1  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / GIDIGBO:Rivers’ Crisis: Amaechi, PDP Chairman Draw Battle Line on: 9-08-2013 10:46 PM
The Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Felix Obuah, on Friday declared that the supremacy of the party remains and can never be compromised, while Governor Rotimi Amaechi questioned his stability and mental wellness.

Obuah, while speaking in Port Harcourt, maintained that only Rivers people could settle their internal problems, wondering why the governor hastily rebuffed his peace effort, as if he (Amaechi) was not interested in making peace with the party and people of the state.

The PDP chairman said the governor and his supporters must face the consequences of their actions.

Amaechi, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), however, described the Rivers PDP chairman’s peace attempt as most disrespectful, ridiculous and laughable.

The governor made the remarks through his Chief Press Secretary, David Iyofor, who asked Obuah to show some respect for the office of the state governor.

The chairman spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Jerry Needam.

I Can Marry A WheelBarrow Pusher - Benita Nzeribe

'If I have to say the truth, marriage is not all about money or the little things of life. We should marry for real love. That is why I see myself as being able to marry whoever I am in love with, no matter his status in life. That is to say, even if the guy is a wheelbarrow pusher, I would marry him so long as my heart is with him.”

3  Forum / The Buzz Central / Woman Goes Mad After Seeing Her Baby Killed by Doctors on: 9-08-2013 10:26 PM
A woman in central China’s Hunan Province slid into madness after being forced into labor, at seven months of pregnancy, so that her baby could be killed. Her husband, Wu Yongyuan, has been seeking redress and compensation, to little effect.

Woman Goes Mad After Seeing Her Baby Killed by Doctors

“She is afraid of going out and seeing strangers. She often bites me. She is also afraid of seeing doctors and needles,” Wu said.

The sight that triggered his wife’s descent was a doctor dropping her just-born baby into a plastic bag and paying a cleaning lady 80 yuan ($13) to bury it.

“The baby was still breathing and moving when the doctor put him into a plastic bag,” Wu said.

Later, his wife started having nightmares. She felt guilty for not having protected her child. She also became ill-tempered and started showing signs of mental disorder.

His wife was officially diagnosed with schizophrenia on June 14, but Wu has been unable to afford psychiatric treatment. He demanded compensation from local authorities and the provincial family planning bureau, but none have seen fit to respond.

Wu and his wife Gong Qifeng are residents of Anping Town, Lianyuan City in Hunan. In a telephone interview with Epoch Times, Wu said that family planning officials took his wife from their home.

He went to the local family planning office and was told that his wife must undergo induced labor, despite Wu’s pleas against it.

Two hours later, a family planning official called to tell him that his wife was given a shot. When Wu rushed to the hospital, his wife said four people had held her down while a doctor gave her an injection in the belly. “She was very scared. But she could not fight back. She just cried loudly,” Wu said.

“‘My husband is disabled. Don’t induce labor on me,’ she said, but they ignored her plea,” Wu added.

After lying in excruciating pain for 35 hours, Gong gave birth to a baby boy. Gong told Wu to keep the baby, but the doctor stopped him and said the injection was lethal and the baby would die soon.

A "shark whisperer" scuba guide in Key Largo loves to kiss nurse sharks until one bites his pursed lips.

Expert Jeff Kurr commented the accident: "A lot of attacks are silly, people doing dumb things. You just have to have a lot of respect for the animal. They have a lot of power. They're great predators."

For one week each year, the Discovery channel devotes its entire network to exploring humans' long-standing fascination with sharks.

The video below captured the accident.

5  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / FINALLY:Breakthrough In Malaria Vaccine Reported on: 9-08-2013 04:59 PM
An experimental malaria vaccine called PfSPZ is showing promise after it was found to have blocked the disease in early clinical trials, according to a new study published by Science magazine on Thursday.Breakthrough In Malaria Vaccine Reported

Researchers are calling the vaccine a breakthrough while also cautioning that PfSPZ isn't ready for prime time just yet.

The vaccine, which is made using a weakened form of the disease, was administered in varying doses to a group of more than three dozen volunteers.

Six people, each of whom were given a full five doses of the vaccine, were unable to contract malaria when exposed to the disease, the study says.

This is the first time any vaccine has achieved 100% effectiveness in any trial, researchers report.

Nine others were given four doses of PfSPZ, three of whom became infected in the trial.

Of another 12 who took part in the trial but weren't given the vaccine, 11 contracted malaria, the study says.

The trial — which included testing handled by the National Institutes of Health, the US Army, and the US Navy — is a first step in figuring out just how safe and effective the vaccine might be.

For one thing, PfSPZ needs to be tested on a greater number of people, and researchers aren't sure as of yet how long the vaccine will be effective for.

