63  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Ex-Vice President A. Abubakar As He Explains Why His Son Will Be Having A Dubai on: 5-04-2014 12:45 PM

I just like the fact that he is trying to make his life an open book, lol. But seriously, this will make you love him more. Btw, congrats Abba. His words;

Sometime in January, I was in London on business, and my children quickly arranged a trip to the Emirates Stadium for me. It was to emerge later that it was not a hastily arranged event, but a well planned outing, put together by children of a businessman and politician.

It turned out that my son, Abba, who was appointed to be my escort to the event, was the primary reason why the event was set up in the first place. Abba had a major announcement to make, and it was that while he was away fro home in America, he had found a lady he loved, and would love to bring her home as wife. I thought that was great news.

But on our way home, Abba subtly mentioned that they would like to get married as soon as possible, and that he and his fiancee would like a rather small wedding. At that point, I began to realize why I had been taken to the match, and smiled.

Parenting in the age of democracy is not easy. In my time, I remember that even as a strong willed child without a father figure, my mother, Kande, would put her foot down whenever she needed something to be done, and no child could argue with Kande when she had put her foot down. But in my time, we had learned to allow our children have a say in decision making, especially those which concerned them. It’s what I have termed democratic parenting.

Education, for example, is where my children tend to have a 70% say in where they wanted to go. Some choose to study in Nigeria, and some went abroad. But even when they went abroad, it was mostly to Europe. But Abba decided he was going to America, and he came back with an intelligent, beautiful American lady, whom I have already accepted as a daughter.

But Abba was yet to reveal his hand. It was when we were discussing wedding logistics, when he mentioned that his wife’s family wanted to hold the wedding in Dubai! I could smell an ambush coming, and the Nigerian parent in me was ready to argue.

“But Abba, you know I’m a Nigerian. We like doing these things at home…”

“But dad, you know the wife’s family decides these marriage things”

“I see. But does your wife agree to this?”

“My wife loves it! She is completely in love with the plans”

“Oh, I see…” At that moment, I realized that my children had known I would prefer to host the marriage in Nigeria and had come up with, and knowing that I wouldn’t have a choice, since the wife’s family usually decides wedding plans, found a way to ambush any resistance I could have raised. It was a well executed plan, and I could see that there was no way I could argue. Of course no man would want to argue with his new in-laws at the first turn.

So I went back and put together a counter strategy. The next morning, I called Abba and told him I agree with the entire plan. We can hold a wedding in Dubai, and I will attend with my family. I could see a smile of satisfaction spread across his face, an unspoken “we’ve got the old man.” I played along and discussed the plan with him in detail.

As we finished, and Abba was about the leave the room, I mentioned in an offhanded tone “Oh, Abba, I think after the wedding in Dubai, it would be good for your people in Jada to welcome your new wife to Nigeria. What do you think?”

Inside my heart, I smiled. Just like they had me a day earlier, I had had him too. He could not argue that it wasn’t proper for his extended family and town to meet his new wife. Of course he knew that would be the event where all my family, friends and associates will be invited.

The Nigerian parent in me smiled. Even in the age of family democracy, we have learned to adapt. So all family and friends are welcome to Jada, to witness the marriage reception of my son, and his beautiful wife.

According to family sources, the late Julius hurriedly left home at about 9 am after refusing the breakfast prepared by his wife, but ended up at  a hotel located off Dumez Road Benin City with his lover.
The deceased paid for an hour, popularly referred as short time, and it was after the expiration of the time that the hotel attendants went to alert them that their time was over but there was no response.

The hotel attendants had to force the door open only to discover the lifeless body of the man but the lady was nowhere to be found. It was further gathered that sperm was seen all over the man’s body, and a packet of Viagra was discovered in his pocket.

A 25 year old man, Ben James, from Croydon, South London, is claiming to have wooed hundreds of women into bed using the power of social media.

