A 21-year-old husband, Innocent Akpan of Kado village, Abuja, was on Monday arraigned before a Senior Magistrates’ Court for pouring hot water on his wife.
Police prosecutor Clement Egwu told the court that on Aug. 29, Mrs Idongesit Sunday, the wife of the accused, reported the case to the Life Camp Police Station.
Egwu said the accused poured hot water, which contained pepper, on the wife because of a quarrel they had when the wife found out that her husband was having a segxwal relationship with their neighbour.
Egwu further told the court that the wife sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident, and had since been hospitalised.
He said the accused was charged with causing grievous hurt and adultery contrary to provisions of Sections 247 and 387 of the Penal Code.
The accused pleaded guilty, saying that it was the work of the Devil.
Following his plea, the prosecutor urged the court to defer the sentence to Sept. 24 to watch the victim’s response to treatment.
Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Illelah adjourned the case to Sept. 24.

Umuahia — A 29 year-old man, Kelechi Ebere, was yesterday arraigned before an Umuahia Magistrate Court for allegedly molesting an eight year primary three pupil.

The suspect, who is in-charge of public toilets owned by the Foodstuff Retailers and Traders Union, Umuahia, (FRATU), pleaded not guilty to the offence when the charge was read to him.

The magistrate, Mrs. Eunice Ezebuiro, said the court decided to hold the session in its chambers to protect the identity of the rape victim. However, the matter was later adjourned to mid-September 2012, after a plea was taken from the accused. The magistrate also ordered that the accused person be remanded in police custody. Daily Trust gathered that the suspect committed the offence on August 28, 2012, when the victim entered his room to watch a movie.

Speaking to Daily Trust, the victim's mother, Mrs. Emeribe, who is a widow, said she had warned her children against entering the rooms of their neighbours. "I want the man to explain why he violated my little daughter. I don't even know if he did it for ritual purposes, because one wonders the attraction in an 8 year-old girl," she said.

Denisa Camacho, 28, of God Manchester, Cambridge shire, and Katrina Papiernikova, 27, of  Romford, Essex both had relationships with Uzoma-Ubani, after arriving in the UK from Slovakia and were accused of turning a blind eye to his activities.

Uzoms-Ubani, of Romford, Essex, married Camacho married in 2004, then divorced her and had two children by Papiernikova.

 The women both insisted they knew nothing about his crooked schemes and were both cleared of money laundering, but a third lover Ornela Miguel, 26, admitted the offence.

 Uzoma-Ubani and fellow Nigerian Leonard Nwannenah, 33, of Dagenham, Essex, opened a ‘bewildering’ 752 bank accounts using the names of hard-working medics and members of the armed forces over a six-year period.

 The pair were jailed for six years each while Miguel was handed a three-month sentence, suspended for 12 months.

 Nwannenah’s younger brother Okechi Nwannenah, 30, of Dagenham and Okechi’s wife Jennifer Okonkwo, 29, also allowed their bank accounts to be used to launder the proceeds.

 Okechi was conditionally discharged for 18 months while Okonkwo will be sentenced later.
