A 65- year-old man (names withheld) in Kalabari Beach in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, weekend, narrowly escaped lynching by angry youths for impregnating his 17-year-old daughter.


According to reports, the alleged randy father hails from Ibiasegbe in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State but resides in Kalabari Beach where he taps rubber.

The randy father, who claims to be an elder in a Pentecostal church, has 11 children from his two late wives and expecting another one from his fourth daughter.

The five-month-old pregnant girl is the man’s first daughter from his second late wife.

Meanwhile, when the youths of the area confirmed that the father is allegedly responsible for the daughter’s pregnancy, they besieged his residence, dragged him out and beat him up.

The youths had already descended on him before a passer-by, who is a lawyer, intervened and told them not to take the laws into their hands.

In an interview, the suspect claimed that the illicit act started five months ago when he forcefully had carnal knowledge of his daughter and in the process defiled her.

The 65-year-old claimed he slept with the daughter six times until his escapade was exposed by the pregnancy.

He, however, said he was ready to appease the land and prayed for forgiveness from all, claiming that it was the handiwork of the devil.

While narrating her ordeal, the pregnant daughter alleged that her father came to her room one night and forced himself on top of her after removing her clothes.

The 17-year-old girl, who is a junior student of St Michael’s Secondary School, Orsu-Obodo, said her father threatened to deal with her if she reported the incident to anybody.

Reports also said the man had already made arrangement to sell the baby immediately her daughter puts to bed, an intention the girl opposed.

The pregnant girl  claimed that she reported to her father immediately she stopped observing her monthly flow, adding that the father didn’t say anything.

A suspected kidnapper was, last weekend, apprehended at Iyana Iba market in Lagos for allegedly kidnapping three children. The suspect allegedly took the children, aged four, six and seven years, on the pretext that he wanted to buy biscuits for them.

Speaking to Vanguard, the mother of the children, Mrs. Iyabo Lawal, said:
“I was in the shop when the man passed the first time, I didn’t know he was monitoring my kids who were playing with my mother in her shop. I was busy attending to customers and didn’t notice when my children followed him. I thought they were still playing in my mother’s shop, not knowing that a stranger had taken them away.

“Some people, who saw my children with the man at the end of Iyana Iba road,
questioned him on what he was doing with the children and he told them he was going to buy something for them. When he could not answer the neighbours satisfactorily, they raised alarm and people gathered and started beating him. At this time I had started looking for my children when someone alerted me that they had seen them with a man at the other side of road.”
Vanguard gathered that but for the intervention of mobile policemen attached to CTU Base 2, Anti Terrorism, Ikeja, the mob would have lynched the man. The suspect, who identified himself as Ihenacho and claimed to be a security man at Alaba International Market, refused to disclose what he was doing with the children. The suspect was later handed over to policemen from Ojo Police Division.

Bongani Nyoni, 42, is a married man and a father, who was jailed after not being faithful to his wife.

Nyoni came to Canada, as a refugee from Zimbabwe, where he claims to have been tortured.

He cheated on his wife with three women, and infected them all with HIV. Now, he was found guilty of aggravated segxwal assault after did not tell the women that he was HIV positive.

He is facing thirteen years in prison and he will be deported back to Zimbabwe, after serving his sentence.

Nyoni owns an office-cleaning company in Edmonton, where he has worked for the past two years and regularly sent money to his siblings in Zimbabwe.

Nyoni testified at the trial that he told the women he was HIV positive before being segxwally active, and always used a condom.

However, the victims testified that they would never have sex with someone who was HIV positive.

Defence attorney Troy Anderson, read letters in court from Nyoni's supporters, including his wife, with whom he has a two-year-old daughter, a pastor and a representative of a company, which helps African and Zimbabwean immigrants, for whom Nyoni had volunteered.

Nyoni also has two teenage daughters from his first marriage.

A brave mother, Mrs Priscilla Ekpenyong, on Friday damned the consequences by clinging to a moving car in order to rescue her nine-month-old child, Emmanuella, from the hands of her fleeing abductors.

The abductors had pushed the 23-year-old woman out of the moving vehicle, but she held on to her baby and was dragged on the tarred road for some distance before the kidnapping was aborted security operatives.
In the words of the brave women: “The luck I had was that I strapped my baby in a tummy-carrier and the man struggled to remove the baby inside the carrier. He succeeded in removing my baby’s hand from the carrier and she started crying. He almost pulled my baby’s hand off, so I shouted for help.
“He then pushed me out of the vehicle, but I held on to my baby. The vehicle dragged me on the road from the Army Barracks junction to Sampet Filling Station, a distance of about 500 metres, before some security agents intervened. They caught the man who was trying to snatch my baby and took him to the Federal Housing Police Station. I don’t know where the others went.”
The incident happened by Eburutu Army Barracks along the busy Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Narrating her ordeal at Police Clinic in Calabar, where she and her daughter received medical attention from bruises sustained during the incident, Priscilla said she boarded the taxi, a Volkswagen Jetta, at the Pyramid Hotel Bus Stop along the highway with another unidentified woman who was carrying a male child.

