225  Forum / The Buzz Central / EXCLUSIVE: Julius Agwu and Wife! Family Things on: 11-08-2013 02:24 PM
One of the Naija artistes that has been so quiet and unnoticed recently is this jovial gentleman. Julius Agwu is one of Nigeria’s most successful entertainers. He got married to his wife, Ibiere, in 2008,and they are blessed with a girl and expecting the second baby soon. The couple takes us through their journey into marriage. Check out the interview and you won't want to stop...

How I met my wife
I met my wife at a wedding in Port-Harcourt in 2000. She was part of the bridal train. My mind was blown
away when I sighted her. Thereafter, we became friends. Somehow, we lost contact with each other and later, met again in 2002. The rest is history. We got married in 2008. Courtship We dated for eight years.
This is because her parents insisted that she must complete her education. After her Youth Service, they insisted she had to enroll for her master’s degree program. And I kept waiting for her.
When you court your spouse, that’s when you understand yourselves better. You find out what she likes and what she doesn't; her shortcomings as well as yours and find a way to blend with her. Some marriages are having problems today because of the inability of the couple to bring God into it. These are two people from different backgrounds coming together to live as husband and wife.
I am very temperamental and my wife too is a stubborn woman. But in spite of these shortcomings, we have learnt to manage our issues.

She’s not only beautiful, she is also intelligent. We connected immediately. She combines beauty and brain. I realize she’s something different. It’s not every lady you dated that you can propose to. Not every date can lead to marriage because God created every man and created a wife for that particular man. God also created every woman and created a husband for that woman. That two people dated does not mean that they must become husband and wife.

Your prayer should be that nobody should marry your own wife or husband. That’s how we connected.

Comedian Julius Agwu & his Wife Ibiere celebrate their daughter Zahra’s 3rd Birthday in Houston, Texas (2012)

Ready for marriage
Yes, at some point, I was ready to marry her but her parents delayed our marriage. When I first met her, I was not ready to marry her. Then, I was trying to build a career, but by the time she was finishing school, I was ready to take her to the altar. Like I said earlier, her parents insisted she had to complete her education. Accepting marriage proposal From the outset, she likes me. But when I first met her, she was about 18 years and she was giving me an attitude. I wasn't patient as I got angry. I didn't want to beg anybody .

This went on until 2002, when I lost my father and we ran into each other again. Coincidentally, that was her birthday. He got connected again. She came with her friends and we hung out that night. We exchanged our contact again and renewed our love for each other. 5 years after It has not been easy. Marriage can be funny. When it is sweet, it is sweet, and when you quarrel with your spouse, it looks as if that is the end of the marriage. But my attitude has always been that no two marriages can be the same. That has been my style.
You may quarrel, keep malice but the most important thing is that I have decided to spend the rest of my life with her, for better and for worse until death do us apart.

Advice to young couple
It’s just that whatever you do in life, you need to hold onto God. At any point, married couples need God to mediate in their marriages. Problem starts when they allow third party to interfere in their marriage. We are in an era where a lot of marriages are hitting the rock. It’s not about celebrities alone, it’s also happening in other professions. Because we are in the public eye, people easily notice when there is a crack in a marriage involving a celebrity. Female fans My wife understands the kind of business that I do.
I have an understanding wife and I know where to draw the line. That’s the truth.

Strength of marriage
God has been the bedrock of our marriage. That understanding that we both share; understanding of each other’s temperament and shortcomings has been made possible by God. Before I met my wife I dated other girls before I met my wife. That’s why I said when two people dated, it does not mean that they must get married. I had one or two girl friends who were on the line then. But it did not work out for us. I prayed for God’s direction and He directed me to my wife.

What I dislike about my wife
My wife is not as loving as I would have wanted her to be. There’s what we call display of public affection, she does not give me that. That’s one thing I don’t like about her. May be, it’s because she’s an introvert. Sometimes,I get scared because of her quietness. Love in marriage Love is the foundation upon which marriage is built. That’s why I said earlier that it’s sweet when it’s sweet.

