127  Forum / The Buzz Central / Wumi Toriola Confirms End Of Her Marriage To US-Based Husband, Denies Domestic Violence on: 24-01-2023 05:34 PM

Nollywood actress, Wumi Toriola, has finally reacted to rumours concerning her marriage, confirming that she has separated from her husband.

She also addressed allegations that she was violent during her marriage, stating that such allegations were false.

There had been rumours on social media concerning the actress’ marriage after she participated in a viral TikTok challenge where she claimed that she was single.

A famous blogger, Gistlover, had also hinted at the marriage crash, coupled with allegations that the actress’ display of violence led to the end of the union.

Clearing the air on the rumours, the Battle on Buka Street actress wrote on her Instagram page on Tuesday, “There has been a lot of media attention on me lately regarding my marriage. Yes, it is true the marriage is over. We have gone out separate ways for over a year now. It didn’t work out, there was no need for drama hence my reason for not letting my fans know.

“But yesterday I saw a report where it was alleged that I was violent while the marriage lasted, and I used to beat my mother and my mother-in-law. It was reported that my ex allegedly concocted these lies.

“For the record, I am not a violent person. I have not had to exchange punches with anyone and I was never violent in the marriage.

“The most painful part of the report is that I used to beat my mother. This is not only a personal attack, it is satanic. It is against everything I stand for and believe. As a properly raised Yoruba lady, it is costly to lay your hands on your parent.

“As a matter of fact, my mum has been late for over 20 years. And I never raise my hands against my mother-in-law. It never happened, and it will never happen. My family members, my ex’s family members, and our neighbors can testify to that.

“I wish those who started the rumour and those spreading well and pray that God rewards every one of us according to the works of our hands.

“As for me, I am focused on the next level, and I have moved on from the past. I advise everyone else to do the same.”

Toriola married her husband on May 13, 2018, and they have a son together.

Federal High Court Vacates Forfeiture Order on Ekweremadu's 40 properties

A Federal High Court in Abuja has vacated an interim forfeiture of 40 landed properties granted against the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu

Justice Inyang Ekwo vacated the order following a discovery that the Forfeiture Order was fraudulently obtained by the Federal Government against the properties.

The Judge while lifting the order held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC which obtained the order on behalf of the Federal Government concealed information that led to granting it.

Specifically, Justice Ekwo said that EFCC which was fully aware that Ekweremadu was in custody in the United Kingdom failed to make the vital information available to the court.

With his detention in London, the Judge agreed with Chief Adegboyega Awomolo SAN, counsel to Ekweremadu that there was no way the former Deputy Senate President could defend his ownership of the disputed properties.

Justice Ekwo had on 4 November 2022 issued an interim Forfeiture Order in favour of the Federal Government following an ex-parte application brought before by the EFCC.

The Judge specifically directed that anybody who had interest in the forfeited properties should indicate within 14 days of the publication of the interim forfeiture order from the court.

The former Deputy Senate President and his wife are currently standing trial in the United Kingdom for alleged organ harvesting.

This is Emefiele’s second meeting with the President since he returned to the country on January 12, 2022.

President Muhammadu Buhari is in a meeting with the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, at the State House, Abuja.

This is Emefiele’s second meeting with the President since he “secretly” returned to the country on January 12, 2022.

Earlier on Thursday, the embattled CBN chief was part of a delegation of the Arab Bank for Economic Development led by its Director General, Dr Sidi Ould Tah.

Emefiele had left the country following the investigation of several allegations against him, including corruption and terrorism financing.

Weeks earlier, the DSS had sought a court order to arrest him. But the request was rejected by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The DSS asked the court to order the arrest of the CBN governor over alleged “acts of financing terrorism, fraudulent activities and economic crimes of national security dimension.”

On October 20, 2022, Justice Inyang Ekwo sitting in the Federal High Court in Abuja summoned Emefiele over the $53m judgment debt arising from the Paris Club refund.

The court ordered him to appear on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, as the hearing date.

However, Emefiele filed an appeal against the FHC ruling saying that Justice Ekwo erred in law and occasioned a miscarriage of justice when he made an order compelling his attendance in court for the $53 million debt.

Wednesday’s proceedings could not go on as planned when the matter was called, making the court to adjourn the case till March 20, 2023.

Wife of Ondo State Governor, Betty Akeredolu Accuses Husband’s Appointee Of Snatching Her Husband

There is tension in Ondo State over a voice note sent by Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, wife of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, to a WhatsApp group known as Aketi Women’s Platform.

