2  Forum / The Buzz Central / Security Guard Arrested For Robbing His Boss on: 22-07-2013 10:09 AM

A security guard attached to a house at Wuse, Abuja, has been arrested by men of the FCT police command for allegedly conniving with a man (now at large) to steal two cars belonging to his master.
The vehicles allegedly stolen are Toyota Corolla with registration number RSH 60 AH and a Toyota Sienna car with registration number RBC 300 AL.
Deputy Superintendent Hyelhira Altine Daniel, the FCT Police spokesperson said the suspect and his accomplice planned to steal the cars when his master travels.
She said immediately the suspect’s master travelled, the suspects stole the two cars and one then called one of their friend at Minna, Niger state, to assist them in selling one of the stolen cars.
The police spokesperson said while this was going on, the owner of the house came and discovered that his cars were missing and reported to the police.
“Our men swooped into action, one of the cars was traced to Niger state and the security guard was arrested. The other one was dumped at Masaka,” she stated.
She added that  both cars have since been recovered and investigation is still ongoing.

3  Forum / The Buzz Central / It’s not true I dated a friend’s hubby – Lepa Shandy Reveals All on: 22-07-2013 10:01 AM

Shade Omoniyi is a Yoruba top actress who hit the limelight some years back. She has acted and produced so many movies and soaps. She is fondly known as Lepa Shandy because of the role she played in one of her movies. The screen diva is humble and down to earth but that did not prevent her from having one scandal or the other. It was said that her first marriage with a London-based dude crashed. In this interview, Shade refused to say anything about it even now that she says she is happily married.

A lot of people know you as Lepa Shandy, a top Yoruba actress, but who exactly are you?

I’m an actress, a wife, a mother and I’m very gentle. I’m very humble and down to earth. I’m just me. It is true that a lot of people know me as Lepa Shandy, meaning that I have the fame. Glory be to God but it is not as if I came in and got the name or fame immediately. I had been in the English speaking industry for some time before I came to Yoruba movie genre. I hit the limelight in the Yoruba movie industry which I got into in 1995. In 2002, I took a role as Lepa Shandy. You won’t believe it, I have done several movies after that but Lepa Shandy still remains the best for my fans.

Is he the fiancé that you are now married to?
No.
But you were married to Mr. Kazim, a London-based dude and your marriage with him reportedly crashed; what led to that?

I don’t want to talk about that. The only thing I can feel free to talk about is to counsel my fellow women whose marriages crashed and who feel it is the end of life. I want to tell them to believe in God and be focused. Whatever comes your way, take it as destiny. Let me cite an example, if you have a car crash, will you say you won’t drive the car because you had a crash? Or will you say you won’t enter a bus because of a crash? It is also the same thing about marriage. Once you have a misfortune somewhere in life, you forge ahead and look forward. What happened may be for you to reach your destiny. Whatever happened, take it that it was destined to be and pray to God to lead you through.

If I’m not in the country, fortunately for me he knows how to cook. He walks into the kitchen to do that himself.
You had a baby in your 40s, what is motherhood like?
Motherhood is very interesting. But that doesn’t mean that those that don’t have should cry foul or end their lives. If you don’t have a baby, just tell God and he would smile on you. Honestly, motherhood is very interesting.
What was that scandalous story about you that made you shed tears?

My most scandalous story did not make me cry but I was deeply hurt. Later, I developed a thick skin. What happened was that they wrote that I was dating the husband of my friend. That story wasn’t true. The lady was my good friend. I was supposed to be her chief bridesmaid but my Oga then wanted me to be fully on the ground. He said I had to be the hostess. That showed how close I was to the husband and wife. All of a sudden, I saw it on a soft sell that I was dating the man. The first thing I did when I saw the story was to call the lady to find out if she had read it. She said yes but that I shouldn’t mind them. I didn’t cry over that but honestly I was almost crying. It was when I hit stardom that some controversial stories were written about me. Honestly, it is not easy to ignore them. But with time, I started developing thick skin. I started telling myself that they were only selling their papers.
What is your motto? And do you have tattoos?
Simplicity is the watchword. Unfortunately, I don’t have. Would that add to my beauty? There are other things that can add to my beauty but not tattoo. I’m not saying that those that have that should lose their self confidence. It is their life but I personally don’t like it. Anything that I would do that I would wake up one day and say ‘I don’t want this anymore’ and would be difficult for me to remove or get rid of, I won’t do it.
Doesn’t your husband frown at what you wear, your skimpy styles and all that? And what fascinated you about him, his money?