Ben actually reckons he has bedded over 200 women in a year - by chatting them up on Twitter. All he does is send out saucy messages, 20 tweets a day and he gets hundreds of replies from girls including full-frontal naked selfies. He claims two or three of those will ask him for sex and he has four or five 'tweethearts' on the go at any one time.

He has 74,000 followers on the social network and claims the key to success with the ladies is being cheeky enough to say what nobody else would dare. According to Ben:
'I'll send out a funny tweet, something edgy, and then it gets retweeted a few hundred times. Every retweet gets me a hundred or so followers, plus a few celebs, and from that I get a bunch of direct messages.
Girls send me hundreds of messages a day. Some send naked pictures, some ask for my
phone number; and some ask me straight out for sex. I normally have about four or five girls on the go at once then I get bored and find some others.
I have a reputation for being a man wh*re. But if they've got a big bum, I'm interested. I normally just tell a girl I want to sleep with her instead of making her think I want a relationship. I put in some graft for a day - take her to the zoo, or to the park to feed the ducks - and then the next day I move on to another one.'
Ben still lives with his healthcare worker mother and says she doesn't mind sharing her home with Britain's biggest tweetheart. He said:
'My mum doesn't mind. I'm very respectful, at the end of the day. She does think I only have one girl coming round all the time, not lots of different ones. My dad was a player like me when he was younger. He thinks I'm a bit of a legend - I think the apple didn't fall far from the tree.'
More pics of him plus the private messages he showed off too:

70  Forum / The Buzz Central / Daniel Ademinokan Writes Son an Open Letter On 6th Birthday on: 5-04-2014 11:56 AM

Nollywood movie director and estranged husband of Doris Simeon, Daniel Ademinokan yesterday wrote his son an open letter as the little boy clocked 6. The letter below;

Dear David,

I want to start by wishing you a very, very happy birthday. It feels just like yesterday when the doctor placed you in my arms. Its been 6 amazing, breath-taking and spectacular years. Wow! Dave, you truly changed my life forever. I vividly remember the way you starred at me from you crib wondering to yourself, “Who is this big black man starring down at me?” and gave me the smile that melted my heart. You have given me moments that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

On this very special day, I pray that God’s favor, love, peace, mercy and grace will follow you every single day of your life. You were created to change the world for good and to put a smile on the faces of all mankind. I pray that you will be a solution provider, a source of joy for all and a chronic lover of God. You shall be the head and never the tail. Nations will come to you for solutions to their problems and you will be the pillar they will lean on. They will identify the grace of God on your life.

Dave, you know I love you with every molecule in my body and I will gladly lay down my life for you. I promise to be the best father any child can ever hope for. Why won’t I aim for that when I have the best son that any parent can ever dream or hope for? Yes, you are the best son on the planet. I promise to be a much better father to you than my father ever was to me. I promise to put you on the right path to greatness following only God’s plan for your life. Not my plan...God’s plan.

Thank you for being a source of strength to your daddy. You are like a 20 year old stuck in the body of a 6 year old kid. You are not just a son but a great friend. You always make sure there is a smile on my face and even when I scold you for running around inside the house (because you know its a law. No running in the house!) with tears in your eyes, you still do silly things that make me burst into uncontrollable laughter. I am grateful to God for giving me a son like you. At just 6 years old, you have already made me a proud father. When you brought home your certificate of excellence from school as the top student in class, you were scared when you saw tears in my eyes. Dave, those were tears of joy because you are fulfilling all the promises God has made over your life.

David, seeing the smile on your face every morning is nothing but pure heaven. I love the way you dance to every beat. You even dance to the music of every commercial that comes on TV. The fact that you now dance like a white kid is more amusing and you know it but you still won’t stop when I tease you about it. We need to get your rhythm back dude. LOL. Maybe I threw out the Whiz Kid CD too soon. LOL. I love the way you laugh when I do my very horrible british accent and you say, “Daddy, that doesn’t sound british at all”. It makes you crack up anyway. Then you do yours that sounds like you’re from another planet.

