1  Forum / The Buzz Central / SAD : Glo X Factor: Smooth Boiz bow out on: 9-08-2013 08:13 PM
Luck has finally run out on the Smooth Boiz who were voted out by the judges after standing trial for two consecutive weeks as one of the last two least voted contestants. The Smooth Boiz ran the last test of their run in the reality show alongside the Symphony who have also being at the rock bottom for the second week running. Before a live audience on Friday, it looked like luck might again come to the rescue for the boys, but then they were standing at the exit door with the Symphony, who also needed all the luck they could get. Like a penalty shoot-out in a game of soccer, somebody must just take the fall. It was left to the 3 judges, Onyeka Onwenu, Reggie Rockstone and MI to vote one group out. A tough task that got Onyeka, who had to make the first call, in a bit of a twist. She voted Smooth Boiz to a quaking roar from the crowd.

That was the closest the Smooth Boiz got to making it back to the show as MI and Reggie, who voted in that respective order voted the Symphony. Well, this rather sad scenario played out after the two groups have done their last performances to woo the judges. Though, a good chunk of the audience thought the Smoot Boiz were hard done by the judges because there was a palpating feeling they gave a better show than the Symphony on their last outing. Hey, Reggie and MI have been around long enough to know who should stay or go. They left the stage for backstage and were supposed to be back pronto for the last act.

But the Smooth Boiz took their time. At a point people thought the boys have lost their hearts to turn up any act because it couldn’t have been changing from one costume to another that took that long. Anyway, nobody could pass up the change of winning 24 million and a record contract with internationally known Sony Music without having some horrors or living with the consternation of having passing up an opportunity of a lifetime. Even, the sense of loss from the audience became a tension that could be felt like a blow in the face when the Smooth Boiz came   back on stage for what was their farewell act and the quartet pulled an outstanding performance that must have gnawed at Reggie’s and MI’s heart for having to let the group go. - See more at: http://houseretailnews.blogspot.com/2013/08/sad-glo-x-factor-smooth-boiz-bow-out.html#sthash.T9Nhp6vI.dpuf
2  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / TRAGEDY! 2-yr-old daughter of barber felled by Police bullet yearns for father on: 9-08-2013 08:01 PM
Deceased’s last words: Please don’t abandon my daughter…
Never in his wildest imagination had Bright , a barber in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, envisaged he was going to be added to the endless list of hapless Nigerians sent to unprepared graves by trigger- happy policemen.
The barber whose saloon also served as his home, is a single father whose dream had been centred on training her two- and- half years old daughter, to the best school within his reach. But he never lived to fulfil his dream.
Bright, as gathered, had opened his saloon cum home penultimate Tuesday. As usual, he reportedly bathed his baby identified as Ebun, prepared her food and kept her under his watch when customers came in to have their hair cut.
But, the unexpected happened at about 10.30pm. According to eye witnesses, a mobile policeman attached to a company, poles away from Janet Fagbemi street, location of Bright’s shop, stormed the shop and ordered Bright to come out.