The vaccine is also only currently available by way of intravenous injection (IV), which makes it more difficult to get to people than a shot or a pill.

Huge potential, But  Questions Remain

Still, Stephen Hoffman, the CEO of the biotech company that developed PfSPZ, is hopeful.

"We have demonstrated for the first time in the history of malaria that one can completely protect individuals against malaria infected mosquitos," he told NPR.

According to CNN, Malaria infects more than 200 million people each year, and it claimed the lives of 660,000 in 2010.

The disease is particularly rampant in developing nations. From here, Hoffman's company, Sanaria, will test out the vaccine in larger trials in Tanzania and other parts of Africa, NPR said.

If all goes well, the earliest PfSPZ could make it to market would be late 2017 or early 2018, Hoffman said.

8  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / WEIRD JAYE PASTOR:Pastor Fired For Attending Rick Ross Concert on: 9-08-2013 03:12 PM
He is the youngest pastor to be installed at 26 years old and is now the shortest term pastor in Mt. Salem’s 109 year history. On Saturday, Mt. Salem voted him out for attending a local Rick Ross concert.

With a vote of 11 to 3, the 14 deacons met at 11pm Saturday night to discuss and come to a conclusion that they did not need his services anymore. Rev. Wills arrived to the church the next day for Sunday morning worship service and notice his parking sign taken down and his name removed from the office door.

The deacons even asked another minister from the community to officiate the service that morning. “We cannot have our leader supporting people of this world who are tearing down the kingdom of God.” said Deacon Miles Langley.

According to Deacon Langley, this is not the first time Rev. Wills has attended a concert while pastoring Mt. Salem. 9 months ago the diaconate board met with Rev. Wills when word was given to them that many youth and young adults spotted the pastor at a Lil Wayne concert.

“We know that many saints will have mixed opinions from our actions, but this is not how we do things here at Mt. Salem. We cannot have a pastor praising the world one minute then praising the Lord the next. Period” said Deacon Langley

Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar says that she is thinking about turning down $1m to act in a bikini.

Abubakar was hosted on Channels TV’s ‘Sunrise’ as artiste of the week, and when asked what role she would willingly turn down for a $1 Million, the actress responded by saying "for the fact that I’m a responsible woman, and I love and respect my country, and of course my family, I would not take a role that has to do with baring it all….you know…nudity…"

She went ahead to say she will think about wearing a bikini in a movie role for that amount of money.

Kinda hard to believe, since it’s coming from an actress who got her big break in the early 2000s in a Nood scene and modeled almost Private as a young lady.

An Indonesian passenger plane has skidded off a runway into a field after crashing into a cow.Plane With 110 Passengers Aboard Crashed Into Cow

The Lion Air plane, with at least 110 passengers on board, hit the cow as it came into land at Jalaluddin airport on the island of Sulawesi.

No-one has been reported injured, but the cow was crushed to death under a plane wheel.

The pilot, Iwan Permadi, said that he could smell "burning meat".

He said he initially thought there were dogs in front of the plane, "but it turned out there were three cows wandering in the middle of the runway".

Transport ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan said that all the passengers had safely disembarked.

The airport was closed after the incident, affecting people's travel plans for the Eid holiday. It has now reopened.

Indonesia relies heavily on air travel to connect its more than 17,000 islands, but the country has one of Asia's worst air safety records.

Lion Air is one of Indonesia's biggest private carriers, and has been expanding rapidly in recent years.

In April this year, at least 22 people needed hospital treatment when a Lion Air plane on a domestic flight missed the runway at Bali's Denpasar airport and came down in the sea.

11  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Baby Born With 4 Limbs Successfully Operated in Adamawa on: 9-08-2013 02:50 PM
The two-months-old girl who was born with a rare congenital defect called “dipygus” (having small extra legs between the normal legs) has been successfully operated upon by doctors at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola.

The girl was born in Konkol community of Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa, where the residents think she is a spirit. The baby was subsequently moved to Yola, the Adamawa State capital for treatment.

Renowned paediatric surgeon, Professor Awwal Abubakar, who led the team of doctors that performed the surgery, described it as successful, saying "We are happy to report that the baby is doing well, but will require periodic monitoring as she grows."

Mr. Abubakar said the surgery, which lasted for about two hours, involved a team of doctors, surgeons, and nurses, and was considered an accomplishment by the hospital.

He advised Nigerians to report such birth defects to medical experts and not be unnecessarily superstitious.

"We need to actually sensitize our communities to accept that this problem will be tackled and those babies are going to live normal life. So there is no need to deny them access to good medical care," he said.

