21  Forum / Politics / ACN Convention Adopts APC As New Party on: 19-04-2013 04:12 AM
LAGOS – APPROXIMATELY 4671 delegates of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Thursday in Lagos unanimously adopted the All Progressive Congress, APC, as its new politicalparty.
Also, the party ratified the expulsion of some members approval of merger with other political parties and groups, approval of new name All Progressive Congress with acronymAPC and approvals of new Constitution, manifesto, flag, logo and slogan.

There’s urgent need for change – Akande
In his opening address, National Chairman of the ACN, Chief Bisi Akande said “this convention is a special one. The urgent need for change as the country desires to rescue our country compelled us to provide an alternative leadership for Nigeria. We must not entertain any fear or surrender to blackmail. We must be mindful that merger is new in Nigeria.

A storm is brewing – Tinubu
Lending his voice, national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu urged Nigerians to be part of history just as he predicted that a political storm is brewing in the country.

No ulterior motive to merger- Buhari
For ACN and CPC, it was not an alien issue, it was a continuation of what we started in 2011. Time was against us and all I can say is that the rest is history. This time around, we started early to build on the foundation we have laid in 2010. I assure you that all those who are consistent, that are concerned with this system of solidifying democracy should know that the only solution is this merger.

22  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Tinubu’s Rousing Speech At The ACN Convention on: 19-04-2013 04:10 AM
1. History is upon us, asking something bold of us. Those who hear must respond to its call because history is impatient. If we tarry, history shall not. If we fail to act as the situation requires, history will still move forward and its pen will write an unanswerable verdict against us. All the prior achievements and feats we have recorded in the past will matter little unless we now answer the challenge now facing us.
We have come to the place where things must change or we shall sink. For the nation to continue as is constitutes nothing less than an invitation to doom. Such a fate we shall not abide.

2. The hour is late and our chance for national progress reduces with each idle moment. The way Nigeria is governed must change and change dramatically. This means the shape of politics must change.
Nigeria must be a prosperous, secure, safe nation that helps weaker nations attain peace and stability. Instead we are beset by woe on all sides. Boko Haram falls upon our people in the North. MEND in the Niger delta falls upon us. Kidnapping and robbery encircle the nation as if we have become a training ground for criminal misconduct.

3. Rich in manpower and material resources, Nigeria should set the agenda for economic development and broadly shared prosperity on the African continent. Today, the opposite is the case. Instead of having a wealth of domestically produced goods in our manufacturing basket, we hold a virtually empty basket. As such, we have become a basket case.
More Nigerians than ever before suffer under the daily grind of poverty. Unemployment is so rampant among our youth that finding a job is no longer the natural progression of life. It is seen as a miracle.

4. Even then, upon finding work, too many people soon discover they labor for wages below the subsistence level. For them there is too many days left until the end of the month after the money is finished. With too little food and more tears in their eyes than drinkable water in their cups, they stare into the darkness of   despair on a constant basis.
This is not the way of a great nation. It is the way of heartless and mean governance that puts the interests of small elite above the interests of the common working man and woman who are the soul and backbone of this nation.

5. We should have a vast land transportation system that moves our active, energetic population safely and moves our goods and produce cheaply. Instead, our roads have become portals of death where people perish by the dozens — one accident after another.
Yet, those in command do nothing for the average Nigerian who is forced to run this gauntlet of death for his daily crumbs of bread. Instead, those who could improve this situation for the good of all do just enough to make things better for themselves.

6. Where the road is bad, they budget for it, still the road gets worse off. Where the road is impassable, they offer excuses and empty promises. The touted improvement in electricity supply is now a mirage. In the midst of petrol dollars and abundance of natural gas Nigerians are without a commensurate standard of living. Our billions are embezzled and shared to cronies. The slogan of the ruling party is power, but corruption is the fuel that powers their government.
In a prior age, an arrogant ruler reportedly once scoffed regarding her starving population, “let them eat cake.” Today, our rulers scoff at our people “let them face death.”
The current way of governance makes nation building impossible.  What it does is make poverty and the erosion of a just society inevitable.

7. We have gathered at this hour and in this place to put an end to this national corrosion. We have assembled to bring a new day and a new Nigeria to our people.
The Nigerian people are decent and hard-working people. They also are long –suffering.  Just because they are long –suffering does not mean they should be forced to suffer until death comes.
Our people have had enough of having nothing. The current government’s trademark is to throw empty words and hollow action at our problems as if doing nothing will cause our troubles to leave from sheer boredom.  Instead, trouble mounts.