Eye witnesses told Crime Guard that Bright, who was then attending to a customer, left him and came out, oblivious of the purpose of the policeman’s mission. “As he stepped out of the shop, the Mopol shot him at close range . He continued shooting sporadically in the process of which four other persons including a pregnant woman were hit by stray bullets. From all indications, it was obvious he was drunk.
“It all started after the policeman who was on a short and T-shirt abandoned his duty post and accosted some men in a vehicle on the adjourning street. He told the men in the car to come down for a search. But they hesitated, requesting he identified himself before they would obey.
“Perhaps, their response infuriated him as he slapped one of them twice. While they were still trying to fathom what their offence was, he slapped the second man.
“Amidst frayed nerves, the men demanded to ascertain the identity of the man who assaulted them. At that point, the Mopol rushed to his duty post and came back with his gun, saying he would show them that he was just posted from Jos, Plateau, where people are killed anyhow. At that point everyone took to his heels before he went to Bright’s shop.”
How bullet hit pregnant woman
“A pregnant woman known as Ebere was in her house when she heard the gun shots. Suspecting robbers were operating, she rushed out to lock her gate , only for a stray bullet to hit her on the hand. Another victim, Nonso, was hit in the eye while the third, Tayo, was hit in the thigh”.
Bright’s last word
Crime Guard gathered that while everyone fled, Bright was left in the pool of his blood. On realising the magnitude of his deed, the Mobile policeman, later identified as Corporal Mohammed Abubakar, attached to Mopol 17, Ondo State, took to his heels.”
Even in the face of death Bright was said to have kept calling his daughter Ebun, pleading to sympathizers to rush inside his shop to ensure she was safe. When it was obvious he could not make it, he reportedly touched one of the sympathiser and said, “ please help me take care of my daughter until any of my relatives comes for her. He was said to have repeated the word twice. When he was making attempt to repeat it the third time to a neighbour he recognized in the midst of the crowd, he gave up the ghost.
“ He held my hand and appealed passionately saying, ‘please don’t abandon Ebun, no matter…’ before he breathed his last,”the neighbour disclosed.
Where are the deceased’s relatives?
As at Thursday, Crime Guard was informed that no one had come to be identified as the deceased relative.
A resident of the area revealed that “ Ebun was only six months old when her mother abandoned her. Nobody knows her mother’s name nor where she is from. We only know the deceased as Bright. We do not know his surname. He told us he was from Benue State. He did everything within his might to make Ebun happy since the mother left. He called her his little princess and carried her wherever he went.
When Crime Guard visited Ebun’s new home around the vicinity , she was seen carrying on with life unaware of her father’s whereabouts. But once in a while, her new parents said, “she would start calling out to her daddy . At that point, nobody can console her because she would be crying and at the same time, going about the whole place like one looking for what was lost. She has emaciated over night, even though we try to persuade her to eat what we all eat.”
As you read this piece, the remains of Bright, the single father who was determined to move on with life irrespective of its unpalatable experiences, lies at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital ,LUTH, Idi-Arara, morgue.
Police on the trail of killer cop
As at Thursday, nothing had been heard about the killer- cop who took off from the scene. Police authorities, as gathared, were worried about the weapon in his possession. In a bid to ensure his arrest, the Lagos State Police Command had launched a manhunt for him.
The State Police boss, Umar Manko, was quoted as saying that if the fleeing cop did not show up within 21 days, he would be declared a ‘Deserter’ and would no longer be seen as a Policeman but a ‘rebel’.
Police authorities have also called on members of the public to help avail them with information that could lead to the apprehension of the fleeing killer cop ,with a view to ensuring that justice was done.

4  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / SHOCKING : Church Fired Pastor For Attending Rick Ross Concert on: 9-08-2013 02:02 AM
Pastor Rodney Wills was just about to reach 4 years at Mt. Salem Baptist Church when the unusual happened. Reported by AmericaPreachers.com

He is the youngest pastor to be installed at 26 years old and is now the shortest term pastor in Mt. Salem’s 109 year history. On Saturday, Mt. Salem voted him out for attending a local Rick Ross concert. With a vote of 11 to 3, the 14 deacons met at 11pm Saturday night to discuss and come to a conclusion that they did not need his services anymore. Rev. Wills arrived to the church the next day for Sunday morning worship service and notice his parking sign taken down and his name removed from the office door.

The deacons even asked another minister from the community to officiate the service that morning. “We cannot have our leader supporting people of this world who are tearing down the kingdom of God.” said Deacon Miles Langley.

According to Deacon Langley, this is not the first time Rev. Wills has attended a concert while pastoring Mt. Salem. 9 months ago the diaconate board met with Rev. Wills when word was given to them that many youth and young adults spotted the pastor at a Lil Wayne concert.

“We know that many saints will have mixed opinions from our actions, but this is not how we do things here at Mt. Salem. We cannot have a pastor praising the world one minute then praising the Lord the next. Period” said Deacon Langley - See more at: http://houseretailnews.blogspot.com/2013/08/church-fired-pastor-for-attending-rick.html#sthash.aEOT607H.dpuf
5  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G -N-E-W-S: WHO, Boko Haram’s doctor arrested on: 9-08-2013 01:31 AM
The Joint Task Force, JTF, implementing the state of emergency imposed on Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, has arrested a medical doctor (names with-held) in Borno State, who is the  medical consultant to the  terrorist group. He is at the same time a consultant with the World Health Organization (WHO).
Vanguard gathered from reliable security sources that the arrest of the medical doctor followed a tip-off  that the terrorists had a well organized mobile medical facility with which wounded insurgents are treated.

