.

“What makes this case painful is that the mother of this boy had a still-birth from a previous pregnancy before she was referred to me,” he said.

The commissioner said the baby was rescued from one “Mama Junior” of Esia Aba, saying the police were also on the trail of the baby girl belonging to one Ifeoma Mbodom of Amaifeke, Orlu.

“Our operatives were able to rescue this baby because we did not allow the case to go cold. We have been following this investigation diligently and it has paid off.

“We are already in the process of rescuing the baby girl who was sold to a retired matron.

“We have four suspects and we will charge them to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” he said.

The suspects in the case are: Ngozi Ukonu, Nneka Ezeigbo, Anayo Udozo and Chidozie Onyenwe.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state Police Command said it lost 13 policemen between April and August.

Mr Mohammed Indabawa, the state Commissioner of Police, made this known at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday.

Indabawa said the command killed 36 robbery and kidnap suspects in shoot outs and arrested 365 others during the period under review.

The commissioner said that the police rescued 17 kidnapped victims during the raids on criminal hideouts.

EBONYI State Police Command, Friday, said it arrested one Ifeanyi Okorie, 25, who hailed from Amatakwu, Ugwulangwu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi state for allegedly killing his uncle with a machete.

According to the Command, the suspect had on Thursday after waking up from sleep, grabbed a cutlass and hacked to death his 65 years old uncle, Uwajie Obasi and that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have committed the crime.

Confirming the arrest of the suspect, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sylvester Igbo stated that “A case of murder was reported at Ohaozara Police Station on 30th 2015 at about 1900hrs.

It was alleged that one Ifeanyi Okorie aged 25 yrs of Amatakwu Ugwulangwu killed his uncle one Uwajie Obasi, 65 yrs old of the same address. The suspect has been arrested and he has made useful statement.”

DSP Igbo revealed that during interrogation, the suspect noted that the reason he killed his uncle was because he had a dream where he saw his uncle chasing him with a machete with the intention of killing him and that when he woke up, he grabbed a cutlass and killed his uncle to forestall such incident from happening to him.

“When he was asked why he killed his uncle, he said that he had a dream and saw his uncle chasing him with a machete trying to kill him, so when he woke up he took a machete and killed his uncle before he could actualise his dream.”

The suspect according to the PPRO will soon be charged to court after the police must have concluded investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased, Uwajie Obasi had already been deposited at the Okposi General Hospital Mortuary, Ohaozara where autopsy on the body is expected to be carried out

Erosion threatens Abia communities!

By Ugochukwu Ugoji-Eke, Umuahia 3 hours 22 minutes ago

The people of Oguduasa, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, have been cut off from other communities by erosion.

The erosion, which is believed to be as deep as a 20-storey building, has swept away the road connecting the community from Akara Junction to the state university at Uturu.

It was learnt that the pit has claimed many lives and property.

The palliative work earlier done by the Federal Government in partnership with the state government has collapsed.

Road users are forced to divert to bush paths.

At Bende, erosion has also eaten deep into the road connecting the community from Umuahia to Ohafia and Arochukwu.

The erosion may destroy many houses, including that of a prominent politician, Chief Benjamin Nmeregini, if left unattended. Both communities are calling on the Federal Government to come to their aid.

Imo: Reeling under kidnappers’ onslaught !

Friday, 31 August 2012 00:00 From Charles Ogugbuaja, Owerri News - Metro

.

IMO State is reeling under  a scourge  as a result of which many now live in fear.

Kidnapping, which  started among militants in the creeks of the Niger Delta has found fertile ground in Imo State and now anxiety and uncertainty are almost palpable across the land.

In ‘the Eastern Heartland’ the fear of kidnappers is the beginning of wisdom as people dread being abducted almost anywhere and their families forced to pay huge ransoms for heir freedom, which ,unfortunately, is not guaranteed.

Almost anyone can be kidnapped : medical doctors, journalists, politicians, top civil servants, traditional rulers and even women have fallen  prey.

A number of kidnap victims have been killed, even after their families paid  the huge sums of money demanded by their abductors, while  some  have  had the special misfortune of being abducted , not once,  but twice.

The litany of victims is long and also representative of all corners of the state. Without necessarily following a chronological order, some of the most notable incidents include last year’s  kidnapping of Dr. Uche Anyanwu from Mbano. His abductors demanded N30 million  which his family struggled to raise. After several weeks, they paid the ransom only for Anyanwu’s lifeless body  to be found shortly after.

The same fate befell Dr. Amako, from Ohii, Owerri West who was kidnapped and shot on the leg. The gunmen  who demanded several millions as ransom held him for days , until  one day  they dumped him by a roadside . The wound on his leg had become dangerously infected. From where he was dumped, Dr. Amako was   taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri and a  few hours later, he died.

A former Chief of Staff and later Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vin Udokwu was kidnapped  and held for several months, even after paying the ransom. He refuses to disclose what he paid.