In everything you do, always put God first, family next, then your career/work should follow. Don’t every change that order because you will regret it. Don’t let anything take God’s place in your life; not money, not family, not fame. Nothing. When you have God and you work according to his will and his way, everything in your life will fall in place. Do not place your career or wealth above your family because when the chips are down, the family at home is where you run to. Love your family and always say it. Tell them everyday. Say it like you’ve never said it before. Don’t hesitate to make that phone call to your family or send a text only to say, “I am thinking of you and I want to say I love you” or “Thank you for being there for me.”

BuBu, don’t be afraid to dream big and to chase those dreams. The world will tell you that your dreams are unachievable and lofty. Don’t worry, they can’t achieve it because they are not you. You can do anything you set your heart to do. Think it. Believe it. Achieve it. I tell you that every single day and we both know that we have achieved some phenomenal things in this life, right? Don’t wait for other people’s validation before you do what you have to do. As long as it is right with God and right in your heart, and the Holy Spirit in you does not question it, do it.

You don’t have to go the way of the multitude. Don’t be afraid to do something great because only a few people have dared to. The greatest people that ever lived and and changed the world were mostly the minority. They stepped away from the norm and probably broke all protocol. (We have talked about that before haven’t we?)

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Never be afraid to fall. But always remember that in every mistake made, there is a lesson to be learnt. Whenever you fall, there must be something you need to pick up from the floor that will help you as you get up and continue your journey through life. In life, you will make mistakes but always make sure that there is a serious lesson learnt from that mistake so you don’t make the same one again.

It’s important that you not only learn from your mistakes, but also from the mistakes that others have made. Including your father. You and I have spent several nights talking, laughing, playing, building space ships and eating potato chips with soda till 3am. You have seen me cry at night all by myself and you have been a source of strength even to your daddy.

Don’t be afraid to cry, even as a man. It helps to let it all out once in a while but as soon as the tears are gone, get back on your feet and face the world with your head held up high.
Value friendship. Good friendship. Never be selfish in your relationship with people. What you cannot tolerate, don’t do to others.

Don’t make promises you can’t keep. Learn to say no when you have to say no so you don’t get entangled in commitments that will become a burden to you eventually. Don’t let anybody change the core of who you are.

Don’t let circumstances or the world destroy the purity of your heart. The world is a complicated place to live in. Not because God made it so, but because the humans in it have made it complicated. In all you do, look for the beauty in the world, the honesty and the positive. Living in a complicated and struggling world does not mean you have to struggle and be complicated. Don’t get caught up in their vices. Don’t get involved with the madness around you. Fix your eyes on the positive. Fix your eyes on God. Greatness awaits you David. I have seen it. I can feel it. I know it.

I know you always joke about making all the money we will ever need when you’re 6 years old . Emm...dude, you’re 6 now. You wanna start paying part of the mortgage now? LOL. Remember that a portion of that money also goes to your mummy because she loves you very much. Remember, family is very important. But right now, focus on your school and keep your eyes on God.

When you look back on these words in Twenty years, I need you to know that they are from the heart of a man who is so proud to be your father.

David, you have touched the lives of everyone around you with your honesty, your purity, your smile and your dance moves. May God never take his eyes off you and may His peace always be with you. Happy Birthday David and I love you more than words can ever express.

From your daddy,

Daniel.

73  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Policeman’s Children Beats Pregnant Woman To Comma, Parents Support Them on: 5-04-2014 11:05 AM

Mrs. James on hospital bed
I hope this story is really not true. So much injustice taking place in this country because someone is a mere mobile policeman. Lord have mercy. I really just hope this is not true. And if it is, the man needs to leave their little Idimu community and its police station to make complaints at higher quarters. This is unheard of! The story;

Medical doctors in an undisclosed  private  hospital at Idimu area of Lagos,  are currently battling to save the life of a pregnant woman, Mrs. Gloria James who was allegedly  beaten to a state of coma by children of a Mobile Policeman attached to MOPOL 20, Inspector Richard Ekpo, last Friday.