The international connection of the medical doctor was, however, brought to the fore when suddenly, the international human rights watch dog, Amnesty International, sent its officials to investigate the circumstances surrounding the arrest of the supposedly WHO consultant.

“In fact, what gave him out was his suit case containing sophisticated medical equipment with which he provided diagnostic services to the terrorists”, the source said. Disclosing how the doctor was arrested, the source said: “A truck suspected to be carrying insurgents and IEDS as well as other dangerous weapons was stopped at a check point but it sped off. Unknown to the truck’s driver and other occupants of the truck, there was another checkpoint which had been alerted of their coming. When the truck got to that checkpoint, the security operatives fired  at it while the occupants ran into the bush.
“When the truck was searched, various types of IEDS, AK 47 rifles and other bomb-making materials were found. Also found was a suit case containing medical equipment. After some time, when the doctor felt the Special Forces had left, he came back to retrieve his suit case but was ambushed and arrested”.
The source added that “immediately the doctor was arrested, Amnesty International was calling the military authorities alleging that an innocent doctor has been arrested by the JTF forces and that he should be released because of his human rights, though the military authorities are not moved by their plea”.
In another development, Vanguard gathered that the recent attack at Government Secondary School, near Potiskum in Yobe State during which 29 students and a teacher were killed, was the fallout of the arrest of a lawyer with alleged links with the sect. Vanguard gathered that the lawyer (names with-held), was the one who always provided legal services for suspected Boko Haram terrorists each time they were arrested and he was said to be an ideological/ intellectual contributor to their activities in Yobe State.

Following his arrest by JTF forces, the lawyer allegedly said, “So you have arrested me. Let me warn you that this town will know no peace until I am released”.
The source said that two days after, the secondary school near Potiskum was attacked and the children (students) slaughtered”. After the massacre of the children, neighbours living in the area said they heard the terrorists shouting “Allahu Akbar, yes we have taken revenge for his arrest”.

The source said: “The most horrifying aspect of the students’ killing was that they asked the students, both boys and girls to pull off their dresses, and any student found with pubic hair on  his or her private parts, was not only shot and killed, they also used axes or machetes to cut off their legs from their body”. Both the medical doctor and the lawyer are however said to be in custody of the JTF forces and would not be released until investigations into their alleged connivance with the terrorists are concluded and they are prosecuted”.

The burglars dropped into the building from the roof and made off with laptops and other computer equipment.

There was a note attached which read: 'We had no idea what we were takeing [sic]. Here your stuff back we hope that you guys can continue to make a difference in peoples live. God bless.'

7  Forum / The Buzz Central / Shocking :Another Woman claiming She Had A 6week Affair With Lamar Odom on: 8-08-2013 12:54 PM
Another woman is claiming she also had an affair with Khloe Kardashian's huband

From Radar Online
How much more humiliation will Khloe Kardashian take? Just three weeks after Star magazine revealed her husband, Lamar Odom, had a yearlong affair with 29-year-old Jennifer Robinson, another bombshell has dropped: She wasn’t the only one! Gorgeous brunette lawyer Polina Polonsky tells the magazine, on newsstands Wednesday, that she had a six-week affair with Lamar, 33, earlier this summer.
What’s more, RadarOnline.com has learned she even passed a polygraph test regarding the claims!

Polina alleges that she and Lamar first met on June 2 at L.A.’s Roosevelt Hotel and according to her, the NBA star had been living at the plush hotel for a week, at that point, as his marriage struggled.
“I was under the impression that he had left Khloe, and that’s why he was living at the Roosevelt,” she explains. “He acted completely available and we definitely had a mutual attraction.”
Their flirtation escalated during meetups at the Roosevelt over the next week, and by June 9, they had their first kiss.