Shortly afterwards, the taxi stopped to pick two men, who on entering the vehicle demanded for the babies.

Priscilla said, “I was sitting in the front with the driver, while the other woman was sitting at the back with her baby too. The two men sat at the back and while one of them was dragging the other woman’s baby (a boy), the other man was also dragging my daughter."

The state Police PRO, Hogan Bassey, said the taxi driver and other accomplices escaped, while a suspect, Victor Edem-Bassey, was arrested and is being detained at the headquarters of the Cross River State Police Command in Calabar.

In his confession, Edem-Bassey said the harsh economic conditions in Nigeria forced him into stealing kids.
The man, who claimed he had a 13-year-old son, said he was a taxi driver, but lost his job after he fell sick.

He said, “I fell sick and the owner of the car I was driving collected it from me. After he collected it, there was no money to survive. Essien came to me and told me about this business. He said he would take me to his boss who would help me.

“He then introduced me to a man called Albertino, who said he would solve all my problems if I bring babies to him. He did not say he would pay me anything but he promised to solve all my problems. I met him in a joint at Eight Miles, but I don’t know where he lives. He was driving a jeep. I met him at the Old Market Road. A water distributor, Samaila Abubakar, who specialises in rough handling married women has been arrested and handed over to the police. According to residents, the 45-yearold water vendor, Samaila, who is a father of nine children and a husband of four wives normally operates during early morning hour of prayer when the women's husbands are in the mosque praying. Residents of the area said he is ruthless:

“During the day, the suspect goes round the area for his water business but at dawn he sneaks into women apartments which are strictly for them according to our religious practice and this is when men have gone to the mosque for the dawn prayers. He uses knife to threaten women so as have his way”.

On his part, Alhassan Aliyu, a husband to one the victims, said his wife was forced to put to birth following the action of the notorious Samaila.
“The first time he attacked my wife was last year while she was forced to deliver premature baby because of fear. One day, I was about to go to the mosque for dawn prayer and I met the water vendor by the gate and I was scared but I didn’t know who he was but I eventually left to the mosque. Unfortunately, he came back after he realised that I had left; he entered my house. The next voice I heard was my wife who started screaming...
"The suspect always operates with a knife. Thank God she did not sustain any injury.” He said that because of the ‘terrorist water vendor’, he had to abandon his business trips.
Samaila was arrested in the Gabarsawa Quarters area of Kano State. His actions became worrisome to them and this made them dress a boy like a woman who laid down in a room, pretending he was sleeping. As the boy was in the room, the water vendor entered into the room and while trying to carry out his usual operation, he was caught and handed over to Hisbah officials who in turn handed him over to the police.

Another victim, Yusuf Yunus, said that “there was a time when the suspect attempted to enter his house, adding “he was using torchlight to illuminate my gate but the moment he saw me, he ran away. But another day he came and tried to force himself into my house and my wife saw him and she started shouting, “who is there, who is there”, and he ran away”.

A source said: “There was a time the suspect attacked a lady selling akara and akamu, but however the lady said she was not ready to go to court and pursuing the case, but this time around many relatives of those victims are ready to testify against him.”

A staff of Nigerian Breweries Plc, his wife and five of their children have been found dead in their residence by neighbours in Lagos.

The man identified as Etim Edet and members of his family were discovered days after they had died in their sleep on their beds at their home in Badigo area of Ijede in Ikorodu.


It was gathered that neighbours who did not see any member of the family for some days made attempts to find out what was wrong. After knocking for a long time without any response, they left wondering what must have happened to them.

However, as they went close to their apartment, they perceived some fowl smell and decided to inform the police.

It was gathered that police operatives who came to the scene broke the door to the entrance of their home only to discover their decomposing dead bodies on their beds.

Spokesperson to the State Police Command, DSP Ngozi Braide,  confirmed the incident.

She explained that on May 1, being workers day, about 4pm, there was a report at Ijede Police Station that a family of seven are suspected dead in their home in Ikorodu.

“Operatives moved in and Edet was allegedly found dead with his wife and five children on their beds at his residence at Bagido area of Ijede.

“No sign of violence was seen on their bodies. The deceased were suspected to have died from generator fumes. The decomposed corpses have been removed to Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.  The incident is under investigation at Ijede Division,” she said.