No he doesn’t frown at what I wear. He too is trendy. He loves to see me look good.
Far from his money! Those that know me know that I don’t date because of money. What if there is no more money, what happens to the relationship? It is his simplicity and humility that fascinated me.
What did you study?
I studied Computer Science at the University of Lagos and worked in a bank for some time.

4  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / This Woman Was Raped By Her Friend but She's Going to Jail "He dragged me by my on: 22-07-2013 09:51 AM

"He dragged me by my purse in, so I thought, 'OK, I just need to calm the situation down. I will finish my bottle of water, I will sit here and then I will excuse myself and say I feel fine.'"

"I woke up with my clothes off, sleeping on my belly, and he was molesting me. I tried to get off, I tried to get him off, but he pushed me back down."

Norwegian interior designer Marte Deborah Dalelv has spoken out after being handed a 16-month prison sentence in Dubai -- after she went to police to report she had been raped by a colleague.

The 24-year-old was convicted and sentenced on charges of having unlawful sex, making a false statement and illegal consumption of alcohol.

Her story is dominating the headlines in Norway, and has raised serious questions over the way women who allege segxwal assault are treated in the United Arab Emirates.

Dalelv, who had been working at an interior design firm in Qatar since September 2011, told CNN on Saturday how a work trip to Dubai in March with three colleagues turned into a nightmare.

She said she had been out at a bar with her colleagues and friends, and asked a male colleague to walk her to her room when they returned at 3 a.m. to the hotel. She'd asked him to escort her because the hotel was large and confusing, and she didn't want to be wandering on her own, knowing she'd been drinking, she said.

When they reached a room, she realized it wasn't hers -- but the man then pulled her inside despite her vocal objections, according to Dalelv.

After someone knocked -- the hotel wake-up call -- she managed to get dressed and make it downstairs to the hotel reception, Dalelv said. "I called the police. That is what you do. We are trained on that from when we are very young," she said.
Some 10 or 12 male police officers arrived, but no female police officers were present, she said. Statements were taken from both Dalelv and the alleged rapist.
She was then taken to Bur Dubai police station, she said.

After again giving her version of events to officers, Dalelv said, "They asked me, 'Are you sure you called the police because you just didn't like it?' I said, 'Well of course I didn't like it.' That is when I knew, I don't think they are going to believe me at all."

Dalelv says she was taken for an intimate medical exam and tested for alcohol consumption. Her belongings were taken and she was kept in jail for four days, she said, with no explanation as to why.

Dubai police and UAE government officials have not responded to repeated CNN requests for comment.
Dalelv said she managed to call her parents on the third day to tell them she had been raped and ask them to contact the Norwegian Embassy. A day later, a representative from the Norwegian consulate came to the police station and she was released -- but her passport was not returned.

A piece of paper with Arabic text was handed to her, she said. An Arabic speaker told her it listed two charges against her: one for sex outside of marriage and the other for public consumption of alcohol. Both are violations of the law in the United Arab Emirates.

It was the first time she was made aware that she faced charges, Dalelv said.
She was allowed out on bail and has been staying since at the Norwegian Seaman's Center in Dubai.
Subsequently, she said her manager advised her to tell the police it was voluntary segxwal intercourse and likely the whole issue would just go away. She followed the advice and in one of the many hearings at the public prosecutor's office, she made a statement saying it was voluntary.
Dalelv was then charged with making a false statement.

"That was my biggest regret because it wasn't voluntary. I just thought it would all go away," she told CNN.
But a representative of Al Mana Interiors, who Dalelv worked for, told CNN that she was not advised by her manager to say the sex was consensual but rather by a police officer, who told her that in Arabic and it was translated into English by her manager.

Dalelv said a month after the rape, while forced to stay in Dubai as the case wound through the legal system, she was fired.

The representative, who declined to be publicly identified, said Dalelv and the Sudanese man she accused -- who is married with three children -- have both been terminated by Al Mana Interiors for "drinking alcohol at a staff conference that resulted in trouble with the police."

A statement released late Saturday by Al Mana Interiors spokesman Hani El Korek said the company was sympathetic to Dalelv "during this very difficult situation." It also said that company representatives were by her side through the initial investigation, spending "days at both the police station and the prosecutor's office to help win her release."

