1  Forum / The Buzz Central / Muscles & Makeup! Tinsel Star, Gbenro Ajibade Models At The African Fashion Week on: 24-07-2013 05:19 PM
They say a man has no business with a pretty face, but I beg to differ on all counts because these days the men, those masculine celebrities with a knack for the camera can never make it to any screen time without a dusting from a ‘makeup artist’ to give him the star-look and charm. But is that right? Pfft. Why you all strain your minds on that, the trend keeps growing, and it got a new follower.

Enter Gbenro Ajibade, a star of popular soap Tinsel. Who took to the New York runway recently, combining a dolled-up face and bulging muscles. Funny combination it is, but then, I kinda think it’s lovely. Maybe it’s me, maybe it’s the cold messing with us today…maybe. Check out his photos below from the African Fashion Week New York. Try not scream, please.

7  Forum / The Buzz Central / Reasons Why Funke Akindele's Marriage Crashed So Early on: 24-07-2013 03:21 PM

What went wrong?

It is no more speculation that the marriage, which was contracted on Saturday May 26, 2012, months after Nigerian Entertainment Today first spotted the couple at Industry Nite, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, has entered seriously troubled waters.

With more angles now coming out, including allegations ‘Almaroof, the man who stole Funke’s heart last year, swept her off her feet and landed her in the altar, has become a serial baby daddy, keeping a string of affairs, and even returning to the women he had prior to the celebrity wedding with Funke Akindele, it was only a matter of time before it was all out in the air.

Just like Mercy Johnson, who had a big pre-wedding scandal on her hands after the wife of the man she was to marry stepped out and tried to stop the wedding, Funke also had disgruntled wives to contend with. There were many fans, friends and colleagues too, who felt she did not need to settle with an already married man; with the attendant drama and chaos. But, as it is in the things of love, just like Mercy, Funke went ahead to tie the knot in what was unarguably, the most expensive, most glamorous celebrity wedding of 2012.

‘Everyone close to them knows the thing is not working and Funke is very unhappy. People have been advising her. She has just been busy shooting and trying to occupy herself. They have not even lived together since, but they are not divorced, and it is not like it is officially officially over. Couples separate and come back together. Even some divorced couples still settle. So why are people talking as if this is final?’ one friend told NET, over the weekend, insisting ‘people should mind their business or pray for the couple’

She was happy beyond limits on her wedding day. And the days to come were full of bliss. So were did it all go wrong? Or was it a facade all along?

Why the marriage failed

Prior to their high society wedding, it was widely reported that Kehinde had several children from different women, a fact that was no mystery to Funke. It was reported that he was married to two of the women, an allegation that the ‘Jenifa’ star denied in an interview with a publication.

She boasted, ‘I can tell you authoritatively that my husband is not married to anyone else. Yes, he has beautiful children, who are not mine and we have a cordial relationship, which dates back to even before we got married.’

But insiders have told Nigerian Entertainment Today that the actress would later shockingly find many surprises along the way; even as husband and wife started to discover there were so many things different about each of them. ‘You know when you are in a relationship, it is always a different thing from when you are in a marriage. Funke and Kenny have always had problems but they have managed to conceal it from the public. I don’t know if they have truly separated, but the marriage was becoming shakier by the day’, a confidant who did not want to be named told us..

For months there had been concerns that Funke’s husband was rarely seen around her at most events she honoured. Mr Oloyede’s photos are nowhere to be found on Funke’s Instagram page where she’s very active.

It was also widely speculated by observers that the marriage, right from the inception, seemed like it was destined to fail because of all the controversies that surrounded it. From Kehinde’s many wives to many children, and of course alleged strings of affairs, many opined it was surely going to hit the rocks sooner or later.

Moreover, for some reason, the couple allegedly chose to live apart, an action which, sources say, did not help their bonding.

If Funke no longer trusted her husband, then she was not alone. Many say it is possible Almaroof became suspicious of a very busy woman, especially withy her endorsement galore and frequent trips. But, unlike Almaroof, it is not certain if there were confirmed instances of infidelity on Funke’s part.

‘He can never say he caught her with any man, or that she cheated’, one Funke friend told us. Many others refused to comment on what is, understandably, a sensitive issue.

Whose mistake; Funke’s or Kehinde’s?

In his Facebook message which announce to the world the crack in their marriage, Kehinde refered to Funke as the greatest mistake he has made in recent times. ’Am doing just fine, gettn along without u, don’t need u anymore in ma life. u d greatest mistake av made in recent time’, he wrote.

This assertion leaves one thinking-who made a mistake? Was it Kehinde or Funke?

