2  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Wonders Shall Never End !!Doctor mistakenly performed abortion on wrong woman on: 24-09-2019 12:03 PM
Police have launched an investigation in South Korea after a doctor performed an abortion by mistake. On August 7, a pregnant  patient with a 6-week-old foetus had gone to a clinic in district of  Gangseo, in the country’s capital Seoul, according to the Gangseo  police. At the clinic, a mix-up in medical charts and failure to check  her identity led to the mistaken abortion. The doctor and nurse in charge are under investigation, and the case  will soon be sent to the prosecutor’s office, police told CNN. “The doctor and nurse have acknowledged their fault,” a police official  said. They are now being accused of negligence resulting in bodily harm.

According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, the patient was supposed  to receive a nutritional shot at the clinic. The nurse had allegedly injected her with anaesthesia without confirming  her identity, and the doctor had performed the abortion without  checking her identity either, Yonhap reported. The patient had been  unaware of the procedure, according to CNN report. The police announced  the investigation on Monday, Yonhap said. South Korea moved to legalise abortion in April this year, with the  country’s constitutional court ruling that lawmakers must revise  existing laws by December 31, 2020, the CNN report noted. However, under existing laws, the practice remains illegal and is  technically punishable by up to a year in prison. Exceptions are granted  in cases where the parents have hereditary diseases, the pregnancy is  due to rape or incest, or the foetus is threatening the life of the  mother.

3  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Sad news Man dies during underwater proposal to girlfriend on: 21-09-2019 09:23 PM
An American man identified as Steven Weber Jr died during an underwater proposal which went wrong this week in Tanzania.

Steven Weber Jr. of Baton Rouge in Louisiana who proposed to his girlfriend, Kenesha during their trip to Tanzania this week never got to hear her say “YES” as he couldn’t hold his breath long enough to list all the things he loved about her.

Antoine took to Facebook on Friday September 20, to confirm the death of her boyfriend in a touching tribute where she shared their final moments together.

She wrote “There are no words adequate enough to honor the beautiful soul that is Steven Weber, Jr. You were a bright light to everyone you encountered. You never met a stranger, and you brought so much joy to so many people. You were kind, compassionate, you regularly made me cry with laughter, and you showered me with a love like none I’d ever experienced.

You never emerged from those depths, so you never got to hear my answer, “Yes! Yes! A million times, yes, I will marry you!!” We never got to embrace and celebrate the beginning of the rest of our lives together, as the best day of our lives turned into the worst, in the cruelest twist of fate imaginable. I will try to take solace in the fact that we enjoyed the most amazing bucket list experiences these past few days, and that we both were so happy and absolutely giddy with excitement in our final moments together.

Just a couple days before you died, you said to me, “I’ve seen a few cancer patients on this trip, and it dawned on me that this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that people want to experience before they die. And here we are in the prime of our lives doing this. We are so blessed.”

4  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 70% of Nigerian prison inmates are illegally detained - New report on: 21-09-2019 11:16 AM
Katume Mohammed, the Kano State programme Officer of Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) has said about 70 percent of prison inmates in Nigeria have not been proven guilty by the court as prescribed by law.

She spoke at a media capacity building seminar organized by the NGO in Kano to train crime reporters on various human rights dimensions in the criminal justice system in the country. She also criticized prison congestion in the country, saying the majority of the victims of illegal detention are petty offenders who could have been made to render community service commensurate to their offences.

According to her, the imprisonment option for petty offences is tantamount to criminalizing poverty and therefore appealed to criminal justice agencies to work closely with other stakeholders to explore other alternative punitive measures and make less use of imprisonment.

“We want to see that government decriminalizes petty offences by not taking the offenders to prison, there should be an alternative, something that as soon as these offenders are caught in violation of the law they should be asked to do, either community service like cleaning gutters, roads or any similar activity that will serve as a punishment for the offence.

“Detaining them has a cost implication for the government because when they are detained they must be fed, if they are sick the government has to take care of them and all these contribute a lot to the cost of governance,” she said.

Governor Yahaya Bello has picked Edward Onoja as his running mate for the November 16 governorship election, months after having a back-and-forth public squabble with his Deputy, Simon Achuba.

The Kogi State Governor reportedly submitted Onoja’s name to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during his trip to Abuja last week.

“The chief of staff is the running mate of His Excellency in the forthcoming election. An official announcement would be made soon,” the governor’s aide told The Cable.

“Mr Onoja’s name was submitted to the national working committee of the party when His Excellency visited the party headquarters on Thursday.”

49-year-old Onoja was Yahaya Bello's Chief of Staff before being appointed his running mate ahead of the Governorship election. It was further learnt that the relationship between Bello and Onoja who sought the ticket of the former All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) for a house of assembly seat in 2011, predates his emergence as Kogi State's Governor in 2019.

