Popular Yoruba comic actor, Olaniyi Afonja, a.k.a. Sanyeri, has been accused of obtaining millions of naira from some of his fans in a dishonest way through his wedding ceremony on December 1, 2013, Sunday.
The comic actor has reportedly sold some poor-quality ankara fabrics known as ‘aso ebi’, for N20,000. The market price for the clothing material he had allegedly offered was put at N2,500.
Sanyeri has reportedly ordered that the ‘aso ebi’ would serve as gate pass to his wedding, which was held at Anchor Event Centre, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
Those willing to attend the wedding were asked to pay directly into the actor’s account before getting their fabric material. This made it impossible for them to reject or return poor-quality ankara after making the payment.
Therefore, those at the wedding were disappointed at what they saw at the event, because there was no justification for paying such an amount to get the ‘aso ebi’.
Attempts made by an our online source to contact Sanyeri for comments proved abortive as, his phone number remained switched off.
The comic actor and his wife had been living together for eight years before their marriage on December 1, 2013, Sunday. They have two children together

The Miss Nigeria Ghana 2013 beauty pageant came to end this morning when Amadi Jennifer Enuolare emerged as the new queen. Jennifer who is an orphan was able to beat the other 35 contestants in a fierce competition.

The new Miss Nigeria Ghana is from Rivers State, Nigeria and currently a student of Knutsford University College, East Legon, Accra, Ghana. She is studying Human Resource Management and she loves cooking, listening to music and making friends. She entered into the Miss Nigeria Ghana 2013 to make a difference and represented Delta state.

The first Miss Nigeria Ghana, Amaka Okosieme was present and did the honors of transferring the crown to the new successor who will continue to pursue the bosom cancer awareness campaign in the ten regions of Ghana.

The theme for the event was ‘Beauty Made in Nigeria’, and indeed Nigerian young women schooling in Ghana were at their best, represent each of the 36 states of Nigeria. Their cultural display, talent display and test questions and answers were employed by the Judges to determine the best and select the right person for the Miss Nigeria Ghana 2013.

Prominent among the Judges was Nita J, Nollywood movie star, and Louisa Bua, Ghana’s fast rising model. Nigeria’s prominent photographer and writer Chuks Ineh was official photographer of the Miss Nigeria Ghana beauty pageant.
The new Miss Nigeria Ghana was given gifts from Omatek computers, and a wrist watch from Swiss Watch, she was also presented with a car key from the Nigeria High commissioner representative. Her tenure will last for one year during which a lot of activities are required of her as she tours Ghana and media houses to create campaign for bosom cancer awareness.

Oba Adebiyi Adesida of Akure Kingdom is dead. He died in his place early hours of this morning after a brief illness. The Oba ascended the throne on the 12th of August, 2010 after he was recalled from London shortly after the former Oba was dethroned after he physically abused his wife. The late Oba attended the wedding ceremony of his son two weekends ago in Lagos before passing on this morning. May his soul rest in peace.

AMID voter apathy and protests that greeted the November 16 governorship election and the supplementary election in Anambra State, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Willie Obiano, has been declared winner.
The agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP) governorship candidates in the Anambra State governorship election were conspicuously absent at the supplementary election held in 209 polling units across 16 local government areas, yesterday.
This is just as the poll was greeted by poor voter turnout in most areas.
In most areas where the elections took place, low voters turnout was apparent though electoral materials from the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) arrived relatively early unlike what obtained last Saturday, whereby late arrival of material threatened the polls in some polling units.


