Teenager in Court for Allegedly Killing His Mum with a MacheteAn Osogbo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded Ezekiel Adenipekun, 18, for allegedly killing his mother with a machete. The police prosecutor, Inspector Wilson Meriti, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 21 at about 3 p.m. at Irojo area of Ilesha, Osun. Mr. Meriti alleged that the accused inflicted machete cuts on his mother, Funmilayo, while she was sleeping in her room. He said the accused inflicted severe cuts on the victim’s neck, which subsequently resulted in her death. The prosecutor said the offence committed was contrary to and punishable under section 316(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003. The plea of the accused was, however, not taken because of the capital nature of the offence. Magistrate Habbibat Basiru ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesha Prison. Ms. Basiru also directed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice. The case was adjourned to October 23 for mention. Russian Police Allegedly Brutalize and Sodomize Olympic Construction WorkerPolice in the Russian city of Sochi, which is due in 2014 to host the Winter Olympics, allegedly beat and raped a construction worker over a pay dispute amounting to around 20,000 Russian roubles (N97,500). Vocativ reports that Martiros Demerchyan, a construction worker who spent seven weeks working on housing for the Winter Olympics was accused of stealing copper wire by his supervisor, after he said he was underpaid by 20,000 roubles (N97,500). After consenting to a search of his home, Demerchyan was told to go to pick up his pay from his supervisor, but says he was greeted instead by police officers. He said he was encouraged by police to sign a document admitting he stole the copper wire, but when he refused, he was beaten up, had two teeth cracked, before losing consciousness. The 38-year-old then said he was bent over and raped with a fireman’s crowbar. “I screamed,” he said. “I said, ‘I’ll sign whatever you want, just please don’t torture me anymore. I can’t bear any more of this.’” A medical report from a private medical centre in Sochi read that he had received two broken teeth, as well as “intestinal injuries obtained from penetration by a foreign object.” According to Vocativ, a representative for the Okhotskaya Building Company, which is responsible for the work Demerchyan was doing, refused to comment on the incident. A lawyer acting on behalf of Demerchyan, Alexander Boychenko, accused police of negligence in their handling of the case – saying the officer in charge took a month, rather than the maximum three days – to consider the case. The officer then decided that the case was not worth pursuing. Some have argued that the delay was a tactic in order to allow Demerchyan’s wounds to heal in order to see a court be less sympathetic. Demerchyan has said he still suffers from reduced vision and lower back pain and kidneys. He has also borrowed as much money as he can to support his four children and wife, but that he does not see justice in sight. Norway killer Anders Behring Breivik has applied to study politics at the University of Oslo, triggering fevered debate among university staff, who look likely to be forced to accept him. During his trial last year, friends of the far-Right extremist pointed to his decision to drop out of high school before graduating, despite higher than average grades, as a key turning point in his pathway to extremism.
Knut Bjarkeid, the director at Ila Prison, where Breivik is serving a 21-year sentence, said he would encourage such a move.
"The prison will always try to pave the way for inmates to get a formal education, so that they are able to get a job when they come out," he told Norway's TV 2 channel.
However, several members of teaching staff at the department of Political Science, who wished to remain anonymous, told the channel that they would refuse to teach the far-Right extremist.
Ole Petter Ottersen, the University's Rector, said: "I understand that there will be reactions. It is human."
But he explained that the University would assess Breivik's application on its own merits.
"We cannot refuse anyone the chance of studying at the University of Oslo," he said. "We have to follow the technical rules for admission."
Breivik killed 77 people and wounded 242 others when he detonated a bomb in central Oslo and then opened fire at a Labour party youth camp in July 2011.

Prof. Tenebe, who commended Obasanjo for giving a new lease of life to NOUN during his administration in 2002, stated that: “President Obasanjo, when he became a student which he did by example, resuscitated the university.... The university was in dormancy until when civilian rule under Obasanjo came on board and re-cooperated the university in 2002 while in 2003, we started our academic programmes.
