1  Forum / The Buzz Central / An Old Man’s View on DAVIDO on: 1-04-2014 09:35 AM

As I sit in an exciting salon cutting my hair, I watch a slew of Davido’s videos on Channel O. Now let me state very clearly that I have never expected this particular artiste to hold the publics attention this long. I had looked at him as an average talent being pushed by the superior financial fire power of his father and other backers. Or what else would you expect when Africa’s richest man attended his debut album launch.

So I listened and just moved on. But his Gobe, Skelewu and the one that he did in a farming/ village setting have more than convinced me that this is a great talent.

As I watch these videos, I see a young man who is thoroughly enjoying himself. One that would do nothing else even if his life depended on it. The last time I saw these kind of passion in his art was watching a young Shina Peters on stage. Davido in his performances have more than convinced me that he is very clear as to his position in life.

The Skelewu beats is the quintessential ‘less is more’. I hear very little lyrics but a pulsating and very skinny beats that tug at your heart forcing you to move your legs to the rhythm. The song hits you at your most vulnerable, querying your refusal to stand up and dance, first urging you but later forcefully throwing you to the dance floor. The simpleness of the whole arrangement belies it’s perfection. It reminds you of the need to be one with your environment. It pushes you to seek a partner with which you will share this temporary madness. The excitement it exudes is so infectious that if you don’t immediately share it, you could explode.

You should see my little daughter, Zara dance to the beats. She is only 5 but has perfectly memorized not only the lyrics but the dance steps. Any unfortunate visitor that comes in must be forced to watch the Skelewu choreography in my house. Refusal to watch will earn you a scowl and a rebuke from her and in extreme cases a warning that you should not come to the house again.

I also just listened to Gobe. The playfulness of it all is what got me. This is an artistes that is not taking life too seriously and begs us to do the same. The commercial chorus line is striking and the beats are anything but dexterous. The only flaw is the storyline behind the video, showing a small resemblance to what R.kelly had done before. But notwithstanding it gave me a new respect for this artiste.

Davido will evolve from teen sensation to a serious artiste as can be seen in his Gobe track. That is usually the albatross of most artistes. Very few cross that line unscathed. Artistes like tuface did and are still holding to their audience.

Davido must begin now to start courting the mature audience to ensure that he achieves legendary stature which is beckoning on him.

3  Forum / The Buzz Central / 'I'm a supporter of polygamy; most African men are polygamous'- Jibola Dabo on: 1-04-2014 01:27 AM

Nollywood actor Jibola Dabo, who has five children from different women said in a recent interview with TheNetng that he's an ardent supporter of polygamy and believes that most men in Africa are polygamous in nature. Read what he said below and tell us if you agree with him...
"People misunderstands what polygamy means. I am an ardent supporter of polygamy. Every single man, mostly from Africa, is polygamous in nature. We are just deceiving ourselves. Polygamy means when you see a woman you love and desire, you marry her with the consent of your already married wife and bring her home. It's not when you have one wife at home, then you have others scattered in different other places, that is not polygamy. And not when you have three wives and you cannot take care of one, that is an insult to polygamy. There are so many women out there who just want to have a man as an umbrella, but we keep saying one man one woman. Yet the women keep suffering. We all know that we have much more women in this world than men, the ratio is too high.
My father had six wives, my uncle that brought me up had so many wives also. What I am saying is that it is not illegal, we are not in America. Ironically, the white man would have one wife and still keep so many mistresses. If not, there wouldn't have been an English word for concubines. That means it exists in their culture. Which is better, concubines or wives? In the days when polygamy was well respected, diseases were not rampant. It is now that when men hide to do it that strange segxwally transmitted diseases have become the order of the day" he said.
"I have only one wife but I have children from more than one woman. And its not because I had mistresses, its because I have lived in various countries, including America, France, Britain etc. I am this person that any woman that comes to me would always want to have something for me. I have had experiences. I was with a woman and years later, a child was brought to me, a child I didn't know when it was conceived". he added

6  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Homeless single mom jailed for leaving her kids in car to go on job interview on: 31-03-2014 11:30 PM

What a heartbreaking mugshot. A homeless single mom, 35 year old Shanesha Taylor, who struggled to make ends meet is in jail after she left her two sons, a 2 year old and 6 month old in her car while she went on a job interview.
Madamenoire.com reports…

The Scottsdale, Ariz. native was arrested after she left her young sons in a hot SUV that was locked with the windows cracked as she went for a job interview at an insurance company. A passerby heard Taylor’s youngest child crying and called police. When they arrived, Taylor returned to her car 45 minutes after police got to the scene, and when police arrested her, the two boys were reportedly “crying and sweating profusely.” Taylor told police that she was homeless and needed the work, and because she couldn’t find someone to watch her kids, she had to take them with her. This event occurred on March 20. Continue…

