1  Forum / The Buzz Central / Jay Z disses Drake in Jay Electronica’s freestyle track titled “We Made It.” on: 25-03-2014 05:27 PM

According to MTV Base, The diss comes after Drizzy told Rolling Stone magazine about Jay Z: "It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references. I would love to collect at some point, but I think the whole Rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny."

Jigga clearly couldn’t let this one go. In the freestlye Jigga responded: "Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk Silly me, rappin’ ’bout sh-t that I really bought While these rappers rap about guns that they ain’t shot And a bunch of other silly sh-t that they ain’t got!" Do we smell some beef?

2  Forum / The Buzz Central / Check This Out, Mobile Dad app helps military fathers stay connected with family on: 25-03-2014 05:16 PM

Military dads who are separated from their children for extended periods can feel a sense of disconnection that’s hard to reverse once they come home. But a new phone app called Mobile Dad — developed and tested by University of Michigan researchers — is helping to keep fathers
engaged while they’re away and to ease the transition back into family life.

Mobile Dad provides fathers with regular updates on milestones their kids should be experiencing and offers suggestions for how to handle a variety of situations, such things as coping with crying babies or what to do if they feel themselves slipping into depression.

Shawna J. Lee, an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Michigan, and her colleagues came up with the idea of the app at the request of the U.S. Air Force, which is concerned that fathers’ emotional struggles could affect their work.

Mobile Dad “pushes information out to dads twice a week,” Lee says. “It’s a little snippet about your baby’s development. If you have a six-month-old, that’s about the time they start eating solid food, [so] it will say ‘visit the mobile app to find out more about solid food.’”

Mobile Dad, which has so far been available only to select families for testing, will be available to the public in April, Lee said.

5  Forum / The Buzz Central / "Inside Boko Haram Enclave", A Former Female Boko Haram Captive Tells Her Story on: 25-03-2014 01:05 PM

According to Sahara Reporters, The Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Service (BBC) has aired the voice of a female escapee from Boko Haram's captivity who painted a graphic picture of the operations of the sect.

The former captive who was identified as Nineteen-year-old Janet by the BBC's English language
website was quoted as saying:

"They went to Gwoza and brought five people to the camp. They started slaughtering them in front of me. Then they ordered me to slit one of their throats. I refused. I told them I couldn't do it. Then the wife of the leader of the group killed him instead."

On the Hausa service of the BBC she said "I was taken to a house . They beat me in the head with a gun . I was cooking for them. They would eat the food and give me the leftover. When they went to fight soldiers in Gwoza they took me with them with bulllets tied to my back. I heard bullets flying over my heads in all directions."

The Young woman said the Boko Haram fighters used to hide by the hills when the soldiers come making it difficult for the army to see them. She added that the fighters dig holes for burial of their dead before they go to fight.

"I knew almost all the people in the group I was with. I knew them from my home area," Janet says according the BBC English Website.

"I was really angry and when I couldn't keep quiet any longer, I said to one of them, 'When we were at home you would even visit me and I respected you. So why are you doing this to me?'"

The site also published the story of another escapee from Boko Haram's captivity, 23-years-Old Liatu.

She told the BBC that she was captured last year by the insurgents, who killed all muslims working for government on the spot as they had warned them against working for gorvernment before.

"They asked me if I am Christian or Muslim. I said I am Christian," said 23-year-old Liatu, as she recalled her ordeal in the hands of Boko Haram.

"On the 11th day [in captivity], they brought a man to me and said that he liked me and I should convert to Islam so that he can marry me."

"They were slitting people's throats with knives. Both women and men were killed - especially the men who didn't agree to fight for them," she said.

"Those that tried to escape were shot but they hardly ever used their guns to kill. They usually used knives. About 50 people were killed right in front of me."

"One of the captives stood up and said: 'You only die once. Who is ready to make a run for it?' Six of us jumped into one of the Boko Haram vehicles in the camp - a Volkswagen Golf."

"They chased us on motorbikes, shooting at the car until we got close to Bama town. Then they left and we got out of the car to continue on foot as there was a curfew in place. It was only then that I realised the three people on the backseat had all been shot dead."

7  Forum / The Buzz Central / Malaysia Airlines to Families: 'None of Those On Board Survived' on: 24-03-2014 05:59 PM

The families of passengers aboard the missing Malaysia Airlines jet have been sent text messages telling them that the plane has been "lost."

"We have to assume beyond reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board have survived," the message said. "We must now accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the southern Indian Ocean."

8  Forum / The Buzz Central / Train Derailment at O'Hare Leaves 30 Injured on: 24-03-2014 05:33 PM

According to nbc Chicago, Thirty-two people were injured — none seriously — when an eight-car Chicago Transit Authority train continued through the end of the platform and struck the escalators leading to the terminals at O'Hare International Airport early Monday morning.

"The train actually climbed over the last stop, jumped up on the sidewalk and then went up the stairs and escalators," Chicago Fire Department Commissioner Jose Santiago said of the crash, which happened just before 3 a.m. on the CTA's Blue Line.

He said it was immediately unknown if the train's motorman had some sort of medical problem prior to the crash but said that operator was walking, talking and answering questions afterward.

CTA spokesman Brian Steele, speaking to reporters at 5 a.m., said it was too early to say what caused the crash but said video footage was being reviewed and personnel were being interviewed. He said there were no immediate indications that equipment issues played a role in the crash.

The O'Hare station has three "pockets" for trains, and each has a bumping post at the end -- a large piece of metal with a shock absorber mechanism behind it, Steele explained.

"It appears as though the train would have been going faster than a train normally berthing at this station would be," he said. "Normally a train pulls in at just a couple miles and hour and pulls into the station. Obviously this train did not stop so speed could be a factor here."

11  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Ghana Parliament Asked To Increase Sex Age To 18 on: 22-03-2014 11:13 AM

Participants at a two-day workshop in Sunyani have appealed to Parliament to amend some portions of the Criminal Code to increase the age of consent to sex from 16 to 18.

The amendment, they explained would be in line with the 18 years minimum legal age of marriage
as enshrined in the 1992 Ghana’s Fourth Republican Constitution.

The appeal formed part of a 12-point Communiqué signed by 16 of the 40 participants, and issued at the end of the workshop organized by the Sunyani Municipal Office of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE).

The participants, drawn from the Sunyani Municipality and Sunyani West District Assembly, comprised chiefs, media, Assembly-members, as well as representatives from the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service and other stakeholders, attended.

The workshop was on the theme “Stop Child Early and Forced Marriages (CEFMs) Now.” The communiqué indicated the need for Parliament to review laws on child protection, to make them more punitive to deter “irresponsible people from engaging in this awful behaviour”.

It cited extreme poverty, obnoxious cultural and religious practices, illiteracy and gender inequalities among the major factors of CEFMs in the Brong-Ahafo Region and Ghana as a whole.

The communiqué, therefore, entreated government to pursue policies that could empower Ghanaian parents financially, to take full responsibility of their children’s welfare and development.

It urged the central government and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to deliver on their commitment to improve gender equality, by implementing pragmatic policies that could end practice of the menace, to transform the lives of thousands of girls in the country.

The communiqué stressed the need for government and development partners to adequately resource state institutions like the NCCE, the Department of Births and Deaths, DOVVSU and other girl-child welfare stakeholder organisations, to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

It also called on all meaningful Ghanaians, law enforcement agencies, policy makers, child-right advocates and all stakeholders to stand up against CEFMs and all forms of abuse against children in Ghana.