Funke had everything going for her, a budding career and a growing list of endorsement. Many believe her first mistake was getting involved with a man who was already married, and was rumoured to have an unquenchable thirst for women.

Her second mistake, according to NET findings, was assuming that once she and Kehinde were married, that he would only have eyes for her. If for some reason, she thought she could change the man, then that was her third mistake.

But it is apparent Almoroof has his many goofs too, and as one pundit put it ‘they will begin to emerge in no time. All the possible misdemeanour that could make a man say his wife is the greatest mistake he’s ever made. He’ll begin to speak soon. Only a matter of time’.

9  Forum / The Buzz Central / Child Not Bride: Tonto Dikeh, Monalisa Chinda, Charles Novia & Gbenga Adeyinka C on: 24-07-2013 12:05 PM

It keeps gathering pace and momentum. The protests and widespread condemnation of the decision of the Nigerian senators to pass a bill which makes legal the acquisition of child brides has been on the increase with notable celebrities such as Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Stella Damasus, Liz Benson & Stephanie Linus Okereke adding their influential weight against the bill. Awesome. And now it’s set to continue. 4 other heavyweights have joined the fray, and they aren’t just talking fire. They’re throwing punches, verbal punches. So ladies and gents, it’s with great pleasure that I introduce actresses Tonto Dikeh & Monalisa Chinda, movie director and intellectual,Charles Novia and comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka.

Below are their take on the issue. A lot of takes, actually.

Charles Novia

The movie man went for the argumentum ad hominem (attack on the individual), hitting the human facilitator of the controversial bill – Senator Yerima. In his words:

GOD PUNISH YOU, SENATOR YERIMA: I just read a purported defence of Senator Ahmed Yerima about the Underage Marriage bill he coerced his fellow dimwit Senators to pass into law. His lame excuses are as stupid as they are so archaic. A theory from a puerile mind: hiding under obtuse reasons to justify his segxwal appetites through a Holy Law. This neanderthal Senator is a threat to National Security and National Unity. I hear he aspires to be the next President or Vice-President of this country, Nigeria. I can safely tell him that his aspirations will come to nought.

After amputating hands and legd in Zamfara State and shipping them to the South West to beg for alms in a suspicious Political Sharia atmosphere as proved by both President Obasanjo and Mallam El Rufai in his book, the dense Senator wishes to justify his actions by blaming it on a skewed lifestyle in a fictitious city wher he lives! I don’t know how else to answer the irritant Senator but to heap God’s punishment upon him and his ilk.

May your ambitions to have a paedophile-imposed state never come to fruition and may you and your ilk have your political ambitions castrated. I join millions of women in Nigeria and beyond to abuse you and your friends in the Senate. And I will join them to celebrate too when your bill never sees the light of day. And it won’t. Trust me. It won’t. So sue me, A*#S.

Gbenga Adeyinka

The comic man stood with Novia on this one. Hitting straight at Yerima, and his Dad’s semen. Ouch. In his words:

“Good people, so sorry to disturb you this rainy afternoon. I just read the response from a truly sick Senator Ahmed Yerima, A second time governor, A two term senator and truly a  pervert trying to justify Child Marriage.

“He says that child marriage is a solution to abortion and prostitution. I guess it also must be a solution to Embezzlement, Bad leadership, Insecurity and all the other problems that he and his type have heaped on our nation since independence.

“If it is not that I was brought up not to insult adults, I would have called him a sorry excuse of a human being and a waste of his father’s sperm but I will not.

“I will only end this by telling him that nothing he says can ever justify marrying a baby as a wife, even if he claims they don’t sleep with them at a young age.

“Since he likes Egypt so much, I will end this by praying that may the fleas of a thousand Egyptian Camels infest his pubic area and armpit.”

Monalisa Chinda

Silky as snow, sleek as gold, the fair-skinned beauty ran with her rant to twitter, where she kept it coming straight from her bleeding heart. A saint, this one. In her words:

Tonto Dikeh
I saved the best for the last. Mad as shit, Tonto Dikeh, aka Poko Baby was true to her style, rolling it fast, dirty and real from the angry depths of her lovely crazy heart. She speaks her mind, and me likey! In her words:

Definitely, definitely, definitely, we must see this monster of a movie! The film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie‘s award-winning novel, “Half of a Yellow Sun” is here. True to their word, the movie is bursting at the seams with a smashing infusion of a stellar cast with stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave, Children of Men) and Thandie Newton (Crash, The Pursuit of Happyness) taking lead roles in this epic of family, love, and tribalism all crafted by Biyi Bandele, the elebrated Nigerian playwright.