"Only when Ms. Dalelv declined to have positive and constructive discussions about her employment status, and ceased communication with her employer, was the company forced to end our relationship with her," the statement said.

"The decision had nothing to do with the rape allegation, and unfortunately neither Ms. Dalelv nor her attorneys have chosen to contact the company to discuss her employment status."

The company is owned by Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Mana, who made headlines earlier this year after it was revealed that he has secretly married singer Janet Jackson in 2012.
Dalelv was convicted Tuesday on all three charges and was sentenced to one year in jail for having unlawful sex, three months in jail for making a false statement and one month for illegal consumption of alcohol.

CNN could not immediately confirm what happened to the alleged perpetrator, who was charged with public intoxication and having sex outside of marriage.

Dalelv is scheduled to appear at the court on September 5 to begin the appeal proceedings. Dalelv, who is not allowed to leave the UAE pending the appeal, said her lawyers have instructed her to be prepared to go back into jail while they submit a request for bail while the appeal is ongoing.
As a rule, CNN does not identify victims of segxwal assault, but Dalelv went public with her story.

A Facebook page has been set up calling for Dalelv's release, as well as a petition urging the Norwegian government to take action on her behalf.

Her conviction may risk wider diplomatic repercussions.
Norwegian Foreign Affairs Minister Espen Barth Eide called his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahyan, on Friday night to protest Dalelv's sentencing, a statement from the Norwegian ministry said.

"I emphasized that we believe that the conviction is contrary to fundamental human rights, including conventions that the UAE have officially ratified," Eide is quoted as saying.
"Norway will continue to do what we can to support her in what is a very difficult situation. Our cooperation with the UAE is strong and good, but I conveyed to my colleague that we are worried that this difficult case may disturb our good relations if we do not reach a good solution in the near future."

Dalelv told CNN she received a call from Eide on Friday reiterating Norway's support.
While Dubai has a reputation as a cosmopolitan city that boasts Western influences, where visitors can drink at bars and restaurants and unmarried couples can share hotel rooms, the country adheres to Islamic laws and traditions.

The United Arab Emirates has been heavily criticized by rights groups, which say it condones segxwal violence against women. Human Rights Watch has called its record "shameful," saying it must change the way it handles such cases.

In December 2012, a British woman reported being raped by three men in Dubai. She was found guilty of drinking alcohol without a license and fined.

In January 2010, a British woman told authorities she was raped by an employee at a Dubai hotel. She was charged with public intoxication and having sex outside of marriage.

An Australian woman reported in 2008 that she was drugged and gang-raped. She was convicted of having sex outside marriage and drinking alcohol, and she was sentenced to 11 months in prison.

6  Forum / The Buzz Central / Woman Makes Husband Impotent with Love Charm So He Won't Sleep with Young Girls on: 22-07-2013 09:45 AM

Marriage Wahala!....the husband is now crying for his "thing" to be restored:

Police detectives in Asaba, Delta State have arrested a housewife, Mrs Ebere and a native doctor following charms administered by the woman to divert the attention of her husband from young ladies whom she believes are making her husband not to satisfy her anymore.
Unfortunately, the love charm was too powerful [and probably fake] hence it has left the man, a practicing medical doctor, impotent.

Police spokesman in the state, Mr. Famous Ajieh, confirmed that the suspects, who are cooling off their heels at present at the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID), were alleged to have connived to render the victim (the woman’s husband) impotent with love charms.

He said that the suspects – Mrs Ebere and the native doctor, identified as Ojokwu - upon interrogation had confessed to their acts, adding that the victim, a well known medical practitioner, had been having problems with his wife.

According to him, the woman had sought help from the native doctor around Ugbolu community near Asaba when the bubble burst.

She was said to have in a desperate mood consulted a friend who introduced her to the native doctor who charged her N250,000 and she made an advance payment of N150, 000.

What was supposed to be love charms to turn off the husband from other women, eventually backfired when the man's attempt to make love with the wife failed. He tried severally but to no avail.

7  Forum / Politics / TB Joshua Is Secretly Working For Jonathan's Ambition? on: 22-07-2013 09:41 AM

A source at the Presidency in Abuja said Prophet TB Joshua has so much control over President Goodluck Jonathan right now that whatever he requests is granted without delay because the president believes that the prophet holds the spiritual key to his electoral success in 2015.

