19-years old 2013 Miss Universe Ghana, Hanniel Jamin, has sued Roberta Annan Consulting (RAC), organizers of beauty pageant in Ghana, for breach of contract.

Hanniel, after winning the pageant in May 2013, was to receive GH¢5,000 worth of wardrobe, a New York Film Academy scholarship, a management and public relations deal, and a year’s gym membership, monthly fees and a trip to the world event in addition to other attractive packages.

However, Nigeriafims.com learnt that she has not received her full prize package. She also alleged that when she was processing her documents to travel to Russia to represent Ghana at the Miss Universe World event, the organizers made her sign a document which suggested she had received her prizes.

Hanniel was in May 2013 crowned winner of the 2013 edition of the Miss Universe Ghana pageant at a ceremony held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

According to speculation, this is the second time a queen had taken organizers of the Miss Universe Ghana to court over the prize package.
The first was Miss Gifty Ofori, Miss Universe Ghana 2012, who took the organizers to court last year after she came out to complain that she did not receive her full prize package.

2  Forum / Sports / 2014 W/Cup Ambrose: Eagles will stop Messi on: 18-04-2014 07:31 AM

Celtic star Efe Ambrose has backed the Super Eagles to shine at Brazil 2014, saying the African champions will stop top stars like Lionel Messi of Argentina on their way to glory.
In an interview with Africanfootball.com, Ambrose who has helped Celtic to another Scottish league title says Argentina star, Messi is a familiar foe, having faced the Barcelona player in the UEFA Champions League. “It makes no difference, it is the same player whether for club or country. Nigeria have a lot of good defenders who can stop Messi and any other striker in the world.”
The Celtic strongman would not say which round the Eagles would get to at the World Cup. “I can’t say precisely, but by God’s grace we  will do well and take it game by game, then we will see where it would take us.”
On his second season in Scotland with Celtic, Ambrose said, “It has been a wonderful and great experience for me since I came to Scotland,” adding that the Scottish league has made him a better player.
Efe Ambrose is one of the Super Eagles players sure of a place in Nigeria’s squad for the Mundial. He was part of the squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013.

3  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Soyinka, others decry influx of foreigners on: 18-04-2014 07:18 AM

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka some academics and researchers have expressed worry over unchecked influx of foreigners into Nigeria’s territory.

This is contained in a communiqué issued on Thursday at the end of a three- day colloquium organised by the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding.

Soyinka, who is the chairman of CBCIU, was among the participants at the colloquium which also had Christian leaders, Islamic  leaders and  traditional religions adherents in attendance.

Some of the scholars who presented papers at the colloquium were: Dr. Bimbo Adesoji,  of Department of History, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Dr. Enoch  Gbadegesin, Department of Religious Studies, OAU  and Dr. Abiodun Agboola, also from OAU.

Influx of foreigners has been  identified as a cause of to the incessant  bombings and killing of  innocent Nigerians across the country.

They tasked security agencies in the country to properly man the borders  and check those coming in and going out of the country. This, they said, would  improve the security situation in the country.

The communique reads in part, “As a society, there is a need to check the trend of ‘politicisation of religion’ and ‘religionisation of politics’ i.e. the unhealthy mixing of religion with politics in our system.

“Factors responsible for violent crisis and insurgency are identified as lying in hardline tendencies engendered by wrong education, social and economic dislocation, poverty and  social disadvantages.

Others are: political  partisanship, unchecked influx of foreigners into the country especially through the border in the Northern part of the country and idleness and unemployment among Nigerian youths.”

They added  that religious  tension in some states in the country was caused by mutual suspicion while urging adherents of various religious organisations to refrain from unnecessary anger.

Stating that  religions are not obstruction to human progress, they agreed that various religions had promoted developments at different times in Nigeria saying missionaries’ intervention in education sector contributed immensely towards making education  available to many people in Nigeria.