The response to her story has been split, with some people saying that while she did make a mistake, she was simply trying to find work to feed her kids. Others say, she left two kids in a hot car, it’s wrong, dangerous, and she should have known better. Well, those in support of Taylor have actually set up a fundraising campaign on YouCaring.com to help raise money for Taylor and her kids, who are in the custody of Child Protective Services at this time as she awaits charges. The goal was only $9,000, which according to the person who set up the fundraising campaign, Amanda Bishop, would be put into an account for her family. However, the fundraiser has brought in a whopping $63,000.

Taylor is still in jail while her children remain in protective custody.

Was she wrong to leave her kids in the car to go look for a job? What’s your thoughts on this?

7  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Etisalat Nigeria Sacks Over 2000 Staffs Nationwide on: 31-03-2014 11:40 AM
Telecommunications company, Etisalat Nigeria Friday sacked over two thousand permanent staffs across the country. The sacked workers were paid off our source say.

The Telecom operator seeks to hire adhoc staff to run the operations of the company as the company is said broke and can no longer retain the permanent work force.

Most of those sacked have expressed surprise and disappointment over the development which has thrown them into the already saturated unemployment market.
“We were asked to leave and our cheques handed to us yesterday, it is unfortunate that I am again back to the Job market” a source who does not want to be mentioned revealed.

“They want to recruit contract staff/new agents and they can no longer run the cost of paying those of us that are permanent staff, they claim.”
Another source went on to say the management of the company is insisting on hiring contract staff to replace those sacked but “it is unfortunate they had to send us home the way they did”

She continued, “Do we even have labour laws in this country? How can you wake over night and ask people to go without months of notice, at least for us to be prepared for the worst”
Some of the reasons by the management for the sack is that the company can no longer manage the wage bill and the company is going through financial crisis and can’t afford to keep permanent staff, hence the need for the sack.

In Lagos alone, over 1,200 were sacked while more than 800 were asked to go home in states like kano.
The company has also terminated their graduate trainee program for all fresh graduates. The Company sent out emails that the program has ended without prior notice.

Some members of the graduate trainee had spent years with the company only to receive mails about their sack at the close of business.
Attempt to speak to the management of Etisalat to confirm or deny the allegations has been unsuccessful so far as at the time of filing this report, we’ve sent mails and no response.

Fierce Lady Gaga turned heads yet again when she showed up in this typical Gagaesque outfit for her 28th birthday party after party. Bearing angel wings and a tinsel-like leotard, Gaga seemed composed as she tottered along on massive pink platforms, unfortunately disaster soon struck.
After hours of partying at a small bar, the hitmaker took a tumble in her massive shoes and was spotted falling to the ground after stumbling on a step. Gaga tried to quickly get back up by holding on to the

doorway but was hampered by her huge shoes.
This isn’t the first time she’s embarrassingly taken a tumble in her huge platform shoes tho. See more pics after the jump plus her latest jaw dropping outfit

46 year old Nigerian lesbian asylum seeker in the UK, Adejumoke Apata (pictured above), says she risks a death sentence if she is deported to Nigeria.

Ms Apata says she fled Nigeria in 2004 and claims that her girlfriend who refused to go with her, was brutally murdered by vigilantes in 2012.

Before she left Nigeria, Adejumoke said she was subjected to homophobic torture, persecution and a brutal arrest after she was exposed as a gay woman. She claims she was also sentenced to death by stoning for being a lesbian. Continue...

Adejumoke, who is facing deportation, doesn't want to be deported and has started a campaign aimed at persuading people to sign a petition against her deportation.

I want to remain in the UK in order to contribute positively to the society and support my girlfriend, who I am now engaged to," Adejumoke said in a YouTube video.

