The Lagos state office of the Central Bank of Nigeria is on fire.
The fire started at about 5:40 PM at the top most part of the building.

Men of the Lagos Fire Service and other emergency agency officials are said to have arrived the scene.

A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 271 people made an emergency landing in Hong Kong after an electricity generator failed, according to the airline.

The emergency landing, made while the aircraft was flying from Kuala Lumpur to the South Korean capital, Seoul, came after yet another Malaysia Airlines jet ran into trouble after hitting a flock of birds while it was landing in the Nepali capital, Kathmand, on Friday.

The birds shattered the windshields and caused some damage to the wheel housing, but the aircraft was able to land safely.

In a statement today the airline said Flight MH066 had taken off from Kuala Lumpur at 11.37pm on Sunday and made the unscheduled landing in Hong Kong at 2.53am today.

Fire crews were put on standby for the arrival of the Airbus 330-300, a larger jet than the Boeing 777 which is missing – the Airbus can carry up to 440 passengers, while the Boeing has a 365 passenger capacity.

Despite the emergency landing, the airline said that electrical power continued to be supplied by an auxiliary power unit.

‘All 271 passenger from MH066 have been transferred on other carriers,’ said the airline.

A spokeswoman for the Hong Kong airport said the plane landed safely less than 30 minutes after it notified the airport. She said it was not classified as an emergency landing, although emergency services were put on standby.

The incidents in Hong Kong and Nepal occurred while an international search continued into its third week for flight MH370 which vanished on March 8 while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.

Airline officials have been grilled following the disappearance of MH370 on whether safety checks had been carried out on that particular plane.

The US Federal Aviation Administration last year issued a warning about a potential weak spot in Boeing 777s which could lead to what it said was ‘the loss of structural integrity of the aircraft’.

The administration told airlines to look out for corrosion under the fuselage skin which could lead to the fuselage being compromised.

This, it said, could lead to a possible rapid decompression as well as the plane breaking up.

Malaysian Airlines officials, under pressure to answer whether safety checks had been carried out on its 777 aircraft, insisted that everything had been done in accordance with guidance from Boeing.

The brief scare comes just a day after it was revealed that missing Flight 370 dropped to as low as 12,000ft in what could have been a cabin emergency before it disappeared from the radar

As the exhaustive search continues in the Indian Ocean for the missing Boeing 777-200, an official revealed the doomed passenger jet made a sharp turn over the South China Sea which ‘seemed to be intentional’.

The plane’s last confirmed position, picked up by Malaysian military radar, was at 2.15am Malaysia time (1815 GMT March 7) about 200 nautical miles north-west of Malaysia’s Penang island, roughly an hour after it diverted from its scheduled route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

A Chinese Antarctic exploration team member aboard Chinese icebreaker Xuelong (Snow Dragon) searches for debris of missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 over the southern Indian Ocean.

Ten aircraft including two from Japan and two from China have bolstered the ongoing search effort in the Indian Ocean, where possible debris from missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 was spotted.

Radar tracking shows the aircraft changed altitude after making the ‘intentional’ sharp left turn as it headed toward the Strait of Malacca, a source close to the investigation said.

The anonymous official, who is not authorised to speak to the media, told CNN that flying at 12,000 feet in the heavily trafficked air corridor would’ve kept the missing jet out of sight of other aircraft.

Mary Schiavo, an aviation analyst and former inspector general for the U.S. Department of Transportation, told the international broadcaster the new information was ‘highly significant’.

She said: ‘It explains so many pieces that didn’t fit together before.

‘Now, if we have a scenario where something happened, the plane made a dramatic turn and dropped from 35,000 feet to 12,000 feet, this scenario would fit what a pilot would do in the event of a catastrophic on-board event, such as a rapid decompression, a fire, an explosion.

‘That’s what you would have to do, descend, get down and turn around and try to get back to an airport that could accommodate an ailing plane.’

It raises questions over what might have happened in the plane’s cockpit to cause such a drop in altitude.

However, it is not yet clear how long it took the plane to descend to 12,000 feet, which officials will now be desperate to uncover.

CREEPY: Maheeda Has Finally Done It

On Friday night, March 21, gospel reggae singer Buchi Atuonwu almost lost his house, a duplex located at 30b Olufunmilayo Street, Dideolu Estate, Ogba, Lagos State, in fire incident.
According to a source, the fire began to spread from the mini studio to parts of the living areas upstairs around 9:45PM. At this time, Mr Buchi was away in Warri, but the rest of the family was home.
Buchi’s wife, Jane, declined to give any comments about what happened, according to NET. She said: "I like to spread good news and not bad news. I don’t want to say anything about this."
As you can see on the photos, the fire didn't make much damage but still it's unpleasant experience.