 
However, the trio of Senator Chris Ngige of the APC; Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah of the Labour Party and Comrade Tony Nwoye of the PDP have described the low turnout as a justification of their calls for the cancellation of the election.
Though the three parties had stated that they would not participate in the election, some of their members were seen around polling units. At the Polling Unit 016, Igweamaka Primary School, Aguluzoigbo, members of the APC including the chairman of the party in the local government, who refused to disclose his name, said that they were there to monitor the process not to participate while at the Polling Unit 006 and 007, Chukwurah Primary School, Abatete, agents of the PDP and the LP were seen participating in the election.
In Idemili North Local Government Area, which has the highest number of registered voters, turnout at many polling units reflected that only 11 to 17 voters had showed up to vote.
Similarly, in one of the polling units at Oyi Local Government, Sunday Tribune gathered that nine voters showed up to vote out of about 3,000 registered voters, with people in Onitsha North and Onitsha South council areas people opening their shops and going about their respective businesses.
Reacting to the poor turnout Senator Ngige told reporters that it was an indication that the electorate has lost hope in the electoral process, adding that the electorate couldn’t have turned up to vote in view of the charade of November 16, 2013.
In the same vein, Media Aide to Dr. Ubah, Mr. Afam Ilouno told newsmen that “you do not need anything more to convince INEC and Nigerians that Anambra people have been raped. They shown that they have no confidence in what is going on and it is expected that the electoral commission should learn a lesson by starting all over again.”

Etisalat Nigeria has reacted to Julius Agwu’s seven-day ultimatum that it should compensate him with the sum of N100 million or risk legal action over “alleged unlawful and unjustified blocking and/or swapping” of his Etisalat GSM phone number 08189555555.

In an email sent to PM News, Etisalat’s Public Relations Manager, Chineze Amanfo, stated that contrary to reports making the rounds, a SIM swap was performed on the said line after the requester provided the company’s customer care executives with necessary SIM replacement information, in accordance with laid down NCC regulations and process for SIM swap.

“Subsequently, upon a report made at our office by Mr. Agwu that he is the owner of the line and did not authorize anyone to swap it, our customer care executives promptly restored the line as well as the airtime lost during the swap process.

“Etisalat Nigeria is currently carrying out an internal investigation into the SIM swap incident and will refer the matter to the appropriate agencies for further investigation as may be necessary.

“We wish to assure the general public that Etisalat Nigeria is committed to the protection of the rights of its subscribers and to continue to provide value adding services to its customers.

“We will spare no effort to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged unauthorized SIM swap while encouraging our customers and the general public to protect their personal information at all times,” she stated.

Agwu had demanded compensation through his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, due to what he termed loss of business opportunities and the inconvenience experienced by him during the period.

Keyamo had in a letter to the company dated 26 November, 2013 stated that “in the event that you fail, refuse or neglect to accede to our above stated demand within seven (7) days from the receipt of this letter, we shall be compelled to set in motion against you, all legal machineries necessary to obtain legal remedy for our client.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday arraigned Rev. Kim David Pam before Justice Yargate B. Nimpar of the Plateau State High Court on a 9-count charge bordering on stealing, fraudulent misappropriation and criminal breach of trust.
The accused is said to have abused his position as Chairman of Goodliving Multi-purpose Cooperative Society and the sole signatory of the accounts domiciled in First Bank Nigeria Plc and Zenith Bank Nigeria Plc. Rev Pam pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Count 5 of the charge reads, “that you Reverend David Kim Pam between the 23rd day of April 2012 and the 11th day of May 2012 through one James Pam misappropriated the sum of Eleven Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Eight Thousand, Five Hundred Naira (11,358,500.00) being money belonging to Goodliving Multi Purpose Cooperative Society domiciled at First Bank Nigeria Plc Jos Main Branch and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 308 of the Penal Code Law of Plateau state and punishable under section 309 of the same Act”.

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel asked the court to fix a date for trial.

Counsel to the accused, Samuel Obende made an oral application for bail which was vehemently opposed by the prosecution citing the severity of the offence which attracts 5 years imprisonment in the event of conviction.

Justice Nimpar granted bail to the accused in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must own a landed property in Bukuru area of Jos and must be a public servant not below the level of Director.

Justice Nimpar adjourned the case to December 9, 2013 for hearing.
