Forum / The Buzz Central / CAF U-23: Nigeria v Egypt: We’re not Father Xmas, Siasia charges players |
on: 2-12-2015 12:41 AM
| Kick-off: 6:45pm Head coach of the U-23 national team, Dream Team VI Samson Siasia has said his players cannot afford to give out free gifts to the Egyptians when they play the second group game today at the ongoing U-23 African Nations Cup in Senegal. Coach Siasia made this disclosure yesterday at the pre-match press conference held at the Caroline Faye Stadium, M’Bour. According to Siasia, “We were damn lucky in our first game against Mali, after watching that game again, all I can say is that this is not Christmas yet and as such my players can not give out free gifts, because if we do that against an organised side like Egypt who are good in set pieces, then we are finished” “Our target today is to go all out and attack, attack, attack, because that is our strong point, then we will work on our defence line, so that we don’t give out cheap and easy passes to our opponents” Expressing satisfaction with the performance of his team despite conceding two second half goals, the U-23 gaffer said what is uppermost was that they won the game and got the 3 points, and that a win against Egypt will put the team in the semi final, so they have to work very hard. On whether he will use Chile U-17 top scorer Victor Osimhen in the competition, coach Siasia had this to say “the young man is in my plans, when the right time comes I will introduce him, he has a lot of potentials that I can tell you, but we need to wait for the right time, he is a part of this team. The game against the junior pharaohs of Egypt comes up Wednesday 6.45 pm Nigerian time at the Caroline Faye Stadium, M’Bour.

Forum / Sports / FIFA withdraws bronze boot award from Kelechi Nwakali at the U-17 World Cup |
on: 2-12-2015 12:00 AM
| What an error! FIFA has claimed they made a mistake by awarding the Bronze Boot at the recently concluded U-17 world cup in Chile to Kelechi Nwakali instead of Samuel Chukwueze. Albeit both netted 3 goals and made 3 assists, the world governing body discovered that Samuel had less playing time than Kelechi. This was conveyed in a letter written to the NFF and posted on NFF website. ‘Instead of player no. 8 of Nigeria, Samuel Chukwueze, the player Kelechi Nwakali (player no. 10 of Nigeria) received the adidas Bronze Boot. However, if two or more players are still equal (after goals and assists), the player who has played fewer number of minutes will be ranked first,’ ‘Adidas will send you another Bronze Boot in December 2015, which we would kindly ask you to hand over to Samuel Chukwueze. Please be informed that Kelechi Nwakali may keep his trophy.’ | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / BlackBerry brings BBM mobile payments to Nigeria |
on: 1-12-2015 11:36 PM
| BlackBerry has set out plans to grab a slice of the African mobile money market, beginning with the launch of a feature in Nigeria that lets users send money to each other through the BBM messaging service. Blackberry may be struggling to compete with Apple and Android in the west, but the Canadian phone maker claims to be seeing strong numbers in Africa, particularly for BBM, which has more than 22 million registered users on the continent sending some 380 million messages a day. The firm is now setting its sights on the potentially huge mobile payments market, beginning with Nigeria, where it has partnered processor Interswitch to enable people to transfer money or airtime within BBM "as simply as they transfer photos or files," says Matthew Talbot, SVP, emerging solutions, in a blog. In addition, First Bank of Nigeria's mobile wallet, Firstmonie, is being added as a BBM Shop payment option and a deal has been struck with local outfit Mobile Media Info Tech to bring secure transactions to the to the Shop. Talbot says that payment developments are also in the pipeline in South Africa, adding "we’re quickly establishing BBM as a leading messaging platform for mobile payments". | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 107 soldiers reported missing as Boko Haram destroys troops’ Ularamu base |
on: 1-12-2015 11:30 PM
| The Nigerian military has denied the reported attack on a military base in northern Nigeria. ABC News reports Monday evening that Boko Haram fighters attacked a military base in Ularamu, and destroyed the compound. The newspaper said after soldiers, yet to be accounted for, disappeared, residents picked up arms and stopped Boko Haram from overrunning their town. “Locals fought the militants through the night until military reinforcements arrived on Monday morning,” it said. However, the military has maintained that no soldiers were missing, but there were reports of searches being conducted to find the 107 missing troops. The latest report came barely two weeks after Boko Haram insurgents at Gudunbali, Borno State attacked the 157 Battalion of the Nigerian Army. Over 100 soldiers, including their commanding officer, were reported missing. Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, said the troops had returned, but images showing dead soldiers emerged online, questioning his comment. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / I’m ready to abdicate throne for Biafra – Eze Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s father |
on: 1-12-2015 11:06 PM
| As the River Nile runs from Victoria in Uganda to Egypt, so activism runs in the family of the traditional ruler of Afaraukwu in Umuahia, the Abia State capital. From the monarch himself, His Royal Majesty, Eze Sir I. O. Kanu, Eze Ikputu of Afara Ukwu Ibeku in Umuahia, to the least of his children, it’s all the same blue blood of activism permanently glued in their veins. In the early 1990s, Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel, spearheaded the agitation for the reduction of school fees. Now Nnamdi, is leading a group to demand the freedom of Biafra. In this interview, their father, HRH Eze Kanu, who said it was activism that made him represent his area three times as Councillor, said he was ready to abdicate his throne over the course for which his son is being detained. Excerpts: How do you feel concerning your son appearing in court last week? I’m very happy that he was brought to court on Monday (last week). From what I heard, as I was not able to go because of my health, I was impressed at least my family members were able to see him. You may have had high hopes your son would be released last week, but he was not. How do you react to this failed expectation? Well, it’s true that his release has taken time, but every Biafran in Abuja, I learnt, was protesting that he be released. Even those of them that were not on their Biafran uniform later changed to it, flying their flags and also chanting that he should be released. It made me sad that he was not released because I expected them to release him on that very day, but it didn’t come through, instead they adjourned the case. Do you think it is just for him to continue to be in custody? No, I don’t see any reason they should not obey the order, which granted him bail; they should not continue to detain him. He is not supposed to be in cell any more. What’s your appeal to the Federal Government? I’m appealing to the Federal Government and (President Muhammadu) Buhari) in particular to release my son because he is not fighting with arms; he is just talking with his mouth. Also, half of Nigerians believe that he has not done any wrong and he should be released. Buhari should tamper justice with mercy and release him because he has not come to destroy, rather he wants to set things right. If Biafra is granted, there is nothing Nigerians will look for in Biafra that they will not get; the same is applicable to Biafrans. Using the case of Lot of Abraham as an example, we want peace. We are not the same as the northerners; so I don’t see any reason any one who knows the right thing will not do it. If we go to other countries, we will see how they gained their independence. Will you advice your son to stop the Biafran pursuit for his freedom? No, I will not. Biafra is not only applicable to my family; it is for everyone. Would you abdicate your throne as condition for Biafra to be realised? Yes, even in the next 24 hours I will agree if that is the condition necessary for Biafrans to be free. My kingship is not as important as Biafran freedom. Why is Biafra so important to you? Biafra is important to me because there is nothing greater than one’s freedom. Yes, we are just like slaves the way we are. For example, the newly appointed ministers, can’t you see we are rejected. All the positions we are supposed to get they shared among themselves; so I want Biafra. What word do you have for your son, Nnamdi? I am asking him to be patient; what we do not get today might be got tomorrow. Nothing is going to happen to him, by Gods grace. Let him be careful with the food and water he takes there because they can kill him through any means possible. Even if he dies today, many others will rise for the actualisation of Biafra till the end, but we don’t pray for such to happen. | | | |