The scholars and other participants also suggested that peaceful coexistence among various ethnic groups and religious groups  would  be facilitated through the promotion of justice, fair hearing, humility and forgiveness.

The communiqué reads further,  “There is the need to introduce and enforce the concept of compulsory education which will make school attendance mandatory for children between the ages of six and 16 .“Parents who keep children within compulsory school age will then be treated as offenders against the law.

4  Forum / The Buzz Central / UK activists campaign for Nigerian preacher’s deportation on: 18-04-2014 07:10 AM

A Nigerian preacher, Helen Ukpabio, a self styled witch hunter, could be banned from the UK following calls to Home Secretary Theresa May that she is a risk to youngsters.

Ukpabio who founded the controversial African Evangelical Franchise Liberty Foundation Gospel Ministries in Nigeria, has published her views around the demonic possession of children in several books and films. She is thought to currently be in the UK.

UK campaigners are urging for Ukpabio, known as ‘Lady Apostle’, to be deported and banned from returning to the UK on the grounds her sermons are harmful to the public, the guardian uk reports .

The Witchcraft and Human Rights Information Network, the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales and the International Humanist and Ethical Union have now written to the Home Secretary in an attempt to get Ukpabio deported under the Immigration Act 1971 – on the grounds her presence here is not conducive to the public good.

In a letter to May, the campaigners warn, ‘Whilst the Government has moved swiftly to block entry to the UK for Islamic preachers whose presence is considered as harmful to the public good, there have been no cases of Christian pastors facing such measures.’

The groups are hoping the pastor will be banned from returning to the UK once she has completed her final tour.

Gary Foxcroft, of the WHRIN said Ukpabio was one of a number of preachers who regularly travelled to the UK,Daily Mail reports.

He told the Independent, ‘The fundamental problem is that churches need to be regulated. Anyone can set up a church tomorrow in their own garden shed with no commitment to child protection or making their accounts transparent or any theological training.’

Bob Churchill, of the IHEU, also told the newspaper, ‘It is important that the UK authorities send a message to the world that branding children, or anyone, as a witch is beyond the pale.’

5  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / A Killer is Spared Execution after his Victim's Mother Suddenly Forgave Him on: 18-04-2014 05:16 AM

Here are pictures from the incredible moment a murderer is spared the gallows, just seconds before he is due to be hanged after a dramatic reprieve from his victim's mother.

The killer, known as Balal, was sentenced to death for stabbing 18-year-old Abdollah Hosseinzadeh Jnr, during a street fight in the Iranian town of Royan seven years ago. And in a literal application of the sharia law of retribution, known as qisas, the victim's family are allowed to take part in the killer's execution.

Blindfolded and with the noose tight around his neck, Balal was due to have the scaffold chair kicked
away from under him by his dead victim's parents. But as these compelling pictures show, as Balal prepared to take his last breath, Abdollah's mother instead walked up to him, slapped him around the face and chose to forgive him in an extraordinary act of clemency.

Abdollah's parents then removed the noose around Balal's neck to the joy of his own mother who ran over and embraced the grieving woman who let her son walk free.

DailyMail reports that the victim's father, Abdolghani Hosseinzadeh, revealed his wife had a change of heart after her dead son appeared to her in a dream.
He said:
'Three days ago, my wife saw my elder son in a dream telling her that they are in a good place and for her not to retaliate. This calmed my wife and we decided to think more until the day of the execution.'
The father said her actions were even more remarkable because they had already lost a son in a motorbike crash at the age of 11. See more pics below:

7  Forum / The Buzz Central / Alibaba uses Tyrese watch showoff to make case for Nigerian celebs on: 17-04-2014 12:12 PM

US actor/singer Tyrese shared a pic of his wristwatch collection on his instagram page, writing that 'the plane has to match the watch so he can get to his destination on time'. (pic on the left). He got a lot of likes and positive comments from his followers.

Nigerian King of comedy Alibaba reposted the pic on his own page and made a case for Nigerian artists and how fans here react to celebrity show off on social media. He said a lot more. See that after the cut...