About the same period, a former Speaker of  Imo State House of Assembly, Chief Godfrey Dikeocha, was also  abducted and held  for months, most of which he spent blindfolded. An  undisclosed ransom was paid and he was freed. Sources said he went blind temporarily until  quick medical attention restored his sight.

Traditional rulers have not been spared as Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri of Obi Orodo, Mbaitoli was kidnapped, but not before his abductors shot dead his father and brother.

Another ruler, Eze Chijioke Okwara in Orlu spent several weeks in captivity and refuses to disclose what he paid as ransom.

The kidnappers have scant regard for places of worship.

The newly recognized Eze Oliver Nwaozuzu of Awo Mbieri and his wife were attending Mass on a Sunday when armed men stormed the church  and whisked the couple away. Eze Nwozuzu was held for days until an undisclosed ransom was paid.

Mrs. Stella Odimegwu, wife of the former Managing Director of Nigeria Breweries Limited and at present, Chairman National Population Commission (NPC), Chief Festus Odumegwu, was kidnapped while she was worshipping in their village church in Orsu, about two years ago. Reports said a fat ransom was  paid for her  freedom.

In Aboh Mbaise, the wife of a former Local Council Chairman, Richmond Osuji’s was also kidnapped last year and an undisclosed ransom paid before her release.

Also, a journalist, Chief Ndubuizu Ugorji of Imo Broadcasting Corporation Television was in June this year kidnapped just in front of his abode at Orji, Owerri North Local Council of the state.

Sources told The Guardian that friends, fellow workers and relatives raised about N2 million to secure his release.

Pastor Anselem Iwuala, was last year abducted as he was travelling along Okpala-Mbaise Road to his home, Egberede Nguru, Aboh Mbaise. He spent about seven days with his abductors as negotiation for payment of N100 million was going on. When his family  could only pay N500,000 of the amount demanded by his abductors,  he was killed.

Another ruler in the state, Eze Stanley Akunatoof Umueze Abazu, Ogwa Mbaitoli Local Council was killed after an attempt to abduct him failed..

A retired Superintendent of Police  Moses Ejeka, was kidnapped more than a year ago and he spent almost three months in captivity.

A lady, Ugo Mma, was kidnapped along MCC Road, Owerri until a  ransom was paid.

A two-time member of the Imo State House of Assembly, Celestine Ngobiwu was kidnapped twice.

In one of the incidents, his orderly was said to have been killed.

Two other personalities in the state, a Permanent Secretary, Iyke Amafili and a former Imo State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress  Steve Ibe, had also been kidnapped.

They were held for days until undisclosed ransoms were paid.

A High Court Judge was kidnapped in Owerri more than a year ago and another, Justice Ngozi Okpara,   shot along the popular Tetlow Road, Owerri by suspected kidnappers. He survived  after treatment.

A Community leader in Awo Omama, Chidiebere Nwanyanwu, was kidnapped and an undisclosed ransom paid before his release.

Just last Sunday August 26, 2012,  the Principal Secretary in the office of the Imo State Deputy Governor, E menike Ihekwoaba,  was kidnapped at Amaraku,  Isiala Mbano .

He was on his way to his village in Nkwerre and  had alighted to buy something when the kidnappers surrounded him and bundled the massively-built man into the boot of their car and sped off. His wife and driver escaped. But the government seems , at last , to have picked-up   the gauntlet.

The Commissioner of Police, Christopher Dega now an Assistant Inspector General (AIG), told The Guardian that the Command has devised a technology to track down the kidnappers. He refused to disclose it.

“We have a technology to trap them. We can not disclose that. They are in for a  hard time”,  he said.

Also, the state governor ,  Rochas Okorocha says any traditional ruler in whose domain there is an incident of kidnapping risks losing his salary and would be suspended.    Any building used for such purpose would be confiscated by the state government, while any kidnapper caught would face capital punishment based on the law passed by the state Assembly.

Meanwhile, soldiers of 34 Field Artillery Brigade, Obinze, have begun  a massive man hunt of kidnappers in forests in all the 27 councils of the state

Nigerian Man Ekene Chukwu aka KC, Jailed In South Africa For Armed Robbery!

The South African authorities have jailed a Nigerian man, Ekene Chukwu popularly known as KC for partaking in a recent armed robbery operation that took place some six months ago in Cape Town, South Africa.

According to the information at the disposal of our Correspondent in South Africa, Ekene Chukwu, an indigene of Anambra State, Nigeria, was arrested in Dunoon two weeks ago by the police detectives placed to mount a surveillance on him after a tip off by one of his accomplices
He was immediately taken to court today where he was sentenced to a six month imprisonment without an option of fine after pleading guilty to all the charges made against him.

According to South African Justice department, the accused person is not a first time offender and this was enough reason to imprison him without being given an option to pay a fine in lieu of his imprisonment.