Speaking on whether Obasanjo influenced his good result in any way, Prof. Tenebe said: “Obasanjo was a very brilliant student and I can tell you there were lots of controversies when his papers were being marked. I won’t disclose the secret of how our papers are marked but it is marked from Port Harcourt to Lagos, Kano, Maiduguri and the markers will never know whose paper they are marking. The administrative office of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, located inside the ever busy Benin City airport was this morning shut down by the Edo Board of Internal Revenue (BIR), over alleged unremitted N15 million Pay As You Earn (PAYE) deductible tax from staff salary. Passengers stranded at Benin Airport after it was shut this morning Hundreds of air passengers who were to travel by air to either Lagos or Abuja were locked out of the entrance and exit gates of the airport. Also, passengers of the only Arik aeroplane which landed early in the morning were neither allowed to go out of the gates of the airport. Chairman of Edo BIR, Chief Oseni Elamah told reporters that the action followed failure of FAAN to remit N15 million pay as you earn (PAYE) tax deductible from workers’ salary for the year 2011. “In the past, we had to use judicial means to get the money from them. This time, we served them notice but they failed to respond to it. We had to serve them court notice to that effect, which they still did not respond to. Hence, we had to come and seal up their administrative office.” It was, however, gathered that the office was shut, the airport management allegedly locked the two gates leading to the airport, making it impossible for passengers to either go in or come out of the airport. Following this development, Chief Elamah, who supervised the exercise, had the gates opened, saying that it was the administrative office of FAAN that was locked, and not gates of the airport. “It was a deliberate attempt to blackmail us. It was their office we sealed, and not the gates,” Elamah said. The Benin City airport manager, Mr. Sunday Ayodele could not be reached for comments as he was seen whisked away by operatives of the State Security Service. Meanwhile, air travellers were stranded in other parts of Nigeria on Tuesday after the Benin airport was shut. Between eight and ten flights operate at the Benin airport daily and only one Arik Air plane had successfully landed before the sudden closure. “We landed this morning but we cannot take off again. The airport is shut,” said Banji Ola, spokesperson at Arik Air. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, condemned the closure, saying that the Edo State Government does not have the right to shut the airport. “Edo State Government shut down Benin Airport in pursuit of tenement rates. Doctors at the General Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, are seriously battling to save the life of an 11-year old girl, Ita Bassey-Eno, who was allegedly set ablaze by the woman she lives with, Mrs Nkese Iroakazi, a nurse at a hospital in Surulere. Nurse Sets 11-Yr Old Girl Ablaze For Being Hungry Ita Bassey-Eno in critical condition Iroakazi was alleged to have poured kerosene on Bassey-Eno before lighting a match stick to set her ablaze after the girl was said to have stolen a piece of meat from the pot. Witnesses said the girl ran out of their apartment at 7, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere, unto to the main road with fire all over her body as she cried for help from passers-by to rescue her. It was gathered that someone quickly stopped his vehicle and used his fire extinguisher to put out the flame on her body. The incident, which occurred last Saturday, was immediately reported at the Bode Thomas Police Station and the police from the station arrested Mrs. Nkese. The little girl was rushed to the Burns and Trauma Centre, an annex of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital at the General Hospital, Gbagada, for urgent attention as the doctors in the hospital said she had suffered 95 percent burns and would take a miracle for her to survive. Bassey-Eno’s private part was damaged, while almost all her body is burnt. The whole of her body, except her face and her feet, are bandaged, while she wears pampers because her private part was damaged. On her hospital bed on Monday the little was groaning in pains while health officials described Nkese as callous woman and that she must be made to face the music. Executive Director, Esther Child Rights Foundation, ECRF, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, who was at the hospital to see the girl, wept when she saw her pathetic state, saying that in all her life as human rights activist, she had never come across such a gruesome case as that of the little girl. According to Ogwu, the situation is terrible. The doctor said the girl suffered 95 percent burns and that her private part has been damaged. This woman is more than wicked. Justice must take its course. “One of the health officials at the General Hospital, Gbagada called me and said a woman poured kerosene on the little girl staying with her and lit up a match stick and set her ablaze. The girl ran out of the house to the main road where a Good Samaritan used her car fire extinguisher to put out the fire.” Little Bassey-Eno, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, southsouth Nigeria, was brought from the village with another girl, Happiness Okon-Bassey, 13, to live with Nkese in June 2013 on the premose that she would send them to school, but that was not to be as the two girls allegedly performed the function of domestic servants for Nkese. The second house girl, Okon-Bassey, said she did not see when her colleague was set ablaze but that she heard her screaming when their mistress was beating her shortly before the she saw flame all over her body when she ran outside their home.

