TWENTY FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT A NEWBORN BABY
1. All newborn babies have a pug nose. The  bridge of the nose  isn’t there at birth – it grows later – so babies  have a small `button’ nose.
2. Nearly all babies are born with blue or  blue-grey eyes.  Permanent eye colouration develops during  the following  months.
3. Newborn babies may cry a lot but they  don’t produce any tears. There is moisture to lubricate and clean the eyes but proper tears don’t start to appear until the baby is between three and twelve weeks of age.
4. Any hair that is on your newborn baby’s head will soon fall out – to be replaced by permanent hair (which may be of an entirely different colour) at about six months.
5. All newborn babies – even black ones – have a ruddy complexion . This is because their blood contains a high number of red blood cells.
6. Four out of ten babies are born with at least one birthmark.
7. The commonest day of the week for babies to be born is Tuesday. Fewer babies are born on Saturday or Sunday than on any other day of the week (though this may simply be because doctors and midwives don’t like working weekends).
8. Babies have a strongly developed sense of smell. By the time he is one week old a baby can identify his mother by her smell.
9. Newborn babies are genetically programmed to respond to human voices – especially female voices. Babies learn to distinguish between different sounds very quickly.
10. Few babies have much of a sense of taste – though most prefer sweet tasting liquids.
11. Babies have very poor eyesight. Their eyes are focused on a spot about eight inches away – so you need to get really close if your baby is to see you clearly. Babies prefer looking at curved lines rather than straight lines.
12. Contrary to the old wives’ tale, babies are not colour blind . They prefer strong primary colours – particularly red and blue.
13. The heart of a newborn baby beats between 130 and 160 times a minute (about twice that of a normal adult).
14. Babies breathe much faster than adults – 30 to 50 times a minute compared to an adult’s 15 to 20 times a minute.
15. Babies often sneeze and snort in their  sleep to clear their nasal passages . Only later on can babies
breathe through their mouth if their nose is blocked. To minimise the problem keep the air in the home as clear and as smoke and  dust free as possible.
16. Although babies get some immunity – and  protection from infection – from their mothers, they are still very vulnerable to colds. Keep anyone with a cold away from your baby.
17. Babies have very small stomachs. An 8lb baby can get 3 ounces of milk into its stomach. It is the small size of its stomach that may explain why many babies will occasionally vomit. (But always get medical advice if a baby vomits.) Because they have small stomachs – the average stomach in the
average baby is no bigger than the size of  his fist! – babies need small feeds regularly (every three or four hours) rather than large feeds occasionally.
18. Nearly every newborn baby gets wind – and colic – that lasts for the first three months of its life.
19. Newborn babies spend between 15 and
20 hours a day sleeping – in bouts of sleep lasting 20 minutes to 5 hours.
20. In the first year of his life your baby will triple his weight, increase his length by 50%, double the size of his brain and create every nerve cell he will ever have.
21. Babies respond well to touch – which stimulates the production of growth- promoting hormones and helps the body become more responsive to these hormones.
In one survey it was shown that premature  babies who were touched regularly showed  47% more weight gain.
22. Babies are often nervous – even fearful – of new foods. To enable your baby to overcome his fears allow him to play with the food a little before eating it. You may be able to encourage a baby to try a new food by putting a small amount of food on his index finger and then gently guiding his index finger into his mouth.
23. If a baby suddenly starts to refuse a once favourite food it probably means that he is bored with it and would appreciate a little variation in his diet.
24. Teething can start when your baby is just three months old.
25. Babies sometimes need background noise to help them get to sleep (the womb is not the quietest place in the world). Some sounds that are known to relax and soothe babies include: a recording of their mother’s heartbeat; the sound of a clock ticking; a recording of a stream, waterfall or sea; a vacuum cleaner; air bubbling through a fish tank; running water from a tap.

