Our dear president, We write this letter to you with great passion, and in a state of curiosity and concern. We understand your zeal as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to invest in the next generation of the country’s youths by presenting a budget that contains reasonable projects that are aimed at tackling the far-reaching malady of UNEMPLOYMENT in our beloved country, Nigeria.
But, it is so unfortunate that the unemployed graduates of Nigerian institutions of higher learning have no representatives at the ongoing National Conference. Having read the modalities of the National Conference and the components involved, we are convinced without prejudice or doubt, that our children would blame us if we fail to inform you, Mr. President, of the mockery of the committee as a result of misplaced priorities. Mr. President Sir, the only common element which costs less, and can solve the myriad of problems faced by most Nigerians is EMPLOYMENT...
Unemployment is a big challenge in Nigeria, which over the years has represented a lost opportunity for national economic development. With the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) putting the current rate of unemployed Nigerians at 23.9 per cent, up from 21.1 per cent in 2010 and 19.7 per cent in 2009, the rising unemployment rate in Nigeria has in no small measure contributed to the continuous rise in social vices like terrorism, political thuggery, violence and even teenage pregnancies among youths in many parts of the country.
In view of these, the Association of Nigerian Graduates against Unemployment, an association of well cultured youths and intellectuals, was formed. We represent the frustrated and angry youths in the society, forced to act after going through the 492 political selections for the National Conference and noticing the deafening silence concerning unemployment and the unemployed.
We are happy you know, according to statements credited to you, that Nigerians are already talking about their national challenges through the print, electronic and social media and this is how we intend to make our voices heard.
The politicians will give the same answers and report only what they feel you would be comfortable hearing. The truth, Mr. President, is far from comfortable. What affects us is UNEMPLOYMENT, and we want you to take a critical look at the following issues:
1. Contract Staffing – This is in fact one of the biggest problems hindering graduates from getting jobs. Most of those assumed to be workers in most industries, firms and companies are in fact, not permanent staff. They are all under-employed and are also competing with fresh graduates for any available vacancy. 2. Age limit as a prerequisite for employment opportunities. 3. The issue of years of experience by several government ministries and parastatals. 4. Employment not being on merit. 5. Provision of social welfare for all unemployed graduates and more for the physically challenged graduates. (Return to the quota for each firm to employ, as a percentage of their total workforce, a specific percentage of physically challenged graduates)
Mr. President, from the various statistics we have from the National Bureau of Statistics, and other sources, the number of unemployed citizens ranges from 30 to 45 million, and that is about the population of five major cities in Nigeria. An average of 4.5 million graduates enter into the job market annually with no access to soft loans or any type of enabling environment coupled with epileptic power supply, even after the privatization of PHCN.
The “YouWin” programme is more like and very similar to the visa lottery game, where only lucky winners are empowered and only the families of public office holders and those in government get the little available jobs. We are citizens and should also be given access to enjoy social facilities like those in government e.g.
NHIS scheme. We are products of our society and we want to be treated equally like those in government. We passed through various challenges and delays in school such as ASUU strikes, late school enrolment due to poverty and/or ignorance, bureaucratic arrangement in government, unfortunate policies and administrative problems.
Mr. President, we live in a country where people now sell jobs. Everyone had hitherto been quiet about this completely unacceptable and despicable act and it must be looked into. We are human capital, and this is by far, the greatest asset any country can have. We are worth more than the oil in the South-South or the pepper from the North. We cannot afford to sit down and watch ourselves waste away anymore.
Our dear president, we commend you for what has been done so far in addressing the issue of unemployment such as NDE, YouWin and others, but we are asking that you help us to help this nation and youth restiveness caused by unemployment by empowering us.
We are tired of running out of our fatherland to foreign countries and yet treated and addressed as third class citizens through Visa bonding and the rest, when our country is blessed.
The stakes are high now and we are using this opportunity to address the polity that this association is not a political movement or a violent sect. We are a pressure group crying out in splinters but with one voice for our needs in our country ,Nigeria. We denounce and disassociate ourselves from the methodologies of some home based terror groups/sects in the Northern part of Nigeria that have adopted violence and are unleashing carnage on the society in fighting their cause.
However, it should not be forgotten that the problems of these Home Terror groups in the North started when their needs were not met, and with lots of anomalies in their society. Now it’s spiraling and all nations are called to join in securing the region. All we are saying is listen to our cries now and not when things go bad. We are accessible and open for discussions on how to forge ahead in addressing the problems of unemployment with your support.
Mr. President Sir, ignoring the points raised here can have unpleasant consequences. We implore you to urgently address these points to halt the steadily growing number of angry and frustrated unemployed graduates who may be tempted to channel their knowledge and energy into negativities. God bless you, sir, as we await your speedy response and God bless Nigeria.

Eclectic Fuji musician, Alhaji Abass Akande popularly known as Obesere has concluded plans to shoot a blockbuster movie on rape. The Fuji singer who was recently hit by a rape scandal is taking the advantage of the situation by turning it into a film.
According to our findings, Obesere has written a script about rape and is currently shopping for artistes who will fit into the characters. It is not yet certain if the famous musician will be starring in the movie, but prominent artistes are sure to take the lead in the movie. Unconfirmed reports also have it that a total sum of N20 million has been budgeted for the project.
Further digs revealed that the movie is to expose men and women who blackmail people with rape scandal and to capture tricks and methods used by rapists. Explaining further, Obesere’s publicist, Deola Adeoti said, “the movie is targeted at unraveling the mystery behind the rape scandal.”
“A whole lot of things have been read and said about him in the past few weeks, but I think this movie will tell the world the plain truth,” he added.

