|  The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ngozi Braide in a recent interview talked about her family, personal life and job. See excerpts below... Some people alleged that you didn’t get the PPRO job on merit, but through closeness to some men at the top hierarchy in the force. Is this true?You know the irony is when people gossip about you, you are usually the last to hear it. The gossip must have gone round but I never heard about it. I can tell that I got to this position through hard work. I wasn’t just handpicked. There was an interview and I emerged the best. If people are saying that, it’s their problem. I am not saying that people are not talking about me, but I am saying that I do not care. I don’t even see this as the peak of my career. There is more for me to accomplish. I see this position as a normal police assignment just as I had worked in other departments before getting here – I worked in Interpol, Special Fraud unit, Intelligence Unit and IG monitoring Unit before I came to the Public Relations Unit.
Have you ever told a lie to the public on a case to cover the police’s reputation?
Do you socialise?I do especially on Saturdays but I can’t go everywhere I would have loved to go because I no longer have my privacy. I have to choose where I go to. Each time I get into a place, people come around to ask me one thing or the other. But it is important to socialise and identify with the public. When I really want to relax, I love to go to the beach with my family and feel nature. Do you still go to the market to do shopping? I still do. I do bulk purchasing because I don’t have the luxury of going to the market often. I also do my cooking myself; even if it means doing it at 11pm after returning from work. The market women usually don’t recognise me, but at times some other people still meet me in the market and ask if I am Ngozi Braide and ask for my telephone number. That is why the job teaches us to be properly composed at all times. I have lost my privacy but it’s okay.
How do you cope with your numerous male admirers?I am coping well. I don’t have to bother about the ones on Facebook for now because I don’t have an account right now. Some impostors were found to be running a parallel account with my original account and I had to close it. But on my phone I get so many calls, many of which come from men who just call for nasty reasons. In fact, I get 50 per cent reasonable calls and 50 per cent nasty calls. Then physically at functions, some men really make me feel shy because of their gestures. I have, however, chosen never to act snobbishly, so I handle them maturely. |  Talented Yoruba movie producer Murphy Afolabi has survived another close encounter with death this year. The blood and gold movie star who survived a recent armed robbery attack was involved in a serious car accident few days ago on his way to Ilaro. According to reliable Nollywood insiders, the actor and an upcoming actress named Bimpe Amoke were involved in a car crash enroute Ilaro town in Osun State. The purpose of the trip was to invite a popular Ilaro Chief to Bimpe’s movie premiere that will be coming up on Sunday September 29, 2013. On the 12th of September 2013 around 12:30 in the afternoon, tragedy struck at Awowo road few minutes after Obada Oko in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The car they were driving had a front Tyre burst. We learnt the accident happened 20 minutes to Adesba International Hotel. The tyre burst which happened in motion forced the vehicle to somersault severally before landing in the bush.  If not for the quick intervention of good Samaritans around the area, the two might have died. Both of them were rushed to a nearby private hospital. Now residents of the village have formed a protective ring around the 18-year-old, refusing to hand her over to the police because they agreed her 'evil' father deserved to die. A local church leader, Pastor Lucas Kumi from the village of Rang in the Western Highlands, said theentire community would refuse to allow the girl to be subjected to any official investigation. 'The people and leaders in our area went and saw the headless body of the father after the girl reported the incident to them and explained why she had killed her father,' said Pastor Kumi. He told the Post Courier newspaper that the father, in his mid-40s, Molested his daughter when they were alone in their house after the mother and two other children from the family went to visit relatives for the night.The community have also agreed not to conduct any formal burial service for the father.' Crimes of molestation, murder, suspected witch killings and prostitution are rife throughout Papua New Guinea and as a desperate attempt to stop the lawlessness the government recently re-introduced the death penalty for serious offences. But at the weekend the Post Courier reported the results of an investigation into child prostitution, a report, it said, that will 'make you cringe.' Children aged between 13 and 16, said the paper,were selling sex in the nightclubs of the capital, Port Moresby, five premises being reported to be engaged in the under-age prostitution trade. Three non-government organisations have produced a report based on interviews with no less than 175 child sex workers. |  It happened that some soft-sell magazines before now had reported that, Genevieve Nnaji and her Benin Republic actress, Ella Martins friend were lesbians and partners in the act. Ella recently reacted to this, and reviewed to Gossippme blog that such a thing never happened between them. Her words; Genevieve is a very good friend of mine...we met way back in 2004 and we have been good friends since then. The story that we are lovers must have come from another female friend of hers. I am saying this because since 2004, there have been no such lesbian stories but suddenly it sprung up. Towards the end of last year, I came to Nigeria and I stayed with Genevieve. |  A 40-year-old man, Toyese Kehinde, who allegedly died in the cells of Benin Central Prisons in the early hours of 9 September, 2013, was buried by authorities of the prisons authorities without the consent of his family members. Kehinde, a musician and father of six children, was sentenced to two weeks imprisonment following his failure to pay the N5,000 fine option granted him by Egor Magistrate’s Court 1, in Benin City, southern Nigeria, over environmental Offense. The family allegedly got to know about his fate through a friend of the late Kehinde who informed them of his arrest and imprisonment. Following his failure to show up at home at the expiration of his jail term, his brother, Adewale Kehinde, and another friend approached the Prisons authority to demand for the release of their son, only to be told that the convict had died and had been buried. “We saw him last on the Friday of the environmental day. We later heard that he was arrested for flouting environmental restrictions and was sentenced to two weeks imprisonment as he was unable to pay the option of N5000 fine. When he failed to return after two days, we went to the prisons, only to be told that he died on 9 September and was buried. The man who spoke to us gave us a paper that he died.”They revealed. Adewale said it was disturbing that his brother died in the custody of the prisons officials and was buried without them telling the family members, even though there was a contact name and address given by the late Toyese while in their custody. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Edo State Prisons Headquarters, Suleman Aminu, claimed he has no knowledge of the death of the convict. The actor took to social network Twitter, where he jokingly mocked his ex. AY blasts his ex for still being alive after the regular lines she used to say to him when their romance was still at top gear. According to him, he expected her to be dead by now to prove to him that she truly couldn't live without him. "@AYCOMEDIAN: I'm so disappointed. My ex is still alive after all this years! She used 2 say she can't live without me'. So she was actually lying," he tweeted.
