Rod Temperton, the British songwriter behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Rock With You, has died aged 66.

Jon Platt, the chairman of music publisher Warner/Chappell said Temperton died in London last week following “a brief aggressive battle with cancer”.

“His family is devastated and request total privacy at this, the saddest of sad times,” Platt added.

Temperton, whose other credits include Boogie Nights, Off the Wall, Give Me the Night, Sweet Freedom and Always and Forever, is one of the most important songwriters and composers in contemporary pop.

Former Minister of Environment, Mrs. Laurentia Mallam and her husband, Mr. Pius Mallam who were kidnapped by armed persons on Monday night in Kaduna State have been freed by their captors.

Vanguard gathered Wednesday night that the former minister and her hubby regained freedom around 9pm.

A competent source close to the family confirmed to Vanguard that they were freed after a N10 million ransom was paid.
The source quoted the former minister as saying that the kidnappers were young Fulani men.
According to the source, the former minister and her husband have since returned to their home in Abuja.
The family reportedly paid an undisclosed sum for ransom before the kidnappers set the aged couple free after series of bargaining over the ransom.

The death has been announced of former Commissioner for Land, Survey and Housing during the administration of Chief Lucky Igbinedion in Edo State, Prince Efosa Akenzua.
Prince Akenzua died after a brief illness.

His first son, Prince Oghosa Akenzua, confirmed the death of the former commissioner when Edo governor-elect, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, paid the family a condolence visit.

He thanked Obaseki for leading a high powered delegation to commiserate with the family on the ex-commissioner’s death.

Obaseki described Prince Akenzua’s death as a huge loss to the state.

He asked God to give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 27-year-old man, Idowu Izebokhale, in an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly dressing as a woman in public.

Izebokhale, a hairdresser of Omiyale Railway Quarters, Ibadan, was in court for alleged acting and dressing as ladies in public place.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Salewa Hammed, told the court that Izebokhale on September 23 at about 2AM at Molete Area, Ibadan, acted indecently in public by wearing ladies clothes and apparels.

Hammed said Izebokhale was seen in public place at the middle of the night wearing brazier, wig, earrings and dressed as a lady waiting for who would pick him.

He said the offence contravened Section 231 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo state 2000, which on conviction attracts two years imprisonment.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Abiona Richard, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N150,000 with one surety in like sum.

Richard said the surety must be a blood-relation with tax clearance, and adjourned the case till December 19 for hearing.

Singer Toni Braxton is currently in an Atlanta hospital in serious condition. And her rumored boyfriend Birdman has rushed to be by her side.

According to TMZ, Toni Braxton's hospitalization stems from her battle with lupus. She has been hospitalized for 4 days. It's unclear if she checked herself in or if she was transported by ambulance.

When Birdman got the news, we're told he hopped on a jet from Texas -- where he was on the road with Jacquees -- to be with her.

Toni and Birdman started dating seriously earlier this year. 

She went public with her lupus diagnosis in 2010.

Mother of 2 and business entrepreneur Kim Kardashian suffered a huge scare last night when she was attacked by 2 armed men wearing masks as she relaxed on her bed wearing just a robe. The mother of 2 said she feared she would be raped when she saw the 2 men approach her.
According to TMZ reports:

Kim Kardashian was ordered out of bed by masked men she initially thought were going to rape her.

Our sources say ... Kim was lying in bed with only her robe on when she heard boots pounding up the stairs of her 2 story apartment.
 
We're told Kim saw at least one masked man and another wearing a police hat through a sliding glass door. She knew something was amiss, so she rolled off the bed and tried dialing her bodyguard on her cell phone.

Before she could finish dialing one of the men yanked the phone out of her hands. They zip tied her hands with plastic handcuffs and duct taped her to make it more secure. We're told one of the men grabbed her by the ankles ... Kim told cops at that point she believed she was about to be raped.

The robbers duct taped her ankles, picked her up and put her in the bathtub. She then started screaming ... begging them not to kill her because she had babies. She went on to say she had money and they could take whatever they wanted.

Kim told cops the robbers did not know English and only spoke French. The only thing she understood ... the men kept saying, "ring, ring." Kim knew what they were after -- the new ring she got from Kanye. She told them where it was in the apartment, but that was not the end.

Kim continued to beg and cry, and at that point the robbers duct taped her mouth shut. 

We're told a friend of Kim's -- Simone -- was also in the apartment ... sleeping in the downstairs bedroom. Simone heard the commotion and locked herself in the bathroom and called Pascal, the bodyguard, and Kourtney ... telling them to hurry back because something was terribly wrong.

Pascal got back to the apartment 2 minutes after the robbers left.

