A military formation has been set on fire by terrorists in Kwamdi village, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State. It was gathered that the terrorists are members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP). According to reports, the terrorists overran the formation on Tuesday evening and carted away weapons belonging to the military during a gun duel. The fighters were said to have stormed the area on 10 utility vehicles, burnt down one Ammour Personal Carrier(APC) and a gun truck.
According to a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), Hamidu Abu, the deadly group targeted soldiers camp but not residents. He further disclosed to Daily Trust that the base was razed down as several valuables were stolen by the assailants.
“They came at about 4pm and due to the sand storms, it was difficult for soldiers to repel them. They burnt down the base including APC and four other vehicles.
“I can’t ascertain if there was any causality figure,” Abu said.
Nigerian singer, Davido has begun his daddy duties again by taking his first daughter Imade to school himself. In a short video clip he shared on Insta-story, the father of three could be seen hugging and cuddling her all over while they ride to school. Earlier today, reports went viral that popular Yoruba actor, Baba Ijesha was expected to appear before the court today, Wednesday, June 16th. The reports revealed that the embattled actor would be arraigned at the Magistrate Court 1, Yaba, today. Recall that Baba Ijesha has been in police custody since April for allegedly defiling the foster daughter of popular comedienne, Princess Damilola.
The Yoruba was granted bail on May 17, at the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID Panti on health grounds by a magistrate. He has however not been released as bail condition includes that he must have two sureties. Also, the bail is placed at N500, 000 in bond.
The police in Delta state have arrested an armed robbery suspect who specializes in using a dummy gun to rob his victims of their personal items. A statement released by the acting spokesperson of the command, Edafe Bright, states that on June 13, the Divisional Police Officer in the Okpanam Division received a distress call from a resident who claimed that an armed robber entered into the house with a gun and was forcing victims that do not have cash on them to transfer money to his account.
Edafe said the DPO swiftly deployed patrol teams to the area. '' The patrol teams on getting to the scene cordoned the area, and arrested the suspect one Emmanuel Peace ‘m’ about 18yrs old with a DUMMY WOODEN GUN.
The suspect had already successfully forced an aged couple to transfer the sum of six hundred thousand Naira (N600, 000) to an account number owned by one Anwanga Abasi Nathaniel Udo. Other exhibit recovered from the suspect includes two (2) knives and one (1) torchlight.''the statement read. He said an investigation into the matter continues.
Sani Abacha's ex-chief security officer, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha has opened up on his death. Al-Mustapha said Abacha did not die after eating an apple from his concubines, as widely speculated. Speaking on how his late boss died, the former CSO said Abacha died after a brief illness.
According to Al-Mustapha he said the late military ruler’s health suddenly collapsed on June 7, 1998, from the Abuja International Airport, after one of the security personnel, who accompanied President Yasser Arafat of Palestine shook hands with him. Al-Mustapha said: “Shortly after the handshake, I noticed the change in the countenance of the late Commander-in-Chief, and I immediately informed the Aide-de-Camp, Lt. Col. Abdallah, who advised that we keep a close watch on him.
“Later in the evening of June 8, 1998, around 6 p.m., his doctor came around and administered an injection to stabilise him. He was advised to have a short rest. “At about 5 a.m., the security guards ran to my quarters to inform me that Abacha was very unstable.”
Al-Mustapha disclosed that he thought the officers who came to his house was an attempted coup plot, so he had to divert their attention on his movement to Abacha’s residence. He added: “When I got to the bedside of the Head of State, he was already gasping. Ordinarily, I could not just touch him. It was not allowed in our job. But under the situation, I knelt close to him and shouted: ‘General Sani Abacha, Sir, please grant me permission to touch and carry you.
“I again knocked at the stool beside the bed and shouted in the same manner, yet he did not respond. I then realised that there was a danger. I immediately called the Head of State’s personal physician, Dr. Wali, who arrived in the place in eight minutes from his house. He immediately gave Abacha two doses of injection, one at the heart and another close to his neck. This did not work apparently, as the Head of State had turned very cold. “He then told me that the Head of State was dead and that nothing could be done after all.”

