1  Forum / Sports / Mourinho Rules Out Further Spending This January on: 26-01-2014 01:35 PM

Jose Mourinho has revealed Chelsea have no plans to make any further signings before the transfer window closes.

Blues boss Mourinho has already swooped for Nemanja Matic and Bertrand Traore, while Egypt winger Mohamed Salah will complete his switch from Swiss club Basel once he passes a medical and agrees personal terms.

Traore, 18, has already been loaned to Vitesse Arnhem, but Salah and Matic, who returned to Stamford Bridge in a £21 million ($34 million, 25 million euros) move after a spell with Benfica, will both be expected to contribute immediately.

Chelsea’s original plan this month was to solely go for Matic, but the sales of Juan Mata to Manchester United and Kevin De Bruyne to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg persuaded Mourinho to splash out on £10 million-rated Salah.

And with the window set to shut on January 31, Mourinho believes that will be the end of Chelsea’s transfer dealings.

“Hopefully we are done,” Mourinho said. “We are not bringing in a striker in this window.”

It is a transitional period for Chelsea in Mourinho’s first season back in charge in west London, yet they are still challenging at the top of the Premier League and face Galatasaray in the Champions League last 16.

Mourinho, whose focus this weekend is on Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round tie with Stoke, said: “We would only have done Nemanja this window if we hadn’t lost a player (Mata), but we are trying to keep the level and improve the squad to change the style of play.

“And we’re still trying to get results and still trying to win matches.

“We need that mixture of young players growing up and experienced players giving stability to the team.

“We are doing that. You can see what we’re trying to do. Nemanja (Matic) is 26, Salah 21, so we are trying to build a team for the future.

“We’re doing fine. We’re calm. In relation to the domestic competitions, Man City is Man City, an unbelievable level.

“Arsenal have had eight years building this team, and this team is perfect. They’re also a strong contender.”

2  Forum / Law and Crime / NDLEA Nabs Undergraduate With 1.75KG Cannabis At MMIA on: 26-01-2014 01:26 PM

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the weekend arrested a 20-year-old undergraduate at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos for importing 1.745kg of dry weeds that tested positive for cannabis.

According to a statement by the agency’s Head, Public Affairs, Ofoyeju Mitchell, the suspect, Udiomeh Ita, was found in possession of the drug during the inward screening of passengers on an Africa World Airlines flight from Accra, Ghana.

NDLEA Lagos Airport commander, Mr. Hamza Umar, said the suspect hid the drug inside his bag containing personal effects.

“An undergraduate student was found in possession of two parcels of cannabis weighing 1.745kg during routine search of passengers. The drug was hidden inside his bag containing personal effects. He was immediately arrested and the case is under investigation” Hamza said.

In his confessional statement, the suspect, who reportedly gained admission into the faculty of Management Sciences at the Regent University, said he used the money for his tuition fees in purchasing the drug found on him.

He reportedly said, “I spent my school fees on cell phone, smoking hemp and attending night clubs. I bought a cell phone for 107,000 naira and spent my school fees recklessly.

“I thought I could make enough profit from the sale of cannabis to offset the deficit in my tuition. I bought each parcel of hemp for 220 Ghanaian cedi. I did not know what came over me and I am afraid to go to my parents. My father is a retiree.”

Ita hails from Akwa-Ibom State but grew up in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Chairman of the NDLEA Ahmadu Giade has described the action of the undergraduate as shameful, saying students must understand that drug use is inimical to academic pursuit.
