8  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 17-year-old S3x Worker Demands Child Support From Alleged Father Of Her Baby on: 21-09-2021 02:23 PM

A 17-year-old sex worker from Chikwawa, Malawi, who was impregnated is seeking child support from the alleged father of her three-month-old baby. According to Malawi media, Chikwawa is one of the districts where cases of commercial child sex workers are on the rise due to among other factors poverty.

The teenager who dropped out of school when she was in standard 3 has since requested the district social Welfare Office and other stakeholders in the district to assist in compelling the alleged father of her child to take up his responsibility.

Speaking during an interview at her home village which is under Traditional Authority Kasisi in the district, the girl disclosed that in the course of her practice, she traveled to Mzuzu last year where she co-habited with a man who impregnated and later dumped her.

She said she also eloped with another man until she gave birth. She added that upon giving birth, the man started ill-treating her leading the police to intervene. The police in collaboration with the social welfare office in Mzuzu facilitated her journey back to her home village last month.

"While I was in Mzuzu a certain man approached me and told me he wanted me to be his wife. We started living together as a family until I became pregnant when he dumped me. Later on, I also found another man who said he loved me. He took care of me during the entire period I was pregnant until I delivered when he started maltreating me. He used to beat me up and sometimes I could sleep without food," said the girl.

"I resolved to report the matter to the police who referred me to the social welfare office and they facilitated for me to come back home. I am happy am now here at home but all I want is for my child to be assisted by her father since I cannot do it alone."

Her parents also shared their daughter’s concern saying they are struggling to take care of both their child and grandchild being ordinary farmers themselves with other five children to look after.

Chikwawa District Social Welfare Office, Aron Macheka says his office is assessing on how best to assist the girl but he emphasised that through the Child Care, protection and Justice Act, the alleged father of the child can be compelled to assume his responsibilities even through the courts.

Meanwhile, authorities in Chikwawa district have been intensifying awareness among parents for them to be responsible enough in preventing their children from venturing into the sex trade.

14  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Terrorism: Nigeria Is Not Interested In Naming, Shaming Anybody – Adesina on: 21-09-2021 11:49 AM

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, says the Nigeria Government is not interested in naming and shaming sponsors of terrorism. Adesina, who made the remark on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, stated that the government would rather prosecute financiers of insurgency in court.

“Naming and shaming will not be the motive, bringing malefactors to justice will be it,” he said. “Nigeria is not interested in naming and shaming anybody. Rather, it wants to bring them to justice.

“You will see that the United Arab Emirates has given some names and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has reacted to that matter, saying that in due course, all these people will have their dates in court. Rest assured that these people will be dragged before justice and justice will have its way.”

Asked if the government investigates suspects before they are made to face trial, the President’s spokesman replied in the affirmative. He explained that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and other security agencies were working to get verifiable evidence against the suspects before their arraignment in court.

“Investigations are going on at different levels; it will be at the level of the EFCC, it will be at the level of the NIA. All the security agencies will be working on it so that when those people eventually appear in court, there will be a prima facie case against them.

“You don’t first call people before the court and start looking for evidence against them later. No! The cases will be tied up before they appear in court,”
Adesina stated.

19  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Nigerian Air Force Admits They Are Still Looking For Fighter Jet That Went Missing 6 Months Ago on: 21-09-2021 09:32 AM

The Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet marked NAF 475 that went missing six months ago has yet to be found. We had reported how the fighter jet went missing on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, in the insurgency-ravaged Borno State. The spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force, Edward Gabkwet had said the fighter jet lost contact with the radar in Borno State earlier that day.

Gabkwet said the plane disappeared while on an interdiction mission in support of ground troops. He said the mission was part of the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North East.

“The loss of radar contact occurred at about 5:08 pm on 31 March 2021,” he had said. “Details of the whereabouts of the aircraft or likely cause of contact loss are still sketchy but will be relayed to the general public as soon as they become clear. Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts are ongoing.”

A few days later, Boko Haram terror group released a video showing its fighters shooting down an aircraft thought to be the NAF 475 alpha jet declared missing. In the video that is about seven minutes long, the jet was seen flying low to the ground while the insurgents shot at it. However, Gabkwet dismissed the video, adding that there was an ongoing search for the missing fighter jet.

“The attention of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been drawn to some videos being circulated on Social Media, as well as media reports drawn from there, alleging that the NAF Alpha Jet aircraft, which was reported missing in Borno State on 31 March 2021 after losing radar contact, was shot down by terrorists. One of such videos, in particular, began with sporadic shooting by several terrorists, including underage children on motorcycles and vehicles. It later skipped abruptly to a scene depicting an aircraft exploding mid-air, supposedly as a result of enemy action. Another part of the video showed a terrorist, who, while standing by the wreckage, claimed that they had shot down the NAF aircraft.

“Although the video is still being thoroughly analysed, it is evident that most parts of the video were deliberately doctored to give a false impression that the aircraft was shot down. For instance, the video clip failed to show the correlation between the sporadic shooting, which even from casual observation was obviously aimed at ground targets, and the sudden mid-air aircraft explosion. In addition, it is almost impossible for an aircraft to have exploded mid-air, in the manner depicted in the video, and still have a good part of its fuselage, including its tail, intact. Indeed, an explosive impact of that nature would have scattered the debris of the aircraft across several miles,”
he had said.

On Monday, the Air Force spokesperson said different rescue operations are ongoing in order to ascertain the whereabouts of the fighter plane. “If there is anything new, actually I will tell you. We are still searching for the jet, if there is any new information, you will be the first person to know. No information on its whereabouts now, the search is still ongoing. It’s a continuous process,” Gabkwet said.

Asked about the fate of the pilots and their families, he said, “There is a difference between absence without leave and missing in action, they are protecting our nation and got missing. Ours is a process that takes up to seven years in this kind of situation. The pilots are still part of Nigerian Air Force till date.”
20  Forum / Politics / Buhari Will Teach World Leaders How To Manage The Economy During Pandemic - Femi Adeshina on: 21-09-2021 09:23 AM

The Presidency has said President Muhammadu Buhari would teach world leaders how to manage their economy during pandemic. Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, said world leaders would learn how to overcome economic recession during pandemic from Buhari.

Adesina, while speaking with Channels Television on Monday night, said his principal would address the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, meeting. Adesina said some of the countries attending the meeting were yet to recover from the recession caused by the pandemic, unlike Nigeria.

The presidential spokesman pointed out that not only did Nigeria recover from the pandemic-induced recession but the economy “recorded a GDP growth of 5.01. Buhari is going to teach the rest of the world how it was done.”

Adesina said the president “would talk about security. He would talk about the girl child, SDGs, and so many things.” Buhari had on Sunday departed Nigeria for New York to participate in the 76th Session of the UNGA billed to open on September 14.

The theme for this year’s UNGA is “Building Resilience Through Hope – To Recover from COVID-19, Rebuild Sustainably, Respond to Needs of the Planet, Respect the Rights of People and Revitalise the United Nations.”