But when you quarrel with your spouse, it looks as if you have become sworn enemies. Sometimes, hardship forms part of the reasons most marriages crash in our society. But it is only when trials set in, that husband and wife are expected to show understanding to each other. That’s when truly love counts.
If you love your spouse right from the out set,you should be able to make sacrifices. Every relationship depends on what you put into it. While I was in the university, I propounded a theory of relationship known as “PUT”. “PUT” stands for Patience, Understanding and Tolerance. These three factors must be presence in your relationship with your wife, children, parents, siblings and even with God.

I didn't take him seriously — Wife
Now read the wife part of the interview...again, I found this fascinating

How we met
It was at a wedding ceremony in Port-Harcourt. When he proposed to me ,I did not take him seriously.

Stronghold of my marriage

God, and believing in each other. Attraction I really do not know what attracted me to him. We were friends for a while, before we later got married.

Female fans snatching him
That means he does not belong to me. I’m not scared, instead,he should be the one to be scared. If he allows them to do so, that means he does not belong to me.

How I see my husband
He can be funny but at the same time, he’s annoying. He knows how to get me annoyed.

226  Forum / The Buzz Central / Things Didn't Work Out, So I Walked Out Of My Marriage – Actress, Moji Olaiya on: 10-08-2013 01:29 PM

Don't say I've has come again with another story of broken home. But you just have to read this to know what these artistes are passing through. However, this very interview is more than 'family thing', the popular actress, Moji Olaiya, also talk about her career.

You are in a soon to be released soap, Glass House. How did it come about?
A producer we call Jerry (Isichei) produced it. I am a major cast in the series. Most people know you as a Yoruba actress, but you are now featuring in an English series…

But this is not my first job in English. Don’t forget that I came to the limelight through Super Story and which of course, was in English. I am also in Nowhere to be Found, which is another popular soap.

We learnt that you played the role of an illiterate woman in Glass House
Yes, and it was very challenging. I got married to a bank chairman in the series and I am also a publisher. I played ‘Moji’ even in the series. The character is just a very funny person. I must tell you the soap is very interesting. I am very happy I played that part.

You have not produced any movie in recent times…
The last movie I produced was last year and it even won an award. It was premiered in Canada at the Toronto film festivals. The market is not really encouraging now. That is why most producers are really calming down to see the outcome of this piracy issue. That is why most people are not doing movies now.

Are you saying you didn’t make enough from your last movie?
We didn’t make what we expected because of piracy. However, the movie sold. It won the best movie award at last year’s Yoruba Movies Academy Awards. It was also screened at the Africa Movies Academy Awards.

But it wasn’t nominated in any category…
I don’t know what happened. As far as I know, it was well shot. It had good picture quality.

Will you say your father’s name has opened a lot of doors for you?
I’ll say yes. Let’s take for instance my state, Ekiti State. Most things they call my father to do, because he is old and cannot be travelling up and down, they call me to do them. I even remember the first time I went to the German Embassy for a visa. Getting the visa was very quick because the lady that attended to me knew who my father was. I got the visa. I am proud to be associated with him as somebody I can call my father. There are so many legends out there, yet their children are not proud of them.

Granted your father is a showbiz man, but most of your siblings are in other professions. How come you are the one that went into showbiz?
I think it is where God wants me to be. It is my destiny. When I was little, I loved entertainment. I was called to act and sing in my church when I was little. Growing up though, I never had the intention of acting. However, along the way, I got into it. I’ll just call it luck. I have no regret. If I should come back to this world again, I still will love to be an entertainer.

What really happened to your marriage?
You see, I am an advocate of marriage. I preach that women should be in their husbands’ houses. All my life, I have always wanted to get married and stay with my husband and bring my children up in the fear of the Lord. But along the line, things didn't work out. I don’t even want to get into the details so that it doesn't get messier. But things didn't work out.

So you left your marriage because ‘things didn’t work out’?
If things are not really working out, I think the best thing for you to do is to quit and leave everything in the hands of God.
I don’t think it was my fault. I didn’t have any fault in the marriage. However, I will not blame the other party. I really want to keep this off the press as I have been advised by my family. It just didn’t work out.