On June 13, they consummated their relationship at Polina’s apartment, she claimed.

“After we had sex, Lamar stayed the night with me,” Polina told Star. “The next day we went back to the Roosevelt. I stayed there with him for the next couple of nights.”
It wasn’t long, Polina says, until Khloe found out. And she was not happy.

On June 21, while Polina was at her apartment, Khloe and her momager Kris Jenner allegedly stormed the Roosevelt to confront Lamar and his lover!

According to Polina, Lamar told her that, while looking for him, Khloe and Kris banged on the door of the wrong room. When there was no answer, she claims, outraged Khloe even broke the door in!

Lamar, disgusted by Khloe’s behavior, went to stay with Polina on June 22, she says, and stayed there almost every night until July 8.

But even that hideaway offered no respite from Khloe’s rage, claims Polina.

On June 25, Polina says, Khloe and Kris showed up yet again. “I couldn’t believe they found where I lived and came to my apartment!” Polina explains. “They were knocking on the door, but Lamar refused to answer …”

9  Forum / The Buzz Central / Amazing: X Factor electrifies audience with massive X stage on: 8-08-2013 12:06 PM
The grand stage and set of the world’s biggest singing reality TV show, X Factor, has been the object of admiration and discussion amongst live audiences of the show since the unveiling of the top nine contestants last week in Lagos.
The show is brought to Africa for the first time by telecoms giant, Globacom, and contestants have performed on the masterpiece X Factor stage, following months of auditions in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja in Nigeria and Kumasi and Accra in Ghana.

The stage is massive and built to international standards.
The stage is built around an impressive “X” that is creatively lit internally with LED lights, which also frames one of the largest LED screens in West African productions.
The lighting rig is impressively on a scale seldom seen in West African productions and includes some of the latest technology used in international productions. Of notable interest is the use of 12 Sharpies to create a dynamic sweep of light across the stage and audience.
Fanning out on either side of the “X” is a strip of LED screens that pulsate with bright colours and graphics throughout the show. The set has a large thrust that picks up on the angles of the “X” and projects the artists out into the audience and onto the judges who are sitting at their signature X Factor desk.
According to some members of the audience, the stage is indescribable and beyond anything they had seen in this part of the world.
Despite the magnificence of the stage, more glamour was added when it was opened for the second gala show with large chandeliers hanging above massive, glace floor.

10  Forum / Sports / Soccer News: Nigeria Player of the Week: Victor Moses of Chelsea on: 8-08-2013 11:27 AM
The Chelsea man has been making all the right moves as he seeks to cement a place in Jose Mourinho's team

Victor Moses did not score in his last two games but his provision of assists for three goals in a star-studded Chelsea midfield nicked him this week's title.

It has been two outstanding performances from Moses as he sought to convince new manager, Jose Mourinho on his capabilities. And he succeeded as the manager has since praised him for his versatility and hard work.
He created the two goals from which Chelsea beat Inter and also created the second goal against AC Milan. The 22-year-old is hoping to exceed last season's performance when he played 41 times and scored 10 goals.
Moses' jinking run against Inter and his pass to Oscar created the first goal and on one of his rampaging runs, he was brought down for the penalty which Eden Hazard converted.
Against AC Milan, he came off the bench and gave Urby Emanuelson a torrid time. Time and time again, he took the ball past the Dutch left-back. His pass to Andre Schurrle in the 90th minute gave Chelsea their second goal agaInst Milan. - See more at: http://houseretailnews.blogspot.com/2013/08/soccer-news-nigeria-player-of-week.html#sthash.dSBS8s60.dpuf
11  Forum / Politics / MASSOB leader, three others arrested in Delta for chanting war song on: 8-08-2013 11:14 AM
The coordinator of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, Anioma/Ndokwa East region of Delta State, Emeka Okafor, has been arrested by officials of the state police command.
Okafor, 52, was arrested along with three other members of MASSOB at a location in Omini-Ugboma community, near the Bridge Head in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, ASP Lucky Uyabeme, who confirmed the arrest late on Wednesday evening, said the police acted on a tip-off to effect the arrest of the MASSOB who he claimed were chanting war songs.

