|  Goal hero of final round of the World Cup qualification tie against Ethiopia at the Addis Ababa stadium, Emmanuel Emenike was mobbed by football fans at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos as he returned to his base in Turkey. Thanks to Emenike’s two goals in the Nigeria’s 2-1 triumph over Ethiopia last Sunday, October 13, Nigeria will compete in the second leg set to be held on November 16 in Calabar. He arrived at the airport at about 9 p.m. with his escort, Emenike was overwhelmed by his fans’ greetings. Despite the tight security, they surrounded him, and the footballer was forced to give out cash and club jerseys, while he made his way into the departure lounge. “I find joy playing for Nigeria and making this people happy. Though sometimes I get angry when things are not in order, but I love playing for this country at anytime,” “I am not Super Eagles’ messiah. My feat has been by the help of God, I am just trying to make myself and Nigerians happy. “Goals can come from anybody, so I count myself lucky when I do it for my country and I intend to keep the scoring form,” he said. Asked why he didn’t celebrate as expected after scoring both goals, he said: “I don’t believe celebrating in Addis Ababa is worth it because the job is not concluded yet. We played with a lot of pressure, we were intimidated in so many ways but I am happy we conquered our fears, “I will celebrate with Champagne after the win in Calabar. I will bathe the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials and the coaches with bottles of Champagne in Calabar,” he assured. |  A high court sitting in Port Harcourt this morning October 17th granted bail to four out of the twelve persons facing trail in the murder case of the four Uniport students. The four are: Omoikiri Aluu monarch: Alhaji Welewa, Okoghiroh Endurance, Ozioma Abajuo and Chigozie Evans Samuel. Presiding Judge, Justice Letan Nyordee granted them bail on grounds that their offense is not a capital offense and is bailable. They were granted bail to the tune of N2 million with two sureties and the court asked the sureties to submit their passports. The sureties mus also have landed property in Port Harcourt and must show means of livelihood and evidence of paying tax for two years. The other eight suspects were refused bail due to the murder charges against them. The court also admitted the photographs negatives and the Youtube CD of the incident tendered as exhibits in the matter. Dear Nigerian police, please also arrest and prosecute the men who murdered 2 innocent young men in Badagry in July. Thank you! The sooner we criminalize jungle justice, the better for us all! |   So Sahara Reporters was right after all. Yesterday an aide of aviation minister Stella Oduah called the report 'mere rumour' but the ministry of aviation have confirmed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority indeed bought two bulletproof BMW cars worth $1.6m (N255m) for Ms Oduah. Special Assistant (Media) to the aviation minister, Joe Obi, said the vehicles were purchased to protect the minister from some external threats. He said the vehicles were procured in response to the clear and imminent threat to the minister’s personal security and life following the bold steps she took to reposition the sector. Lol. I see. |  Like Davido’s Skelewu needs anymore attention than it has garnered in the last few months since its first release. First, Davido created a frenzy via a competition by offering $3,000 USD to anyone who could create the best dance video to the song – which after many fun attempts by various people including footballer Emmanuel Adebayor and Nigerian comedian AY, a winner was announced. Davido shared an image of the winner of the Skelewu dance competition , Kiddy via instagram last week. On the 15th of October, an official Skelewu video was released which we later learnt from Davido via tiwtter and an official press release that the released video which was shot by Sesan was infact an online leak which he, Davido never signed off. On the 16th of October, just less than 24hrs after the leak of the unapproved video, Davido has shot a totally new video under the directorship of Moe Musa in London under the production of Pheonix Global Media. What we are now expected to see is an epic adventure that has never been seen before. Abi Wilson-Obruche of Pheonix Global Media said, “It was a pleasure working with Davido. Given the short period of time we had to put the video together, it was interesting working on an adventurous concept and HKN proved to be a excellent partner in delivering the video”. Moe Musa and his team has pulled out all the stops to create a “28 Days Later” concept for the video to prove to the world that “Skelewu” has officially taken over. |  A landlord, Ma Guangdi has discovered $1 million in cash left under the bed in an apartment abandoned by a tenant in Dongguan, China. He was preparing to advertise for a new tenant for the apartment and was in the process of cleaning up when he discovered the cash, according to news.com.au. When the bed and mattress in the main bedroom were moved, four large packages tightly wrapped in tape were revealed. Opening one of the packages, bundles of notes in various denominations, from 5 to 50 Yuan were found. He decided to notify police, who seized the cash on suspicion it was gained by illegal