Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Kenyan Pastors want guns for personal security |
on: 7-11-2013 05:59 AM
| From “normal” robberies, murders and muggings to rampant segxwal violence, inter-ethnic skirmishes, cattle raids and “terrorist” attacks, insecurity is a critical national challenge in Kenya. Now some church leaders want to carry a gun. Last week a group clerics in the coastal city of Mombasa said they want the government to give them firearms to protect themselves. They spoke at the burial of a pastor killed by unknown gunmen. This week the Secretary General of the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) Rev Peter Karanja urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to improve security in the coastal region where suspected Muslim militants have attacked churches, but also advised priests to carry firearms if they felt threatened. Rev Karanja’s suggestion comes days after the Inspector General of Police suggested the government could consider putting more guns in the hands of civilians to improve security. “We are not saying that all pastors should carry arms but those who feel threatened should be able to get licensed arms,” Rev Karanja said. But the pastors have not offered any suggestion about whether the faithful should buy guns as well. Only a small number of private citizens in Kenya are licensed to carry a gun. It is a security measure many Kenyans struggling to get by cannot afford. All they can do is rely on the much maligned, ill-equipped and corrupt police officers to protect them. It is believed that rogue police officers collude with criminals, including hiring out their firearms, hence the high level of insecurity nationally. Yet every time, security chiefs and politicians keep urging members of the public to assist the police to curb runaway insecurity. Currently the government has announced “Nyumba Kumi” initiative, whereby citizens are urged to know at least ten people in their neighbourhood and to inform the police whenever they notice suspicious characters around. But whether the initiative will succeed is anybody’s guess. Kenyans generally dislike police officers as most conduct themselves unprofessionally and are, even now, used by the government to brutally repress dissent. The Kenya Police Service is regularly ranked as the most corrupt public institution in Kenya in various surveys. A recent study by the statutory Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) indicated that one in every three people interviewed during the survey on police services had been a victim of police malpractice — like assault, brutality, falsification of evidence, bribery and threat of imprisonment. And whereas police stations around the country are run down and lack basic facilities to provide effective security, and the officers on duty are usually inadequate, the best-trained and armed police officers in Kenya are those that guard the country’s political and bureaucratic elites, from the president down. Last year, Kenya’s second largest daily, Standard, reported that then President Mwai Kibaki had a 200-member police force, supplemented by another standby unit wherever he visits, complete with air evacuation and armoured protection. Then Prime Minister Raila Odinga followed, with round-the-clock security of about 60 officers. Police sources quoted by the paper revealed that 2,500 police officers out of the national total of 40,000, some of whom are in traffic department, guard ministers, members of parliament, politicians, and top government officials. Insiders said about 1,600 officers from the 30,000-member Administration Police complement them. If they get firearms, the priests will guarantee themselves some measure of personal security. But what about their flocks and the rest of the citizenry? IS WANDE COAL TOO PROUD OR NOT? VERY HOT SCANDAL NEWS HERE | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Enugu state First Lady denies being detained by husband, Gov Chime |
on: 6-11-2013 07:19 PM
| Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Tuesday night denied subjecting his wife, Mrs. Clara Chime, to house arrest and has vowed to protect her from being exposed to ridicule. Chime made this denial in the presence of some journalists, his wife and her elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe. Also present were the governor’s siblings, Mrs. May Oji and Dr. Jide Chime, as well as Mrs. Chime’s neuro-psychiatric doctor, Dr. Aham Agumuo, among a few others. At the interview session, the governor’s wife denied sending any petition to the National Human Rights Commission alleging unlawful detention by her husband. She also denied hiring the services of Mr. Femi Falana to seek her freedom from an alleged house arrest at the Governor’s Lodge, Enugu. Continue Falana had claimed in his letter to media houses and the Inspector-General of Police that he was engaged by the governor’s wife to seek her freedom from alleged house arrest. The state governor, however, stated that it was “so disturbing” for him to speak out publicly about his wife’s health challenges. He vowed to do all within his power, no matter the personal pains, to protect her from ridicule. “Well, my wife has some medical challenges and it would be very unkind for me to talk about her condition on the pages of newspapers. “I have done everything to protect her integrity and I’m not now going to expose her to ridicule because some people want to exploit her situation to drag me into a needless war of words,” Chime said. The church man who spotted them and took the video is a member of the Apostolic church who was doing his prayers in the bush. The Madzibaba man got curious when the two disappeared onto the ground. He got closer and saw the man pull down the woman’s pants and then his own trousers to just above the knees and the two started having s*x. A four-minute tape was also recorded of the prophet and the woman has become an instant hit in Mutare. Unconfirmed reports reaching us are that the Mutare Madzibaba one Simon Neruwana, a senior prophet with the Zion Apostolic Church of the bush sextape has committed suicide. Details are still sketchy but rumours reaching by iHarare News crew from Mutare are that the jilted husband of the cheating wife set a trap for Madzibaba. When the s**tape leaked Madzibaba took his rural areas in Bikita in order to evade the long lens of the media. One of the moles informed Source that Madzibaba Neruwana used a lot of money to buy The Manica Post copies last Friday in a bid to stop his neighbours from reading the bush act. “He tried to conceal the incident, but word had spread around the ghetto. He could not bear the humiliation and left for his rural home,” said a neighbour who requested anonymity. Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Girl Who Got Pregnant At 18, Emerges Best Graduating Student At 25 |