The department further said that the accused person who got to South Africa in 2006 is a notorious criminal known to be selling hard drugs to people in Cape Town.

He was reportedly jailed for nine months a while ago for the possesion of hard drugs and he was asked to serve the jail term in Pollsmoor, the maximum prison where notorious criminals are kept in Cape Town.

According to the charge sheet obtained by our Correspondent, the police in the area had in January this year arrested a white man whose name is David but popularly known as Devil amongst his friends.

David who refused to mention the names of Ekene Chukwu and other accomplices of his that partook in the crime was charged for armed robbery and got a six month jail term in that same month of January, 2012..

The charge sheet further revealed that it was when David finished his jail term in the early days of August that he decided to tell the police that Ekene Chukwu was part of the crime that had landed him in jail for six months.

Asked by the police why he thought David also known as Devil decided to give him out to the police after spending his jail term, the Nigerian accused person, Ekene Chukwu said that David was furious when he did not meet his share of the loots they got from the operation.

He said that David was thinking that he would meet his share of the loot hence he decided not to mention his name in January as an accomplice in the dastardly crime.

During his arrest two weeks ago, Cape Town police found some hard drugs, guns that were possessed ilegally and a lot of stolen items.

Checks however revealed that Ekene Chukwu was arrested by South African immigration officials at the begining of this month for living in the country ilegally but was let off the hook by the police when they realised that he already has two kids and a wife in South Africa.

ABAKALIKI— Ebonyi State Police Command, has arrested  a middle-aged woman, Mrs Elizabeth Elom, for alleged theft and sale of her nephew, little Favour Onwe.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebonyi State command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, Sylvester Igbo,  said the suspect who hailed from Umuoru village in Ohaukwu Local government area of the state, was arrested alongside one Mr. Izuchukwu Okeke alleged to have linked the suspect to the buyer, Mrs. Nkiruka Okonkwo.

Vanguard gathered that Mrs. Okonkwo who bought the child for N100, 000 however, took to her heels when argument ensued on the rightful ownership of the child.

Igbo told newsmen that the command was able to unravel the circumstances behind the missing child, when it became obvious that the boy was last seen with the suspect who sold him (the child) at Awka in Anambra state.

“When the parent was looking for the child, the woman (suspect) was also worried and was searching for the child until the information came that the child was seen with the very woman and that she was pretending as if she did not know anything about the missing child. When the pressure became too much for her due to police interrogation, she had to confess to the crime.”

He called on members of the public to always give useful information to the police, assuring that their identity would  be protected even as he warned parents not to leave their children under the care of people with questionable character.

The suspect, Mrs Elizabeth, who spoke in pidgin confessed to the crime, saying, “Na devil. I steal the child and sold him to Mr Izuchukwu Okeke, who gave me the connection. Aloysius is my brother”.

AWKA—A YOUNG man in his early twenties, Mr. Junior Egbunike, was, yesterday, confirmed dead following injuries sustained while pursuing his father’s kidnappers at the commercial town of Onitsha.

Mr. Amulunanma Egbunike was returning home with his wife and son simply known as Junior after the day’s business at the weekend in Onitsha and as they got very close to their house at the Onitsha Inland Town, hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers blocked his car and dragged him into their own car and drove off.

His son, who was driving his father’s car, pursued them with his mother also in the car. But barely 400 meters away, the car got involved in a head on collision with another car and both mother and son sustained serious injuries.

Junior, who had been in coma since the incident, gave up the ghost yesterday at a hospital in Onitsha, while his mother had been discharged from hospital.

With the death of Junior, the Egbunike family has lost the only child left, having lost the family’s only daughter some years ago.

Meantime, the kidnapped Egbunike is yet to regain his freedom

Police nab 7 over alleged ritual killing of 7-yr-old girl!

ABAKALIKI – EBONYI State Police Command, said, Tuesday, that it had arrested seven suspects in connection with the ritual murder of little Miss Ukamaka Immaculata Ogboji, 7, on Sunday at Agubia  in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.

The command which commended the effort of the community under the aegis of Ebonyi Youth Assembly, EYA, in the arrest of the suspects, noted that the suspects who had earlier kidnapped Miss Ogboji for monetary gains, later, dismembered her body and dumped same in a cassava farm in the area.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects,  Ebonyi  State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Sylvester Igbo, noted that two of the suspects arrested had confessed to the crime stressing,  that the police had begun full investigation to ascertain the motive behind the brutal killing of the deceased.

He said: “Seven persons suspected to have killed little Miss Ukamaka Immaculata Ogboji on Sunday at Agubia in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state, have been arrested and will soon be paraded. What we have observed at the scene made us to attribute the killing to ritual killing and not kidnapping because the corpse of the deceased was without two legs, hands and eyes.

“From the act, it is a ritual killing. Through police investigation, we have been able to arrest seven suspects among whom, two have confessed to the crime. One of them confessed that his mother was the spiritual mother of the girl when she was baptised.”
