15322  Forum / Politics / Falana Declares Alleged Panel Of First Lady Illegal As Women Group on: 9-05-2014 10:23 AM
Lagos Lawyer and human rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) yesterday said, the alleged panel of inquiry set up by the first lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan over the missing school girls is illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.

Falana wants the panel immediately disbanded as the first lady as no right whatsoever to set up a panel over this. Falana also says her alleged statement saying no girls were missing is also wrong, after CAN tried its possible best to release over 180 names out of the missing girls. He also said the presidency shouldn't have accepted the offer of other countries since the first lady believes no girls were missing.

Meanwhile, a group, BAOBAB for Women’s Right, yesterday, also called on the first lady to apologise to the parents of the abducted school girls for doubting that the abduction took place.  Here is a statement from them.

“BAOBAB for Women’s Human Rights, Borno State outreach condemns in its totality the actions of the wife of Nigerian president, Mrs. Patience Jonathan on concerns shown by people within and outside Nigeria on the abduction of innocent girls. This act of criminality, as we are aware violates their fundamental human right to education.

A situation when the wife of the president who does not have a role under the Nigerian constitution begins to summon and interrogate duly appointed government officials as well as giving them directives and detaining some of them, is worrisome as this could interfere with the various actions put in place towards addressing insurgency rocking the country.

We want them back, safe in their homes wherever they are. The poor handling of information about the exact number of girls who are still missing and the fact that members of the Boko Haram have claimed responsibility for the abduction of these girls must not deter those with the responsibility for the safety of all Nigerians from working to find these girls where they are being held and return them to their parents,” the group said.

The group also commended the efforts of various women organisations within and outside the country and both local and foreign media towards rescuing the abducted girls.

The Mujahedeen,” wrote one dubious poster on a web forum used by Islamic militants whose administrator uses a picture of Osama bin Laden. “I have brothers from Africa who are in this group,” attested another, insisting that they were like “the Quran walking the earth.” Boko Haram was rejected long ago by mainstream Muslim scholars and Islamist parties around the world for its seemingly senseless cruelty and capricious violence against civilians. But this week its stunning abduction appeared too much even for fellow militants normally eager to condone terrorist acts against the West and its allies. “There is news that they attacked a girls’ school!” another astonished poster wrote on the same jihadi forum, suggesting delicately that Boko Haram may perhaps be killing too many noncombatants instead of armed enemies. He prayed that God would “hold them steady to the path” of Islam.
15324  Forum / The Buzz Central / Clarion Chukwura throws another punch at Ibinabo Fiberesima on: 8-05-2014 04:56 PM

Veteran actress Clarion Chukwura has announced her intent of contesting for the Actor’s Guild presidency position currently held by Ibinabo Fiberesima and laying the path to achieving her aim with subtle punches aimed at Ibinabo’s lack of leadership including her recent interview with Ecomium Magazine:

“Thank you very much. It gives me a great concern that we continue to face this kind of issue in this country. Rather than determine the merit of the issues that are being raised, people will misdirect the whole point to be a personality attack. I do not have anything whatsoever against Ibinabo Fiberesima. Ibinabo as a person is a friend of mine. I have known her since the 80s when she was running a night club. So, Ibinabo Fiberesima, as a person, is not the issue. The issue is that she succeeded in a very commendable field which is accessing an appointment to see the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at a time like this when the President is engaged in all fronts. It was a mighty opportunity that was given to her on a platter of gold.

My grouse is what did she do with it? It’s about the Actors Guild of Nigeria. Ibinabo Fiberesima led a delegation to see the President as AGN president. This is the constitution as amended for her (shows reporter a copy), which part of this constitution did she use that visit to actualize? She asked for political appointment which is an attempt to destroy the guild. AGN is not a group established for lobbying for political offices. This is an association of creative people not politicians.”

I wish to live a quiet life because I want people to be able to approach me and congratulate my effort and also criticize me so that I could do better,” the artiste said.
15327  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Chocolate City vs Brymo: Judge drops case due to accusation of bias. on: 8-05-2014 01:11 PM