5  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Naija Super Fraudster Wanted In America By FBI Over $770,000 Internet Love Scam on: 2-09-2013 01:13 PM

Olaniyi Victor Makinde the internet fraudster, who is top on the wanted list of the United States of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI has been arrested in Akure, the Ondo state capital by Nigeria’s anti-graft police, EFCC.
A source in FBI had hinted iReports-ng that Makinde who is also known as Olaniyi Jones and Andrea Bradley was wanted by the San Francisco Division of the FBI. According to the source, the US government viewed the activities of Makinde seriously and as such had to send three FBI agents including a supervisory special agent and two special agents, to Nigeria last quarter to meet with their Nigerian counterparts over the arrest of the fraudster. The fraudster was eventually arrested on September 6 last year.

iReports-ng learnt that the FBI agents were also joined by another official of the US consulate Lagos to obtain statements from Makinde when he was eventually arrested by EFCC operatives ahead of their request for his extradition to the US to face trial with some of his American accomplices in the serial fraud. The Nigerian authorities were said to have reached an agreement with the FBI agents to prosecute Makinde in Nigeria before considering handing him over to the US government. He was said to have been arraigned before a high court judge in Akure on November 26 last year over a $620,225.04 fraud and later remanded at a prison custody in the state capital.

It was however drama galore on Tuesday, January 11, when the 26-year old internet fraudster already in custody at the Olokuta medium prison, Akure , was docked again by EFCC, over a fresh $150,000 scam. The fraudster, Olaniyi Victor Makinde, a fresh graduate of the University of Ado Ekiti , was docked at an Akure High Court presided by Justice A.O Adebusuyi on a 14 count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretense and stealing. In his first arraignment before Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi of the same Court, nine count charges were preferred against him also bordering on stealing and obtaining money by false pretence. He allegedly obtained a total of $620,225.04 from two Americans: Marilou Sibbaluca and John Massoni in a marriage scam. However, the accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against him. Trouble started for Makinde when investigations revealed that he had been defrauding several foreigners, especially Americans in marriage scam and related offences, through the internet. He was also accused of masterminding serious hacking practices against an American online pay roll services company, Intuit, in California .

When the latest 14 count charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty to them. The defence counsel, Mr. A.A. Adetunji, thereafter made an oral application for bail which was successful. The judge granted the accused bail in the sum of N20million with two sureties in like sum who must swear to an affidavit of means of livelihood and with landed property in Akure. He also granted the prosecution’s prayer for the accelerated hearing of the case. The Judge added that during the trial he would not entertain any frivolous application meant to delay the trial and he threatened to revoke the bail granted the accused if there was any delay. He therefore adjourned the case to February 21 -25 for trial. The accused person has not been granted bail on the initial charges preferred against him. Justice Adebusuyi reserved ruling on the bail application till January 18

Makinde finished with second class honours in Economics from UNAD. He started his 419 heist early 2009 while he was still an undergraduate. He and other members of his gang who are now at large went to a dating site on the internet and started chatting with some American ladies and men who fell prey to their 419 scheme. Depending on the sex of his victim, Makinde sometimes presented himself as an American woman looking for a husband and to make assurance doubly sure, he would download a beautiful picture of an American lady from the internet and sent it to the victim as his picture. If the victim is a woman he would do the exact opposite. This way, Makinde had been fleecing his victims until the game was up for him.

Biography of T.B. Joshua, how he started
and how he came to this very point he is now.
This means that if the weak come to Him, He
would help their weakness just as He would
help the strong. God knows we are weak –
that is why He chooses grace. If God had
chosen works rather than grace, man would
have the autonomy to choose whom to help
with his works and how to do His works.
The battle would be for the strongest leaving
no room for people like me ( T.B. Joshua).
The race would be for the swiftest leaving no
room for people like me (T.B. Joshua).”
Isaiah 6:8 – “Then I heard the voice of
the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And
who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am
I. Send me!”
T.B. Joshua is just one of those who have
submitted to the will of God. He
acknowledges that if God had chosen works
rather than grace, no one would merit His
mercy.
In a sermon titled, “By His Grace”, he
explained:“Wisdom in the practical sense of
ability and skill cannot guarantee success in
life. It is the goodness of our cause that
interests God more than physical and mental
disposition. This explains why the weak
people like me who are without great
strength, a smooth tongue, fast legs or high
learning should ever remain grateful to God”.
Right from the outset of his incredible
journey, the hand of God has been clearly
evident in the life of Prophet T.B. Joshua. He
was born on June 12th, 1963 in the small
village of Arigidi in Akoko, Ondo State,
Nigeria. The pregnancy period of his mother
was by no means ordinary, as the baby
remained in her womb for 15 months before
he was born. Significantly, almost a hundred
years prior to his birth, it had been
prophesied that a young man would emerge
from the poor Oosin quarters and that God
would use him mightily. Another remarkable
event occurred when he was three days old,
as a large boulder crashed through the roof
of his house, missing the baby by mere inches.
This incident led to his mother naming him,
‘Temitope’, meaning, ‘What You (God) have
done for me is worthy of thanks’.

