21  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Chinese National, Geng Quandong Sentenced To Death For Killing His Nigerian Girlfriend, Buhari on: 26-03-2024 12:41 PM

In Kano State, a Chinese national, Geng Quandong, aged 47, has received a death sentence by hanging for the murder of his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Buhari.

Quandong faced charges of culpable homicide by the state government following the tragic demise of Ms. Buhari, aged 23, at Janbalu quarters in September 2022. The altercation leading to her death allegedly stemmed from her refusal to marry Quandong, purportedly after exploiting him.

After a thorough trial, the Kano State High Court found Quandong guilty of the killing and sentenced him to death by hanging. Presiding Judge Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji emphasized the prosecution's success in proving the case beyond reasonable doubt, citing inconsistencies in Quandong's testimony.

Despite the grim verdict, Judge Ado-Ma’aji extended a glimmer of hope for clemency, recommending that the Kano State Governor consider mercy on behalf of the convicted individual.

The Attorney-General of Kano State, Haruna Dederi, serving as the prosecution counsel, detailed the events leading to the tragic incident, wherein Quandong allegedly stabbed Ms. Buhari with a knife at her residence, leading to her demise.

During the trial, the defence, led by Muhummad Dan’azumi, presented Quandong's testimony, asserting his actions as self-defense, citing an altercation where Ms. Buhari allegedly assaulted him. Dan’azumi implored the court to consider the defendant for the prerogative of mercy under section 313 of ACJL.

In his defense, Quandong expressed remorse, asserting that the stabbing was not intentional but a desperate act to defend himself. He pleaded for leniency from the court in its sentencing.

Following the verdict, the victim's mother, Fatima Zubairu, expressed contentment with the court's decision, speaking to journalists and highlighting a semblance of closure for the grieving family.
22  Forum / Politics / Full Gist: How Remi Adiukwu's Marriage To Chief S.O Bakare Crash Due To Jealousy on: 26-03-2024 12:32 PM

The dissolution of the once-prominent union between leading female politician Chief Mrs. Remi Adiukwu and her former partner, businessman and socialite Chief S.O Bakare, known affectionately as Oluwalogbon, has long been a topic of interest among many, leaving questions lingering about the true cause of their separation.

Recent revelations now shed light on the underlying reason behind their split, tracing it back to a problematic business venture initiated by Oluwalogbon during his tenure as chairman of the now-defunct Metropolitan Bank.

The couple, who tied the knot in December 2002 after a public courtship period, saw their relationship falter roughly a decade ago, sparking speculation across social circles. Despite maintaining a tight-lipped stance on the matter, their divergence became conspicuous when Adiukwu reverted to her maiden name, signaling the end of their marital bond.

Investigations uncover that Oluwalogbon, in 2001, registered two companies under the names of his then-wife, Chief Mrs. Remi Adiukwu, and his associate Mr. Omole. These entities secured a substantial Commodity Import Finance loan, facilitated by the Metropolitan Bank, with Oluwalogbon's influence likely necessitating the use of his spouse's name for the transaction.

The loan financed the importation of iron rods, which were stored in Oluwalogbon's premises at Ikeja under the supervision of Metropolitan Bank. Notably, Adiukwu and Omole played no active role in the business operations or financial management throughout the venture's duration.

As the deal soured, complications arose with the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), casting a shadow over Adiukwu's involvement in the companies. Despite her limited engagement and political commitments at the time, she found herself entangled in the aftermath of a transaction she had little knowledge of.

Adiukwu's repeated summons by the NDIC underscored her unease as she faced potential repercussions due to her association with the companies. Her disappointment grew as Bakare failed to address the situation adequately, exacerbating strains within their relationship.

While Adiukwu remains unscathed legally, her frustration mounts over Bakare's perceived inaction in rectifying the issue, further contributing to the demise of their marriage in 2013.

In essence, the unraveling of their union can be traced back to the ramifications of a business venture gone awry, highlighting the complexities that often underlie seemingly idyllic relationships.

25  Forum / The Buzz Central / Following Recent Divorce Saga, Nigerians Dig Up Abusive Past Of Modupe Alakija on: 16-03-2024 01:14 PM

Why is it such a prevailing tendency among the average Nigerian to point fingers at the woman when a relationship or marriage encounters difficulties?

Every corner I turn these days seems to echo with tales of the Alakijas' separation.

As I delved into the narratives surrounding their split, my initial thoughts gravitated towards a recent incident involving Mr. Modupe Alakija, who was reportedly suspended from Ikoyi Club for an altercation with another member. I couldn't help but wonder if that same temper had manifested itself at home.

Let me be clear: I am not absolving the man of responsibility, nor am I advocating for blind support of the woman. My concern lies in the prevalent tendency within Nigerian society to solely blame women when marriages or relationships falter.

There exist numerous factors to ponder when dissecting a relationship that has soured.

Dear Nigerian men, it's crucial to recognize that it takes two to tango.

Had Sinachi, the singer, decided to leave her husband and marriage, perhaps she would still be with us today.

Must we blame a woman for running away from a toxic marriage or relationship?

Some said Folorunsho Alakija is a marriage counselor and that they thought she would keep her home.

And so what?

Are you for real?

Are you saying a woman should stay even if the marriage might lead to her demise?