Some might think that you didn’t want to stay in a husband’s house…
I don’t think I will get married and say that I don’t want to stay in my husband’s house. It is only a senseless person that will do that. I am in my late 30’s. Why would I, at this age, not want to be in a husband’s house? It’ll get to a time that you will need a man. But when you get the man and things are not working the way you planned and you know you still have a long way to go in life, you have a fruitful career, then the best thing for you to do is to quit the marriage and let the man go.

Could it be that you got another man because we learnt that you have a Canada-based lover…
Is it possible for me to get married to someone else when I am not officially divorced? I don’t know how people think. I don’t have anybody in Canada and I have never dated anybody in Canada. Even people who know me are not usually aware when I am in Canada. Canada is my second home, but I am always inside. I really don’t know where they got this false story from.

But are you planning to get married soon?
I am not planning to get married soon. And just to get it straight, I am just separated from my husband. I am not legally divorced and I don’t have any lover anywhere.

What if you and your husband make up eventually?
Well… I will not say anything about that. I just think we should leave everything to God. Let him perform that wonder that He wants to perform. I believe that He is up to something.

You talk like somebody who is pained…
When things you didn’t plan for happen, it will hurt you especially with all the things happening in our industry now. People think we are not serious and we don’t understand the institution of marriage. That is not so. My parents weren’t separated. I was brought up properly. My siblings are married. It is painful when you get married and you eventually leave that marriage because of something that is beyond your control.

You used to say you are an evangelist
I am an evangelist. I am a strong Christian. I preach on TV. So what am I teaching the younger ones? Am I telling them that marriage is not good? No. So I feel pained that this is happening. It is good to be married. It is good to have a crown over your head, somebody that can control you and you bear his name. It is painful; I know I am a role model to so many people. I know some people’s impression about me will be affected. But I know best and I know why it happened. I am sure that God will not even be angry with me that I made the decision at that time.

I am sure I have not made the wrong decision. I would only tell my fans that I didn’t enjoy doing this but they just have to support me and pray along with me. I am an advocate of a peaceful marriage. Women should be married. I am not speaking for anybody but my colleagues whose marriages broke up know why they left their marriages. I did what I did because it was the best thing I could do.

But every lady needs a man beside her. How will you be managing?
I didn’t say marriage is out of the way now. Now that I got married and it didn’t work out, I have to be careful the next time. I have to choose well so as to avoid the first mistake. I am just taking my time. And in fact, God might even tell me to go back to my first marriage, He can also tell me to move on. So let us just leave it for God to handle.

Could it be your profession that affected your marriage?
I don’t think so. While I was with him, I didn’t feature in so many movies. I just faced my marriage. It was just recently that I started featuring in movies. I never went for awards or functions. I wanted that marriage to really work. However, he even met me as an actress. I couldn’t have left my career because of marriage. In fact, I cannot leave my career for any marriage, no way! Even if I am getting married to the richest man, I don’t think he will tell me to quit acting.

Did he ask you to stop?
He never asked me to stop acting. We never had any issue concerning my career.

We know Fathia Balogun is your friend. Could it be that you decided to leave your marriage because your friend is also separated from her husband?
Fathia is my friend, I cannot deny that. But I couldn’t have left my marriage because hers didn’t work out. It is wrong for anybody to think that way. She knows what happened in her case, I know what happened in my own case. Come to think of it, when I go on set, I just want to face my business and get out. I don’t listen to gossip. I don’t know who is fighting over men. I just do my job and it is over. I don’t believe that anybody in her right senses will fight over a man.

Were your parents in support of the separation?
I didn’t take the decision alone. But I think I will leave this out of the papers. I am an advocate of a good thing. I will get married again. I have to know what I want. I have to know who the person really is before I get into it.

Didn’t you know who he was before you got married to him?
I can’t really say I didn’t know who he was. But things just happened. God knows best. Let us just leave it at that.

Did you have any children?