Unfortunately for the woman, efforts by doctors to save her first  two months pregnancy failed .

Mrs. Gloria Oluwatomiwa James was  allegedly  first attacked by one of  the policeman’s  son identified simply as  Olorunda  in front of her shop at  Idimu Mammy market during a verbal confrontation.

Trouble, as gathered, started  when she  demanded for an apology from Olrunda whom she said stepped on her while he was going to smoke Indian hemp from a local dealer around her shop.

Eye witnesses told Crime Guard that  the  area is not only noted for smoking Indian hemp but also a haven for  cultists . Although, there had reportedly been several raids and subsequent arrests by policemen, but that has not stopped  the deed.

Rather than apologise, Olorunda, as  gathered, reportedly was not any remorseful but confronted her.  He allegedly pounced on the pregnant woman for daring to ask him to apologise and gave her a thorough beating.Consequently she was  rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Crime Guard  learnt also that when her husband went to report the ugly development to the Mobile Policeman, he was also attacked by his children.  The seriously wounded woman narrated how the incident happened to Crime  Guard on her hospital bed.

Explaining with difficulty owing to the bruises on her mouth she said, “Last Friday , I was sitting in front of my boutique because there was no light, when a youn g man came to buy   Indian hemp from one of the local dealers around.  As he was trying to  sneak  in to avoid being seen,he stepped on my feet. As I bent to  move his leg,he asked why  I was  touching him rather than apologise.

Even when I showed  him the sand from the sole of his slippers  that was still on my feet, he still insisted that he didn’t step on me. An argument ensued during which he threathened to deal ruthlessly with me if I opened my  mouth to talk again. Before I could respond, he slapped and started hitting me.

“Other  shop owners who came to rescue me from his grips withdrew immediately they discovered he was the one. This is because everyone is afraid of him in that area.  That was how he continued to hit me, even when I ran  inside my shop.   It took the intervention of a policeman in uniform to rescue me from him.”

She continued, “ As  I was nursing my wound , he came back and demanded that I should give him N18, 000 for his gold necklace.  I told him  I didn’t see any necklace on him when he came and before I knew it, he continued from where he stopped.  He went ahead to destroy my wares… At that point, I ran to a corner of the shop and picked up my phone to call my  husband. Immidiately he saw me, he dared me to call anyone ,boasting that he was the son of a Mobile Policeman and that nobody can do anything to him. When I had the opportunity, I sneaked out to  Idimu Police division to lodge a complain.

Police attitude

“Immediately  I told the policemen that I was beaten by the son of a Mobile Policeman, they looked the other way. Then, all of a sudden, I started feeling funny and started vomiting.  Rather than sympathise with me, the policemen at the counter drove me outside, saying I should not mess up the environment. I went outside as directed and sent a text message to my husband  to rush to the station that I was dying.

“When he came, one of the policemen  told him to take me to the hospital. Even when he appealed  to the policemen to effect the arrest of their colleague’s son who was still destroying things in my shop, they refused.

“Out of pity , one of the policemen  whom I contacted earlier drove in with a van and voluntered to take me to the hospital. We, however , went to my husband’s shop first to take some money. On our way back, we stopped by Inspector  Ekpo’s house to inform him of his son’s action. But his wife walked us out of  her compound.

Another attack

Immediately we came out of the barracks gate, we were attacked by Olorunda, his brothers and their friends. They hit my husband with dangerous objects. In the process I fell down. They kicked me continuously on the stomach until I passed out, only to wake up to find myself in the hospital a week after.”

Collaborating her claim, her husband alleged that when he went to report the case at Idimu division, he was thrown inside the cell on the instruction of the Mobile Policeman whose children manhandled his wife. I was released after four days.