According to Uyabeme, six Biafran flags were recovered from the suspects, adding that Okafor was their leader.
Uyabeme said: “Four members of MASSOB were apprehended at Omini-Ugboma near the Bridgehead chanting war songs. The police are currently investigating the suspects to ascertain the motives behind their congregating at the location where they were arrested.”
The image maker debunked the rumours in some quarters that seven members had died in the hands of security operatives, explaining that the rumours gained grounds due to the “fact that family members of the suspects have not been notified.” - See more at: http://houseretailnews.blogspot.com/2013/08/action-massob-leader-three-others.html#sthash.QsTe2fW3.dpuf
12  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Breaking News! One killed, two injured as hunters shoot vigilantes in error on: 8-08-2013 10:19 AM

It was a case of the hunter being hunted in Yagba West Local Government Area, Kogi State, Monday, as one of two sets of vigilante groups deployed to a crime zone fell to the bullets of another who mistook their colleagues for robbers, leaving one dead and two others badly wounded.

Eye witness accounts of the tragedy which occurred between Okunran and Okoloke communities were unanimous that the incident followed a tip-off  that highway robbers were operating along Egbe-Pategi federal road, dispossessing travellers of valuables.
Following the tip-off, it was gathered that a distress call from the local vigilantes in  Okoloke was made to the local government council, which responded by mobilizing more vigilantes from neighbouring Odo-Ere, the council headquarters and Egbe, the commercial nerve centre of the council, for reinforcement.

A team of vigilantes, numbering 12, immediately reported to the police divisional office at Odo-Ere before embarking on the rescue mission.
Confirming the incident, Media Assistant to Governor Idris Wada on Research and Documentation, Mr Ralph Agbana, who hails from the council, told newsmen that as part of their strategies, the local government vigilantes, on arrival at the scene, decided to split into two groups of six preparatory to engaging the robbers.
He said: “On their way, they met a car driven by one of the victims of the robbers who narrated his ordeal to them, confirming  that the men of the underworld were still operating.
A group of vigilantes then entered the car towards the scene. But as soon as the robbers sighted the car they had robbed, they took to their heels.
The vigilantes came down and fired at the robbers but their efforts were too late as they all disappeared into the bushes.
As the vigilantes re-strategized to ambush the robbers, another set of six hunters from Okoloke, joining forces with the vigilantes to dislodge the robbers but who claimed ignorance of the deployment of vigilantes from the local government, opened fire on the local government vigilantes who were caught off-guard.
One of the victims, whose name was given as Abayomi Sunday, was said  to have died instantly from bullets that hit him on the head.
Two of his colleagues, whose names were given as Bamidele Olayemi and Dele Asebiobirin, however, survived with bullet wounds on their leg and thigh and are said to be responding to treatment at the ECWA Hospital, Egbe.
Vice chairman of the council, Hon Omoniyi Adeyemi, also confirmed the incident, saying five of the unregistered hunters who allegedly opened fire on the vigilantes have been arrested and are being detained at the Divisional Police Office, Odo-Ere, while a sixth suspect was still at large.
The council chief further disclosed that although the shooters were identified as hunters who claimed to have joined in the onslaught against the robbers as volunteers, they were not members of the official vigilante group recognized by the council authorities.

14  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / BREAKING NEWS : RCCG ordains 2,000 assistant pastors on: 7-08-2013 09:26 PM
ON the second day of its 61st  annual convention at the Redemption Camp on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, responded to challenges of rapid expansion by the ordination of additional 2,402 assistant pastors into the mission.

The over 2,000 new assistant pastors were commissioned at the morning session of the second day of convention, with a charge to intensify the evangelization of a perverse world in accordance with biblical injunction.

The General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, prayed a short prayer for men and women, saying: “What you bind on earth would be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven,” and they chorused a resounding A-M-E-N.
In a sermon, Rev. Joe Olaiya from Kaduna who released the power of the Holy Spirit upon the new ordainees, charged the assistant pastors to go out there preach the gospel with assurance of signs following.