In the comment section of the post, Alibaba wrote;
Everyone shows off. You work hard to show off. When you take a graduation picture and post it, there are millions who could not sit Jamb. When you are celebrating your baby dedication there are women praying for fruit of the womb. When you tell everyone how you got a great job, many are dying at stadia across the country. As long as its your hard work that got you those things you show off. Do you know showing off your cleavage could also be in that class of your argument? Because there are people that don't have. Some even have had theirs cut off. For me I see such as inspiration. And not show off. Its like saying HEY I USED TO SLEEP AT THE BAR BEACH. BUT SEE WHERE I AM. Because your neighbors. Don't have light you will not put your generator on? Even the people you call poor... Do you know how much support the person you are calling a show off has contributed to that large number of people in need? And if he were to start mentioning them, that will be another case of show off, abi?
"I agree with people buying things they don't need. And the fact that many don't plan. In my 25 years, I have seen stars rise and fall in show business. We are still going to see that happen in the next 25 years. That said, the yardstick used for measuring succes differ from person to person. Depending on what they have gone through. For instance, if I'm on a long haul flight, I do business class. If client got me business, I upgrade. But for a short 1 hour flight, I can do economy. And only do business if I feel like or when travelling with Madam. Now, some people may think because you are in economy, it means you are broke. Meanwhile, on that row of economy seat, there is a real estate lord, with over 35 properties scattered all over Lagos. But some passenger, 2 seats away from you is thinking see that young artiste in business class, but This Ali Baba is in economy. Unknown to them, someone far richer than Ali Baba is sitting next to him. The flip side of this story is that the young artiste, may nit have kids and responsibilities. So he is allowed to live loud. Then there is the untold dynamics of showbiz. The young artiste may be going to perform with his crew for 5m... I may be going for the same event for, let me be generous and say half the amount the young artiste is paid. At the end of the event, I come home with 90% of my fee, the young artiste will come home with maybe 50%... But to the passenger two seats behind, that don't count. To him, seat in business class. You can go home and drink Garri. Just look good for me. So the artiste is torn between making the fan see him as making it or living his realities. On the others hand, when an artiste doesn't show off, the fans are fed gists of other artistes living the life, then the fan begins to conclude, if the papers say he is not making it, they should know. So the fans begin to believe what they read and see. So the artiste is on a long thing in the end. Finally, much as I agree with many people in need and not rubbing affluence in their face, celebrating success should be an inspiration to those working hard
"I totally totally agree. Most people in Business Class need to go to business class( school) to understand that a business's class ticket is not an investment unless you have crossed certain boxes investment wise. I has invested in other tangible assets before I invested in nice cars. Cars are the bane of many men, women don't make it easy either cos if you no get some type of cars , they don't consider you serious. But what we don't understand is that in America you can rent a Car or lease one in nigeria we pay the full price at once, meanwhile the price of those "cars" can buy a house for the "star" so when the ruff times come( and yes it always comes) you have a fall back. May the God of wisdom enlighten us

11  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Man Goes on Rampage, Beheads Cousins, Injures Two Others in Akwa Ibom State on: 17-04-2014 07:58 AM

A 35-year old man, Mr. Uwem Job, on Wednesday, beheaded two of his cousins, Mr. Akaninyene Job, 45; and Ezekiel Job, 36 in Ikot Nkim, Ibesikpo/Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. While his two other cousins – Itoro Job and Ekemini Job – narrowly escaped death as Uwem’s machete missed their throats, but cut through their hands.

According to Akaninyene’s younger brother, Mr. Ekemini Job, around 8.10am that fateful day, Uwem came to their house and told Akaninyene to come with him, saying that he had something to show him (Akaninyene).