The entire incident took around 6 minutes.

An overnight attack by gunmen on a police post in central Benue State has left at least four police officers dead.

Witnesses told PREMIUM TIMES the yet-to-be-identified gunmen stormed the police divisional headquarters in Igumale, the headquarters of Ado Local Government Area, shortly after midnight on October 2, killing all the four officers on duty.

The attackers also carted away the guns and ammunition of the officers.

Ajibo Ochulayi, a community leader in the agrarian town, told PREMIUM TIMES that while two officers died on the spot, two others later passed on in a medical centre in Makurdi, the state capital.

“It is sad that the gunmen were able to overpower the policemen and killed all the four of them with little resistance,” Mr. Ochulayi said.

He said the state’s police commissioner, Bashir Makama, visited the scene on Sunday afternoon with a few mobile police officers to assess the aftermath.

Police have only launched a manhunt for the assailants, and no one has been identified on the motive of the attack. PREMIUM TIMES also added that their efforts to reach the police spokespersons for the latest on the attack were unsuccessful.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command on Friday apprehended a young lady, her boyfriend and two others for stealing an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card which belonged to one Musa Alli and withdrew over N300, 000 from the account.

The lady, Bamigboye Imoleayo, 24, was arrested by the operatives at a club house (name withheld) in Surulere area of Lagos over the crime before arresting three other accomplices, including her boyfriend, Adeyinka Ayodele the same day at Itori, Ogun State.

The victim, who reported the case at the RRS’ office in Alausa, said that he met the suspect at a club in Surulere last week Friday.


He added that the lady had earlier stolen his ATM before memorizing his Personal Identification Number (PIN) during online transfer of funds into his friend’s account.

“I thought I had misplaced the card not knowing that the lady had stolen it and thereafter glimpsed at the PIN for withdrawal”, he noted.

He said that he was shocked on Saturday afternoon when he received alerts amounting to N90, 000 withdrawals.

He explained: “while I was still contemplating on how to deal with the issue, I got another debit alert for buying two Infinix phones totaling N84, 000. I was confused and shocked. I didn’t know what action to take on a Saturday evening.

On Sunday, there was another debit. I couldn’t pin the crime to the lady I met at the club. I lodged a
complaint on Monday morning at my bank and I was told that the withdrawals and shopping were legitimately made by me.

“I reported the incident at the RRS’ office on Monday after informing my bank. My emphasis to the police were the withdrawals and shopping totaling N300, 000. It was unbelievable for me when I was face to face with the suspect, the lady I met at the club and she explained everything,” he stated.

Sources at the RRS’ headquarters disclosed that after the arrest, the lady, Bamigboye Imoleayo, owned up during interrogations that she pocketed the victim’s ATM card when the owner slept off during their conversation at night at the club.

“I managed to steal the card when Musa (victim) dozed off during our conversations. Initially, I had spied on and crammed his PIN when he was sending money to his colleague via mobile app.

“I committed this offence because I was so desperate to re-stock my shop at Wasimi in Ogun State, and also to take care of my only daughter. I never had a rethink while committing the crime. Although, I regretted my action now”, she stated.

She further narrated how she in company of her lover withdrew and expended funds from the ATM.

She explained, “after I spied on his PIN during a particular banking transaction on his phone, I intended to only withdraw N20, 000 out of his bank account and then destroy the card. However, when I withdrew the money, and checked the account balance, I was shocked to see his balance.

Afterwards, I withdrew another N70,000 again making N90,000 that day.

“Then, the following day, I called my boyfriend, who instructed me not to destroy the card, but that I should come straight to Itori, Ogun State, where he resides. On getting to him, he called two of his friends, Abimbola Akintanna and Owolabi Bamidele, to use the ATM at any nearest bank”.

He added that they took the card to a shopping mall in Abeokuta where they bought phones and clothes.

“The following day, we went straight to Abeokuta to use the card. We thought by going this far nobody could trace us. We bought two android phones for N84, 000 at a phone store.

“We proceeded to a boutique where four of us bought clothes worth N126, 000. I recharged my phone with another N2, 500 worth of recharge card. The money spent from the account was over N300, 000.00”, she revealed.

Two Android phones, 8 pairs of trousers and shirts were recovered from the suspects during a thorough search of their residents.

Confirming the arrest, the image maker of Lagos State Police Command, Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus, urged members of public to always protect their PIN during banking transaction at any point in time.

The suspect and exhibits recovered have been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for prosecution.

After 48 hours and 10 minutes, Gandoki now holds the bragging right as a world record holder, beating the current record that stands at 40 hours and 8 minutes.