In the voice note, the First Lady threatened to deal with Mrs. Olubunmi Adedipe Ademosu, one of the Governor’s Special Advisers, for allegedly ‘sneaking in concoctions’ to her husband.

A voice note is created by speaking into an electronic device intended to be heard by members on a platform.

A concoction is something that has been made out of several natural/herbal products mixed together. It is prepared by boiling mixture of herbs and spices in water, pap water, hot drinks and other liquids.

It is not clear why Mrs. Ademosu, who has been described as “a God-fearing woman”, would be ‘sneaking in concoctions’ to Governor Akeredolu or why Mrs. Akeredolu would warn her to ‘stay away from my husband’.

The First Lady also revealed that she warned her husband to avoid Mrs. Ademosu because, according to her, she is ‘bloody evil’.

Quote
Mrs. Akeredolu threatened to deal with her mercilessly to the extent that she will never forget in her life because “you are a terrible human being”. She also advised Mrs. Ademosu to “go away and enjoy your loot”.

The voice note is now the subject of discussion in the Sunshine State, especially in government circle, as some members of the Aketi Women’s Platform have sent it to various platforms.

At the Governor’s Office and various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on Monday, workers were seen ‘freely sharing the voice note’.

Also, it is the subject of discussion among politicians, journalists, opinion leaders, teachers, market women and others.

Some, who listened to the voice note, insisted: “There is no smoke without fire”.

“Good morning everyone. This is Arabinrin. I have a message for Ademosu and I believe that she is on this Aketi Women’s Platform.

“I don’t have her number and I don’t think she is worthy of me having her number. I want this woman to stay away from my husband. Stop sneaking in concoctions.

“According to her, they are from her pastors, her fake pastors to give my husband to drink. We rely on medical care. We rely on Western style of medical care and Aketi will get well.

“But what has triggered this very message is her recent nocturnal meeting to become the Deputy Governor of Ondo State. Look at you, what have you got upstairs to be the Deputy Governor of Ondo State?

“Yeah, per adventure, if anything happens to Aketi, Lucky (Deputy Governor) takes over. It is a constitutional thing but for you to be scheming, for you to be scheming. I warned Aketi from the word go that this woman is evil, this woman is no good and it is happening. She has nothing good for you.

“I warned you. This woman is bloody evil but I am warning her for the very last time to stay away from my husband.

“And look, if you are dealing with an Ibo woman in this kind of situation, I will deal with you mercilessly you will never forget in your life.

“For the very last time, Ademosu, whatever you call yourself, stay away from Aketi. Stay away from bringing those, sneaking in those concoctions. Stay away. this woman.

“You won’t find it funny with me o. You will never find it funny with me. You are very, very, a terrible human being. Go away and go and enjoy your loot”.
Born in Lagos into the ruling house of the late High Chief Bolanle Adedipe, the Elemo of Akureland, Mrs. Ademosu, an alumnus of Manchester Business School, McDonough School of Business Washington and the prestigious Lagos Business School, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the Lagos State University and went ahead to obtain a Masters Degree in Business Administration, specialising in Management Technology, from the same University.

Her career spans over a period of 30 years, working in various sectors of the Financial Industry.

She was before her appointment as Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor, the group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FIBL Group with subsidiaries such as FIBL Investment, Trust & Resourcery Limited, a capital market sub-broking and investment consulting firm; Favour Insurance Brokers Limited, a large life and non-life Insurance brokerage firm & Hesed Derivatives Limited, one of the leading haulage and logistic firm for many corporate organisations including Nycil Limited, Forte Oil, International Breweries, just to mention a few.

134  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Three Rich Men In Nigeria Are Wealthier Than 86M People Combined - Oxfam on: 17-01-2023 04:39 PM

Oxfam in Nigeria has said three of the richest Nigerian citizens are wealthier than 83 million others put together.

This is contained in a report titled ‘Davos 2023 Inequality Report’ unveiled at a media briefing on Monday in Abuja.

Ahead of the global conference of world leaders scheduled for next week in Davos Switzerland, Country Director, Oxfam in Nigeria, Dr. Vincent Ahonsi, presented the report.

Represented by the Deputy Programmes Director and Budget Business Development Manager of the organisation, Regina Afiemo, Ahonsi presented the report alongside Executive Director, Connected Development (CODE), Mallam Hamza Lawal; Coordinator, Climate Justice Project, Oxfam in Nigeria, Kenneth Akpan, and Project Coordinator, Fiscal Accountability for Inequality Reduction, Henry Ushie.