According to reports, some gunmen have shot dead a middle-aged man alleged to be one of the informants used by the Nigerian Army to give away the late commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra’s Eastern Security Network (ESN), Ikonso Don. It was learned that the victim, whose name had yet to be ascertained, was gunned down in a village between Imo and Anambra states, where he was believed to be hiding.
We obtained the graphic images of the corpse of the victim, who was shot dead along a footpath in the village while the gunmen escaped from the scene.
“The victim is alleged to be the informant the military and the police used in getting Ikonso’s location and in killing him. Some said the informant was also a member of the ESN but others said he was a former IPOB member, renounced them, and came to the village to hide. But he has now been killed,” a source stated.
We had on April 26 reported that the Nigerian Army ‘s operation against the ESN and IPOB in Awomama Village in the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State led to Ikonso Don’s death, who was an ESN top commander. The army and the police intelligence team had killed Ikonso, known as Vice President, and six other IPOB commanders during the raid.
The army had confirmed that an officer and three policemen were also shot dead by the ESN during the gun battle on Saturday. The then Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Mohammed Yerima, had released a photograph of Ikonso with IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as well as of the shrine where the ESN and IPOB fighters reportedly gathered in Oru East.
The army spokesman had revealed that they had been on the trail of Ikonso and other ESN commanders for weeks before he was finally captured. “The IRT and DSS teams along with troops of 82 Division of the Nigerian Army have been on the trail of the terror group since the unfortunate attacks on the Imo State Police Command and the Owerri Correctional Center on April 5.“The said Ikonson Commander, who was the mastermind of those attacks in addition to multiple attacks in the South-East and South-South regions, was neutralised along with six of his top Commanders,” the military had said.
Sources had also told ua that Ikonso was also given away by some of his photographs shared on social media as well as by some of his friends, who had been in touch with security agencies for weeks, if not months.
“Ikonso Don was a well-known hardcore IPOB member. When the ESN was launched, he joined and participated in several operations, rising to later become a commander. He was going to his village in Umuoma alongside other ESN members when they were ambushed. “He was targeted and killed after some of the Igbo he was fighting for gave out his details to the security forces,” a source had explained.
“His photographs were also shared on social media by a friend and he was given away as the ESN commander. That was the same place his photograph with Nnamdi Kanu was obtained,” another source revealed.
Musician, Davido has been accused of lying to his fans that he bought an expensive Rolls Royce car. The Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, commenced the evacuation of beggars from the shanties on Jemibewon Road, Sabo area of Ibadan, to the newly built Akinyele Resettlement Centre.
The evacuation process formally commenced following a tour of the new site by Arewa community leaders and representatives of the beggars on Saturday. The State’s Commissioner for Environment, Barrister Idowu Oyeleke, who led the first set of evacuees to Akinyele, said that the new site is fitted with social amenities including schools, hospitals, and recreation centers.
Other Ministries involved in the exercise include Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Information, Culture and Tourism, Local and Chieftaincy Matters as well as the Office of the Executive Secretary, Oyo State Security Trust Fund.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has disclosed that feelings of marginalization in the Southeast will be largely reduced if the region produces Nigeria’s next president. Ngige made this statement via a current affairs programme Newsnight on Channels TV on Sunday, June 14.
According to him, it is sad there is no provision in the 1999 constitution; stating that the next election is to be zoned to the south. Speaking further, Ngige said this is why he believes that the 1995 constitution produced by the late General Sani Abacha’s administration would have been better suited for Nigeria’s current situation.
“The people in the area have perceived that they are marginalized, that they are unappreciated; whether it was done by propaganda and brainwashing or not, that is now immaterial. “So I agree with that proposal, unfortunately, the Nigerian constitution does not have that. This is where I quarrel with those who authored the 1999 Constitution. “Now, that constitution would have been the best constitution for Nigerians to use; for the next 30 years by which the six zones would have tested the presidency,” the minister stated.