Whether it’s addressing contentious issues on Facebook, prophesying world calamities or witnessing celebrity ‘deliverances’ in his Lagos-based church, the name of controversial Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua can’t seem to leave the news of late.
The events of his church service broadcast live via Emmanuel TV on Sunday 23rd March 2014 proved to be no different as The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) witnessed the confession of two lesbians who said ‘demons’ were behind their lifestyle.
Maria Terese George from Delta State, Nigeria explained to the congregation that her poverty-stricken background pushed her to seek help from an older lady. However, she had ulterior motives in promising to help the attractive 19 year old.  “She took me to a club where we went drinking,” Maria explained while speaking in the packed church. “She took me to her house and started touching me. Because I was drunk, I responded.”

The day after this drunken encounter, Maria (pictured above) had an unusual dream. “A half-naked lady came to me in the dream and fed me with rice, stew and meat.” Upon waking up, Maria’s affection for men disappeared and she began to admire her fellow females. “That was how the spirit of Lesbianism entered me. I noticed that whenever I saw a female that was busty and curvy, I would always admire their features... I became a chronic lesbian,” she admitted.

The same lady who introduced her to Lesbianism brought her into a local prostitution ring, assuring her that the riches she desired could easily be attained. “If I needed money, I would go to meet men who were very rich – politicians and businessmen – but if I wanted to enjoy sex or feel ‘real’ love, I would go for a woman.”

Prostitution led Maria to a neighbouring African country where her immoral lifestyle seemed only to worsen. However, resources disappeared as readily as they arrived. After several years of frustration, she decided it was time to return to Nigeria.

“When I came back, I called some of my old partners for connections,” Maria explained. “They started laughing at me and told me they are now married with kids.” Maria was perplexed. She never thought it possible for one to leave Lesbianism after tasting it.

“I was confused and asked them what they meant. All four of them independently told me they went to T.B. Joshua’s church for deliverance,” much to the delight of the crowd. “Maybe The SCOAN doesn’t know that they have delivered a lot of lesbians,” she added.

Making up her mind to visit the church based in Ikotun-Egbe, Lagos, her resolve was immediately followed by a terrible nightmare.  “That half-naked woman came to me in the dream and said, ‘Look – you think you can leave me! Go and pick up a knife and kill yourself.’ ” Upon waking, Maria immediately packed her bags and left for The SCOAN that morning.

During the church service on Sunday 16th March 2014, one of T.B. Joshua’s ‘Wise Men’ prayed for Maria and she experienced the ‘deliverance’ her friends had spoken of. “I have never experienced that type of thing before! I had gone to other places for ‘deliverance’ but it didn’t go. That is when I found myself even craving more for women.” According to her, when prayed for, she began ‘manifesting’ and a strange voice spoke through her.

After the ‘deliverance’, Maria testified to a total transformation.  “I no longer have affection for women. When I see any woman, I don’t feel it again – I see you as a sister or as my mother. I am seeing myself now as a woman that will settle with a man.” Advising people, the former lesbian told the congregation, “This lesbian spirit is a very stubborn spirit – it takes the grace of God for it to leave you.”

In his comments, T.B. Joshua said, “Don’t hate the people; hate the act. Jesus loves the sinner but hates the sin. Now you are delivered, it is time to live in the Word,” he warned Maria. “Because of Christ, you are delivered – for the salvation of your soul.”

The story of Nneoma Onyema was not so dissimilar. Running away from home aged 18 and becoming a hair stylist in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, a rich lady approached her in the salon one day. After complimenting her appearance, she gave Nneoma extra money and invited her to a high profile club. Intoxicating the teen with alcohol, she awoke the next morning in bed with the lady carousing her.  “She changed my name to Jennifer and took me to a man who put tattoo of love on my back,” she explained to the church. Immediately after this encounter, Nneoma’s affection and attention turned only to females.

Dancing in a club to make a living, she had no contact whatsoever with her family who hadn’t heard from her in three years. However, after being viciously attacked by a girl who claimed she ‘took’ her girlfriend, a friend advised Nneoma, whose life was clearly in a mess, to visit T.B. Joshua’s church in Lagos for help.

“When the Wise Man prayed for me, I felt an electric shock pulsating through my entire body” Nneoma recounted her experience. The ‘demon’ that spoke through the young Nigerian said it was ‘a great lesbian’ and had tormented her life.

In a remarkable twist of fate, Nneoma’s brother Emmanuel who had not seen her for three years was in The SCOAN congregation that very day. “I always used to put Nneoma’s picture on the screen of Emmanuel TV when T.B. Joshua prayed. I was so shocked to see her in the church that day,” Emmanuel explained, adding that he was hearing this confession from Nneoma for the very first time. T.B. Joshua pledged to support Nneoma in her education so as to enable her to start a new life.

In the wake of Nigeria’s recent anti-gay law, T.B. Joshua courted controversy in January 2014 when he declared that homosegxwals should not be condemned.