The revelations are quite mind-blowing. Read the full gist below:

Sources have told Sahara Reporters that last week’s “judicial decision” which set Hamza Al-Mustapha free of murder charges is owed to President Goodluck Jonathan, who was following a “spiritual” fortune-telling that would enable him to win the 2015 election.

Pastor TB Joshua, who has Mr. Jonathan eating out of his hands, has been identified as the person who told the Nigeria leader that his political fortune rests with setting Al-Mustapha free.

In addition, Mr. Joshua has also told Mr. Jonathan if he is to win in 2015, he needs to bring back to Nigeria James Ibori, the former Delta State governor who is currently serving a 13-year jail term in the United Kingdom.

After TB Joshua's spiritual “forecast” was told to Jonathan, Sahara Reporters sources say he instructed the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke to take care of the judges involved in the case, giving him a war chest of $2 million.

But a judge, Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, a Northern Muslim, who was earlier contacted to do the dirty job, refused to accept the bribe and removed himself from consideration of the plan.

Another judge, Amina Augie, was then drafted to handle the Al-Mustapha’s acquittal. Ms. Augie, formerly known as Anna Graham, who is originally from Anambra State and fourth wife of late Senator Adamu Augie of Kebbi State, took the case and assembled some lawyers to help with drafting the judgement.

It is also alleged that she got help from some members of the Nigerian human rights community in drafting the judgement, which blamed the prosecutors in Mr. Mustapha's case for doing a “shoddy” job. Among other ridiculous arguments, Ms. Augie’s claimed in the judgement that the prosecution couldn't provide the bullet that killed Mrs. Kudirat Abiola in 1996.

Strangely however, Ms. Augie's concurring judgement was already made available to subscribers of an exclusive Nigerian lawyer's listserve, "Rule of Law" Nigeria. The judgement was provided to the listserv by the chairperson of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, who had initially derided a Saharareporters’ investigative report, which revealed that a deal was in the works to set Al Mustapha free of the murder charges two weeks before the judgement was hatched.

With reference to bringing Ibori home, it is unclear how Jonathan will go about it. The National Assembly has approved a prisoner swap law with the United Kingdom but it is yet to be seen how Ibori might benefit from that. Between his all-but-buried war against corruption and his deep desire to retain the presidency, there may be no limit to what policies he may come up with.

President Jonathan and his wife, Patience have made several nocturnal visits to the pastor since becoming president. Al Mustapha also visited the Pastor soon after he was released from prison before heading to Kano to meet with family and friends.

10  Forum / The Buzz Central / "The Devil made me kill my first husband with a stone" - Says Pregnant woman (P on: 22-07-2013 09:28 AM

Thirty-year-old pregnant woman, Fatimoh Issa, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command for allegedly killing her first husband, Issa Yunusa, 48.

Our correspondent gathered on Sunday that Yunusa was a commercial motorcyclist in Ilorin. Though the marriage had been blessed with three children, it was said that Fatimoh abandoned Yunusa after he had an accident and became financially incapacitated as he was no longer able to operate his commercial motorcycle business.

Fatimoh was said to have later met another man, Gani Ajibade, 25, a tricycle driver, with whom she started another relationship. Our correspondent learnt that the new relationship had been blessed with a child, while Fatimoh was also said to be expecting another baby for Ajibade.

It was learnt that not long ago, Fatimoh was informed that her former husband, Yunusa had fully recovered and had bought another motorcycle. She decided to go back to him.

However, while leaving Ajibade’s house, sources said she took his mobile phone. The source added thatYunusa accepted Fatimoh back.

But Ajibade, who was not pleased with the turn of events, was said to have stormed Yunusa’s residence and demanded for his mobile phone.

The deceased was said to have promised Ajibade that he would get back the phone from the woman.

But the following morning, July 17, the neighbours were woken up about 5am by shouts from Fatimoh, who was seeking help from neighbours.

Some of the neighbours rushed into Yinusa’s house to know what the problem was. They found Yinusa in a pool of blood. Yinusa was said to have been hit by a heavy object on the head.

A top police officer, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said, “Yunusa was attacked with a heavy stone and eventually killed by Fatimoh.”

Neighbours were said to have made spirited efforts to rush Yinusa to hospital for treatment. But taxi drivers were said to have refused to convey the victims because they feared that he might die on the way to hospital.

Our correspondent gathered that the police subsequently arrested and detained Fatimoh and Ajibade at the State Criminal Investigation Department after Yunusa was confirmed dead.