8. If this is the government’s idea of transformation, I will have none of it. It seems their notion of change is to go from slow motion to no motion at all.
If they want to stand still, that is their right. However, they have no right to force the whole nation to stagnate with them. We have things to accomplish and progress to make for the good of the people.
If they have nothing to offer except the nothing they have been giving us, let’s join hands with others to sweep them aside. so that we can keep pushing through and move this nation upward and forward.

9. This is why we hold our convention today. This convention portends the coming of great political change. A storm is brewing. Don’t be frightened. It is a positive storm with a positive wind. Those things that have no roots and offer no solution to the plight of the people shall be swept away. This storm will change the political terrain forever.  I am not afraid of this storm. I welcome it because the storm is us- our new vision. Our new party.

10. I stand to tell you that for the good of Nigeria this must be the last and final convention of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.  As one of the national leaders of this party, I have dedicated myself to our political collaboration. I am attached to it in the strongest way. I am proud of what we have accomplished. Had we not held fast in the southwest against onslaught and intrigue, Nigeria would effectively be a one party state. When history rights its tale of the past decade, it will say the ACN preserved Nigerian democracy when it came under great threat.

11. But we must enter a new phase if poverty and want are to be lifted from the backs of our people. Given the destructive nature of PDP governance, we can no longer be satisfied with preserving democratic practice and with serving as the opposition. The first step in changing Nigeria for the better is to change government for the better.

12. Weighing all things in the balance, if I must decide between the existence of this party and the improvement of Nigeria, I must choose the improvement of Nigeria. That is our duty and responsibility. While it would be most comfortable to remain with our party as is, with its unique symbol, manifesto and constitution, we are not here to do what is comfortable. We are here to do what is right for our people and our country.
We are here to answer to a greater, higher calling.  That calling is the love of Nigeria.

13. To rescue Nigeria from the blight of misgoverance, we must join hands with like-minded progressives in other parties and organizations. We must sacrifice our current partisan identity to create a larger one capable of assuming leadership at the national level. This and only this offers the best chance for Nigeria at this stage. We dare not miss this chance because we cannot be sure of another.

news reaching hype arena exclusively confirms that Lynxxx, Omawumi, Tiwa Savage, Flavour, MI, Bez, Naeto C, Chidynma, and Lagbaja will soon be announced as the new ambassadors for telecoms giant, Globacom. The music stars or their reps met with the management of Glo at the conference room of Eko Hotel from Monday to Friday last week.

According to the gist, Glo is planning to cut down on the number of old Nollywood stars who are currently their ambassadors (I know some of the ones that will be dropped but let me not announce it here because they are yet to informed), and replace them with young, vibrant music stars. I hear the next phase will be comedians.

The new ambassadors have been interviewed, they have also negotiated the cost of engagement for a period of two years (They each will be getting between N10m/N20m annually). They have also agreed to terms and conditions for the engagement.
hmmm can see some people will be smiling to the banks sooon. really wish both parties gooodluck.

32  Forum / Politics / PDP, CAN, ACF disagree on amnesty for Boko Haram on: 6-04-2013 09:37 AM
http:///2013/04/pdp-can-acf-disagree-on-amnesty-for.html
The Christian Association of Nigeria has criticised President Goodluck Jonathan for his decision to set up a committee that will pave the way for amnesty for the Boko Haram Islamic sect.

It said the decision showed that he (Jonathan) was not in charge.

According to the association, granting amnesty to the sect only shows that lawlessness is a profitable venture in Nigeria.

“The fact that Jonathan has allowed himself to be intimidated by traditional rulers, Northern Elders Forum, Arewa Consultative Forum and Muslim clerics from the North shows that he is not in charge of the situation. If he is a President that is in charge, he should demonstrate to the world that nobody is above the law in this country,” CAN stated.

The Public Relations Officer of CAN (Northern states and Abuja), Mr. Sunny Oibe, told one of our correspondents that the decision was a bad signal for the country.

He said, “If the government has decided to set up a committee to consider granting amnesty to Boko Haram under the watchful eyes of the National Security Adviser without compensating people that have been killed, it then goes to show that something is fundamentally wrong with our society and government.