The minister outlined the keys they require to success in ministry which included obedience, faith and a commitment to preach the undiluted counsel of God no matter the circumstances.
He said: ”You have been given the power in the name of Jesus to set captives free and in doing this, signs and wonders will follow your ministry,” he said, adding that they must not be discouraged while urging them pray passionately for God’s support for their individual ministries.
Ordained  pastors react
A newly ordained assistant pastors, Pastor Vincent Udi of Lagos Province 8 expressed delight that he was counted among those ordained to contribute his quota to development of the church as it prepares people for God’s Kingdom.
According to him, the exercise represents a call to a higher and serious responsibilities, “one has been given a new challenge in the vineyard of God—a new chapter has been opened for those of us who were ordained today. We’ve been empowered or endued with power to pull down the strong holds of the enemies.”
To AP Adeleke Samson Adetunji of Lagos Province 39, who came from Epe for the ordination, the exercise has provided him with an opportunity to do exploits for the Lord, healing the seek and even raising the dead in His name, maintaining that he couldn’t do these before now.
For AP Ufort Helen Nse-Obong of the same province, the ordination is a dream come as she had prayed and looked forward to a day she would be privileged to be ordained in the mission.
Mrs Helen Ademola of Lagos Province 29 said: “It is the grace and mercy of the Lord that counted me worthy to be among those ordained today. I know there are great tasks ahead but I know through the anointing we will all succeed in Jesus’ name.”
AP Igbiti Alex of Lagos Province 24 also agreed that it was call to service “and by God’s grace we have all been endued with power to do as Jesus has commanded us to do. Judging by today’s anointing, I am delighted that God counted me to be among the chosen ones.”
Mrs. Afolayan Adetola of Lagos Province 10 also saw her election as a work of grace, adding that it is an added responsibility because “I have to do more exploits for the Kingdom of God.”
19 babies delivered at RCCG convention
AS at 3.50 p.m., yesterday, 19 babies became the first fruits of the ongoing convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God taking place at the Redemption Camp on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The boys appeared to have taken an early lead, as the nurses at the Redeemed Clinic and Maternity revealed that 10 boys have been born in two days as against nine girls.
According to the health officers on duty who want to remain anonymous, the mothers and their babies are in sound condition and some have already been discharged.
One of the mothers who spoke with Vanguard, Mrs Elizabeth Oluwakemi, who travelled from Akwa Ibom State for the convention, said she gave birth to her fourth child in the morning of the first day of the convention.
She said: ”I didn’t plan to give birth during the convention but I was a date that fell within the convention period and I am pretty happy that I am one of those lucky women to give birth during the convention,” adding that her first choice name for the baby would have been Emmanuel if she was a boy.
Mrs. Mary Abosede of Ado-Odo area of the church gave birth to a baby girl. She was among the first set of women to have done so during the ongoing convention.
She said: ”I give God all the glory because this is also my first child. Despite various health challenges during the pregnancy, God saw me through. Doctors told me my pelvis was too narrow and that the baby can only come through a caeserian session but at the camp I delivered safely without any operation or complication.”
Mrs. Philomena Okoh of Lagos Province 30 was delivered of a baby boy, the second in her family, explaining that her due date was actually last month but delivered on Monday.

15  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Busted: Man Arrested For Attempting To Burn Petrol Station on: 7-08-2013 09:21 PM
The police in Lagos State, western Nigeria, have arrested a young man identified as Dada Ajibo from Niger Republic for attempted arson.
He was said to have been found under a car parked at a filing station in Akowonjo with a lighter while attempting to set the car ablaze and cause explosion in the area.
The incident caused serious commotion in the area Tuesday because the residents were apprehensive that Ajibo might be a member of terrorist group, Boko Haram, bombing and killing people in northern Nigeria.
Ajibo was arrested and detained at Gowon Estate Police Division where he is being interrogated for allegedly attempting to set the filing station ablaze, along with three other accomplices now at large.
The middle aged man was found under a red Volkswagen Golf car with a  razor blade and lighter beside Oando Filing Station located at 170, Akowonjo road by Cele bus stop, Akowonjo.