means. |  A yet unknown number of members of the Kwara state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, died on Wednesday night as they scrambled for handouts distributed by former Governor of the state, Bukola Saraki. A source said no fewer than a dozen people were feared dead. Several others were injured in the incident which occurred at a venue popularly called PDP Charity House, which is near Mr. Saraki’s Ilorin residence. Tragedy struck as indigent party members tried to outsmart one another as Mr. Saraki and other philanthropists distributed the yearly sallah gifts. The dead and the injured were packed into ambulances and rushed to nearby hospitals. In a statement emailed to PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday night, the Publicity Secretary of Kwara PDP, Mas’ud Adebimpe, confirmed the incident and commiserated with the families of the victims. He, however, confirmed the death of only four PDP members , with many others injured. Mr. Adebimpe said, “The Peoples Democratic Party Kwara State chapter held its annual Sallah celebration at PDP Charity House where many party faithful were in attendance. “The event which is an annual activity of the party went on smoothly until the unfortunate incident of a stampede, which led to some people fainting. They were immediately rushed to a hospital few blocks away from the venue. “While some are currently responding positively to treatment, we however regret to announce that we lost four of our party members to the unfortunate development. “Our prayers go out to the families of the deceased and we pray for the quick recovery of those that are responding fast to treatment.” The yearly sallah gifts distribution by the Sarakis and the party have of late led to multiple deaths. On May 27, 2011, several people died at the Mandate House, Ilorin, as they scrambled for rice and other items. At least 11 others died in a similar fashion in November 2010, but only four deaths were also confirmed by the Kwara government at the time. | Prof Rufai says it is now unfair to ask her to speak on the strike. The immediate past Minister of Education, Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai, who was sacked from the federal cabinet last month, has joined the ongoing strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, which she desperately tried to break while in office. PREMIUM TIMES enquries at Bayero Universities, Kano, BUK where Mrs Rufai was teaching Education Curriculum before joining the Jigawa State cabinet in 2007 and later the federal cabinet in 2011, revealed that although the former minister had returned to the institution, she was yet to commence work as a result of the ongoing industrial action. Public Relations Officer of BUK, Mustapha Zaharaddeen, told this newspaper in a telephone interview on Wednesday that the former minister had joined her colleagues in the strike. “How can she teach? She has joined the strike,” Mr. Zaharaddeen said. “She has no choice. How can anybody teach? Don’t forget, ASUU National President is from BUK.” Mrs Rufai, the first female education minister from the northern part of Nigeria, was sacked from the federal cabinet alongside eight other ministers last September 11. The other sacked ministers were Olugbenga Ashiru (Foreign Affairs), Hadiza Mailaifa (Environment), Shamsudeen Usman (National Planning), Ama Pepple (Land, Housing and Urban Development), Ita Ewa (Science and Technology). Ministers of State for Defence, Power and Agriculture, Olusola Obada, Zainab Kuchi and Bukar Tijani, respectively were also relieved of their positions. |  A 31-year-old Florida woman is accused of posing as a teenager in order to have s*x with a 14-year-old boy. Naomi Dixon is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery involving a s*x act with a child, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal. The victim told Volusia County sheriff’s investigators that he met Dixon at a party in early September. Dixon allegedly claimed she was 17 years old, and the victim said he was 14. After the two met, they had s*x at her Deltona home eight times and stayed together regularly, the victim said. According to a sheriff’s report, the victim had a hard time leaving Dixon’s home. On several occasions when he tried to go home, she became upset, locked the door and even choked him. The victim claimed the woman carved his first initial onto her arm with a pocket knife. He told his parents about the relationship on Sept. 25 after growing tired of the woman trying to keep him at her house. When she was arrested Thursday, Dixon at first denied she had s*x with the boy. She also insisted she thought he was 18. She is being held at Volusia County Branch Jail on $50,000 bail. Predatory posers aren’t uncommon. In June 2012, a 24-year-old Massachusetts woman was arrested after posing as a teenage boy in order to have s*x with a 15-year-old West Virginia girl. According to court documents, Carissa Hads hid her br**sts by wearing a black brace, and used a prosthetic man-hood in an encounter with the minor. In 2011, an Ohio woman created a fake Facebook profile and posed as an “attention-grabbing teenage girl” in order to gather incriminating information about her estranged husband. Her covert operation actually ended up getting her husband arrested, after he reportedly installed a tracking device on his wife’s car.
