Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / FG Should Settle Rift With ASUU Or Else.. |
on: 13-09-2013 10:03 AM
| As the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, enters its 10th week, the Anti- Corruption Network, has given the Federal Government one week within which to settle its problems with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, or face nationwide mass protest. It also advised President Goodluck Jonathan to write to the National Assembly for virement or seek for loan to settle the demands of university teachers. The group said it would mobilize Nigerians to the streets and protest to the Ministry of Education, should government fail to do the needful. Executive Secretary of Anti-Corruption Network and former member of the House of Representatives, Dino Melaye, said yesterday that government’s attitude showed it had no interest in the future generation of Nigerians. Melaye said: “The Federal Government as far back as 2009, went into an agreement with ASUU and signed that agreement. Why will you agree to what you don’t intend to do? “A gentleman will go into an agreement and then carry out the agreement to the latter. The agreement was made in 2009; why was there no budgetary provision for that agreement in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013? | | |

Forum / Politics / ASUU Strike Left No Chances for the Education Minister to MaintainPost |
on: 13-09-2013 09:56 AM
| Professor at the Pan Atlantic University, Austin Nweze, in his appearance on ChannelsTV has analysed the recent cabinet reshuffle by the President Goodluck Jonathan. The renowned public affairs analyst is sure that the ongoing ASUU strike contributed to the eventual sack of former Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayat Rufai. He explained that the cabinet reshuffle, which led to the sack of 9 ministers, “is a normal thing” adding that as 2015 elections draw near, President Jonathan wants to choose those who would help him achieve his second term ambition which he is yet to admit officially. The ministries that were affected had ‘question marks’ in terms of performance. He stressed that the ASUU strike, which has entered its 74th day, also contributed to the sack of former education minister as the President’s decision for Governor Suswam to head a committee to resolve the crisis was a warning signal that all was not well. That showed failure of leadership, he said, adding that, there has been nothing spectacular about the ministry of education. He further stated that it is expected for every minister to generate ideas in line with the President’s agenda but “it is not clear what the President wants to achieve in education sector”. He added that the former minister was guilty of the same situation. The announcement of the termination of the ministers appointments raised uproar in the public domain and has been described by some as a political move, which the Presidency denied. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Jilted Boyfriend And His 7 Friends Gang-Rape His Girlfriend |
on: 13-09-2013 09:46 AM
| The police has arrested one Stephen Obi for allegedly conspiring with seven other men to gang-rape his estranged lover, a 28-year old woman (name withheld) in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. According to the lady, she decided to end their relationship because Obi said he wasn’t ready to marry her as she was 5 years older than him and this didn’t go down well with Obi who wanted the relationship to continue. He therefore, organized seven of his friends to gang-rape. On the day the lady was allegedly gang-raped, Obi reportedly invited her to Baba Olopa Street, Adexson, in Igando to settle their differences. She obliged him and went. She said when she entered his room, seven of his friends came in and they locked the room and started beating her and asked her to strip. Obi then brought out condoms and gave them to the seven men who started molesting her in turns. She told her father about the ugly incident when she got home and they went to Igando Police Division and reported the matter and Obi was arrested and charged to court. But the other seven men escaped before they could be arrested. Obi has been charged with conspiracy and rape before Ejigbo magistrate court, while seven of his accomplice are still on the run. When the matter came up on Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge. The presiding Magistrate, Mr M.B. Folami said after going through the doctor’s report that Obi should be remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri adjourned the case to 23 September, 2013. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Following Tradition: 92-Yr-Old Man Marries 22-Yr-Old Girl |
on: 13-09-2013 09:41 AM
| It may sound a little surprising to many across the world, a 92- year-old Iraqi man married a woman, who is 70 years younger to him, in a ceremony which also witnessed the wedding of the groom’s two grandsons. Muslai Mohammed, one of the most prominent figures in his village, decided to get married three years after the death of his first wife, who died aged 58. Interestingly, Musali Mohammed al-Mujamaie’s two teenage grandsons also tied the knot in the same ceremony that was attended by several local tribal and religious leaders of Gubban village which lies south of central Iraqi city of Samarra. After wrapping up the wedding ceremony, an excited Musali Mohammed al-Mujamaie said, “I am so happy to get married with my grandsons.” Stating that he felt much younger at the age of 92 after getting married in the same ceremony with his grandsons aged 16 and 17, the eldest groom added, “I feel like a 20-year-old!” Musali Mohammed al-Mujamaie went on to say that the marriages of his grandsons were getting repeatedly postponed due to the delay in the arrangements of his marriage. It was Musali Mohammed al-Mujamaie’s second marriage, three years after the death of his first wife, who expired at 58. The duo raised 16 children at their village of Gubban. The extended ceremony of triple wedding witnessed various musical and dance performances and celebratory gunfire. “I remained alone when my wife died, there was nobody to share anything with. I wanted to have a good time, have some pleasure, but there was nothing. Then God brought her to me, for my pleasure. Is that good or bad?” he said. Muna al-Jabouri, his new wife, said: “I accepted (to marry him) when I saw his pictures and realised it was my fate.” | | |