The sudden appearance of a snake at the chambers disrupted their plenary leaving lawmakers scampering for safety.Reports had it that a  snake dropped and fell close to where the maze was placed in the  Hallowed chamber on Wednesday while the members were preparing for the  plenary. Workers at the assembly reportedly killed the snake. However, at the plenary, the ceiling again caved in and dropped close to  the seat occupied by the speaker of the assembly, Hon Bamidele  Oloyelogun. Vanguard noticed that the ceiling of where the parliamentary staff seat  during session and the gallery have equally caved in. Water also drops inside the chambers whenever it rains. The members took to their heels as the ceiling caved scampering for  safety.Hon Oloyelogun was  repeatedly helped from his seat by the members. Speaking with newsmen, the chairman House committee on information,  Gbenga Omole confirmed that the house had adjourned indefinitely  following the deplorable condition of the hallowed chamber. Omole said that the house was about to seat on Wednesday when a snake  dropped from the termite infested ceiling at the center of the chamber. ” Again, we were at the plenary when the ceiling caved in beside the  speaker. Omole said “When we were about to enter into plenary, a big snake just  ran out of the chamber which disrupted our sitting and we had to  hurriedly leave the chamber “We are about to seat again today when a ceiling caved in directly where  Mr. Speaker was sitting, the whole house was agitated and when we look  around we saw the damage the termite had done to most of the woodwork in  the ceiling. “At that point, we had to call ourselves and adjourned the sitting. That  chamber is no longer safe for legislative business and because of that,  we decided to adjourn indefinitely. The house will be going on an  indefinite recess. “We need to intimate the state governor Rotimi Akeredolu about this  development and we have decided to meet him on this. “The Governor is aware of the infrastructural decay here because of the  things here are outdated and not too good for legislative business. “As at now, the House has not been given the autonomy we are agitating  for, because if it has happened, we don’t need to consult the governor.  You know how things are being run presently, every arm of government  need to look up to the executive to get things done. ” But pending the approval of the legislative autonomy, we have to look  towards the executive where the governor is in charge and we will have  to appeal to him to come to our aid because we have a lot of business to  do and there is a lot of bills to be treated. “When I said we are going on recess, we will continue to come to our  offices but sitting down in that chamber is what is not going to happen. “We have written to Mr Governor for him to know what is happening here Omole, however, said “We eventually killed the snake but there are a lot  of reptiles hibernating in the roof of the chamber, and whenever it  rains, the whole chamber is flooded.

My husband’s problem is  that he can’t stop himself staring at other women. That is how he was  when we met and foolishly, I thought marriage would calm him down but it  hasn’t after six years of marriage. His argument is that  every man looks at other women, no matter how happily married he is, and  that he is being open. But I hate hearing that another woman has great  legs or fantastic boobs. My husband knows I am  upset by his attitude and even when he tries to stop commenting, I still  catch him turning around mid-conservation to size up another woman’s  backside. At one point, I decided to play him at his own games by making  comments about other men’s looks, but it didn’t bother him. He says he can’t understand why his behaviour makes me feel insecure,  that he’s always telling me how great I look and says he’d never have  married me if he wanted someone else. He believes he has the right to  admire other women. When I make a fuss, he says I have a problem with my  confidence and should get help.

I have been married to  my husband for ten years now. He is the Managing Director where he  works. I have got four children and presently carrying a pregnancy. I  work in a private company as a as a Secretary. We are living in a three  bedroom bungalow with three of his relations. I struggle to get my all  our needs  from my meagre salary because he is saving to travel abroad  for further studies. The plan is that he will travel then we will all  join him. Since this will require a lot of money, we have been managing  on very tight budget. Our home, I mean, parlour, rooms and kitchen are places I cannot invite  my friends to because everything in them is outdated and broken down as  we live from hand to mouth. For the sincere love, affection and trust I  had for him, I was ready to bear everything as a sacrifice for our  future. I thought it was really because of this savings that he could  not take care of me, the children, the house and even his foolish wicked  self.

16  Forum / Relationships & Romance / How can I handle my friend’s affair with my wife? on: 25-07-2019 12:36 PM
My childhood friend got appointed into a very juicy post and since then, my fortunes have changed. He’s thrown a lot of contracts my way and we’ve been able to complete our own house and change cars. He has also made my wife the official caterer of the establishment he works with and she too has become financially secure in her own rights. But not as secure as the way she’s spending money. She buys any aso-ebi, no matter how expensive and the array of her jewels is mind-boggling.Lately, her catering contract has been stretched to providing afternoon lunch for the directors and I’ve heard talks that my friend sleeps with my wife regularly and nobody in his office dares complain about her catering no matter how shoddy it is.

I tried to stop her working but my own contracts not only stopped, I found it difficult to collect money for the ones I’d already completed. So I lifted my ban, and of course, contracts started coming in again. I feel humiliated that things have to be this way. The kids are now used to fancy things and I never want to go back to the days where I had to scrimp and save. I’ve been advised to look the other way as things like that happen all the time. But I don’t love my wife any more even though I have this feeling that if I sent her packing, I, along with our three children, would be the ones to suffer. We’ve been married 19 years.