Could it have been the reason for the break up?
No way. He is not God and I am not God. The marriage was just three years. We have seen couples who didn’t have kids for so many years and they didn’t break up. Not having kids couldn’t have been the issue because I know I don’t have a problem. He doesn’t have a problem too. He has two kids and I have a kid before we got married.

Do we see you doing another thing apart from movies?
Yes. I will start events management. I will open my business very soon.

228  Forum / The Buzz Central / HALLELUJAH! Check Out Nolywood Actors who have found Christ on: 10-08-2013 11:17 AM
No doubt, fans love and adore movie stars. However, despite the love, the personal life of some of these stars is far from decent. Actresses, especially those who are stereotyped as cheap, promiscuous, money hungry, greedy and selfish are worst hit. On the other hand, the men are seen as gigolos, party animals, womanizers, and all sorts.
These features do not necessarily apply to all of them, as some people have argued that there are still decent ones among them. And in this era of many claiming to have “become new creatures,” these stars also have proclaimed a new life, with some even going as far as claiming they have given their lives to Christ.
Here are a few actors who have had a very fair share of the fast superstar life, and today profess to live for Christ

Eucheria Anunobi
Probably, the most publicised conversion to Christ is that of Eucheria Anunobi. The actress fondly called UK by her friends has been the subject of various controversies and scandals, topmost of which bordered around her relationships, broken marriage and eventually her demand for her ex-husband to keep providing for the only son of their union, whom she has in her custody.
After many years of being in the news for all the wrong reasons, many were surprised when she announced she had given her life to Christ. Few months after the news broke, UK was ordained at the Fresh Oil Ministry, Egbeda, Lagos, as an evangelist.
The ordination was performed by Pastor Psalm Okpe, who anointed the top Nollywood actress, accompanied by other men of God. Some of her close colleagues like Susan Peters and Clarion Chukwurah were on hand to support their friend during the ceremony.
With her ordination, Eucharia can fully preach as a pastor. In fact, it is said that she already counsels youths in the church. This, however, has not taken away some of the traits that made her fans term her “a bad girl” before now. UK is still flashy. Just weeks after the ordination, she got a BMW X5. It is not clear if it’s a gift or a personal purchase.
UK has, however, vowed to use her fame to win souls for Christ. She also assured her teeming fans that she would not abandon her acting career, pointing out that she would be choosier in accepting roles in movies.

Ernest Asuzu
Do you remember Ernest Asuzu? The Imo State-born actor was the toast of movie lovers some years ago. He took on the role of the lover boy with great skills, and was indeed the ladies’ man in real life. But not long after, he disappeared from the radar. Before his withdrawal from the movie scene he was engulfed in scandals and controversies, which got him negative media attention.
During his hiatus, it was rumoured that he was down with mental illness while some even said he was dead. However, he resurfaced with a turn-around in more ways than one. In a chat, he told some reporters that the world rejected him, and he had to go back to Christ.
With this discovery, he underwent a period of rebranding and soul-searching, coming out strong as a gospel artiste. He now calls himself El Cream. With his new musical identity, he has released a music video for his single, ‘Go Under’. The new single is coming off his forthcoming album, Return of the Don.

Rita Nzelu
Not much has been heard much from this popular 90s actress for some time. Now, we hear that the former actress, who has been in the UK for over 10 years, has become a born-again Christian and has been ordained an evangelist in a UK-based Nigerian church. She is said to be very active in church, as she keeps posting invitation to churches on her social media handle.
She still acts in Nigerian movies shot in London.

Kanayo O. Kanayo
Veteran Nollywood actor, Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, popularly known as Kanayo.O.Kanayo, is now a pastor. He has been preaching in some churches in recent times. He is mostly seen teaching the word of God at Christ Mission Worldwide Church, Egbeda.
Though he does not preach there regularly, it is said that the number of church members has grown since the day he first preached there.
That is not the only church he has ministered in at. His face has also graced banners and posters of other churches’ programmes. This recent development comes as a shock to some of his friends and colleagues who know him well.
There are allegations of nefarious activities that go on in his Surulere office. The place is described by some of his colleagues as a magnet for young girls.