“Judge not, so that you will not be judged. We should talk to people to be saved and not to die. I mean, we should talk salvation, not condemnation. The Bible is my standard,” he said in a Facebook post.

“God hates sin, not sinners. When I say, ‘Do not judge so that you will not be judged’, I mean we should hate sin, not the sinner because sinners can change. If you have killed a sinner by judging him, there will be no opportunity for change. Sinners can be delivered. We should hate the act, not the people because our battle is not against flesh and blood but against the ‘spirit beings’ that cause all these acts.”
 
He clearly distanced himself however from the nation that he supported a homosegxwal lifestyle, saying, “If my parents were one, I would not have been given birth to. Those that are asking this question – if your parents were one, you would not have been given birth to. You that are reading me – if your parents were one, you would not be reading this today. God bless the reader and the hearer.”

“So, after waiting for some time in the house, I decided to go and meet her in the hosiptal. Before I got there, one of the staff said my daughter had left the hospital in the night, that my daughter said she was going to the church.
“So, I now quickly rushed to the church. When I got there, they said they did not see her in the church. They said I should sit down, that they would look for her. The pastors now rallied round before they told me that they saw her on the road, that she had an accident.”
“The second day, we just heard that she died. I thank God because she served God. Everybody knows about it. In the church they know her, at school they know her, in the compound they know her. I give God the glory and I know even though she is dead now, she is in the hands of the Lord. Praise God,” Mrs. Bassey said.
Meanwhile Deborah’s elder sisters, Mrs. Pearl Godswill and Ms Edna Bassey expressed shock over the death of their sister saying: “The only thing that I want to say is that it’s a pity that she went so soon. It’s so painful and disheartening. Her dream, everything is gone. But she is still in our memory and we say good night.”

German customs officials have intercepted a package addressed to the Vatican containing 14 condoms filled with cocaine, the finance ministry revealed on Sunday.

A ministry spokesman told AFP that a box packed with 340 grammes of cocaine valued at 40,000 euros ($55,200) was seized at the international airport in the eastern city of Leipzig in January.

The narcotics, posted from an unnamed South American country, were in liquid form and had been poured into the condoms and placed in the package addressed to the main postal centre at the Vatican.

“I can confirm the incident as reported” in the Bild am Sonntag newspaper, the spokesman said. “But we cannot say anything more about the case,” he added, saying it was now in the hands of local prosecutors.

Authorities handed the parcel to a police officer at the Vatican with the aim of laying a trap for a culprit who might try to claim it. But the box had remained there since January.

German investigators believe the intended recipient, who remains unknown, was likely tipped off that the package had been intercepted.

The Vatican office of Interpol is now working on the investigation with the Leizpig prosecutor’s office, which could not immediately be reached for comment.

One hundred and seven people have died after a boat capsized in a lake along the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ugandan police said on Monday after recovering more bodies.

The boat carrying mostly Congolese refugees tipped over early on Saturday in Lake Albert. Police say the boat was overloaded, a common factor in similar tragedies in the east African country.

The Albertine Rift region of Uganda is home to thousands of Congolese refugees who have fled strife at home over the years, particularly in Democratic Republic of Congo’s eastern region, which has been plagued by violence involving various rebel groups.

Police said that they estimate about 150 people were on the boat and that they expect no more survivors.

“Since the rescue operations began on Saturday we have recovered a total of 107 bodies and we think we have roughly accounted for every one although we can’t rule out more bodies being found since our working number of those on board was an estimate,” Charles Sebambulidde, the Albertine regional police commander told Reuters by phone.

“At this time our search is for bodies because we don’t think any more survivors are still out there.”

Lake Albert is about 160 km (100 miles) long and 30 km wide and is the northernmost of a chain of lakes in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the Rift Valley.

The boat began its journey at the northern end of the lake and was heading south to a landing site on the Ugandan shoreline when it ran into trouble at around mid-morning.

Popular with local traders and fishermen, boats – often flimsy and overloaded – criss-cross the lake linking the towns and villages that dot the shoreline.

Accidents are relatively common on Uganda’s lakes, which include Lake Victoria and Lake Edward, due to overloading, lack of maintenance and lax enforcement of safety standards.

After crying helplessly for nearly 24 hours inside a soak away pit, a day old-baby was over the weekend rescued from a pit in Olomore area of Abeokuta North local government of Ogun state.

An eyewitness said that residents of Surulere community in Olomore area of Abeokuta North woke up to a cry of a little baby coming from a soak away toilet behind a church in the area.
 
Residents said they'd heard the baby crying in the early hours of Saturday morning but could not link the cries to a particular direction. However, later in the day, around 6pm, the baby’s crying became more pronounced and they traced it to a soak-away pit. There, they found the baby, a boy, who was alive with his placenta uncut.
 
The pit slab cover had collapsed some years ago and had not been replaced. The damaged slab concrete saved the baby from going deep into the soak-away pit.