He stated that as Akaninyene opened the curtain to see what Uwem had for him, he (Uwem) hit Akaninyene on the neck with a machete and severed his head from the body.
Ekemini said:
Uwem came to our house around 8am and asked Akaninyene to open the door and collect something he brought for him. Uwem had a 25-litre keg of fuel in his hand and had hid a machete that he brought with him.
People who saw Uwem thought the keg contained palm wine. As my brother opened the curtain to see Uwem, he  quickly brought out his machete and severed Akaninyene’s head from his body.”
An elder sister to Akaninyene, Mrs. Christian Ekong, said they were at the backyard when the shouts from Ekemini caught their attention.

“Ekemini saw Uwem killing Akaninyene and raised the alarm. As we rushed to the scene of the killing, I saw Uwem spilling the fuel on the flour. He then struck a match.
I raised the alarm, alerting everybody in the house to run. If not for the quick intervention of the youth of the area, the entire house would have been burnt down,” Ekong said.

Ezekiel was said to have been killed few minutes after Akaninyene had been beheaded. The distance between where Akaninyene lived and that of Ezekiel was said to be about 20 metres.
An eyewitness, Okon Eyo, told Punch's correspondent that Ezekiel was just waking up when Uwem called at his home and beheaded him.
He said:
“We heard shouts from Akaninyene compound, but we did not know what had happened. The next moment, we saw Uwem go straight into Ezekiel room, which was next to his (Uwem) and severe Ezekiel’s head.
Before we knew what had happened, Uwem had fled. We will apprehend him. We believe he is hiding around this area.”

When Punch's correspondent visited the area, both bodies were laid in front of their houses.
Akaninyene’s younger sister, Mrs. Comfort Okon, told him that the killer of her brother and Ezekiel came back from Lagos about two weeks ago.
“There had never been any quarrel in the family. When my mother was buried on February 22, all the family members, including Uwem, were there. They were the ones who perfected all the burial arrangement, I don’t know why this has happened,” she said.

Bodies of the deceased, Akaninyene and Ezekiel, were later taken to the mortuary in a police van.
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Etim Dickson, to confirm the story failed as he did not answer calls to his telephone or respond to text messages sent to the phone.

12  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Residents allegedly catch mad woman with N100,000, two BlackBerry [See Photo] on: 17-04-2014 06:05 AM

A woman said to be mentally-challenged escaped being lynched by an angry mob on Wednesday after she was allegedly caught with N100,000, two BlackBerry phones and an android phone.
Our correspondent, who visited the scene of the incident around Onabanjo Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos State, learnt that the incident occurred around 10am.

Residents told PUNCH Metro that two ATM cards were also found on the woman.

A resident, James Ogunkoya, told our correspondent that when some youths saw the woman with some money, they trailed her into a compound.

It was learnt that the youths, who suspected her of being a ritual killer,  pounced on her and beat her to a pulp.

Ogunkoya said, “Around 10am, I saw a crowd around an unkempt woman. Some of the youths picked up sticks and were beating the woman. When I asked what was wrong, they said they found three phones and N100,000 with the her.

“They said the woman was not mad, but was only pretending to be mad so that she could easily perpetrate evil acts.”

Another resident said it was N50,000 that was found with the woman.

The resident, who declined to identify himself, said the youths started suspecting her when she was overheard speaking like a normal person with somebody two days ago.

“Some guys were convinced that the woman was only pretending because they overheard her talking with a man on Monday night. They also wondered where a mad woman could have found the phones,” he added.

PUNCH Metro learnt that policemen attached to the Oworonshoki Police Division were alerted by the noise of the crowd gathered at the scene.

A police team was said to have rescued the woman from the mob.

When our correspondent visited the station, the woman was seen lying on a bench near the counter of the station.

Our correspondent noted that she had a burst lip while her arms were bleeding.

A policeman, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said attempts to verify the allegations were fruitless.

He said, “I have been asking the woman questions all day, but she has just been incoherent. She has even refused to tell us her name. At some point, she just started crying, so I let her sleep. I don’t even know if she is a mad woman.

“Also, when she was arrested and we searched her, we did not find any money, phone or ATM cards on her. Nobody has come to write any statement here at the station.”

