21  Forum / The Buzz Central / Boko Haram Kidnapped & Forced Christian Lady To Convert To Islam In Nigeria on: 17-11-2013 09:23 PM
REUTERS – In the gloom of a hilltop cave in Nigeria where she was held captive, Hajja had a knife pressed to her throat by a man who gave her a choice – convert to Islam or die.

Two gunmen from Boko Haram had seized the Christian teenager in July as she picked corn near her village in the Gwoza hills, a remote part of northeastern Nigeria where a six-month-old government offensive is struggling to contain an insurgency by the al Qaeda-linked Islamist group.

In a new development, Boko Haram is abducting Christian women whom it converts to Islam on pain of death and then forces into “marriage” with fighters – a tactic that recalls Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army in the jungles of Uganda.

The three months Hajja spent as the slave of a 14-strong guerrilla unit, cooking and cleaning for them before she escaped, give a rare glimpse into how the Islamists have changed tack in the face of Nigerian military pressure.

“I can’t sleep when I think of being there,” the 19-year-old told Reuters, recounting forced mountain marches, rebel intelligence gathering – and watching her captors slit the throats of prisoners Hajja had helped lure into a trap.

Nigerian security officials say the Islamists have pulled back after army assaults since May on their bases on the semi-desert plain and are now sheltering in the Mandara mountains, along the Cameroon border around the city of Gwoza. From the hills they have been launching increasingly deadly attacks.

The rugged mountain terrain – as fellow al Qaeda allies found in Afghanistan – has proven an advantageous base for a movement that once styled itself the “Nigerian Taliban” and sees all non-Muslims as infidels who must convert or be killed.

The United States designated Boko Haram a terrorist group on Wednesday. Western governments are increasingly concerned about the wider threat posed by the group, which wants to create an Islamic state in a religiously mixed country of 170 million and which has ties with al Qaeda’s north African wing.

Hajja’s account of how Boko Haram has adapted and survived in recent months underlines the difficulties governments in the region face. The spread of the threat was underscored by the kidnap on Thursday of a French priest in Cameroon, an attack France believes may have involved Boko Haram.

The following day, Nigerian troops raided a base for the group in the Gwoza hills. The army said it killed 29 Boko Haram fighters and was “closing in” on the rebels.

The group, whose name broadly translates as “Western education is sinful”, has killed thousands during a four-year insurgency against the Nigerian state, targeting the police and armed forces as well as politicians and then turning on Christians in the predominantly Muslim north of the country.

The military offensive launched in mid-May, and the fact that large numbers of civilian vigilantes have supported it, has triggered a fierce backlash against local people by Boko Haram. The militants have killed hundreds in the past few weeks, including in massacres of school children.

The Islamists dragged Hajja along rocky mountain paths and slept in caves in the hills, a landscape unfamiliar to most Nigerian soldiers, recruited from the plains.

She ceremonially converted to Islam, cooked for the men, carried ammunition during an attack on a police outpost and was about to be married to one of the insurgents before she managed to engineer a dramatic escape. She says she was not molested.

“If I cried, they beat me. If I spoke, they beat me. They told me I must become a Muslim but I refused again and again,” Hajja told Reuters in an interview. Her family name is withheld to protect relatives still living in the Gwoza area.

“They were about to slaughter me and one of them begged me not to resist and just before I had my throat slit I relented. They put a veil on me and made me read from the Koran,” she said in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, where she is now living.

At least a dozen teenagers like her remain in captivity, Michael Yohanna, a councilor in Gwoza’s local government told Reuters. Some have married commanders, recalling Kony’s LRA, which abducted thousands of “wives” in a 20-year war in Uganda before a truce in 1986. Kony remains a fugitive.

A man called Ibrahim Tada Nglayike led the group Hajja was with. On one mission, Hajja was sent to stand in a field near a village to attract the attention of civilians working with the army. When five men approached her, they were ambushed.

“They took them back to a cave and tied them up. They cut their throats, one at a time,” Hajja said. “I thought my heart would burst out of my chest, because I was the bait.”

Among those who did the killing was the Muslim wife of the leader Nglayike, the only other woman in the band of fighters.

Reuters verified Hajja’s account of having been abducted with independent figures in the region. Boko Haram shuns the media and none of its members could be contacted for comment.

Hajja says the long-bearded insurgents lived a basic lifestyle, eating corn, millet and occasionally meat from animals they stole and which she slaughtered.

The group, armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols stolen from police they killed, moved every day around the hills to avoid being tracked by the army and slept in the caves to shelter from the cold and for protection against air assaults.

“They didn’t use phones but they had a radio,” Hajja said.

“They would listen to BBC Hausa or Voice of America and jump and shout if they heard about Boko Haram attacks.

23  Forum / The Buzz Central / Actress Adaora Ukoh Speaks on Marriage Wahala & Séx Movies on: 17-11-2013 01:27 PM

The big and busty actress got married very secretly several months ago, but it seems she is not finding the core of marital life easy. Below is what Adaora Ukoh told a reporter about her experiences...

"Well, I just noticed that it’s really not an easy world. When I look at the Omotolas that have kept theirs, I give them kudos. It’s really not easy because men come with a lot of drama and they want to hold it down for you at that point when they’ve entered. And sometime it looks like you are trying to fight it out."

The kind of séx roles you play these days?

Quote
"Séx role is not my thing. When you look at every movie, there is usually a theme. Like the movie I’m shooting currently, there is séx scene but the producer decided to shoot it like a silhouette, where you light the wall. You will be doing all the séx scenes but it will be showing on the wall. Not that if he decides to shoot the séx path straight, he cannot, but as long as they know how to move with the cameras, I will do it because it’s an integral path of the movie. But it’s not me to go shoot a movie that has séx as the theme. Not that I don’t do romance, I do romance in movies but I might not do outright showing the séx scene that probably could look vulgar."

