Celebrated film maker and actor Kunle Afolayan has dropped heart stopping posts on Facebook indicating that his workaholic lifestyle may eventually end his life.

Kunle who is working round the clock to meet the October 1 deadline of his highly anticipated film “October 1″ took to Facebook to drop some of his darkest thoughts.
‘My Obsession with filmmaking makes me think I may not live long, I forbid it though. I got back to Lagos yesternight (sic) very tired and sleepy after 42days of shoot, got home ate then went to bed. All I see throughout my sleep are the shots I took and those that I felt I should have done differently. Woke up this morning and all I have in my head is the deadline of the trailer release which in October 1, 2013, in about 11 days and the completion of the whole project. Yes, am very passionate about film making but I think being too obsessed is not healthy. What do you guys think?’
Kunle battles to meet a treacherous deadline too close for comfort with fears the release date may have to be shifted. Along side this all-consuming film production, Kunle also plays lead character in a new film ‘Dotun’ by ace film-maker Tunde Kelani.

3  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / ASUU strike: Resume now or get fired – Suswam threatens BSU lecturers on: 26-09-2013 12:43 PM

Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, Tuesday ordered striking lecturers of the Benue State University, BSU, Makurdi to return to class or get fired.

Lecturers of the institution are currently on strike in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, which commenced nationwide indefinite strike since June, 2013.
However, Suswam said the state government was not owing them, hence no need to have gone on strike in the first place. He directed the management of the university to reopen the institution with immediate effect or risk losing their job.
Suswam made this declaration at the Government House, Makurdi during an urgent meeting with the management of the university, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charity Angya.  The VC was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, administration, Prof. Nicholas Ada.
He said, “it is important that you as management come because you have refused to reopen the university. I am going to call the Governing Council and insist that they open the university, but the first thing I am going to do is that you will not have your salaries paid beginning from this month and any staff who refuses to come back to work would have his or her appointment terminated and nobody is going to collect salary arrears. And so, I needed you people to know before you hear it announced on the radio”.

“I am also aware that there was a court case that was instituted against the university by the state government over strike, and we are going to take that case up and make you face it because we have completely run out of patience and there is no basis while the children will continue to be on strike,” Suswam said.

6  Forum / The Buzz Central / Aki and Pawpaw: The Mighty Men of Nollywood on: 25-09-2013 04:45 PM

The sight of Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) and Osita Iheme (Paw Paw), no doubt makes many marvel at the way God does his things.  The case of these young men passes a strong message across, which is, whatever condition one finds oneself, God has reasons for it.
They are in their sizes known as Pinchomics, or better still, midgets but not dwarfs. Their nature makes them appear as kids, which they are really not. Their interpretation of movie scripts, tells how matured they are in age and mind. Chiedu Ikedieze (Aki) is said to be 36 years and Osita Iheme (Paw Paw) is 31.

There's no doubting the fact that their sizes which would have been considered by their parents and peers a disadvantage, before venturing into nollywood, has helped them stand out to become one of Africa's most respected actors.

If these men had looked normal in their age, nothing would have most definitely be special with their acting.

Truly, every situation one finds oneself is always for a reason. If only one can look deep inside to make out a positive story out of the ugly situation, the world will always be a better place for all.

8  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / ‘Two-headed’ baby has successful operation to remove second head in Afghanistan on: 25-09-2013 04:02 PM

Doctors in eastern Afghanistan have conducted a rare operation to remove a second skull growing on the head of a two-month-old baby girl.

Baby Asree Gul was discharged on Wednesday, after a successful operation in a Nangarhar hospital last week.

Doctors say the surgery was complicated as vital nerves and blood vessels were linked to the second skull.

They say it is the first successful surgery of its kind in eastern Afghanistan.  Asree Gul was born to a family of farmers in Chaparhar district. She has a healthy twin sister, and doctors believe her unusual condition was caused when a third baby failed to develop in the womb.

The family approached doctors after Asree Gul’s second skull made it difficult for her to sleep, and led to her being stigmatised within their village. Ahmad Obaid Mojadid, the doctor who carried out the operation, described it as “the first of its kind in Afghanistan’s east”.

“We don’t have very developed equipment,” he said, “but we are very happy to have conducted the operation successfully”. He said he worked on his tiny patient free of charge, as the $4,000-$6,000 (£6,500-£9,500) cost of the operation was beyond Asree Gul’s family’s means.

As one of the world’s poorest countries, Afghanistan’s hospitals often lack the drugs and equipment to carry out complicated medical procedures, and the health authorities in the country are particularly pleased with the success of baby Asree Gul’s surgery.