The House of Representatives yesterday passed a resolution to probe the expenditures of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Maduekwe, on a private jet she allegedly charters for private use and maintains with public funds.
According to the sponsor of the bill, Hon Samuel Adejare who represents Lagos State, the minister maintains the jet with 500,000euros or N130 million monthly
"Thus, in the last two years, the minister has committed at least N3.120bn to maintaining the private jet, which is used solely for her personal needs and those of her immediate family, which is an appalling act"he said. He said the frequent use of the Jet by the Minister and her family members has caused an estimated N10billion to be spent on it for maintenance, fuel, payment of crew members, hanger rentage and others. In a unanimous vote, the house members adopted the resolution and mandated its committee on Public Accounts to investigate the matter and provide results within 3weeks.
In a related development, a member of the House, Hon Aminu Suleiman through a motion he presented to the house, revealed that the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas NLNG had not remitted any of its generated revenue to the federation account since 2004 till date. The house committee on Natural Gas was directed to investigate the claims by Hon Aminu.

It is believed that Wenger, who is the second-best paid manager in the Premier League after Jose Mourinho, felt that he is already well rewarded for his job.
However, the new deal will be supplemented by performance-related top-ups depending upon the team’s success. The Frenchman remains comfortably the top earner at the club, with his £145,000-a-week (€174,000) salary eclipsing that of Mesut Ozil, who earns £130,000 (€156,000) a week.
Wenger, who will take charge of his 1,000th match at the helm when Arsenal travel to title rivals Chelsea on Saturday, will extend his reign to a remarkable 20 years if his new deal is honoured, by which time he will be 66.
The key assistants include Wenger's long-standing ally Boro Primorac, assistant manager Steve Bould, first-team coach Neil Banfield, goalkeeper coach Gerry Peyton and fitness coach Tony Colbert.
Senior medical and technical staff have also agreed deals that run until 2016, while more junior members of Wenger's backroom team will remain on 12-month rolling contracts.
Arsenal have not yet announced the Frenchman's new deal and those of his backroom staff, but it is understood that the agreements are all in place and only need to be formally rubber-stamped.

The last time, they robbed a pentecostal church HERE, now it's a CAC church.
A group of 15 member robbery gang invaded the Christ Apostolic Church in Alagbado, Lagos State during an engrossed prayer vigil last Friday.
The robbers who operated for about 20 minutes made away with 40 phones and money estimated at N2million.
Narrating how the robbery was successful executed, Church members said: “When the gun men got in, we were asked to have been ordered to lie face down and they started ransacking them. They positioned themselves at the church’s major entrances. They collected money, phones and recharge cards. They started shouting, ‘where is your pastor?’ They took the church offering and wanted to rape some of our women. In the 20 years of my being in the ministry, I have never seen such effrontery before.”
Unknown to them, the pastor had sneaked out through one of the secret exit doors and dodged behind a window, where he viewed everything going on. From his hide out, he was able to alert the police who arrived at the scene just after the robbers left.
A new member of the Church, suspected to be the robbers’ informant, has since been arrested.
A member of the church, who craved anonymity, said some of the members had observed the new man making phone calls while the vigil was on.
He said, “The vigil actually started around 12 midnight. Some of us observed a man who came in around 1.30am. He was seated in the women’s section. About four persons tried persuading him to change seat, including the pastor, but he refused. So they left him.
“I observed him going out several times to make phone calls. At about 2am, I overheard him saying, ‘start coming, they are praying’. Few minutes later, I heard a gunshot.”
The head usher of the church was said to have been shot at close range, when he tried closing the door against the robbers, who he originally thought were arriving late for the programme.
The bullet was said to have shattered the glass at the entrance, and landed on the pulpit.
Also one of the Church elders told PUNCH thus:
“Apart from me, there were three other people who saw him. A particular member of the church even told us that he was the one who grabbed her phone while the robbers were stealing items. He wanted to follow the robbers when they were escaping, but we held him till the police arrived.”
He was handed over to the Ojokoro Police Division for interrogation.
Confirming the incidence, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said the matter was being investigated at SARS.
Braide said, “The incident took place around 2am and some people were arrested around 4am. The matter is currently under investigation and the suspects, including the son of the traditional ruler, are in police custody.

A mobile policeman yesterday afternoon attacked three officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and knocked one unconscious following an argument along Ashabi Cole off Lateef Jakande road Agidingbi in Ikeja.
Trouble started when LASTMA officials attempted to tow a vehicle parked in front of a bank which was causing traffic. The police officers guarding the bank challenged the LASTMA officials and tried to prevent them from towing the vehicle which was said to belong to a bank customer. An arguement ensued and before anyone could stop it, one LASTMA official was rushed to the hospital after a police man gave him a head butt and smashed the butt of his gun into his face.
When other LASTMA officials saw what had happened to their colleague, they turned the whole scene into a free for all show as both parties started arguing and fighting.
Head of LASTMA confirmed the incident and said the unconscious official is receiving medical attention.