The General Secretary, Oworonshoki Youth Forum, Babajide Kabiawu, blamed the incident on the fear in the minds of people since the arrest of ritual killers in some South-West states.

He said there was a need for the government to set up a special task force at the community level.

He said, “I do not condone people taking the laws into their hands. However, it is a reflection of the level of insecurity coupled with the discovery of the activities of ritual killers in Oyo and Ogun states.

“The notorious cannibal, Clifford Oji, used to parade himself as a mad man as well. We have also seen cases in our neighbourhood where supposed mad people kidnapped children. We want the government to support the community in setting up a task force that will evacuate mentally-challenged people.”

I told you guys yesterday that Monalisa Chinda & Lanre Nzeribe have not only ended their romantic relationship, they have also ended their business relationship. (Find here). The actress has released an official statement via her publicist confirming the report. Find it below...
We regret to officially announce the resignation of Nollywood actress Monalisa Chinda from Monalisa Magazine, which also marks the end of her partnership with Mr. Lanre Nzeribe, due to irreconcilable professional differences.
Over the past few months, both parties have made concerted efforts to retain their partnership, to no avail, which led to their mutual agreement that a separation would be the best course of action.
Though she has, so far, committed so much time, energy and resources into the project, it is high time she moved on as she pursues renewed ethos to raise her standards of professionalism and focus on projects closer to her heart.

15  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 19-yr-old Pakistani caught with N228m worth of heroin at MMIA on: 16-04-2014 10:58 AM

A 19 year old Pakistani student named Iftikihar Muhammed Arslan, (pictured above) has been arrested by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) for possession and attempted smuggling of 25.400kg of heroin said to be worth N228m into Nigeria, Vanguard reports

Arslan was apprehended at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport during inward screening on passengers on board a Qatar Airways flight. 25 parcels containing the hard drugs were discovered in his luggage.

The suspect believed to be in a drug cartel through his passport showed that he left Lahore, Pakistan with the drugs to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, then Doha, in Qatar, from where he connected to Lagos. Continue...
In his confessional statement, Arslan denied knowledge of the drugs in his bag, saying he was here in Nigeria to experience the beauty of Victoria Island and Ikoyi
"I am a student of Punjab College and I am in Nigeria as a tourist because my friend told me that Victoria Island and Ikoyi are beautiful tourist centres. Unfortunately, when I arrived at the Lagos airport, the heroin was found in my luggage. This is my first time of coming to Nigeria and I had intended to spend a week or two.” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade said that this was the highest drug arrest they have made since this year and it goes to show that NDLEA is winning the fight against drug trafficking
"This arrest and seizure will further send a warning to drug trafficking cartels that Nigeria is winning the fight against narcotics. NDLEA is prepared to halt the criminal activities of drug barons through a coordinated drug detection strategies. We are working very hard to also identify other members of the criminal group" he said

19  Forum / Politics / APC’s body language, utterances promote insurgency, PDP Insists on: 15-04-2014 07:38 PM

Press statement from the PDP, blaming APC for the terror in Nigeria. Find it below...
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated calls on Nigerians to stand up and resist unpatriotic elements whose actions and utterances have continued to fuel insurgency in the country.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement on Tuesday said inflammatory utterances by certain key politicians against the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan, sparked off hatred against the administration by their followers, while attracting impudent insurgents, who  started demanding the ouster of the President with threats to cripple the system through acts of terrorism.
“When the PDP, said that the All Progressive Party, (APC) is responsible for the spate of terror in Nigeria, many had an emotional response, but it is now time to dispassionately focus on the facts in order to stop the carnage on innocent Nigerians.

“Whilst we concede that insurgency existed in the nation before the advent of the current administration, we wish to point out that inflammatory utterances from leaders, many of whom by design or otherwise are now chieftains of the APC have succeeded in emboldening them to launch large scale attacks , maiming and killing our people, believing their actions enjoy the approval of such leaders”, the statement said.