The Kwara State Police Public Relation Officer,

Mr. Olufemi Fabode, on Sunday said the two suspects were transferred from A Division to the SCID.

He added that Fatimoh had confessed to having committed the crime. Fabode, who is a deputy superintendent of police, said the suspect blamed the devil for her actions.

He said, “She told us that it was work of the devil. We also asked her what she used to kill him. She said she used abig stone. But when we asked her who would take care of the children since she killed her husband, she kept mute.”

11  Forum / Sports / Jose Mourinho Drops “Special One” Name; Now Calls Himself “The Godfather” on: 22-07-2013 09:25 AM

When the English press called upon the footballing gods to give them a manager that would keep every tongue wagging, the gods answered.
The answer: Jose Mourinho.
Back in England after a bittersweet stint in Spain with Real Madrid, the Special One is back for a second time with Chelsea. But in a recent press conference, Mourinho has decided to drop the Special One moniker for a new, boss-ier one. The Godfather.

‘Maybe I am just going to be the Godfather,’ he says.
‘I am one of the guys with more time in football,’ he said. ‘I have won all the English competitions and I think I’m the only European champion but that doesn’t matter. So, maybe I have a bit more responsibility on my shoulders. I have to be an example for everybody in terms of conduct and support, to be there for everyone when they need me.‘I have a c.v, I have status and I think they feel I am one of them, despite my passport being different, because I always defend them, their country and their football.’

The Godfather (we have to get used to this) also warned that this time would be different, and that no player was above being dropped from the starting line-up or sold.

Talking about John Terry, ‘He’s not safe,’ warned Mourinho. ‘He’s not safe and he knows he’s not safe. The only thing he knows is safe is our friendship, our relationship. Professionally, nobody is safe. Friends are friends but this is a business.

I have spoken to John,’ added Mourinho. ‘John has to work hard, give everything and the club will arrive at a conclusion. He loves the club. But he has to play completely free of that. I’m sure he’s able to do that, like Frank Lampard did.’

Lampard, Terry and Ashley Cole — stars of Mourinho’s original Chelsea team — are all out of contract next year and the manager admits his task is to balance regeneration and stability with success. No-one will be sold, he reiterated yesterday, Wayne Rooney is the only summer target and his tactical plans include restoring David Luiz to central defence and using Branislav Ivanovic mainly at right back.

‘For me, Luiz is a central defender,’ said Mourinho. ‘He can help the team playing in another position but he’s a central defender, no doubt about it.

It is not an achievement that can readily be savoured by his nearest and dearest.

But Kailash Singh has as good a claim as any to the accolade of world's smelliest man - after refusing to wash for more than 37 years.

Mr Singh, 65, has not bathed or cut his 6ft-long dreadlocks since 1974, shortly after he married.

Explaining his unconventional decision, Mr Singh claimed a priest guaranteed him a much-prized son and heir if he followed the advice.

Despite neighbours joking the sweaty farmer would be lucky persuade his wife to have any children at all, his religious guidance clearly failed - he has seven daughters.
Mr Singh spends his days tending cows in 47C heat, yet the only 'cleansing' he does allow himself is a 'fire bath' each evening, which involves smoking marijuana, praying to the Hindu Lord Shiva and dancing around a bonfire.

His long-suffering family admit they did once tried to force him into a stream.

'He fought us off and ran away,' said wife Kalavati Devi, 60. 'We've tried several times since to force him to have a shower but he puts up such a fuss.

'He says he'd rather die than take a bath and only a son could change his mind. It has been so many years now I've got used to it.'

16  Forum / Politics / Why Jonathan and His Wife Are After Me ––Governor Amaechi Bares It All on: 22-07-2013 09:00 AM

Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has finally opened up; he accused President Goodluck Jonathan of turning the PDP into a “one-man show” and of condoning “impunity and authoritarianism” in an effort to ensure his re-election in 2015 at all cost...

Amaechi, in an interview he granted the Financial Times of London, added that the President and his wife, Patience, were bent on removing him from office.

He traced his travails to the fear in the Presidency that whoever was in charge of Nigeria Governor’s Forum had the capacity to influence the presidential election in 2015.

The governor said, “There is this fear in the Presidential Villa that whoever chairs the Governors’ Forum will influence the presidential election,” Amaechi told FT in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

In a report posted by FT on Sunday, he alleged that “What has happened has been engineered to the point where the President and his wife are trying to remove me from office.”

