“My husband is a pathological liar, it was ten years after our marriage that I knew the woman he called his cousin and her children were his wife and children. My husband lied that he was going to Abuja for a training programme. I was surprised when I was told that he now lives in Mushin in a police woman’s house,” embattled housewife, Rashidat Adeniyi, told an Agege-Orile, Lagos customary court.
The husband, Toyin Adeniyi, 50, denied the allegations. Toyin, an engineer, said, “Because I am a handsome man, ladies fall for me, so it can be one of the strategies to cause quarrels between us that she heard those lies. “I left the house because I owed a year rent and I told my wife that I would come for her and the children when I am back on my feet,” he said. Rashidat pleaded with the court to dissolve her 19-year-old marriage over two years desertion by her husband. The 33-year-old computer analyst, who lives at 33, Alaramimo Street, Orile-Agege, told the court that her husband left the house two years ago for a police woman’s house. She told the court that it was after ten years of marriage that she knew that her husband had a wife and children before she married him. The mother of three asked the court to dissolve the marriage and grant her the custody of the children. Meanwhile, the husband said he still loved his wife, and not in support of the dissolution. “Since I am the busy type, anytime I left the house, my wife always suspected me. I haven’t told anyone that I am a widower,” he stated. Toyin explained that the police woman the wife was referring to was just a friend. The court President, Mr Joseph Adewusi, told the couple to maintain the peace and adjourned the case to July 22 for judgment.

Leader of the dreaded Islamist militant group Boko Haram denied that it entered into a ceasefire agreement with the federal government or its agents. Boko Haram commander also endorsed the heartless attack on a school in Yobe state last week, saying they are planning more attacks to be carried out soon... According to Bloomberg, the commander Abubakar Shekau, in a video message sent to reporters denied claims by the Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, that a ceasefire was reached on July 8 after talks with the group’s deputy leader, Mohammed Marwan. “Let me assure you that we will not enter into any truce with these infidels,” Shekau said. “We will not enter into any truce with the Nigerian government.” Boko Haram, whose name means “western education is a sin” in the Hausa language, has killed thousands of people in gun and bomb attacks since 2009 in the mainly Muslim North and Abuja in campaign to establish an Islamic state Nigeria, a country whose about 160 million people are split between Christians, predominant in the south, and Muslims, mostly in the north. Reacting to the attack on the secondary school, Shekau said: “We believe in the massacre inflicted on the secondary school in Mamudo and Damaturu and other schools; we earlier warned that we are going to burn all schools. According to her, “It was a union of unending battle.” The couple quarreled over trivial issues until she accidentally ended her husband’s life, thereby making herself a widow. Narrating her trauma, she revealed to Saturday Vanguard that she could not explain what came upon her that fateful day. “People refused to come to our aid as they thought it was just one of the usual quarrels we used to have. They thought it was the normal prelude to lovemaking between couples. So, they didn’t bother to intervene.” The widow remorsefully said that “it was like that until that fateful day; after I had had my baby and my husband claimed he wasn’t buoyant enough to buy baby food for the new baby. That degenerated into another fight. “Although my husband could not be called a man of means, I didn’t believe he hadn’t the money I asked for to buy the baby’s food. We had quarreled over that and he had beaten me up like he was wont to severally. It was painful, and I decided to avenge the beating. So, I picked up a stone to hit him but it accidentally hit him on the head.