24  Forum / The Buzz Central / The Mess Going On In Night Clubs In Lagos on: 17-11-2013 01:26 PM

Night Club nigeria 2Activities at night clubs and bars in some parts of Lagos State have positive and negative influences. Lagos does not lag behind when it comes to grandiose shows. Some people would even prefer to drum home this fact by using the slogan, ‘Eko for show’, a catchphrase for Lagos’ high-flying status.
"At night clubs, one can socialise and get useful business connections. On the negative, they can promote extreme indulgence in alcoholism and segxwal escapades. There is a tendency for one to consume more alcoholic drinks than required. Commercial sex workers also loiter around such places. Someone who lacks self control may be tempted to want to have a feel of anyone of them."

Punch's GBENGA ADENIJI reports that this love for spectacle is noticeable in the merriment which club houses in the state dish out from time to time. The state government once said residents of the state spend over N1bn on parties and entertainment every month.

Every week, there is usually a place for fun seekers to hang out in various parts of the metropolis. In fact, there are now night clubs in some residential areas. It is not unusual these days to see fun spots springing up where residential buildings were once erected. From Ikeja, Surulere, Oshodi, Akowonjo, Iyana Ipaja, Abule Egba, Ogba to Ikorodu and other areas in the state, Friday is usually a special day.

On this day, music blares from every nook and cranny till dawn. The fun, which starts midweek in some parts, reaches a crescendo on Friday. Some singers, especially those in the hip hop and juju genres, have even made special releases on the importance of Friday in the start of a weekend of merry-making.

As it rocks in Lagos, the same happens in Port Harcourt, Abuja and other notable cities in the country. Drinks of all types usually accompany the entertainment. A recent data has shown Nigeria as one of the leading countries with high champagne consumption.

A dispatch rider, Henry Smith, who was sighted at a night club in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos State, said siting relaxation centres within residential areas have some merits and demerits.

He said apart from noise pollution and security threat which they could pose to such areas, they provide on-the-move relaxation to residents. Smith further said the level of noise from worship centres could sometimes be more than what emanates from night clubs.

He said, "These club houses pay all manner of taxes to local governments in their domains. They employ security men to ensure orderliness. Some people even feel safe when they get to a place and see a night club there. The people trooping into the club and the noise coming out from there often light up the environment. Nigeria is a place where people work hard to survive. You can imagine what the situation will be if there are no places to unwind."

He added that fun spots could attract people of questionable characters into a neighbourhood thereby endangering the safety of occupants.

A worker with an international courier company, Rotimi Oyeneyin, described night clubs as venues for extreme fun seekers to unwind.

He said even though there was nothing bad in hanging out in a club after a hard day’s job, it could be extreme when one stayed throughout the night. Oyeneyin added that night clubs could encourage alcoholism and segxwal recklessness.

He also said besides the huge noise pollution from night clubs, there had been cases of auto crashes arising from drunkenness of people coming from such places.

Oyeneyin said, "But one cannot rule out the fact that night clubs are best places to relax after working so hard. Apart from relaxing, one can meet individuals who can lead one to meaningful business deals."

A banker, who lives on Jonathan Coker in New Oko-Oba, Lagos, Princewill George, expressed displeasure over the building of night clubs within residential areas. According to him, such club houses only harbour criminals whose activities make residents uncomfortable.

George said, "I know what I experience every night with the noise pollution from night clubs in my area. On weekends, males and females besiege the clubs to enjoy. Cars are often parked haphazardly on the road, with music playing at a deafening level."

Also, a resident in Oke-Ira, Ogba, whose house is near a night club, Mr. Alphonsus Edward, said he hardly sleeps every Friday. He stated that he struggles to cope with a noise from the speakers of the club and that of a record seller few metres away from his house.

Edward said, "I know that listening to music is one of the ways customers in the club enjoy themselves. But I do not think it is necessary for the music to filter to those who are outside the club. I wonder how those inside the club enjoy the noise because it even disturbs those outside."

If you frequent night clubs, make sure you watch you back, as there are some guys who are out to "loot"?

29  Forum / The Buzz Central / Limpopo Master Goes Back To Old Love, Ebube Nwagbo After Marriage Breakdown? on: 13-11-2013 10:23 PM
With Limpopo crooner,KCee blow-out fight and breaking up with his wife, Ijeoma Okonkwo, the door seems to be opened again in the heart of the sultry actress, Ebube Nwagbo, as we learnt, he has crawled back to her three years after their separation.

KCee and Ebube ended their relationship in 2010 when he got married to Ijeoma, but it never really seems like they’re actually separated.

And after KCee split from Ijeoma recently, it seems possible that KCee and Ebube could come together once again.

However, a source close to the unapologetic singer tells Nigeriafilms.com exclusively that this is another opportunity for Ebube in this lifetime,” the source says about KCee and Ebube reunion. “It is possible and they are together again”

The source suggests that the lover’s breakup in 2010 was so bad and rough but they have come back together again. “He taught her what not to look for in a guy,” the source adds. “And for that she’s thankful.” What a turnaround for Ebube.

Which, no matter how sad, is probably a good thing for the both of them. They failed to make it work so last time, finally one of them took the hint.

KCee and Ijeoma may not even be 100 percent over . “Ijeoma thinks it’s one big misunderstanding and she’s sure that they’ll be back on good terms once all this drama is over,” another source told Nigeriafilms exclusively.
So what do you think, Readers? what do you think ab out this reunion?