“Again, when I went to open my shop, Inspector Akpo came again with his children to attack me, asking who told me to open the shop. I was teargased inside a supermarket where I had run into to take refuge. Since then, I have not opened my shop,” he lamented.

Following this development, Crime Guard reliably gathered that after getting a strongly worded petition, Force Headquarters, Abuja ordered the immediate arrest of Inspector Ekpo while his children are presently on the run.

74  Forum / The Buzz Central / I Keep my Dreadlocks as a Vow – Daddy Showkey on: 5-04-2014 11:01 AM

Popular musician, Daddy Showkey, in a new interview with Punch has explained why he wears dreadlocks even though he's not a reggae artiste.
Excerpts:
What is the story behind your dreadlocks yet you are not a reggae artiste?
I have had this dread for over 22 years. I don’t have to be a reggae musician to wear dreads. Reggae is from Jamaica, galala is Nigerian. There are reggae musicians that don’t have dreadlocks. My own dreadlock is a vow between me and God. I told God that if I, a nobody from Ajegunle,  become someone that the world would know, I would not cut my hair again. It is a vow that I made. Many people do it for fashion but I don’t do it for fashion. God has kept his side of the vow, so it is left for me to keep my part of the vow.
You claim not to take alcohol anymore. Is it true?
I stopped taking alcohol about a year and five months now. I have found out that there is time for everything. There comes a time you have to stay away from some things because at the end of the day, if you have any illness, you would be left alone to deal with it.  I don’t drink alcohol and I do not smoke again. I have never smoked Indian hemp in my life.

75  Forum / The Buzz Central / Find Out What Makes A Good Modeling Portfolio on: 5-04-2014 09:06 AM

Before putting together a modeling portfolio, it is important to know what type of modeling you can do. A portfolio of a Freelance model would probably include a variety of different types of photos, while a portfolio of a high fashion model would have high fashion images, and so on. So be realistic from the very onset of your career to avoid any setbacks or rejections due to the fact that you are attempting to enter a type of modeling that is not best suited for you.
You should know that your modeling portfolio is a true first impression of yourself as a model. A portfolio will always be the first thing that agencies and clients look at before they even choose to see you in person. And for that reason, it is highly recommended to focus on the building of an impressive modeling portfolio that will enable you to establish a successful career as a model.

Pay attention to the quality of the photos you choose to include in your portfolio. These photos need to impress agencies and clients alike and make you stand out from the rest. So always aim to project the best possible image of yourself.

Here are a few things to remember when building a modeling portfolio:
It is better to have fewer photos that are great, than having more photos that are of poorer quality. So the rule of thumb is that less is more. As a new model, your portfolio should have 6 - 12 photos, especially when you are presenting yourself to a new agency. As an established model, your portfolio should ideally have anywhere between 10 and 25 photos.

Always keep in mind that the purpose of a modelling portfolio is not only to show your good looks, but it should also demonstrate your ability to portray different characters, age ranges and personality. For this reason you should include good headshots without makeup, these are called Polaroids. It's also important to have good body shots, with swimwear or tight-fitting clothes, especially if you plan to apply to the larger model markets.

In terms of the type of photos to include in your model portfolio, there are no specific rules that you should follow, but just remember to keep your portfolio as professional as possible by only including high quality photos. Do not feel pressured to include pictures where you are in a swimsuit or lingerie, unless that is the type of modeling you want to work in. As long as you know what type of modeling you are looking to do, that should be enough to give you some direction as to what kind of pictures to include.

Visit www.modelcart.com to create a good modeling portfolio and promote yourself internationally.

77  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Fashola Finally Agrees To Reduce LASU School Fees on: 5-04-2014 09:02 AM

A protracted crisis at the Lagos State University over fee hikes that have outraged students and their parents and also led to protests has reached resolution point with Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State now proposing a reduction of the tuition to accommodate everybody.