They posited that there must be higher taxation of world’s super-rich persons to breach the inequality gap in many sectors, and that for the past decades they extraordinarily grabbed half of all new wealth, at the expenses of other citizens.

According to the report, while billionaire fortunes are increasing by $2.7bn daily, at least 1.7bn workers now live in countries where inflation is outpacing wages.

The report also said that a tax of up to five percent on the world’s multi-millionaires and billionaires could raise $1.7trn a year, enough to lift two billion people out of poverty.

According to the report, in Nigeria, the richest 0.003 percent Nigerians (6,355 individuals worth $5m and above) have 1.4 times more wealth than 107 million other Nigerians.

“A wealth tax of two percent on the millionaires, three percent on those with wealth above $50m and five percent on the Nigerian billionaires would raise $3.2bn annually. This would be enough to double health spending.

“Oxfam is calling for more tax on billionaires and not workers and is a message sent to world leaders ahead of the World Economic Forum, WEF, organised Davos 2023 where ‘Survival of the Richest’ is published on the opening day of the conference, while world elites are gathering in the Swiss ski resort as extreme wealth and extreme poverty have increased simultaneously for the first time in 25 years,” the report said.

Ahonsi on his part said, “The wealth of Nigeria billionaires has grown by a third since the start of COVID-19 pandemic. The richest men in Nigeria have more wealth than 83 million Nigerians. The three richest one per cent grabbed nearly two-thirds of all new wealth worth $42trn created since 2020, almost twice as much money as the bottom 99 percent of the world’s population.”

He said the agency arrested a suspect over the development, adding that more tramadol pills and other illicit drugs linked to the warehouse were seized in separate raids.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed the enormous amount of tramadol it recovered in Lagos.

The NDLEA says it has seized millions of illicit drugs worth N5 billion at a warehouse in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos state.

Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, said this in a statement on Sunday.

He said the agency arrested a suspect over the development, adding that more tramadol pills and other illicit drugs linked to the warehouse were seized in separate raids.
Quote
“Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the weekend busted another Tramadol cartel in Lagos with the seizure of millions of opioids pills and bottles worth over Five Billion Naira (N5 billion) from their warehouse in Amuwo Odofin area of the state and arrest of two of the kingpins,” the statement reads.

“The drug cartels took the first heat on Tuesday, 10th January, from determined officers of the agency who intercepted an imported consignment of Loud, a strong variant of cannabis, weighing 4,878.72 kilograms along Awolowo road, Ikoyi, Lagos.

“This was followed by the seizure of 121,630 pills of pharmaceutical opioids and some quantity of Molly from a dealer, Charles Okeke, on Wednesday, 11th January, at Idumota area of Lagos Island.

“Another effort by the agency to bring the drug cartels to their knees paid off on Friday, 13th January, when operatives tracked and located a major warehouse for pharmaceutical opioids at 17, Sir Ben Onyeka Street, off Ago palace way, in the Amuwo Odofin area of the state, while the owner of the store, Aloysius Okeke was arrested.

“Illicit drugs recovered from the warehouse include 3,264,630 pills of tramadol; 3,490 bottles of codeine and 915,000 capsules of pregabalin 300mg.

“This came on the heels of the arrest of a suspect, Olarenwaju Lawal Wahab, who distributes for the cartel, the same day. Recovered from his white Mercedes distribution bus include: 14,690 bottles of codeine-based syrup; 402,500 tablets of Tramadol 250mg; 50,000 tablets of Tramadol 225mg, and 210,000 capsules of pregabalin 300mg.”

Babafemi added that the anti-narcotics officers of the agency also “uncovered and dismantled a clandestine skuchies laboratory in a remote part of Sagamu, Ogun state, where several equipment and various quantities of illicit substances used to mass produce the dangerous new psychoactive substance were recovered on Saturday, 14th January, 2023”.

In another raid in Akure, the Ondo capital, the agency said three suspects — Sunday Make, Nwele Friday, and Egbe Nnaemaka — were found with cannabis sativa.

Also in Edo, Katsina, and Borno, the agency said its operatives recovered cannabis sativa and arrested suspects, including Abiodun Emaria and Murtala Isiyaat.

Buba Marwa, NDLEA chairperson, encouraged officers across the country to sustain the efforts to effectively tackle drug abuse and trafficking in the country.