The judge in charge of the ongoing court case between Brymo and Chocolate City, Justice Buba I.N, has pulled out of the case after he was accused of being biased. During cross examination of singer Brymo, yesterday, Chocolate City Counsel T.O Lawal claimed that the Chocolate City vs. Brymo dispute was as a result of the singer’s misconducts and his promotion of hard drugs on his social network accounts. ‘I want to put it to you that one of the reasons you had problems with the plaintiff (Chocolate City) was because you were promoting hard drugs on your social network accounts. I was made to understand by the record label that your conducts and promotion of hard drugs like Indian hemp made the record label to lose a potential N20M endorsement deal for you with a major telecommunication company. Negotiations were ongoing about the deal, but it was called off,’ Lawal said to Brymo. However, the statement was playfully countered by the judge, Justice Buba I.N, who said: ‘The plaintiff cannot have a problem with a singer promoting hard drugs because that is what they all do. We are all fans of Fela and Bob Marley, and they promoted these things.’ Unhappy with the judge’s comment, T.O Lawal expressed his sadness and insinuated that the judge was being biased. To ensure fair hearing to the satisfaction of both parties, Justice Buba made it clear that he will be handing the case over to another judge. During the court session that lasted from 1:14PM to about 1:47PM, Brymo was called to the witness box for cross examination, and he revealed his numerous dealings with Chocolate City. Answering questions on why he dumped the record label, Brymo revealed that he and the C.E.O of the label Audu Maikori had a verbal agreement to part ways. ‘We had a discussion at Chocolate City’s office in Lekki in December 2012, when he told me I can leave the label. I was not happy with the way I was being treated by the label and we agreed to stop working together. He was to give me a document to that effect but he later changed his mind,’ Brymo told the court. During cross examination, it was also revealed that Brymo signed a three album and a five-year-deal with the record label which was to expire in 2016. Reacting to Justice Buba’s decision to pull out of the case, Brymo’s counsel Nike Olagbende told NET that the judge had no choice than to do so. ‘The judge did the right thing. Once a party feels the judge is being biased, the judge has the option of pulling out. What he did was fair,‘ Olagbende revealed after the court proceedings. Chocolate City Counsel T.O Lawal and Brymo’s Counsel Nike Olagbende after court hearing. Chocolate City counsel T.O Lawal still maintains that he doesn’t want to talk to the press. ‘I have been a lawyer for more than a decade and I have never spoken to the press. You have been disturbing me for a while and I promise I will speak to you soon but not today,’ he told NET Correspondent. Brymo, as usual, was in court with his girlfriend. His father, who has always joined him in court, was absent today. The court will soon announce the new judge for the case and a resumption date for the hearing....
15328  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / I Don’t Think It Is Good For The Government To Remain In Office - Borno Senator on: 8-05-2014 12:20 PM
SaharaTV’s Rudolf Okonkwo spoke with Senator Khalifa Zanna, of Borno State, last weekend about the recent kidnapping of nearly 300 schoolgirls from the Government Girls’ Secondary School, in Chibok, Nigeria on April 14th.

The abduction has sparked a mass movement around the world, and on various social media platforms, with people using the term #BringBackOurGirls to express their frustrations with the incident.

“The social media campaign has been very helpful because now, the government feels a sense or urgency,” said Zanna.

Asked whether he feels that the government and military are in control, after listening to President Goodluck Jonathan, the senator responded, “I don’t think they [Nigerian Military] are in control of the situation, because if they were in control of the situation, at least some girls might have been discovered by the security agencies.”

Zanna also elaborated further on the security issue in his state.

“Even when the military are there, the killings haven’t stopped, even for a day,” he said.

He also expressed his concerns about allowing the military into other settings.

“I am advising other States not to allow the military to get into their territories because, past experience has been very nasty,” he said. “I can't advise any society to use the Nigerian police; sometimes they behave like ‘mad men.’”

Concerning the delay of the search for the girls, Zanna said his feelings about the matter are mixed, and that there are obstacles in the way.

“They say they are still planning. And also, certain (types of) equipment are expected so that when they receive (that) equipment, it is there they will start a full scale operation,” he said. “They promised that maybe within [the] next two, three weeks, they would discover the girls.”

Following the abduction, 22 senators from different Nigerian States met with president Goodluck Jonathan, it was there where they briefed him on what was discussed in the Senate.

“For me and my colleague from Borno, we only dwelled on the missing girls,” said Zanna. “So we didn’t talk much on what (else) is happening in the State.”

According to Zanna, most of the areas or the villages around major cities are infested with the Boko Haram, and their sympathizers, and he feels a different approach should be taken in order for the girls to be returned safely to their families.

“They need to change their strategy, particularly the way the military are operating only on the highways, rather than going into the bush in pursuit of the insurgents,” he added.

Asked whether someone should be held accountable for what is going on in Nigeria, he said:

“Yes of course, because the security situation in the country has gotten to a level that it bothers every person in Nigeria,” said Zanna. Therefore, if there is nothing tangible coming in the near future, I don’t think it is good for them to remain in office.”

Finally, Zanna expressed his overall dissatisfaction with Nigeria and the path in which it is heading.

"If care is not taken, we will not have a generation to produce anything," the Borno State Senator said glumly.

Some Nigerian Musicians Do Not Have Any Feelings For The Abducted Children…..African China
African China has tongue lashed some Nigerian artistes for being hypocrites about the ongoing crises of the abducted girls by the dreaded insurgents in the country.

According to him, the song ‘Boko Haram,’ would have not just been African China alone, but a collaboration of various Nigerian artistes.
The artiste stated that he approached some of his fellow artistes for collaboration about the song which they accepted, but later turned him down during production.

“I was happy when I approached some of the artistes, but along the line, they turned it down saying that they couldn’t do the song and as such, he was the best person to do the song.”

The artiste accused his colleagues of being copycats as they are now trying to do what the foreign celebrities are now doing by writing ‘#Bring back our Girls,’ and then display it on social media.

“I will never forgive the Nigerian artistes doing that because it is too late to give a voice now. When we would have sang to beg these people even before this bombing went rampant, they turned it down. Now, they are copying others, nonsense. Our celebrities only do things that trend.”

A mother who killed her two children while suffering from postnatal depression has been seen out walking near her £1.5m London home with her husband who stayed with her throughout the tragedy.

Jewellery designer Felicia Boots suffocated the couple's ten-week-old son Mason and 14-month-old daughter Lily days after the family had moved into their new home in south west London, in May 2012.

Boots, who was suffering postnatal depression at the time, was under the delusion that her children were about to be taken away from her by social services.

She was spared jail and was instead detained in a psychiatric hospital until doctors deemed her fit for release. At the time, a judge said a prison sentence would be 'wholly inappropriate'.

Now, nearly two years after the tragedy, the 36-year-old has been seen in the neighbourhood where the incident occurred with her banker husband Jeff, 36 .
