Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Scores of People Arrested in Global Hacker Crackdown |
on: 20-05-2014 01:05 PM
| AMSTERDAM (AP) — Acting on an FBI tipoff, police worldwide have arrested 97 people in 16 countries suspected of developing, distributing or using malicious software called BlackShades that allows criminals to gain surreptitious control of personal computers, European law enforcement officials announced Monday. The malware allows hackers to steal personal information, intercept keystrokes and hijack webcams to make secret recordings of their users. BlackShades also can be used to encrypt and lock a computer’s data files, blocking the rightful owners from regaining access unless they pay a ransom. French officials said last week’s raids happened after the FBI arrested two BlackShades developers and distributed a list of their international customers who purchased the malware. Coordination agencies Europol and Eurojust, based in The Hague, Netherlands, said Monday that police in 13 European countries — Austria, Belgium, Britain, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Moldova, the Netherlands and Switzerland — as well as in the United States, Canada and Chile raided 359 properties and seized cash, firearms, drugs and more than 1,000 data storage devices. In a BlackShades-related related investigation before the latest global arrests, Dutch police earlier this year arrested a 18-year-old man for using the malware to take pictures of women and girls using about 2,000 computers. | | |

Forum / Relationships & Romance / Boys Are Not Smilling: 5 Things Nigerian Women Do That Really Annoy Nigerian Men |
on: 20-05-2014 12:49 PM
| Nigerian women too dey form. Yes, there are certain things men do that really bother women, but ladies, here's what you people do that really annoys us. (1). When you tell us what qualities you like in a man, but the men you date are entirely different than what you claim you want. This is frustrating. Any woman will tell you what they want in a man. However, their response is usually bullsh*t. Instead, they tell you what is socially acceptable to want. So many women get involved with men who make them unhappy for various and obvious reasons. For example, many women date men who are jerks. However, you'll probably never meet a woman who will tell you how much they love men who treat them poorly, because it is not socially acceptable to want to be with someone like that. Some women may justify their interest in "jerkish" men by indicating that being treated poorly somehow makes the man seem like a "badass". However, after a breakup, the same women will typically whine and complain about how there is a lack of good men in existence after dealing with these terrible men. In this case, the problem isn't the man so much as it is a woman's poor taste/judgment of men. Don't get me wrong. I know terrible men exist, but every woman has the common sense and the ability to wait for a decent guy; when you meet one, you should actually give him a chance. So wait. Good people (both male or female) are so much more worth it for the same reason gold is so valuable: rarity. (2.) When you try to change a man. Look. We get it. You're attracted to a specific guy, but unfortunately, he doesn't fit the bill of what you want in terms of his personality, his ideals, and the way he acts. Many women claim, "I'm going to change him", but this rarely works. Change in a man occurs the same way evolution does: either a drastic event causes it (mutation in the case of evolution), or it happens EXTREMELY slowly over a VERY long period of time. Unless you are the most patient person ever, I suggest you move on and find someone else. (3). You like it when a guy you're interested in becomes jealous when you receive attention from other guys.My advice to you on rectifying this one is simple. Grow up. Men get extremely annoyed when women purposefully try to make a guy jealous. Be straightforward. If you like a guy, tell him. The only person complicating things in this situation is you. (4.) When a woman acts like a "princess."This one peeves me greatly. Girls who act as if they deserve to be treated like a princess are nothing less than narcissistic. It's perfectly reasonable to hope (and expect) a decent guy to treat you that nicely, but to go around calling yourself a princess and acting like you're entitled to be treated that way is just really annoying and sad. Stop it. If anything, you deserve it much less than a girl who is decent and humble. (5.) When a woman acts/is dependent on a man. Most men prefer women who know how to be independent. Men do not like women who are clingy, nor do they like women who don't know how to take care of themselves. Learn to be you. Learn to be the best you that you can be. You will love your self so much more for doing so, and the right guys will respect you for it. | | |

Forum / Sports / Mourinho is Jealous of My CV – Van Gaal |
on: 20-05-2014 11:46 AM
| New Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, has revealed that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, sent him a text after his appointment was confirmed, to reveal his envy at the list of clubs he has managed. Van Gaal has previously coached Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich and will add United to that resume this summer. Mourinho was almost hired to take charge of Barcelona, before Pep Guardiola was eventually appointed in 2008 and it is widely reported that he was keen on succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, but David Moyes was chosen. “ Jose Mourinho was one of the first people that texted me when I got the job. He said that he was jealous of my resume of clubs,” Van Gaal said with a smirk. The 62-year-old Dutchman, was adamant that he would not have any problems with Ferguson, who is now on the board of directors at United. “ I will probably have a drink with Sir Alex Ferguson, but we’ve done that a couple of times before,” he added. “We get along quite fine. “I don’t think his pressure will be a big problem. I put a lot of pressure on myself. We need to get United back to the summit, as soon as possible.