Some fans of veteran Nigerian actress, Patience Ozokwor, have disclosed how most of her major movie roles scarred them as kids. Fondly referred to as Mama G, during the early days of her career, the legendary actress was known to act the roles of a wicked mother-in-law, stepmother or witch; and she always portrayed the role impeccably.
In an Instagram post, the question, “The movie that traumatized me as a child was…?” was asked; and a user of the platform simply stated that every movie the ace actress feature in traumatized her.

A married woman has gotten stuck to her lover during a romp. The incident was said to have happened in Gulu city, in the Northern Region of Uganda on Wednesday morning, June 16. According to an eyewitness, Pai Robins OgwengAkiiki, after engaging in segxwal intercourse, their organs could not separate. The Nigerian army has released a civilian, Emmanuel Odaudu detained for 8 months over a post he made on Facebook. Odaudu regained his freedom after languishing in the Nigerian Army Special Investigation Bureau underground cell in Abuja for over eight months because of an old Facebook video.
Emmanuel was released on Friday, June 11, 2021, following a series of reports by this medium drawing attention to his plight and the involvement of human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN. Falana had described Emmanuel’s continued detention by the military as illegal and unconstitutional, adding “Our law firm is taking up this matter and we are going to demonstrate through this case that the Nigerian Army has no power under the law to arrest a civilian without transferring him/her to the police in line with the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.”
Emmanuel’s mother, Helen, had lamented that her son’s ordeal started when he was in the Army, explaining that he was detained over an old video posted on Facebook, where he was seen rapping while in uniform.
She also said that efforts to secure his release after he was arrested in their hometown of Otukpo, Benue State, proved abortive. Helen, who spoke to us on Tuesday, said though the case against her son was still ongoing, he had been released from detention. The joyous mother stated, “My son has been released, but when I went to see the lawyer representing us from Falana and Falana Chambers, he said the case is still on and that the Army is not withdrawing it.
“He was released on Friday, June 11, 2021. I was very happy when I saw him; it was like a dream come true. I appreciate God, my special thanks goes to PUNCH Newspapers, the Falana and Falana Chambers and every other person, who stood by me during my trying period.”
A man has left his wife seriously injured for cheating on him. It was gathered that the 'possessive' husband beat his wife with a crowbar at a bus stop in New York as witnesses watched in horror before calling the police. Julio Aponte, 63, used the crowbar to repeatedly bash his 49-year-old wife in the head at about 7 a.m. Monday, June 14 at the corner of W. 163rd St. and Fort Washington Ave., screaming accusations likeHow dare you cheat on me! “” Police said.
He then ran away from the crime scene on a motorcycle, leaving his bloodied wife behind while shocked witnesses called the police. Shortly afterward the violent husband ditched the motorcycle on the road and called 911 himself to turn himself in, cops said. Police found the crowbar, wrapped in plastic, as well as Aponte’s backpack at the scene of the attack, police say.
The woman was then rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia in cardiac arrest after she suffered severe head trauma, police said. She remains in critical condition as at Tuesday, June 15. Police have charged Aponte with attempted murder and assault. He awaits arraignment in Manhattan criminal court.
Instagram has deleted the page of former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, from its platform. This comes barely two days after Google deleted his Crowwe app from the Play Store. A recent check showed that Instagram had taken down the APC Chieftain’s IG account from the popular image and video sharing app, with his page displaying ‘the user not found.’ When contacted on Tuesday for comments on the development, Garba told The Gazette that Instagram took down his account because some users reported him.
“It was reported by some users and was disabled by Instagram,” he said. The reason for reporting Garba’s account was unclear as of the time of filing this report. But lately, he has received a public backlash regarding his Crowwe app accused of disingenuity. Instagram is known for banning accounts that violate its policy or reported for spam, fraud, or a fake account.