“We are seeing an absence of law and order that can breed anarchy. It seems those at Federal Government level are not interested in democracy, but impunity and authoritarianism. The President needs to check this,” the governor added.

Amaechi also told the FT that he had not decided on his plans for 2015. He said that efforts by some in the PDP leadership to claim that he had lost the governors’ forum vote, despite him obtaining 19 votes to his challenger’s (Jonah Jang of Plateau State) 16, was a concerning sign ahead of 2015.

“If they can accept 16 over 19, people should be worried,” he said.

Indigenes Repels Attacks, Kill Five Gunmen in Southern Kaduna
A senior security source has confirmed to SaharaReporters that about three gunmen suspected to be members of an unknown militant Islamist group, were killed by local residents in southern Kaduna in the early hours of today. The fierce fight happened in an area known as Fadan Kaje, close to Zonkwa in Zangon Kataf local government.

The source added that the gunmen had specialized in carrying out night attacks in the volatile southern Kaduna area of Kaduna State. According to our source, some of the locals who repelled the attacks suffered some injuries.

Several residents told SaharaReporters that the whole area was agog with gunshots throughout the night.
Our security source said, “We are still gathering information from the scene, but the fact is that about five of the gunmen who attacked the village have been killed by the indigenes of the area.”
He added that this was the first time gunmen menacing the area suffered casualties since they commenced their guerrilla attacks in the area.

A retired senior military officer who lives in the area, when contacted by telephone from our New York office, said he was aware of the development but added that he had not been briefed about the casualties suffered by the gunmen. “Their luck finally ran out,” said the retired officer.

Last Thursday, another set of gunmen attacked a police station and killed two officers in Kaura town, close to the scene of today’s gun battle.

18  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Electrician Recovers Gov. Akpabio’s Missing Dollars, Gets N1m Reward on: 21-07-2013 09:32 PM
Bundles of mint-fresh dollars, valued at over $250,000 (about N40 million), which disappeared late last month from Governor Godswill Akpabio’s bedroom at the Akwa Ibom state governor’s lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, have been recovered intact.

SaharaReporters, had last month reported that the missing dollars, kept in drawers in the governor’s bedroom, were stolen while he was away dinning with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Rock Villa a fortnight ago.

PREMIUM TIMES has now learnt that the missing money was recovered a week after it disappeared.

It was found by an electrician invited to carry out minor repairs on one of the air conditioners inside the governor’s bedroom at the lodge.

Mr. Akpabio, who is well known for his profligacy with state funds, had reportedly ordered the dismissal of three stewards working at the lodge, suspecting they stole the funds.
However, unknown to the governor, the trio knew nothing about the missing money.

The culprit, a senior Akwa Ibom official close to the governor said, was actually one of the drivers attached to the office of the governor’s Special Representative in Abuja, who is the caretaker of the lodge.

The driver reportedly sneaked into the governor’s room and removed the dollars from where they were kept.
But because of the security around that section of the lodge, he cleverly tucked them inside the compartment of the air conditioner until a more convenient time he would be able to smuggle his fortune out.

Officials, who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES, said a week after the money was declared missing, it was observed that one of the air conditioners in the governor’s bedroom malfunctioned.

The driver plotting to steal money was, ironically, detailed to fetch an electrician to fix the failing AC ahead of the governor’s next visit. The electrician was called in as he had handled similar repairs in the past at the lodge.

On their way to the lodge, according to officials, the driver confessed to the technician how he had left “something” valuable inside the air conditioner, and which he expected him to retrieve for him, promising a huge reward if he did so successfully.

However, because of the extra security arrangement in place around the lodge following the incident, it was learnt that it proved difficult for the electrician to deliver on his promise, as one of the security operatives working at the lodge was promptly detailed to supervise the repairs.

On opening the air conditioner for repairs, the electrician was reportedly surprised that true to the driver’s earlier hint, there was a carefully wrapped parcel inside the appliance, preventing the system from functioning normally.
The electrician was said to have promptly alerted the security operative detailed to work with him about his find; and on opening the parcel, it was discovered that bundles of the missing money were actually inside.
Afraid he might be held as suspect in the incident, the electrician reportedly confessed to the operative about the favour the driver had sought from him on their way to the lodge.
The money was promptly handed over to the governor’s aide, who on breaking the good news to the governor, was ordered to give the electrician N1million cash as reward, while the dismissed stewards should be recalled immediately, although they were redeployed to other assignments.

The fate of the driver remained unclear at the time of the report.
