A total of 122 stranded Nigerians have been evacuated from Libya, including 52 males, 39 females (seven of whom were rescued from human trafficking), 21 children, and 10 infants. This brings the total number of stranded Nigerians in Libya who have been assisted to return home in 2024 alone to 1,350. In 2023, the International Organization for Migration, IOM, assisted no fewer than 2,041 stranded Nigerian migrants to return home.

The evacuees would depart around 1.30pm, Libyan local time from Mitiga International Airport aboard a chartered flight and are expected at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos by 5 pm. According to official sources, Tuesday’s evacuation, conducted in collaboration with the IOM in Libya as part of its Voluntary Humanitarian Repatriation, VHR, programme, was the ninth carried out by the Nigerian Mission in the country this year.

Speaking in Tripoli, Libya, during the evacuation, Nigeria’s newly-posted Charge’ d’Affaires en-titre to Libya, Mohammed Mohammed advised Nigerians to shun irregular migrations to foreign lands. Mohammed warned that most of such irregular migrations usually end up in slavery and segxwal exploitations in Europe. The envoy said that migrations that follow due process are allowed but advised Nigerians to always ponder well before embarking on the risk of the ill-advised journey across the desert.

"Inflation has gone to almost a percentage it has never been before, unemployment has become a major problem and insecurity has got worse in the last one year," he said.

In another post, he said, "Today is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime's first anniversary of 'Shegecracy'" Sowore in April mocked the people of the southwest region of Nigeria who thought President Tinubu wanted to become the country’s president to safeguard their interests. Sowore made this known in his speech at an event organised by his supporters in New York, United States of America.

He lamented that Nigerians had yet to rescue the country from the political class that contributed immensely to the socio-economic challenges facing the country. “Now the Yorubas are facing what is called ‘enikanloba’ (Only those who are affected will suffer) not ‘emilokan’ anymore and the rest of Nigeria are facing what we call ‘renowned shege’ which is the opposite of renowned hope,” he added.

Four former employees of Grace Mugabe, the widow of ex-Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe, have been arraigned before a Harare court for allegedly stealing household items worth US$500,000 from the Blue Roof mansion in Borrowdale. The suspects have been identified as; Allen Chinamonya (42), Danmore Chinamonya (35), Samson Karonga, and Brighton Bunganirwa.

Appearing before the court on Tuesday, May 28, State prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti revealed that Allen Chinamonya, initially a groundsman, later became a driver from 2004 to 2022. Similarly, Danmore Chinamonya transitioned from groundsman to driver over the same period. At the time of the alleged theft, Karonga worked as an electrician at the Blue Roof, while Bunganirwa served as a gardener.

The alleged theft occurred over several years, beginning in 2018 when Grace Mugabe brought 11 containers filled with household items from the State House following the 2017 ousting of her husband. Despite securing these containers with locks, the four accused allegedly conspired to break the padlocks and steal various items, including television sets, clothing, cutlery, and bath towels, between 2018 and May 2024. Grace Mugabe discovered the theft on May 22, 2024, during a visit to select items for donation to the African Liberation Museum. She reported the incident to Borrowdale police on May 25.

Law enforcement officials conducted a raid at Allen Chinamonya’s residence, recovering several items, including a cream men’s suit, a white short-sleeved men’s suit, bed covers, and a black and silver television set. From Danmore Chinamonya’s home, police recovered a navy blue short-sleeved men’s suit and a Zanu PF long-sleeved shirt with a floral pattern. The recovered items were positively identified by Grace Mugabe as stolen property. The total value of the recovered goods is estimated at just US$2,000, a fraction of the US$500,000 worth of items believed to have been stolen.

Nigeria's number one man, President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the National Assembly Complex. He arrived the complex as part of his itinerary to commemorate the 25 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria. Tinubu’s motorcade arrived at the National Assembly at about 11:57am and he’s yet to enter the chamber. Shortly after the president’s arrival, the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, alongside the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, entered the chamber.

Mr Akpabio announced that the president would not address the chamber but only listen to the Old National Anthem. He urged the lawmakers to download the new anthem.This is coming amid confusion from the Presidency over conflicting statements of Tinubu addressing a joint session of the National Assembly. US billionaire, Larry Connor plans to take submersible to Titanic nearly one year after OceanGate implosion. A US luxury real estate billionaire and a deep-sea explorer are planning to travel in a submersible to explore the Titanic nearly one year after the OceanGate Titan submersible implosion. The private submersible industry was rocked after five people were killed when a vessel built by OceanGate imploded en route to the Titanic last year.


Despite the implosion that rocked the world,  Ohio tycoon and adventurer Larry Connor and Patrick Lahey, co-founder of Triton Submarines, say they want to take a sub to a depth of around 3,800m (12,467ft) to see the shipwreck in the North Atlantic Ocean.

“I want to show people worldwide that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and enjoyable and really kind of life-changing if you go about it the right way,” Connor said. “Patrick has been thinking about and designing this for over a decade. But we didn’t have the materials and technology. You couldn’t have built this sub five years ago.” A spokesman for Mr. Connor’s company said on Tuesday that the proposed voyage would only take place once a vessel was fully certified by a marine organisation.

There is no timeframe for the planned expedition. But the objective of their expedition is to demonstrate that deep-sea explorations can be conducted without peril, even after the disastrous implosion of the Titan submersible in June. Recall that on June 18, 2023, the implosion of the Titan resulted in the deaths of all five passengers, including the Chief Executive Officer of OceanGate, Stockton Rush. The Titan was en route to the Titanic site when it suffered a catastrophic failure on June 18, leading to the deaths of Rush, billionaire adventurer Hamish Harding, French Titanic authority Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood along with his 19-year-old son, Sulaiman.

A man identified as Zachariyya Muhammad has been arrested by the Gombe Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the alleged abuse of the Nigerian Naira in the State. Muhammad was arrested on Saturday, May 25, 2024, based on intelligence linking him with the alleged spraying of Naira notes at G- Connect in Tunfure, Gombe State.
 
Upon his arrest, he was shown a video where he was dancing and spraying Naira notes in N200 (Two Hundred Naira) denomination. He admitted to being the one in the video. He will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

A Nigerian woman has offered advice to men who have discovered that their children aren't theirs after conducting a DNA test.