While he was attempting to cut the fuel pipe with the blade under the car, the residents who suspected him alerted a mobile policeman guarding a nearby bank who arrested him.
The policeman found on him two Niger Republic passports, a razor blade and a lighter. This gave rise to suspicion by the residents that he wanted to cause explosion and destruction in the area.
The manager of the Oando filing Station where the incident happened, Mr Rabiu Omoniyi, said that the man went under a parked Golf car without the knowledge of the owner with lighter and a blade, ostensibly to burn the car which could have set the filing station and other companies around the area ablaze.
The policeman who arrested him said when the suspect attempted to escape, he threatened to shoot him, which made him to stop running.
He said he alerted the DPO at Gowon Estate who sent his men to take him to the station.
“He confessed that he was an illegal immigrant from Niger Republic,” the policeman said.
When P.M.NEWS correspondent visited Gowon Estate Police Division, the DPO was not around to comment on the matter.
However, a police source comfirmed the arrest and said that the police have commenced investigation on the matter.
The suspect was detained in the cell with his name written on the board as illegal immigrant.
A human rights activist, Commrade Babatunde Ashafa, said that Lagos residents should be more vigilant and report any suspicious movement in their area to the police to forstal any danger.
He said that the Boko Haram sect have scattered after they were dislodged in the north and there is possibility that they have entered Lagos, recalling that 42 members of the sect were arrested recently by soldiers in the state.
Ashafa also called on the security agencies to collaborate more with the citizens and human rights groups in the state to ensure that the citizens are protected.

16  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Tragedy : 13 Yrs Boy shoots his parents to death & grandmother Before Killing hi on: 7-08-2013 01:10 PM
A 13-year-old boy killed his police officer parents as well as his grandmother and great-aunt before spending a full day at school and then taking his own life.

Police believe Marcelo Pesseghini shot each victim in the head with a .40 caliber pistol early Monday morning at the home in Sao Paulo, Brazil, before catching a lift into school with a friend.

The father, Luiz Pesseghini, 40, a police sergeant with 19 years service was found in bed. The mother, Andreia Pesseghini, 30, who had served in the military police for 16 years was found on her knees in the bedroom.

The teenager was found dead from a gunshot to the left temple and his father's police-issue service revolver was found nearby.
A second gun, a .32 caliber revolver, was found inside the backpack the teenager took to school.

CCTV footage taken from a security camera close to the property in the Brasilândia district in the northern part of São Paulo appears to show him casually walking back home after school.

Everything seems to indicate that Marcelo (Pesseghini) killed his parents and relatives,' Itagiba Franco, of the Sao Paulo Civilian Police's homicide department, told a press conference.
Franco said Pesseghini had told a friend he wanted to kill his parents and become a hitman.

'He always told me he wanted to become a hired killer. He had a plan to kill his parents during the night, so that no one would notice and escape in the parents' car and live in an abandoned place,' police quoted the unidentified friend as saying.

According to him: “I think for all of us, I like to say ‘thank you’ very much to everybody who has rallied round from yesterday (Monday) morning before I returned from Saudi Arabia; the pouring of love from all Nigerians, from Mr. President who called persistently until he got through to me. He sent his representative today (yesterday0, the Minister of Sports and my brother governors, the imams, the ordinary men and women and everybody. Thank you very much.

”This is a painful way for us and for you to show how much you love us, but we really appreciate you. Our gratitude is deep and immense and we can never fully express it.
“As for my father, I think for all of us his children, he was first and foremost our friend, he was our best friend, so that is what we will miss really.

“Our father was a very loving friend, who allowed us to be the best that we could. He allowed us to be what we wanted to be, guiding and nudging, but never discriminated and that’s why he had children that are Christians, Muslims; children who are Europeans, children who are married across Nigeria.
”I think these have fully captured his life. I doubt if there is any person who did not have enemies, it must be my father because he just got on with life.

“He didn’t discriminate in any position he found himself, good, comfortable, painful, he just moved on.
“I learnt so many things from him and most of these things shaped my life today.  I try to be and I hope that I can be as rounded in integrity, humble in his attitude to life and fully committed in all situations as he was. He died in the month of Ramadan, he died on the night of majesty.