Pat Attah
Where is Pat Attah? From what we gather, the once-upon-a-dreadlock-turned clean cut actor has left his life in the country behind. Pat, currently, is based in Hamburg, Germany and has turned a preacher. Though he does not preach in churches, he is now very much a born-again.

Many knew him before he left the country to be close to the ladies and in love with the bottle. Today, reading his posts online, one would know things have changed in his life. Pat often uses social network sites including Facebook to deliver his sermon and messages to all who care to read.

Zack Orji
Actor, Zack Orji, has been ordained a full-time evangelist by Bishop Emma Isong of Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI). In fact, the veteran actor has engaged in various evangelical activities in Abuja, Nasarawa and Makurdi with the church.

Zack has hardly been linked to any scandal. Only close friends know that he goes to a bar in National Stadium in Lagos, where he usually takes a particular brand of drink. Zack Orji is married to Ngozi Orji and they have three children.

Liz Benson
Elizabeth Benson, popularly known as Liz Benson, began acting when she was just a kid. Her journey to stardom began when she appeared on the set of the popular television soap opera, Fortunes, in 1993. Liz Benson played the part of Mrs. Agnes Johnson in the soap, which ran for about two years on the Nigerian Television Authority network. After that, she acted in various TV series and many movies.

In 1994, her role in Glamour Girls, a very successful home video that focused prostitution as the theme, literally changed her fortunes.

The movie shot her into prominence and gradually she wormed her way into the heart of millions of Nigerian movie fans. As popularity came, so did media scrutiny. Several media reports linked her with different men and she was said to be dating some men in power.

However, after a quiet court ceremony in Abuja, she got married to a Bishop Great Emeya in 2009 at the Rainbow Christian Assembly in Warri, Delta State. She too was ordained an evangelist in the church.

Presently, she runs the church with her husband.

229  Forum / The Buzz Central / "I'm A Victim Of Domestic Abuse; I Was My Husband Punch Bag"- Chika Ike on: 10-08-2013 08:50 AM

What got into Tony Eberiri that he didn't go to a boxing ring for training but decided to turn our dear actress Chika Ike into his boxing mate? Really sad! Below is how Chika Ike captured her experience:
The past three years has been a very emotional period for me. I focused my energy on work and to build back my self esteem. Its been really hard for me to come out straight and talk about this because sometimes I pinch myself to wake up and not believe that I was a victim of domestic violence.
I've been through a lot in my life, faced a lot of challenges but this is one topic I've tried so hard to avoid and have been waiting for the right time but I have come to a resolve that there's really no right time because every second of the day, lives are being lost due to domestic violence. I was a victiim of domestic violence in my marriage and that was the singular reason I left my marriage, aside other reasons.

Growing up as a girl. I was always known as the sweetest kid on the block, before I got married, I have been through some relationships and for once no man had ever laid a finger on me. The first time it happened in my marriage I didn't understand it because I am not the type of woman a man beats but I guess there are no types. It just happens and no woman deserves it. As a young girl I thought it was love or his way of expressing his emotions, after every beating he pleads, cries and says it won't happen again, once again I thought it was love and made excuses for him.

Over the years when it kept happening consistently I started looking for other definitions for it. I started loosing my self pride, self esteem , self worth, and most painfully I lost a pregnancy (Miscarriage). I almost lost my life in the process then I realised how serious and abnormal it really was.

I have heard and read a lot of accusations from ignorant people who don't know my story,I  guess that's why they are ignorant. I was 20yrs old and very naïve to the world when I got married.  “ LOL. I was married to a corporate guy, who had a 9_5 job in a bank, Lives in a rented 2 bedroom apartment at Egbe.. So do the maths! . I married for love. I did a traditional wedding. A white wedding and a court wedding. So that's how much I wanted to be married forever.

For five years I hoped, prayed & wished that one day it will all change. But the last straw that broke the carmels back was during a heated argument he threw a glass jug to my face and I dogged it and it shattered on d wall. I saw death flash before me and I made a decision to save my life. I left my marriage.