“How can President Goodluck Jonathan, who, not long ago, said he could not grant amnesty to ghosts, now decide to set up a committee for amnesty? During the administration of his boss, the late Umar Yar’Adua, he did not go about chasing the Niger Delta militants.

“Rather, the citizens from the South-South region went and talked to their boys to lay down their arms and engage the government constructively. The question is: who are the members of this Boko Haram? If the government is not careful, this amnesty for Boko Haram will encourage insurgencies throughout the country.

“It means that if you have to get government’s attention, you have to engage in lawlessness. The granting of amnesty to Boko Haram goes to show that lawlessness is a profitable venture in Nigeria. It will encourage the younger generation to embark on lawlessness so that government will give them attention.

“Honestly, as Christians from the North who have suffered the brunt of the Boko Haram insurgency, we are saying no to amnesty and if Jonathan is going ahead to consider amnesty for them, in view of the over 2,000 Nigerian Christians that have been killed in the North, burnt churches and business premises, he must be ready to engage the Christians because the silence of the church does not mean that we don’t know what to do.

“Boko Haram members didn’t tell us that they are fighting because of poverty, unemployment and hunger. But they said they want an Islamic state. Is that the reason why government now wants to have a dialogue with them and thereby pave the way for more states in the North? Nigerians are watching carefully; but they should know that by encouraging lawlessness, they still have the forces of Christians in Nigeria to contend with and we will not take it.”

But the General Secretary of CAN, Dr. Musa Asake, said he would only comment after the committee had completed its work.

He said, “Let’s wait for the committee to finish their work and when the committee gives their own recommendation, it is then we can comment. Now, it is just for the committee to look at the whole issue and make a recommendation. Normally, nobody is saying there should not be amnesty, but we are saying amnesty for who?”

But the Arewa Consultative Forum, on Friday, hailed the decision of the President to set up a committee to look into the call for amnesty for Boko Haram.

The National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Mr. Anthony Sani, in a telephone conversation with one of our correspondents, said it had always been the position of the forum that the insurgents be given amnesty to prepare the groundwork for negotiation with the group.

He said it was only logical for the Federal Government to explore other options to tackle the Boko Haram issue since the use of force had failed.

He said the offer of amnesty would bring out some of those involved in the raging security crisis in the North contrary to the claim of the government that they were faceless.

Sani said that the mere declaration that the Boko Haram was faceless without taking further steps would not solve the problem.

He said, “This is what we have been canvassing; we have been saying that since the use of force has failed, why not use other options, the option of amnesty.

“Government has been insisting that they are ghosts, they are faceless. Amnesty may be a way of bringing them out.

“All of them may not come out at the beginning; some may come out and the process of dialogue would start from there,” he said

A former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, hailed the decision of the government to consider amnesty for Boko Haram members and described it as “great news,” which according to him, would put an end to the security crisis and wanton loss of lives in the country.

He called on the sect to honour the government gesture by laying down their arms and coming to the dialogue table.

Asked about the refusal of the FG to compensate victims of the sect’s murderous attacks, the retired CP noted that this would cost a lot of money which the government may not be able to pay.
33  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Military Chiefs Angry With Boko-Haram Amnesty on: 6-04-2013 09:29 AM
http:///2013/04/military-chiefs-angry-with-boko-haram.html
A new plan by President Goodluck Jonathan to grant amnesty to members of the violent Boko Haram sect has upset Nigeria’s military chiefs.

Sources at the Presidential Villa, where the military brass met with the President for several hours today, said they tried in vain to convince Mr. Jonathan not to fall into the trap that has been set for him by prominent northern leaders on the issue.

They were said to have told him the security implications of the action and that it could also be interpreted to mean that the President is not a man of his word. Mr. Jonathan has flip-flopped on federal policy against Boko Haram since he took office in 2010.

The military bosses reminded him of his words when he visited Borno State a few weeks ago when he said that there was no way he would grant amnesty to ghosts, stressing that nothing has changed. Mr. Jonathan once said there were members of Boko Haram in his government, but it is not clear if they are still ghosts or he has identified them.

He was also said to have been reminded that many of their men and other security officers have been indiscriminately killed, warning him that telling the rank and file the decision on amnesty could ignite anger in the barracks.