Here is the official synopsis of the film via IndieWire

Weaving together the lives of four people swept up in the turbulence of war. Olanna (Newton) and Kainene (Rose) are glamorous twins from a wealthy Nigerian family. Returning to a privileged city life in newly independent 1960s Nigeria after their expensive English education, the two women make very different choices.

Olanna shocks her family by going to live with her lover, the “revolutionary professor” Odenigbo (Ejiofor) and his devoted houseboy Ugwu (Boyega) in the dusty university town of Nsukka; Kainene turns out to be a fiercely successful businesswoman when she takes over the family interests, and surprises herself when she falls in love with Richard (Mawle) an English writer.

Preoccupied by their romantic entanglements, and a betrayal between the sisters, the events of their life loom larger than politics. However, they become caught up in the events of the Nigerian civil war, in which the lgbo people fought an impassioned struggle to establish Biafra an independent republic, ending in chilling violence which shocked the entire country and the world.

14  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Pope Francis To Forgive Twitter Followers' Sins Online on: 23-07-2013 05:32 PM
That moment when someone re-tweets your sin

Pope Francis has revolutionized the Roman Catholic Church in many ways and now he's going after the world of social networks. It has been announced through the Sacred Apostolic Penitentiary publication that the Pope may forgive sins through Twitter, to encourage those that cannot afford to see him in Brazil to follow him through the TV or Internet.

The official announcement will be made next week during the World Youth Day 2013, which will take place in Brazil July 23-28 with the presence of millions of young people around the world. The initiative is to give "collective forgiveness" only to the Pope's followers on Twitter that have previously confessed their sins, have been absolved by a priest and have attended Mass. They may tune in the World Youth Day broadcasts and receive special papal indulgence, which can reduce the time a soul spends in purgatory.

According to iEnterate.com, many theologians have criticized the measure because it "distances the person of the priest, the only mediator between God and man," said one Vatican analyst. "You do not get an indulgence as you get a coffee from a machine," said Archbishop Claudio María Celli, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.

"It's not enough just to watch a mass online or follow Pope Francis via live streaming on your iPad or by connecting to Pope2You.net. These are just devices. What really counts is that the tweet that the Pope will send from Brazil or the photos from World Youth Day produce genuine spiritual fruit in the heart of the person," said Celli.

According to the Courier Mail, Monsignor John Kennedy told Vatican Radio that indulgences referred to God's kindness in forgiving the effects of sins. "They are linked to a theme that Pope Francis has spoken very frequently about since the moment of his election - that is to say, to the gift of God's mercy," Kennedy said.

On July 9, the Pope released a decree about indulgences and social media, according to Tennesean.com. "The faithful who on account of a legitimate impediment cannot attend the aforementioned celebrations may obtain Plenary Indulgence under the usual spiritual, sacramental and prayer conditions, in a spirit of filial submission to the Roman Pontiff, by participation in the sacred functions on the days indicated, following the same rites and spiritual exercises as they occur via television or radio or, with due devotion, via the new means of social communication," the Pope stated.
The Pope's Twitter account is @Pontifex and has over 2,600,000 followers, while its Spanish version is @Pontifex_es has nearly three million followers worldwide.

15  Forum / Politics / Sylva Accuses Dickson Of Incompetence, Advises Him To Resign on: 23-07-2013 05:27 PM
Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, has accused incumbent Seriake Dickson of “incompetence and failure”, following a demonstration by pensioners in the state to protest the administration’s failure to pay their entitlements.
Dickson had blamed Sylva over the state’s high pension liabilities, saying the latter did not pay the pensioners while he held sway as governor.

In a statement on Monday by his aide, Sylva asked the Governor to resign “since he has shown that the job for which he was imposed on the people of Bayelsa State is bigger than him.”

According to him, Bayelsa State has suffered a severe governance deficit under Dickson, adding that the Governor is interested “only in power and not the responsibility that goes with the high office he was brought to occupy.”

Below is the full text of Sylva’s statement:

At a so-called Transparency Briefing at the weekend, newspaper reports quote Dickson as claiming that the Bayelsa State Government under Chief Timipre Sylva never paid pensions to retirees for five years. He claims further that his administration inherited unpaid pension arrears of over N4 billion. Consequently, he would like to establish a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to probe Sylva.

We are sick and tired of Dickson’s governance style of always blaming Chief Timipre Sylva for his incompetence and failure. We call upon Dickson to resign now since he has shown that the job for which he was imposed on the people of Bayelsa State is bigger than him. Failing which the people of Bayelsa State should exercise their civic duty to remove him from office using all available constitutional options.

