1  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / UNBELIEVABLE: Thai Cook Fries Chicken With His BARE Hands, Doesn’t Get Burned on: 26-09-2013 07:39 PM

Kann “Superhands” Trichan got the cool nickname for his incredible ability of scooping pieces of chicken from burning-hot oil with his bare hands.

The 50-year-old Chiang Mai-based street cook can sink his fingers into 480 degrees hot grease without getting so much as a blister on his hands, and his amazing ability has won him international fame. People from all over the world come to his “Fried Chicken Iron Hands Man” food stall to see Kann use his hands to scoop out the chicken and he and his wife travel the globe showing off his gift. Superhands has no idea why he can do what he does, but he’s just happy it brings more and more customers for his business, every day.

Kann Trichan first discovered his unusual gift seven years ago, when he accidentally got hot oil splattered all over his body. While attending his giant woks, he noticed a squirrel eating a mango on a branch just above him. The squirrel dropped the big fruit right in the oil splattering it all over Kann’s body and head. A taxi took him home and when he got up the next day ready to go see a doctor, he took a look in the mirror only to see he had no burns. The redness was fading away and his skin was practically intact, so he just decided to go back to work, to the astonishment of his fellow street vendors.

From there on, his reputation grew, and everyone wanted to see the man who survived a shower of hot oil without a single burn. Trichan began experimenting and noticed he was able to use his bare hands to handle the pieces of chicken in hot oil so he decided to use it to attract customers. They were loving it and business was booming. Seven years later, Kann Trichan is still operating his food stall in front of the Chang Mai technical college, surrounded by curious tourists wanting to see his hands dipped in boiling grease.

Kann Trichan also holds the Guinness Record for picking 20 pieces of chicken from oil heated to 480 degrees Celsisus, in just one minute. He says he can feel the oil is hot when he dips his hands in it, but it simply leaves no mark. Scientists have yet to unravel this peculiar gift.

2  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Zamfara Women Protest Over Husband Scarcity on: 26-09-2013 07:36 PM

No fewer than 8,000 women on Thursday matched to the Zamfara Hisbah Commission, seeking the state government’s assistance to enable them to get married.

Led by the Chairperson of the Zamfara Widows Association, Hajiya Suwaiba Isa, and the patron, Alhaji Sa’idu Goshe, the women said they were not living a normal life and needed husbands to become whole.
“Many of us cannot afford two meals in a day because there are no men to support us,” they said.
The patron said the association had over 8,000 women, comprising 5,380 divorcees, 2,200 widows, 1,200 orphans and 80 others, whom he said, were looking for men to marry.
He said the women also needed assistance to purchase household items such as beds, mattresses and other basic necessities needed to move to their husbands’ houses.
Goshe appealed to the commission to assist the association in screening suitors for the women. He said the screening would determine the suitors’ health status, source of livelihood and ability to maintain a family.

4  Forum / Politics / Breaking News: Fashola apologises over deportation of Ndigbo on: 26-09-2013 07:30 PM

BABATUNDE RAJI FASHOLA, GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE.

After two months of deep reflection, Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola this afternoon rendered an unreserved apology to Ndigbo over the July 24 dumping of 72 alleged destitute in Onitsha, Anambra State, by his administration.

Speaking at the silver jubilee symposium of Igbo think tank Aka Ikenga at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos, in South-West Nigeria, Fashola declared that he has no problem with Igbos, saying that his action had been misunderstood.

He said it was easier for him to ask Ben Akubueze, the Igbo financial expert serving as Lagos Commissioner for Budget, to represent him at the event but decided to come in person. Fashola disclosed that the highest number of cattle he got during the burial of his father early last month came from Ndigbo. He made it clear that his relationship with Ndigbo “dates back to our ancestors and is built on tolerance and fidelity and I place value on that relationship.”

News Express reports that the deportation saga had angered Ndigbo and led to a temporary strain in relations between them and their Yoruba brothers.

5  Forum / Politics / Boko Haram Militants Open Fire In Church Killing Pastor, Two Kids on: 26-09-2013 07:15 PM

Suspected Boko Haram Islamists on Thursday opened fire in a church in Nigeria’s restive northeast, killing the pastor and his two children before setting fire to the building and fleeing, the military said.

Boko Haram, which has said it is fighting to create an Islamic state in mainly Muslim northern Nigeria, has repeatedly attacked churches in its four-year insurgency.

“Unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists attacked” the church in Yobe state early on Thursday, area military spokesman Eli Lazarus said in a statement. “During the attack, a pastor and his two children were killed,” he said.

The church “and two other houses in the community were burnt by the gunmen before fleeing the scene of the incident,” the statement further said.

The killings occurred in the town of Dorawa, some 30 kilometres (18 miles) from the site of a brutal school attack in July that saw dozens of students slaughtered.

Yobe was one of three northeastern states placed under a state of emergency in mid-May as the military launched a major offensive aimed at crushing Boko Haram.

Yobe has seen less violence than neighbouring Borno state, Boko Haram’s base, but the insurgents have carried out major attacks there.

Attacks on churches, including suicide bombings, were once a near weekly occurence but have declined in recent months.

Since the emergency measures were imposed Boko Haram has largely targeted civilians as well as vigilante groups which have formed to help the military.

The latest violence came after the emergence of a new video, in which a man who resembles Boko Haram’s leader mocked reports of his possible death.

Abubakar Shekau, declared a global terrorist by the United States, taunted the regional military spokesman who said he “may have been” fatally wounded in a clash on June 30.

While Shekau’s whereabouts and condition are unknown, the violence has continued, casting doubt on the success of the four-month-old military offensive.

The Boko Haram conflict was earlier this year estimated to have killed more than 3,600 people, including deaths caused by the security forces. The current toll is likely much higher. [AFP]