He commended the management of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, for bearing the cost of the surgery, with the hope that the gesture would be sustained.

The joyous father of the yet to be named baby, Mani Margi, praised Allah for saving the life of his first child.

“I am in short of words, praise be to lord, for saving the life of my only born baby. For the doctors and FMC, I have nothing to utter, but may Allah reward them abundantly," he said.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Aliyu Danburam, said that in a bid to assist the needy, the centre introduced a social welfare unit that has assisted several people.

The director, who spoke through the hospital’s spokesman, Adamu Dodo, said the hospital management took charge of the cost of the surgery.

"The Social welfare scheme in collaboration with other religious organizations has assisted dozens of such patients that are in critical condition. It was aimed at putting hope and smile on their faces, as you can see today," he said.

12  Forum / The Buzz Central / AGAIN... Fierce Fight Between Councilors And Delta Council Chairman, Secretary on: 8-08-2013 09:50 PM
The chairman of Aniocha North local government of Delta State, Sunday Chukwuedo, was yesterday mercilessly beaten up in a hotel by the transition committee www.gistdoctor.com has learnt. Also assaulted were the secretary, one Mr. Onwuka, as well as the council treasurer and the Head of Personnel Management (HPM), as they shared the monthly allocation.

Trouble, it was gathered, started when the councilors were tipped off that the chairman, secretary, treasurer and the acting female HPM were hiding in one of the rooms at Dove Hart Hotel at the Issele-Uku headquarters of the council allegedly sharing the monthly allocation without their participation.

A source disclosed to gistdoctor.com that , as soon as the angry councilors arrived at the hotel, they forcibly opened the door to the room where the illicit deal was allegedly taking place. The four council officials were seen seated dismantling the allocation and the visibly angry councilors gave them the beating. In the process, the Secretary received head injuries and was rushed to a nearby clinic by witnesses.

According to a member of the hotel staff, shortly after the beatings were suitably delivered, men of the Issele-Uku police station arrived at the scene and arrested the councilors along with the chairman, treasurer and the HPM. They were taken to the station and statements obtained from them.

To bring the matter under control, it took the intervention of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Ochei, who is still away in the United States of America on a training course, along with other prominent indigenes of the local government.

It was also learnt that there had been a 'cold war' between the chairman and some of the councilors who alleged that the chairman was not carrying them along in the scheme of things, especially in financial matters.

One of the angry councilors disclosed that the embattled Chukwuedo, who was allegedly planted as the transition committee council chairman by Ochei, has fraudulently introduced the concept of "built-in" salary, the proceeds of which he discreetly shares with the three council officials.

Explaining what is meant by "built-in" salary, the councilor described it as the fraudulent smuggling of fictitious names into the council's pay roll. In practice, as soon as the allocation arrives, the chairman and his cohorts would deduct the illegal salaries, running into millions of Naira and shared it. He alleged that the manipulation has been going on for several months.

The embattled chairman, however, denied the story, saying he was at the police station for a different issue.

14  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Double Wahala For Dead Body:Suicide Bomber Blows 29 People at Funeral on: 8-08-2013 07:50 PM
A suicide bomber killed at least 29 people and wounded 15 others, targeting the funeral of a Pakistani police officer assassinated earlier on Thursday, an official said.

The attack took place at the police headquarters in the troubled southwestern city of Quetta, Pakistan where officers gathered to pay their respects to a colleague who had been shot dead only hours before.

The suicide bomber struck before Muslim faithful in Pakistan are due to break their daily fast for the last time in the holy month of Ramadan, to be followed by the Eid al-Fitr holiday on Friday.

“At least eight police officers have been killed. It was a suicide attack,” said police officer Selim Shehwani, warning that the death toll could rise further.

He confirmed that Fayaz Sumbal, a deputy inspector general of police and one of the most senior officers in the city, was among those killed.

An AFP reporter saw five dead bodies in a hospital morgue.

Doctor Syed Sarwar Shah said the dead included four policemen and a son of the imam of the mosque at police headquarters.

Police officer Rahim Khan told AFP that another three senior officers had also been killed.

“We are collecting more details. We have declared an emergency,” he said.

Policeman Mohammad Hafiz spoke of his horror after the explosion.

“I was inside the mosque and we were lining up for the funeral prayers when a big blast took place. I came out and saw injured and dead bodies lying on the ground,” Hafiz told reporters.

“I have no words to explain what I’ve seen. It was horrible.”

The blast capped a bloody Ramadan in Pakistan, where at least 11 attacks have killed more than 90 people during the month.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Quetta is on the frontline of violence blamed on Islamist militants, sectarian killers targeting the Shiite Muslim minority and a separatist insurgency waged by Baluch rebels.