10  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / “Why Do Churches Charge High Fees In School?” - Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor on: 31-03-2014 06:36 AM

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor in this interview with PUNCH’s Ozioma Ubabukoh, bares his mind on controversies surrounding churches, the Boko Haram insurgency and sundry issues… Excerpts;
People claim churches milk the poor and live big on them. What’s your take on this?It is cheap to criticise; even to criticise what you don’t understand. Let me put it this way, in every good thing, you would always find some bad people. The church is the greatest institution that has made the country today. If you look back, you would find out that the church brought education to Nigeria. The church brought hospital to Nigeria. I think the church should be given credit for that. People don’t understand what they say about the church milking the poor. Can a poor man have money to pay tithe? A man who has no job, can he pay tithe? No, he won’t be able to pay. So how do you milk a man who has no milk? In a church, you have both the poor and the rich. It is generally not the poor that finance the church.
It is those with the means. A man, for example, who earns N10,000, how much is his tithe? His tithe is N1,000. A man who earns N500,000, how much is his tithe? His tithe is 10 per cent which is N50,000. How much would you milk from a man who pays a tithe of N1000? We won’t say things like this usually because the church is a level-playing ground. Whether you are poor or you are rich, God sees everybody as equal. It is because of a question like this that sometimes, we have to take time to analyse things. I even hear people say that the poor give money to start schools, but their children cannot go to the schools.

How will they give this money when they are poor? The truth is that, the people who actually give this money are those who have the means to do so. Those people make it possible for churches to start schools. Now again, why do churches charge high fees in school? You didn’t ask me that, but I’m just throwing that in free.

People must understand that there is a standard. The church wants to maintain the standard. In those days, some people will say that when missionaries started school, it was free. Don’t forget that those missionaries were being financed from different places. Who is financing us today? We are financing ourselves. If I got free financing, why won’t we make education free? You must also understand that at the time, the cost of living was not the way it is today.

The educational system of Nigeria is in serious trouble, so we need to up the standards. And to do that, you should be able to hire the best hands. If you hire the best, how do you pay them? Where do you get the money to pay them? How do you put the right infrastructure in place? How do you do many of the things that need to be done? How do you run the generators? Why do you think we have so many poor people in the church and many rich pastors? Remember that the pastors are pasturing both the poor and the rich. They are all in the same assembly. Both the poor and the rich, those who have the means in the church take time to be kind to their pastors. That is something most people don’t realise. They give their pastors money, food and different things.

For example, a member of the church goes to his pastor and says, ‘I feel led to give you a car. Take this car.’ Now the pastor has a car. Did he steal it? As I sit here talking to you now, I can tell you that I am training almost 100 people in institutions of higher learning. Nobody is going to broadcast that. On every 26th of December, I organise what I call poverty alleviation. I have been doing it now for about eight years.

11  Forum / The Buzz Central / Why We Snatch People’s Husbands–Nollywood Actress Reveals on: 31-03-2014 06:23 AM

Nollywood has almost become an industry where actresses get married to men who have already been hooked by another woman. Even though there have not been any cogent reasons given for that, an actress seems to have now revealed why they do that.

Few Months Back, Yoruba actress, Bose Arowosegbe, who herself picked a married man as husband, disclosed why they destroy peoples’ homes.

According to her, they engage in such because single men in Nigeria are not matured enough to handle actress. She explained that most single guys think actresses are harlot, unlike their married counterpart.

Hear her, “I am married to a married man too. I have not told anyone this before. Other journalists I have met were fed the story that my husband is abroad when he has always been in the country.

“Most single men out there are not matured enough to handle the fact that actresses are normal women. They believe we are harlots to be used and dumped. I believe they are too immature to handle the life around us. They are easily affected by things they read and hear about us, and also things they see on screen about us.

“But married men are matured to handle all this. They listen to us instead of listening to gist about us. They seem to understand women better. Besides, they are more caring, gentler and wiser.”

12  Forum / Politics / Buba Marwa Dumps APC, Returns To PDP on: 31-03-2014 04:53 AM

Former Military Governor of Lagos State and a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, has formally defected to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with his teeming supporters.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the decision by Marwa to defect to PDP followed a meeting held on Sunday with his supporters in Yola after their complaint of being marginalised in the APC.

In his speech, Marwa accused APC’s national leadership of handing over the party in the state to Gov Murtala Nyako.

Marwa, who contested the last state governorship election with Nyako under defunct CPC, said his supporters were marginalised during the recent APC membership registration in the state.

He noted that as members of the legacy parties that formed APC he would not accept a situation where Nyako, who came from PDP, would just take over the party from “the original founders in the state”.

Marwa said he would dialogue with the PDP so as to ensure their fair share in the party.

Others, who spoke at the meeting shortly before the voice vote, insisted that they should leave for PDP their original party.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) recalls that Marwa left PDP for defunct CPC in 2011 after the conduct of the PDP governorship primaries which nominated Gov. Murtala Nyako to run for second term. (NAN)

The minister was said to have briefed the President of his intention to contest for the Rivers governorship election in 2015, to which he got the approval of the President to challenge the growing profile of the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

The resignation which is expected to take effect from April 1, 2014 has gotten the approval of the president.

But another source within the Villa, confirmed that Wike’s resignation will be announced next week Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