Fashola made the proposal during a meeting with the protesting students. The students, under the auspices of the Education Rights Campaign (ERC), are demanding reversal of the hiked fee. They have staged several rallies and protests to press their case.

After a fruitfuf deliberation, Fashola agreed to reduce the hiked fee. He teased the students and members of the ERC to consult among themselves and propose an acceptable reduction in other to carry all along.

One of the protester claimed that, following the controversial hike, the school has continually had a low number of choice applications from candidates in the annual Unified Tertiary Examinations. Report has it that, this year, no disciplinary faculty in the institution has up to 500 students.

“This year, for example, there are only 15 students in the Faculty of Law,” the source said. He added that the institution may be considering the option of merging departments and laying off some of the lecturers due to the unfortunate decline in the number of students wishing to enroll at the university.

The government is ready to make sacrifices, considering that Lagos is a big metropolis with large population

78  Forum / The Buzz Central / God Can Still Give Me Another Wife –– Ebenezer Obey on: 5-04-2014 08:59 AM

Evangelist Obey Fabiyi who turned 72 recently shares some life experiences in this interview with Punch's ADEOLA BALOGUN. Checck out some interesting excerpts below:
It is often said that anything after 70 years is bonus. How do you feel at 72?
Well, at 72, I want to first and foremost give thanks to God Almighty who made it possible for me to be alive. It’s the wondrous work of God and at 72, I feel great. I am a very happy person because the Lord has been so good to me, and I thank God for who he is because he’s been my all in all and he has seen me through different phases of life: from the time I was born, to when I started talking, schooling and working. I also thank him for bringing out the gift in me and establishing me as a star. I feel great and happy – and I can’t even thank him enough.

When you started the special appearances, people thought maybe Obey was probably broke.
I’ve said it and I am still saying it. There are two things we have to define here; what do we actually need here on earth? We don’t need all the vanities of this world, yet God created them so that we could be comfortable. All my needs, God has already provided. I don’t worry myself. I’m at peace with my God. When I clocked 70, I said, “Father, I give you all glory.” When I look back, all I say is “Father, thank you.” There are no more rivers for me to cross; I am not running after anything. I have put my life in God’s hands. So, who says I’m broke? It’s because they don’t know the God I’m serving. The God I’m serving is a good provider. I have come to realise God is faithful, so there’s no running helter-skelter.

Do you still miss your wife?

Oh, there’s no way I won’t miss her. But I know she’ s gone to be with the Lord. My wife would have been 69 years old on March 24 if she was alive. We would have been expecting to celebrate her 70th birthday next year. But the Lord is a good Lord. On March 23, we had my first great granddaughter. My granddaughter gave birth to my first great granddaughter and I am clocking 72 in a few days. So, we are in a thanksgiving mood.

How do you cope without a woman in the house?
There is nothing God cannot do. He is able to take care and be in charge of everything. I am not lonely. Immediately my wife went to be with the Lord, my son and his wife moved here. So with my grandchildren around me and people taking care of me, I feel great.

What of getting married again?
At 72, I can’t start looking for a wife. I’m well taken care of and occupied. I am not lonely and I doubt whether any woman would be able to cope with my busy lifestyle. My late wife got used to it and for years, she was able to take care of our home.

Or you are afraid of what people will say?
Afraid? Can someone of my age be afraid of what anybody will say? Let people say whatever they want to say, I have my life to live. I’ve not given marriage a thought and that’s the truth. I’m busy in the church, with mentoring and special appearances. By the Grace of God, I’m oganising a crusade to celebrate my 72nd birthday.

People thought if Pastor Kumuyi could marry another wife after he lost his wife as a church leader, you too could follow in his footsteps. It is a thing of choice. It’s the Holy Spirit that leads every church leader. What Pastor Kumuyi did is a very good thing. I don’t feel like doing that and I’m happy. Apart from that, no woman can cope with my schedule. Well, God can do anything; he can provide someone to take her place, you can’t rule that out because we are still alive and well.