Come on now!

And these people have been married for over 30 years.

Give her a break, please!

She’s a human being, for God’s sake.

And it’s a separation at this moment. Who says that they can’t patch whatever they’re going through?

And if it ends in divorce, how is that your problem?

Are you saying because she’s the richest woman in Nigeria and she’s a pastor or whatever it means she should take every bad thing that comes her way and say okay to it?

Dear Naija men, please stop this nonsense of blaming the women alone.

We men too have our faults, and we are sometimes the catalyst for the separation or divorce.

Let’s stop the blame game and work on our differences so as to have better relationships and marriages.

Peace and Love to y’all.

29  Forum / The Buzz Central / Dani Alves' Ex-Wife, Joana Sanz Reacts To His Sentencing For Molestation on: 22-02-2024 04:15 PM

Following the sentencing of former Barcelona full-back Dani Alves to four years and six months in jail for segxwal assault on December 31, 2022, his ex-wife appeared seemingly unfazed. Alves, a former Brazil international, had been held on remand at Brians 2 Prison near Barcelona since his arrest in January last year. He now faces his first night behind bars as a convicted sex offender. Shortly after the news broke, his former wife Joana Sanz shared a picture on Instagram, appearing composed, before posting another image, suggesting she was out for coffee.

During an interview with La Vanguardia from prison last summer, Alves apologized to Sanz, stating, "The only person I have to apologize to is my wife, Joana Sanz... I have already apologized to her personally here in prison, but I must do it publicly because the story is public, the offense is public, and she deserves a public apology." Sanz later appeared to confirm their split in a social media post, expressing her determination to move forward, saying, "It will take years to erase from my memory his way of looking at me" and "here is a strong woman moving on to the next stage of her life."

Alves, who became the oldest player to represent Brazil at the World Cup in December 2022 in Qatar, was ordered to stand trial last November.
30  Forum / Sports / VIDEO: Nigeria Lost AFCON Finals 2 - 1 To Host Nation Ivory Coast on: 12-02-2024 04:42 AM

Nigeria appeared on course to replicate their 1-0 win against Ivory Coast at Ebimpe Olympic Stadium from the group phase, especially after captain William Troost-Ekong, who had previously scored the decisive penalty in their initial encounter, headed in the first goal towards the end of the first half.

However, the game took a turn when Franck Kessie leveled the score shortly after the 60th minute, and Haller converted Simon Adingra's cross in the 81st minute, igniting ecstatic celebrations among the Ivorian fans clad in orange.

With this victory, Ivory Coast secured the title for this year, adding to their victories in 1992 and 2015, and matching Nigeria's record of three African Cup of Nations wins.

Surpassing Nigeria in this match meant missing the chance to equal Ghana's four titles, with only Egypt, Cameroon, and Ghana having won the championship more times. Nigeria, led by the current African player of the year, Osimhen, had been the standout team of the tournament for the past month.

However, the determined spirit of Ivory Coast proved insurmountable, marking them as the first host nation to clinch the AFCON title since 2006.

Didier Drogba, who led the Elephants in the final 18 years ago only to lose to Egypt in Cairo, was present in the stands this time to witness his nation achieve a remarkable triumph.

31  Forum / Sports / Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship Between Usyk and Fury Postponed, After Fury Spar on: 2-02-2024 08:50 PM

The highly anticipated heavyweight championship bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is delayed due to Fury's unexpected injury sustained during a training session in Saudi Arabia. Scheduled for February 17 in Riyadh, the clash was put off after Fury suffered a severe cut above his right eye, necessitating extensive medical care and stitches. Expressing his disappointment, Fury, the WBC titleholder, and Usyk, who holds the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles, looked forward to rescheduling. This match aimed to unify the heavyweight division, marking a historic moment in boxing. Fury, preparing diligently for the fight, promised a swift return to the ring post-recovery. The postponement follows a previous scheduling shift from December 23, caused by Fury's match with Francis Ngannou. Critics have scrutinized Saudi Arabia's investment in major sports events, amidst discussions on 'sportswashing,' though local officials argue it boosts the economy and tourism.

Some Nigerians have expressed their disagrement with British Broadcasting Corporations, BBC on its documentary over alleged crimes of late Founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Temitope Balogun Joshua widely known as TB Joshua.

This documentary series was released today and you can watch all the 3 parts of the documentary on TB Joshua below.

Disagreeing on social media, many says they believe it’s just about pulling a Christian leader down, while others said, there’s no way, they will believe the documentary, since the late prophet is no longer alive to defend himself.

Many also questioned while it’s coming two years after his death.

Some also said, late Joshua was a great philanthropist and questioned why his good works was not documented.

British boxing star, Anthony Joshua is set to face MMA superstar, Frances Ngannou in a 10-round boxing match in Saudi Arabia. Ngannou had earlier showed a stellar display when he fought WBC heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury in a fight earlier thereby earning him more fights against highly ranked boxing stars.

Who do you think will win this massive showdown? As expected, Anthony Joshua is heavily favoured to beat Frances Ngannou, but so was Tyson Fury favoured when he faced Ngannou but the results were somewhat different. In anycase this remains a mouth watering encounter for the entertainment of the casuals, but remains unpopular within the hardcore boxing community.