The party observed that such utterances would likely have prompted donations in support of insurgency from followers of such leaders, who thought they were sponsoring a worthy cause.

It noted that these key figures never condemned acts of terrorism and the killings until well-meaning Nigerians started pointing accusing fingers at them. “They rather blamed government for not reaching out to pacify the terrorists instead of helping to  find solutions. They relished in comments which  inspired violence and embolden insurgents against the system” the statement said.

The party insisted that it was not a coincidence that after General Muhammadu Buhari beckoned on his supporters to go on lynching spree should he lose the 2011 presidential election, an unprecedented violence broke out, claiming the lives of  hundreds of innocent Nigeria.

“Not satisfied with the enormity of the mayhem and bloodletting of 2011, Buhari  on the 14th of May 2012 said, "If what happened in 2011 (alleged rigging) should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood.’’

“Nigerians have not forgotten that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, in a spirited bid to stop President Jonathan from contesting the 2011 election declared on the 14th of December 2010 that "those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable"

“Atiku’s statement was collaborated by one his close associates, Alhaji Lawal Kaita, who in October 2010, while rejecting the emergence of a President from the South, also said, ‘the North is determined, if it happens, to make the country ungovernable for President Jonathan or any
other Southerner who finds his way to the seat of power…...Even if he uses incumbency power to get his nomination on the platform of the PDP, he would be frustrated out.’

“On the 23rd of January 2014, APC Deputy National Secretary, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, said  “The next election is likely to be violent and many people are likely going to die. And the only alternative left to get power is to take it by force; this is the reality on ground.

“Are we not now witnessing a foretaste of the bloodbath promised by Buhari and El-Rufai? Is this not the "violent change" promised by Atiku? How many people have to die before Nigerians call a spade a spade and not a farming implement?

“We were not surprised when Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi now a leader in the APC, in inciting his followers recently said, ‘I came to Bori to prove to you that you don’t need to run away from violence. If a man is chasing you with AK-47, you should carry machine gun and the man
will call for peace.’

“We also recall recent statement by the Borno state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima wherein he posited that the insurgents were better armed and better motivated than our security forces. This was deliberately directed at weakening and undermining the security forces while emboldening insurgents. No wonder that after Shettima’s statement, insurgents were encouraged to launch more deadly attacks on our security forces and staged a comeback to the Federal Capital Territory. This is
in addition to statements by Governor Nyako of Adamawa State who continually, ridicules the office and person of the President to portray the administration as weak in fighting terrorism”, the statement said.

The party insisted that the reason the APC leaders were promoting insurgency was not only to distract the President and rubbish his score card but also to unleash unprecedented mayhem, divide the people and forcefully take over power when it loses the 2015 general election.

It said that its statement Monday which again linked the Nyanya bombing to the utterances of the opposition was a clear stand and a warning that the PDP would henceforth  go beyond shedding tears at each carnage, to exposing the enemies of the nation, so as to limit all reckless statements which have been fueling insurgency.

"It is easier to stop at shedding tears after each carnage. This, the PDP has severally done. The difficult part however, lies in attempting to limit reckless statements which fuel violence. We believe this will go a long way to stopping those who instigate violence through utterances and shed crocodile tears thereafter” it said.

The party vowed to continue to protect the welfare and interest of Nigerians adding that the citizens and the Federal Government will not succumb to the designs of unpatriotic elements.

“Indeed, the peace, unity and stability of this country remain non-negotiable. They can bomb and attack, but one thing is sure; they cannot kill the Nigerian spirit in our people and our collective resolve to live together as one nation under God.

“The leadership of the PDP and the government we formed shall not be cowed, intimidated, harassed or tele-guided by acts of terrorism. The PDP is willing, able and ready to sustain the unity and stability of this country. We therefore call on all Nigerians to stand up and collectively defend our common destiny by openly condemning acts of terrorism and exposing those behind them”, the statement said.