At the end of the lengthy discussion, which lasted for five hours, the President had his way against the genuine advice of the military chiefs, except one. He set up a committee to handle the issue of amnesty.

The committee, whose members are yet to be announced, is to work with the office of the National Security Adviser.

A Presidential source said that the committee will consider the feasibility or otherwise of granting pardon to the Boko Haram members and collate the views of those clamouring for amnesty, as well as recommend modalities for the granting of pardon should such a policy be adopted.

President Jonathan seems to have adopted the argument of the northern elements after meeting with some of their prominent members in Abuja on Wednesday night. Although today he seem highly disposed to the amnesty idea, he is known to change his mind fairly easily.

37  Forum / Religion / ''Jesus Did Not Die on the Cross, He Was In a Coma'' - Sheikh Gumi on: 4-04-2013 03:24 PM

Respected Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has sensationally asserted that Jesus Christ did not die on the cross and there was therefore no basis for Christians to celebrate Easter.
According to Gumi, Jesus was only comatose. Gumi made this postulation on his facebook page on a post titled 'Easter Musings'.
Read below;
EASTER MUSINGS!

We thank Allah the Benevolent the Merciful, for passing us through the Easter season without any significant insecurity issue more especially against the Christian. We are happy for that and we applaud all for the peace-calling speeches we heard from all quarters.

Since Easter is meant to be a period of spiritual contemplation, the best gift we can offer our Christian fellows is another prism to see through and re-contemplate.

Religion is not defined by its adherents but by the theological basis of its deliverance. For instance, if Boko Haram, are the ones that define Islam, then Islam will be like a candle in broad day light burning itself out. Nor the sultanate or any other traditional or cultural organization or religious order for that matter. Nay, Islam is defined by the scriptural purity of its universal message. In that sense also, the church today does not define Christianity nor what the Christians do or don’t do. Christianity is equally defined by its theology.

The theological basis, on which Easter celebrates, is the foundation of the Christian faith. St. Paul wrote: “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.“ Resurrection purports the necessity to believe that Jesus – alaihis Salam- died on the cross. On this all canonical Christians agree. Their belief is that Jesus was killed by crucifixion (c.f. cruci-fiction). While the Quran came categorically plain that Jesus was never killed by any method, crucifixion included. “And because of their boasting (Jews): "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah”.;- but They killed Him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety They killed Him not:- Nay, Allah raised Him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted In power, Wise;- And there is none of the people of the Book but must believe In Him before His death; and on the Day of Judgment He will be a witness against them;”- Q4/157-159.

These are words of the Quran, clear and unambiguous that Jesus Christ was not killed by the Jews or Romans. Beyond that, neither the Quran nor any Hadith attributed to the prophet –peace be upon him- explained the details of what happened to him. For the Islamic theologians they had to also depend on some Jewish narrations called “israeliyat” with what literally tally with the Quranic verse of their understanding. That is why the difference of opinion as to who was actually the fellow that was made to resemble Jesus.

Part of the miracles of the Holy Quran is the malleability and selection of words -like a master key- to repute different wrong and faulty theological discrepancies at a go. What the Quran said was that the Jews who claimed they have killed Jesus on the cross are in dispute and are only following their thoughts – conjecture. “and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety They killed Him not”.

Strangely for them, such doubts were recorded among the canonical Christians. (Joh:19:31: The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Joh:19:32: Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.Joh:19:33: But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:).

The testimony of his death on the cross came from a distance observation of Roman soldiers - the executioners “and saw that he was dead already”. On the contrary, on close observation, of one of them, the bible recorded, doubted and therefore took a different cause to ascertain whether he actually died. (Joh:19:34: BUT one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. Joh:19:35: And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. Joh:19:36: For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. Joh:19:37: And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.)

Here we are: “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe” that he was not dead when he was brought down from the cross. He was then only comatose. Therefore, the Quran here is also a perfect answer for this line of theological belief. Allah said in the Quran “”.;- but They killed Him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety They killed Him not:- Nay, Allah raised Him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted In power, Wise;”. It explains the logic behind the emphasis “, for of a surety They killed Him not”. For those non canonical Christian scriptures like the disputed Gospel of Barnabas, where Jesus was substituted with another disciple, the Quranic expression “but so it was made to appear to them” is read as “but so he was made to appear to them”.

