|  Tony Crank, senior pastor of One Love Church in Eugene, Ore., thinks church sucks. A Eugene, Ore., pastor who thinks churches focus too much on sin and not enough on connecting people to God, is now trying to appeal to people who have been hurt by churches through a campaign called “Church Sucks” featuring shorter services and music by Katy Perry and Maroon 5 at his church, One Love. “Some churches have become the kind of place where you point the finger, and you condemn and rebuke and you’re really quick to do it, and so I think that is definitely lending itself to people not wanting anything to do with church and thinking church sucks!” Tony Crank, senior pastor at the One Love Church in Eugene told KVAL. Since September, One Love church has been mailing out their Church Sucks message to hundreds of homes in Lane County promising a different kind of church. Among the differences, according to the report, are shorter services lasting just over half an hour, the mixing of modern and contemporary music from artists like Maroon 5 and Katie Perry with worship music, and a leader who is a pastor, not a preacher. “I just like to have a conversation with everyone, just like I do at the coffee shop if we were talking one on one,” Crank told KVAL. “There is a perception that to come into church you’ve got to be perfect. Sometimes what that allows people to do is to kind of judge people that we might perceive to not be that kind of stereotypical perfect person. It turns a lot of people off to what the ultimate message of Christ is,” said Kyle Cunningham, One Love Church’s worship pastor. During his service on Sunday, Crank told his congregation, “don’t get your panties in a bunch” and talked about how his dog urinated on his mother during a recent visit to his home. He then connected that discussion to a message about the church being too quick to shame people for perceived sin. |  After two months of deep reflection, Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola this afternoon rendered an unreserved apology to Ndigbo over the July 24 dumping of 72 alleged destitute in Onitsha, Anambra State, by his administration. Speaking at the silver jubilee symposium of Igbo think tank Aka Ikenga at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos, in South-West Nigeria, Fashola declared that he has no problem with Igbos, saying that his action had been misunderstood. He said it was easier for him to ask Ben Akubueze, the Igbo financial expert serving as Lagos Commissioner for Budget, to represent him at the event but decided to come in person. Fashola disclosed that the highest number of cattle he got during the burial of his father early last month came from Ndigbo. |  A horrific incident took place at the university town of Nsukka, Enugu State left a young girl devastated after she was raped and her fiance shot in the head. It was reported that unidentified gunmen attacked this girl who was celebrating her birthday with her fiance. The incident reportedly occurred last Saturday when the girl’s boyfriend, identified as Sunday Ozioko, 30, took out his lover in his new Toyota Camry saloon car as part of the birthday celebration. The gunmen, who reportedly rode in a motorcycle, blocked the vehicle along Orba Road at 6.30p.m., took over the car and sped off through Orba Market to Obollo-Afor. They stopped at Alor-Ano CommunitySecondary School, raped the girl and shot her fiancé, who survived the attack, but was said to be in critical condition. A source revealed that when the two gunmen were through at 9:30p.m., they gave the victim N500, having been dropped off at Odolu in Kogi State. Realising that the girl could identify them later, the bandits allegedly made for the girl again, who was able to escape through a path that led her to a crusade ground, where Adonai Faith Assembly was having a vigil. The girl was said to have narrated her ordeal to the congregation, who she told her fiancee was still lying in his pool of blood. According to a source, the pastor of the church immediately swung into action, reached out to the police at Nsukka Urban, who quickly rushed him to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka. Efforts made to speak with the victim at his hospital private ward proved abortive as his relations barred press men from seeing him. Sunday Ozioko has, however, been transferred to UNTH, Enugu, for a surgical operation on his head. Enugu State Police spokesman, Ebere Amarizu, said police were on top of the situation and vowed that everything would be done to track down the bandits. |  According to reports, Operatives at the Homicide Section of the state Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Yaba, Lagos is currently looking the discovery of the decomposing body of a two-year-old child in a church premises in Egbeda area of Lagos. The pastor of the said church has currently been arrested for the murder of the child. It was gathered that the pastor was caught burying the dead child in a shallow grave within the church premises. Reports also have it that the pastor was allegedly caught by a neighbour who had gone out to ease himself at 2a.m., weekend, digging the grave. The neighbour, whose identity was not disclosed, was said to have alerted other residents. They were said to have reported their findings to policemen at Idimu Division, consequent upon which a team was drafted to the church. The policemen, as gathered, dug the shallow grave where they discovered and exhumed the body of a baby girl. The body was deposited at the mortuary.