His deleted Crowwe app had suffered a similar fate when Twitter users criticised the application on various grounds, including its privacy policy.
A woman in the Indian town of Kerala who went missing 11 years ago was recently found living just 500 meters from her parent’s home, in the house of a man she had fallen in love with. Sajitha left her family home in 2010 and hadn’t been seen since then, but unknown to her family she was not far from home. Her family had given up hope of ever finding her, after she simply walked out of the house one day, and never came back. Thinking that she had died or was living thousands of miles away somewhere, they never even entertained the idea that she could be in the same village, let alone in walking distance from them.
As it turns out, the woman, who was 18 at the time of her disappearance, simply walked out of the family home and into that of her secret lover, a local man who she was convinced her parents wouldn’t approve of. The young woman didn’t leave any clues when she left her family home, didn’t carry a phone and police couldn’t really provide any real assistance. Her parents didn’t suspect a romantic affair with someone so close to them, as it takes two to elope and there was no one else missing from Ayalur village, in Kerala.
Sajitha was only discovered earlier this month after her 34-year-old lover, Alinchuvattil Rahman suddenly disappeared from his family home three months ago, and his family notified the police. His brother Basheer happened to notice him on the side of the road one day, and managed to follow him to a house in a neighboring village, which he had rented with Sajitha.
Police took the couple before a local court, which allowed them to legally live together after hearing their story. Apparently, the two come from two different religions and were sure that their families wouldn’t approve of their love, so they decide to be together in secret.
“Their story sounds unusual, but we took the couple to Rahman’s house and they told us how Sajitha had lived secretly in a single room for all these years,” Nenmara Police Station House Officer Deepa Kumar A told the Indian Express.
Rahman’s family reportedly also didn’t know about her presence in their home either. The young man, who works as a house painter, allegedly had a separate room that he kept under lock and key, so no one else could get in. Since he got angry if anyone even asked about his room, his parents never really bothered him about it.
“Sometimes he behaved like a mentally deranged person, would turn violent if someone tried to get into his room. “He would even take his food in to eat… During the day, as everyone was at work, Rahman and Sajitha would have the house to themselves,” the man’s bother, Basheer said. Rahman’s room didn’t have its own bathroom, so he had the metal bars on its window sawed off when she moved in, so she could sneak out to use the toilet at night or when his parents, who work as daily wagers, were away. She even washed and dried her clothes in the same tiny room. Sajitha apparently kept herself entertained by watching a small TV with earphones on.
According to Rahman’s neighbors, he always kept to himself, was very secretive, so some of them thought he had mental issues. He apparently eloped with his beloved three months ago, after his family started pressuring him about an arranged marriage. He never objected, to avoid suspicion, but always avoided the subject. When Sajitha was discovered, most of the locals in the village were shocked as they had almost forgotten all about her.

Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed has said that Twitter and its founder, Jack Dorsey, are liable for the losses the country suffered during the EndSARS protests. He stated this when he featured on Radio Nigeria on Tuesday.
Mohammed stated that Dorsey raised funds through Bitcoins to sponsor the EndSARS protests while his platform, Twitter, was used to fuel the crisis. The Minister stated that Nigerians did not take him seriously when he made the allegations earlier, until investigations were carried out by an online media outfit. The minister said the online publication confirmed that Dorsey retweeted some posts by coalitions supporting the EndSARS protests and further launched an emoji to make the protest visible on the microblogging site.
“If you ask people to donate money via bitcoins for EndSARS protesters then you are vicariously liable for whatever is the outcome of the protest,” he said. “We have forgotten that EndSARS led to loss of lives, including 37 policemen, six soldiers, 57 civilians while property worth billions of naira were destroyed.
“164 police vehicles and 134 police stations were razed to the ground, 265 private corporate organisation were looted while 243 public property were looted. “81 warehouses were looted while over 200 brand new buses bought by Lagos state government were burnt to ashes.”