Whichever way Christians and non-Christians follow, the Quran exposes the dispute therein in the one of the four canonical gospels and augment their uncertainty of his death on the cross as is in their scriptures, the very foundation of which billions of faithful hang their salvation on.

Let us figuratively look at the issue this way. A thirsty man with the choices of either drinking a glass of a probably poisoned milk or an ascertained pure glass of water would drink the water. No two sane people will argue about this logic. This is the lesson the Quran casted on the end of the life of one of the greatest human that lived. Leave what is doubtful and follow what is simple and clear. Jesus – alaihis Salam- taught in unequivocal terms that God is the Master in charge and should only be worshiped directly, so why do people bet on the most unsubstantiated historical account of his life as the foundation of their faith? This when he has clearly shown his limitations. “And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.” M't:20:23. “ … no intercessor (can plead with him) except after His leave (hath been obtained). This is Allah your Lord; Him Therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition? Q10/3.

Let us all join hands to worship one God; there is no Deity except Him.

May Allah guide us all to the straight path.

39  Forum / Politics / Jonathan, others will go through primaries –PDP on: 4-04-2013 09:10 AM
http:///2013/04/jonathan-others-will-go-through.html
The Peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday,  said that there was no move to amend its constitution to pave the way for President Goodluck Jonathan  and second term governors as the sole aspirants of the party at the 2015 primaries.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisah Metuh, who stated this at a news conference in Abuja, said all aspirants of the party would go through the primaries.
Metuh commented on the alleged discreet move by the party’s National Executive Committee to amend the constitution to enable  the  President  and second term governors to have the right of first refusal as it is being done in the United States.
In the US, political parties give incumbent president and governors-automatic tickets if they want to re-contest.

The ticket will only be thrown open  if the incumbent does not want to re-contest.
Metuh said the PDP’s National Executive Committee did not have the power to amend the constitution.
He said, “On constitution amendment, the NEC does not have the power to handle such. It is above the power of the NEC. The constitution provides that there should be primaries and  that everybody must go through  primaries; you must be able to come to the national convention and I do not know why people are talking about it.
“I am the National Publicity Secretary, nobody in the executive; nobody in the legislature; nobody in the administration of the party has ever mentioned it in my presence. Nobody has ever told me. I have never been informed. Nobody in the administration of the party has said he has heard it.
“Now, why is it so important for us to talk about amendment of the constitution or no amendment, we have a constitution   that must be followed to the letter. As long as this constitution remains, there will be primaries. People will be free to run primaries according to the constitution of our party.   That is where we stand. The constitution says that there will be primary. You cannot go against the constitution”
He also spoke on the crisis that trailed the removal of the National Secretary of the party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and other officials from the South-West.
Metuh said that the matter was still in court, adding that the problem would be resolved based on court decision.
He stated, “I will have really loved to speak a lot about this issue of Oyinlola, Oni and what is happening in the South-West. The matter is subjudice. It is in court and being a lawyer, I am weary of making any statement that might be contemptuous of a court.”READ MORE CLICK ON THIS LINK http:///2013/04/jonathan-others-will-go-through.html

No fewer than 5,000 people were rendered homeless on Wednesday night folowing a  fire outbreak in Kara, Isheri area of Ogun State, where properties worth several millions were destroyed.
The makeshift structures, opposite the cattle market, popularly called Zaria Estate, were razed, but no live was lost in the incident.
The fire, which eyewitnesses said began around 6.30pm, was said to have been caused by one of the residents, who was preparing a meal.
The fire reportedly caught one of the wooden rooms, and spread through fuels which some of the people stored in containers in their rooms.

Kola Akanmu, a supplier of water and drinks, who said he lost all his sources of livelihood including N100,000 cash said, “We thought we could easily put out the fire. All our effort was abortive as the inferno spread further. If I had known, I would have gone to evacuate my things. I am in deep trouble now because I don’t know what to tell people from whom I just got goods which I am yet to pay for.”
Another lady, simply called Hajia, who sells food, was said to have lost over N300,000 in the fire.
One Garba Yamzani, a resident, who spoke with our correspondent said, “I have lost all my property and goods. I don’t have anything again, except the cloth I am wearing.”
Kehinde Oriola, 37,  who works with the popular DMT  mobile toilet, was one of those who joined in the local effort to put out the fire.