on: 5-11-2013 07:51 AM
| Seven years after an unwanted pregnancy forced her to drop out of the University of Ilorin, Aishat Farooq emerged the best graduating student of the Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State. In 2006, while she was in her third year, Aishat got pregnant for a fellow student. Although she wanted to keep studying, she dropped out. Today, Aishat has a different story to tell. On Saturday, she stood tall among her peers at the 5th convocation ceremony of Bells University, Ota, Ogun State, where she emerged the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.93. “The rebel in me won,” she declared while giving the valedictory address on behalf of the 208 graduating students of the university. “I hope my story will inspire at least one person to change his or her circumstance. I was pregnant at 18 and by 19 I was already a mother. I had disappointed my father who believed so much in me. He had such big dreams for me and feared the dreams would become unfulfilled,” she added. Breaking the news of the pregnancy to her father, who was at the time based in the northern part of the country, was not easy. Aishat’s mother, Fatima, who stayed in Lagos with the family, did not break the “sad news” to the man until the lady was almost due. The mum feared her husband would be too angry. Fatima narrated to our correspondent, “Looking back, we knew her to be very brilliant. But all of a sudden she got pregnant. Though her father and I were always discussing on the telephone, I hid it from him. Whenever he said he would be coming to Lagos to visit us, I would quickly chip it in that I would like to be the one to visit. So, I ensured I was the one always visiting him. “That was how I managed the situation until the pregnancy was eight months. But even when we broke the news to him, he felt really bad. Although there was nothing he could do, he couldn’t go out for three days.” Aishat studied Business Administration with specialisation in Human Resources Management, and received the Vice-Chancellor’s Prize for the Overall Best Graduating Student with a cash reward of N50,000 and a plaque. She also won the College of Management Sciences Prize and Department of Business Administration Prize for the Best Graduating Student. CLICK HERE FOR SHOCKING NEWS VERY HOT SCANDAL NEWS HERE | | |

| ASUU STRIKE: We Will Deliver President’s Message to Our Members – FaggeAfter the end of the marathon meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Monday, which lasted for about 13 hours, the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said they would now go and brief their members on the details of the discussions. The Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, told the reporters in the early hours of November 5, 2013, Tuesday, at the State House that the leaders would take the President’s message back to their members. Dr. Fagge, who wore broad smiles afar emerging from the meeting venue at about 3.35 a.m. did not say what the message was when he spoke with the correspondents. “Well we have had lengthy meeting with Mr. President, rubbing minds on how best to address the problem of University education in this country. “And we now have a message from Mr. President we are going to take to our members. And we are expecting that our members will respond appropriately to the message of Mr. President.” On whether the lecturers are going back to the classroom, he said: “That is up to our members.” Asked what the message was, he said: “I can’t tell you. It's not for you. It is for our members.” If impressed with the message, he said: “Don’t put words into my mouth. Our members will determine that.” The Labour Minister, Emeka Wogu, who also spoke with the press, just said what was discussed did not go beyond the 2009 agreement. CHAIII!!! Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Femi Falana Represents "Imprisoned" Enugu First Lady, Calls Immediate Release |
on: 4-11-2013 06:12 PM
| Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has asked the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. MD Abubakar, to ensure the immediate release from unlawful detention of Mrs. Clara Chime, the First Lady of Enugu State who is being held hostage at Government House Enugu by Governor Sullivan Chime, or be dragged to court. In a letter dated November 1, 2013, Mr. Falana, representing Mrs. Chime, pointed out that his client has been kept incommunicado in solitary confinement for over four months on the directives of Governor Chime. “Thus our client’s fundamental rights to the dignity of her person, personal liberty, fair hearing, private and family life and freedom of movement guaranteed by the Constitution and the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 have been violated without any legal justification. “Although our client’s dehumanizing detention conditions have had deleterious effects on her psychological state as well as her mental and physical health she has been denied access to her doctors by her abductors,” the petition said. “It is particularly disturbing to note that some of the police and state security service personnel assigned to secure the safety of the Enugu State governor, his wife and other family members have aided and abetted Mr. Chime in subjecting our client to egregious infringements of her aforesaid fundamental rights,” the letter said. Femi Falana admitted that Governor Chime is currently immune from prosecution under the Constitution. However, the police and state security service officials involved in the illegal arrest and detention of Mrs. Chime ought to be sanctioned under the relevant laws. It would be recalled that in a letter on October 28, Mrs. Chime complained that Governor Chime had placed her under house arrest, and begged human rights bodies to come to her rescue.