11  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Obasanjo Was A Troublesome Student - NOUN Vice Chancellor on: 31-07-2013 08:55 AM
The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, on Monday gave a glimpse into former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s time as a student of the university, saying that he was very troublesome.
Prof. Tenebe, who commended Chief Obasanjo for giving a new lease of life to NOUN in 2002 during his administration as president, recalled that as a student, he (Obasanjo) used to call his lecturers at midnight on academic matters, but noted that at the end, he did very well to pass his courses in Christian Religious Theology.

The Vice Chancellor made this known during an interactive session organised by the Kaduna State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

According to him, “President Obasanjo, when he became a student which he did by example, resuscitated the university. A good history of the university was that this university came into existence by an act of the National Assembly during the reign of President Shehu Shagari in 1982, unfortunately before the university could establish itself, the Military regime that took over suspended the act and that was the reason the university was in dormancy until when civilian rule under Obasanjo came on board and re cooperated the university in 2002 while in 2003, we started our academic programmes.

“When Obasanjo became a student of the institution, he thought that it was an easy thing to do. When he was given all the courses, he realised it wasn’t easy and so he had to defer his admission. He said I would not take part in this until I finished my tenure as President and so he never studied while he was the President until he completed his tenure, then he started the course. He did a Post Graduate Diploma in Christian Theology. He was a very troublesome student because he will not start calling until 12 mid night and keep you online until about 2.00a.m.

“Every time he gives us trouble, we pray that he graduates of which he did and his certificate was valid. In the course of his study, Obasanjo said he wanted to sit among the students” and quoted the former president as saying, “I want to do the same thing others are doing.”

On if the examiners were not under any form of pressure while marking the former President’s script, Prof. Tenebe remarked:

“Obasanjo was a very brilliant student and I can tell you there were lots of controversies when his papers were being marked. I won’t disclose the secret of how our papers are marked but it is marked from Port Harcourt to Lagos, Kano, Maiduguri and the markers will never know whose paper they are marking. So the old man is intelligent, his certificate is valid and was done according rules and regulations of the Nigerian University Commission (NUC).”

On accreditation of courses in the university, NOUN VC said they had subjected 31 of their programmes to accreditation and had 30 of them, while the one that was denied accreditation was getting ready for the accreditation as NUC had gone through their book and certified that their Nursing programme was up to standard.

“On that note, they’ve allowed us to graduate students and students of nursing also participated in our convocation. They graduated and were given our certificate. So if anybody is holding the certificate of NOUN as a graduate of Nursing, any employer can confirm that from the NUC.

“Talking about school of Law, it is one of the youngest schools in NOUN and we are yet to graduate our students”, he said.

“Some of our students are now getting to the final year, and like I told you earlier we have gone through the NUC accreditation and they have passed us. Now we are preparing for the Legal Council and Education and we are going to do that in conjunction with the NUC. And that I will continue to say that our law students are equal to the task, they can compete with any law students from any university in the world not only Nigeria.”

“ I can assure you that by the time we will present our curriculum to the Legal Council and Education, I am confident that we are going to pass. As I speak to you there is what is called National Competition that all universities that have faculty of law compete every year. NOUN is currently the champion. I told you I have five VCs of other universities among my law students and an experienced Monarch,” he said.

14  Forum / Relationships & Romance / 5 Ways A Woman Can Kill A Guy's Feelings - Dating Tips on: 27-07-2013 07:19 AM
Men are very sensitive creatures that are way too cautious of their FEELINGS and there are certainly many ways women destroys these feelings without even knowing they're doing so. But a few are too obvious to ignore.

1: Fear Of Other People's View

For the fear of what others think, in a public place, any time your guy tries to put his arms around you, you slip out. When he goes in for a kiss you give him the cheek. Stop worrying about what everyone else is thinking! You just rejected your guy for the approval of people you’ll never see again.

2: Not Being Confident With Yourself

When your man try to compliment you maybe on your look, you pay him back with ten reasons why it’s not true, or a list of things that are wrong with you. I guarantee you this is very annoying to guys and it kills a man's emotion towards a woman as wild fire. A "thank you" wouldn't harm you in any way.