A source also told our reporter that De Don’s brother, Morris Iruvwe had initially undergone a kidney transplant in 2009 and now required another due to the collapse of the new kidney.
‘Morris’ first kidney in 2009 was donated by oneof his sisters. Since the operation, he has had to travel to India every now and then for check up until 2012, when he could no longer do so due to financial constraints. The former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo proved to be 'a very troublesome student' after he had decided to acquire more knowledge by matriculating into the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in 2007. The Vice Chancellor of the NOUN, Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, speaking on Monday at an interactive session organised by the Kaduna State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), provided some insight to the academic life of the former President. He also gave credit to Obasanjo who, as President, in 2002 brought the university out of dormancy, and academic activities commenced in 2003. It would be recalled that Olusegun Obasanjo, who stepped down in 2007, has become the country's oldest undergraduate by enrolling at the Open University at the age of 69. The Vice Chancellor of the NOUN narrated the university came into existence by an act of the National Assembly during the reign of President Shehu Shagari in 1982. Unfortunately, before the university could establish itself, the Military regime that took over suspended the act, and that was the reason the university was in dormancy. Then, according to the Vice Chancellor, 'the civilian rule under Obasanjo came on board and re cooperated the university in 2002, while in 2003 we started our academic programmes.' "Some of our students are now getting to the final year, and, like I told you earlier, we have gone through the NUC accreditation, and they have passed us. Now we are preparing for the Legal Council and Education and we are going to do that in conjunction with the NUC. And that, I will continue to say that our law students are equal to the task, they can compete with any law students from any university in the world not only Nigeria. "I can assure you that by the time we will present our curriculum to the Legal Council and Education, I am confident that we are going to pass. As I speak to you there is what is called National Competition that all universities that have faculty of law compete every year. NOUN is currently the champion. Wande Coal after years of staying loyal to his bosses, Dbanj and Don Jazzy has allegedly finally parted ways with Mavin Records owned by Don Jazzy to form his own label known as Black Diamond Entertainment. During the post Mohit era which saw Dbanj and Don Jazzy parting ways to form their own record label, Wande Coal pitched his tent with the super producer, Don Jazzy and released a number of hits under the Mavin blueprint.
With the likes of Wizkid and Iyanya running their own label and making it bigtime, Wande Coal finally summoned the courage to untie himself from the apron strings of Mavin to become his own boss.
His new single ‘Kilaju’ produced by Maleek Berry, which dropped yesterday was released under his Black Diamond imprint.

Conrad Murray is reportedly threatening to reveal ‘explosive‘ secrets about Michael Jackson and his family on TV when he is released from prison in October.
The disgraced former doctor – who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter after delivering a fatal dose of Propofol to the King of Pop in June 2009 – has reportedly been fielding multi-million dollar deals to tell-all about the late singer and his family when he is granted an early release from prison in October.
Murray has warned the ‘Thriller‘ star’s family that if they continue to push him ‘to the limit’ by slating him in the press and in their wrongful death lawsuit against concert promoters AEG Live, he will not hesitate to dish the dirt on Michael’s relatives – which he claims could ‘tarnish’ their reputations.
In a statement obtained by the Daily Star newspaper, he said: "Though I have encountered so much sorrow and I have a great deal of explosive information that is fodder for tarnishing images, I’ve remained loyal to Michael and to foes over the past four years.
"I will continue to be faithful and endure unless and until I’m pushed to the limit and endurance is no more."
The jailed physician has angered Michael’s family by refusing to aid his motherKatherine Jackson’s $100 million lawsuit against AEG – who she claims is responsible for the star’s death by negligently hiring Murray – and has insisted he won’t give evidence in the trial.
Meanwhile, it was recently confirmed that Murray will receive early release from prison in October for good behaviour.
Murray – who lost his medical license when he was found guilty – was jailed in November 2011 and will leave prison having served just under half of his four-year sentence.