Am not saying this to draw pity from anyone because we are entitled to our opinions and believes. I am not also saying this to discourage people from falling in love because its a beautiful feeling and I still believe in it. I am saying this to educate, share and talk about my experience as a victim of domestic violence because it is real.

231  Forum / The Buzz Central / I Don Shine My Eye; I'm No Longer After A Rich Man Anymore –– Actress Benita on: 9-08-2013 09:25 PM
The saying that ladies' specification for the kind of man they would love to marry and spend their lifetime with changes as they grow older is indeed a timeless truth. As you read this, one of the single Nollywood actress in her 30s, Benita Nzeriba has confessed that she is no longer interested in a rich man, saying she can marry any man that comes her way, even a poor man.

When asked why she is yet to get married, actress Benita Nzeri said: “If I have to say the truth, marriage is
not all about money or the little things of life. We should marry for real love. That is why I see myself as being able to marry whoever I am in love with, no matter his status in life. Tat is to say, even if the guy is a wheelbarrow pusher, I would marry him so long as my heart is with him.”

When babes are in their early 20s they do a lot of shakara for men and the few who are opportune to make money in their late 20s see any man who come their way as coming after their money. But, observed that once they cross the 31 mark, it becomes a different story.
Anyway, we wish Benita Nzeriba good luck in her sincere search for a good husband

The funny man who knows how to crack our ribs and get paid heavily for doing so has just hit the golden age birthday and I hear he is putting together a party to celebrate the big day and his success thus far.

The case of Mr Hafiz Oyetoro is a classical example of the saying that who God has blessed let no man
curse as it was indeed a tough journey for him to the top. Things were so bad for him back in the day that the first woman he wanted to marry rejected him.
But today the story is different! It was observes that he is ok and now has a name that is a force to reckon with in the industry. And we wish him more and more success in the days ahead.

The WAEC on Wednesday released the full results of 1,543,683 candidates who sat for its May/June 2013 Secondary School Certificate Examination.
The number represents 91.38 per cent of 1,689,188 candidates who registered for the examination,.

The Head of National Office (HNO) of WAEC, Dr Charles Eguridu, announced the results on Wednesday when he addressed a news conference in Lagos.

Eguridu said 889,636 candidates obtained six credits and above, while 1,074,065 others obtained five credits and above.
According to him, the results of 145,505 others, representing 8.62 per cent, were being processed due to some errors.

“These errors are traceable to the candidates as well as their schools in the course of registration or writing the examination.’’

The HNO explained that such errors were being corrected by the council to enable the affected candidates to get their results fully processed and released subsequently.

Eguridu disclosed that the council cancelled the result of 2,176 candidates.

He explained that the cancellation was due to multiple entries by the candidates discovered while processing the results.

“In line with the council’s regulation, the entire results of such candidates who have been found guilty of this act had been cancelled, “ he said.

The HNO also said 112,865 results of candidates, representing 6.75 per cent, were withheld due to examination malpractice.
Eguridu pointed out that the cases were being investigated and that reports of the investigations would be presented to the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) for consideration.
Further breakdown revealed that 1,225,591 candidates obtained credits and above in four subjects, 1,353,273 obtained credits and above in three subjects, while 1,465,581 obtained credits and above in two subjects.
Eguridu said that of the 121 blind candidates, 117 attempted it while 24 obtained five credits in five subjects including English Language.
“Blind candidates do not take Mathematics and Science Practical in WASSCE diets“, he said.

He hailed security agencies for providing the much needed security throughout the conduct of the examination.

The HNO said that despite the security challenge in the country, especially in some parts of the North-East, the council was able to conduct the examination.

“We thank the Federal government and security agencies particularly in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States for the support rendered the council during the conduct of our examination.
“We equally commend the Federal and State Ministries of Education for their support in terms of their facilities and logistics given to us during the conduct of the examination.’’
He decried the murder of three of the council’s personnel by gunmen while on their way from Yola to Maiduguri.

The candidates can check their results online on the council’s website within 24 hours of the declaration of the results.