”We had just finished ‘Lailatul Quadri’ prayers in Mecca, and for me, God is great because if God gave him the opportunity to choose how he would go, and when, he could not have chosen the day he went.
“It was such a great time.

19  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / BREAKING NEWS: Shell moves to buy Chevron oil blocs on: 5-08-2013 10:20 AM
Oil giant, the Royal Dutch Shell Plc has notified the Nigerian government that it would like to buy some of U.S. firm, Chevron Nigeria’s licences.

A report by the US-based Wall Street Journal, WSJ, filed from London, weekend, quoted an unnamed senior Nigerian government official. The paper said it would be a rare acquisition by an international energy company in Nigeria, where oil companies have in recent years generally exited acreage amid mounting security risks.

It could also herald Shell’s exit from long-dormant oil assets in the Ogoniland region, where strident local opposition to its presence has prevented the company from producing oil since the 1990s.

The paper said buying Chevron’s blocs would effectively allow Shell to reduce its presence in the more challenging areas, while retaining enough assets to feed Shell’s existing pipelines.
Blocs OML 13 and 16 lie in Ogoniland, where opposition, following the execution of environment campaigner Ken Saro-Wiwa in 1995, has played a large part in preventing the company from resuming production. Shell has already sold off other assets in the Niger Delta, where it has maintained the longest presence of any foreign oil company.

Last year, Shell agreed to sell its most prolific oil block to a local consortium backed by U.K. explorer Heritage Oil HOIL.LN -1.79% PLC (HOIL.LN) for $850 million. Shell’s local joint venture doesn’t want to leave the Delta region, however, said a person familiar with Shell’s thinking. The Shell-led joint venture, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, could put Chevron’s assets in the region to good use, he said.

“Chevron’s fields are better secured and still have plenty of oil in them,” the person said.
Shell is the operator of SPDC’s assets and owns 30% of the joint venture. Its partners include the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. with a 55% stake, France’s Total SA (TOT) with 10% and Italian firm Eni with 5%. Chevron and Total declined to comment, and Eni wasn’t immediately available for comment.

“Shell has signalled it wants to sell some blocks,” the government official said. “Shell is also interested in Chevron blocks in the swamps.” Shell said Thursday that it is carrying out a “strategic portfolio review” that could lead it to sell leases in the eastern Niger Delta that currently give the company between 80,000 and 100,000 barrels a day of oil equivalent.
Shell Chief Executive Peter Voser said that while Shell would reduce its presence in some parts of the Delta, particularly the east where “sabotage is clearly a great concern to us,” it would still invest in others.

“We will not leave the onshore completely,” said Mr. Voser. “In the more pure oil play, in the eastern part, we will be less represented over time, but it doesn’t mean we go out of onshore.” The Anglo-Dutch oil company has put four of its own Niger Delta oil blocks up for sale, including two oil blocks in Ogoniland, two people close to the sale process said.
“Shell has informed potentially interested local players that the blocks OML 13, 16, 71 and 72 are for sale,” said one of the people, adding that the sales could fetch between $1 billion and $1.5 billion in total.

I have no doubt that the other victims, Olatunde Oluwanike and Kafayat Odunsi, were no doubt eminent journalists in whom their colleagues reposed great confidence thus electing them as their representatives. I commiserate with the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, and the other entire media professionon this unfortunate inci dent.”

Ahmed: On his part, Governor Ahmed, through his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, described the death as unfortunate, shocking and devastating. Ahmed said: “The death of the journalists has again brought to the front burner the issue of insurance policies for working journalists in view of the hazardous nature of their vocation.”

Coming at this time of our national life, such a disturbing incident only amounts to additional agony for the entire country, especially with daily reports of callous killings in one form or another”.

While commiserating with families of the deceased and the national leadership of the NUJ, the Sultan prayed the Almighty God to grant the souls of the victims eternal rest.He also prayed to God to grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss.

“We pray and wish all of them a quick recovery. The death of these Journalists and comrades is highly regrettable as it was preventable if there were good road governance in terms of good and maintained roads, and appropriate road safety measures. Indeed the sudden deaths of these working Journalists further points to crisis of governance in Nigeria.”