3: Scheduling Time For Affection

Guess what: affection isn't meant to be scheduled! So what if you were in the middle of work thing in your computer when he came up behind you to hug you? You can close the laptop for five minutes to engage in some sweetness. If you always brush him off and make him feel like a nuisance for giving you affection, he’ll stop and that's BAD for BUSINESS.

4: Keeping Things From Him

Your guy finding out something about you, from a co-worker, your mom, friends etc., something you would ordinarily want him to care about but then you feel letting him know would be a burden then you refused to tell him. Wow...this thinking is way too depressing than you avoiding to burden him. Regardless of the situation the one man that you care about should know was-up with you at anytime before others.

5: Hiding Your Own Feelings When Hurt

If he says something that hurts you, and you know it’s not intentional, you lecture yourself in your own head, rather than expressing your true feelings about it. A guy always know when his girl is silently sulking, and when you keep quiet, or turn over in bed, or go for a walk when you’re obviously hurting, he reads this as you just being a very private person and/or don’t believe he has the tools to help you feel better. This attitude kills a man's feelings towards a woman very quickly

15  Forum / Sports / David Moyes Set To be Announced as Manchester United's New Manager on: 8-05-2013 05:32 PM
David Moyes will be announced as Manchester United's new manager within the next 24 hours as the Premier League champions aim to move quickly to appoint Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Old Trafford.
The announcement of Ferguson's retirement has prompted a frenzy of money being placed on the Everton manager to succeed the 71 year-old.
And Telegraph Sport understands that Moyes, whose contract at Goodison Park expires at the end of the season, has already been identified as Ferguson's successor and will be confirmed before United's next game, on Sunday, against Swansea.
Despite long-term speculation linking Jose Mourinho with the manager's job at Old Trafford in the event of Ferguson's retirement, the former Chelsea manager lacks support among the higher echelons of the United hierarchy.
Moyes's record at Everton since arriving from Preston North End in March 2002 lacks a trophy, or experience of Champions League football beyond the qualifying rounds, but the Scot's readiness to build teams and promote youth is understood to be central to United's decision to recruit the 50 year-old

16  Forum / Sports / Official: Sir Alex Ferguson to retire as Manchester United manager on: 8-05-2013 05:02 PM
Sir Alex Ferguson of manchester United Fc will retire at the end of the season, the club  have confirmed in a statement.

Manchester United have confirmed that Sir Alex Ferguson will step down as the club’s manager at the end of the season after 26 years in charge at Old Trafford.

The 71-year-old is the most successful manager in the history of English football, having won 38 trophies - including 13 Premier League titles - since taking over from Ron Atkinson in November 1986.

Ferguson will say his goodbyes to the Old Trafford crowd after Sunday’s home clash against Swansea before taking on a role as an ambassador on the United board of directors.
“To the fans, thank you. The support you have provided over the years has been truly humbling. It has been an honour and an enormous privilege to have had the opportunity to lead your club and I have treasured my time as manager of Manchester United.”

Ferguson scheduled a meeting to break the news to staff at the club’s Carrington training ground at 9.30am and will hold an interview with United’s in-house television station, MUTV, at 10.30am.

Everton manager David Moyes has been installed as the bookmakers’ favourite to succeed the Scot while Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is also among the favourites to take over at Old Trafford.

The announcement of Ferguson’s decision to retire came after intense speculation following a golf match between United players and coaches at Dunham Massey on Tuesday.

Ferguson has long been planning for his succession and has consistently cited his health as the decisive factor in the timing of his retirement. He had a pacemaker fitted in 2004 and United confirmed last week that he would undergo hip surgery in August.

Wizkid has already started building his own StarBoy Entertainment dynasty with the signing of fast-rising producer, Maleek Berry, who’s responsible for a couple of Wiz’s recent hits “Lagos 2 Soweto” and “The Matter”.

Maleek also produced “Carolina” by Sauce Kid & Davido, “My Way” by Wande Coal and a couple of tracks on Davido’s O.B.O album.
In very related news, Wizkid will be releasing his 2nd and LAST album under his parent record label EME on the 12 of June, 2013. The album is still currently untitled but I’m sure that will change in the coming weeks.
One of unreleased the tracks titled “Jaiye Jaiye” features Legendary Afrobeat musician, Femi Kuti. The mixtape follows afterwards.