Dickson’s claim about non-payment of pensioners from May 2007- January 2012 is scandalous, petty and irresponsible. This is clear for the following reasons:

1)   When Sylva took over as Governor of Bayelsa State from Dr Goodluck Jonathan, there were outstanding pension and gratuity arrears, and no noise was made about it. As a leader, Sylva took responsibility on the conviction that government is a continuum.  Pensioners were paid along with people still in service, promptly and monthly. Those who retired from service at the time also received their gratuity once the appropriate documentations were done. Not even Sylva’s opponents could accuse him of non-payment of salaries and pensions. By our records, the state government paid an average of N216 million monthly and about N2.6 billion per annum on pensions.
2)   If nobody protested over non-payment of pension for five years, it means pensioners as well as labor in Bayelsa were satisfied with the Sylva administration.

3)   Why is Dickson restricting his pension probe to the period from 2007- 2012? Why not commence from the beginning of civilian rule in the state in 1999? Why the obsession with Sylva?

4)   Dickson has been in office since February 2012. In April 2012, he set up a kangaroo 11-person Financial Management Review Committee headed by Mr Ndutimi Alaibe to probe Sylva. Yet, Dickson is only just realizing – in July 2013 – that pension funds were mismanaged from 2007-2012.

5)   Dickson says it has come to his knowledge that the pension thieves in Bayelsa State used the stolen funds to build hotels and buy exotic cars. Meaning that he already knows who these criminals are. So, why set up a Judicial Commission of Inquiry?

6)    Dickson and his master at the top have run out of options in the schizoid attempt to ruin the political career of Sylva hence the decision to set up this Judicial Commission of Inquiry. By working to the answer, they would like the Commission to indict Sylva having failed in their previous attempts with the Alaibe Committee, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Under Dickson, Bayelsa State has suffered a severe governance deficit. By all indications, Dickson is interested only in power and not the responsibility that goes with the high office he was brought to occupy. Having struggled to hide his lack of capacity under the name of Sylva and seen clearly that this strategy is no longer workable, the only option left for Dickson is to resign now.
16  Forum / Celebrity Talk & Discussions / Joseph Yobo Replies Nay Sayers ''I Will Not Swap My Wife For Anyone Else...'' on: 23-07-2013 05:21 PM

The Yobo's
Last week National Enquirer Magazine published on its print and online portal a story that Joseph Yobo had sent his Mother In law Mrs Fashanu packing for poke nosing in his marital affairs.
The story found its way to this blog and i contacted Mrs Yobo via twitter to respond to it but there was no response.
Mrs and Mrs Yobo have spoken to their publicist Abiola Aloba of Maestromedia and responded to the allegations...which is good.
He also talks smittenly about how he feels about his wife and how naysayers will never pull them down.
''There's is no iota of truth in the report that has gained grounds of recent'' ''There was no encounter of the such that was described to have happened between my mother-in-law and I''. We as a family are in the best of place in our lives currently. Someone from some place, just sat down and decided to construct a lie: a total fabrication from their own imagination.

He went on further ''I love my wife and I love her very much, nothing anyone does can bring any division between us and between our families. The Yobos & the Fashanus have a great relationship, a fantastic one at that and very good mutual respect for each other, and we thank God for that.

There was never a time that I sent my Mother-in-Law packing from my home for being a bad influence on her own daughter, who is my wife. How can people just come up with stories about what never happened.
We have no problems at all'.  We have 2 great houses next to each other in Istanbul, Turkey that is big enough to accommodate our families, without anyone invading on anyone's privacy. They are just trying to destroy the 2 families.

When we first came across the stories, we thought okay it was just one of those silly little gossips and that it would soon fade away and be forgotten. Only for us to read it and found out it was very well orchestrated pack of lies, from the beginning to the end of it: they didn't even know where I am from and claimed I am from Plateau State.

They constructed lies about my mother-in-law and her family, claiming all that is not true and that they have no proof of. Most definitely, this is just somebody trying to damage these families. I can tell you categorically, I would not swap my wife for anybody in this world, no woman from anywhere can take her place, she means the world to me.

The number of calls we have received over this falsehood is unbelievable. People calling to find out what was going on.  I tell you now and this is the absolute truth- ''My wife is my best friend, she's my queen, she's my everything, our families are doing great and doing very well together. Anyone thinking otherwise is only wasting his or her time''.

I am not going to allow anyone disrespect my Mother-in-law wrongfully. I am not going to accept this. They have stepped way out of line this time and I am not going to take it lying low. We would definitely seek legal redress.

He is going ahead to sue now because he alleges that what has been published borders on outright unfounded allegations that cannot be substantiated by the writers of the publications.

*They are so young and beautiful together.Thank God that all is well between them.
*Yobo just won my heart with the way he talked so affectionately about his wife,i see him being my next hottie*wink*