“Maybe people will think that this will happen in the first seeason, but we’ll have to see. In the end, there’s only one team that becomes champions.” | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Soka den: Police Yet to Arrest Prime Suspect |
on: 20-05-2014 11:18 AM
| Oyo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Mohammed Indabawa said yesterday that the prime suspect in the Soka kidnappers’ den in Ibadan was yet to be arrested. He said this while speaking with newsmen at the State Police command, Eleyele, Ibadan. The CP also hinted that three suspects had already been arraigned before a magistrate court in connection with the incident. He dismissed rumour that the incident had been swept under the carpet. While pledging that the police would get to the root of the matter, he advised residents in the city not to hoard any information at their disposal but should always keep the police informed about any criminal activities in the state. Justifying that the police were working round the clock to get all the suspects arrested, he added that it was the efforts of his men and officers of the state command that led to the arrest of seven suspects. Meanwhile, when we visited the kidnappers’ den, the directive given by Governor Abiola Ajimobi that all structures on the land be demolished was yet to be complied with. We gathered that since the day the police authorities ordered that the demolition be put on hold for forensic experts to collect samples, nothing concrete has been done. When asked why the structures had not been demolished, the Special Adviser to the governor on media, Dr. Festus Adedayo said they were still waiting on the police to conclude investigations. For fear of being turned to hoodlums’ hideouts, residents in the area have made a fresh appeal to the governor to ensure that the place be cleared. Speaking to us, the community leader in the area, Mr. Isiaka Bello Olupoju said since the bulldozer left the scene about three months ago, there was nothing done on the land again. “ We are afraid that the place could be used by hoodlums again. As you can see,” he said. it has been overgrown by bush. Anytime from now, miscreants could turn the place to their use once again. We want the government to dig the place as promised, clear the land and convert it to a market where our people can buy and sell”. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / MEND Claims Responsibility For Attack on NNPC Facility in Rivers |
on: 20-05-2014 10:25 AM
| The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has claimed responsibility for Sunday’s attack on pipelines of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) refinery in Okrika, Rivers State. In a statement issued yesterday, the group said the attack was in line with the ongoing movement, ‘Hurricane Exodus’, and was intended to bring down the entire refining facility in the local government. “ This facility was infiltrated by a few of our fighters with the aid of our internal agents within the NNPC contrary to speculations that the sabotage was carried out by “pipeline vandals and oil thieves”, which is a very convenient phrase used in shielding the truth from the public.” MEND stated that thorough investigations will reveal that the bomb fragments from the blast were the same in the Warri Refinery explosion of October 22, 2013. It further warned of more attacks on the oil industry “ due to the inaction of President Goodluck Jonathan who continues to rely on an unsustainable and fraudulent Niger Delta Amnesty programme which is only a guise to line his pocket, his wife’s Patience, cronies and members of the Amnesty Committee whose sudden wealth remains unchallenged by the Nigerian media.” The group concluded that the entire Amnesty process was a fraud on the people of Nigeria who are being promised peace in the Niger Delta, in the absence of justice, adding that ‘Hurricane Exodus’ is still on course. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / US insists Boko Haram is Not a Branch of al-Qaeda |
on: 20-05-2014 10:17 AM
| The United States Government has disclosed that the Islamic sect, Boko Haram was not affiliated to the global terrorist organisation, al-Qaeda. This is coming following a declaration by President Goodluck Jonathan during the France security summit on the menace of the insurgent group on Saturday, that the Boko Haram sect, was the “al Qaeda of West Africa.” However, the US said the Boko Haram sect has no link with al-Qaeda. A statement by the US Consul General in Lagos on Monday quoted the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Wendy Sherman, as saying this on the sidelines of the summit hosted by French President Francois Hollande in Paris on Saturday. Sherman, who spoke to journalists alongside US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, and the US State Department Counter terrorism Coordinator, Tina Kaidelow, said UN sanctions on Boko Haram could be as quick as this week. She said, “Boko Haram is its own terrorist group, and the United States has designated Boko Haram as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation. In this day and age, there is probably no terror group that does not have some links somehow, even if tenuous, to some other organisation. But for the most part, we treat Boko Haram as its own terror organisation. “ When you have sanctions at the UN, it does do asset freezes, travel freezes, a variety of things. It depends on how the designation is done. But I imagine this will happen rather quickly. Quite frankly, I can’t imagine any country who would not support this designation.”According to her, the abducted schoolgirls have become “ the girls of the world, not just of Nigeria.” He added that all efforts were being put in place to ensure that the West Africa sub-region was not turned to a breeding ground for terror. She insisted that the American people “are not putting boots on the ground” in Nigeria for the girls’ rescue. Sherman noted that only intelligence assistance would be provided. “ If it were to be a rescue operation, that’s a very specific skill set and not every army in the world has that skill set. I know that there are some training, that have gone on with units of the military in Nigeria to build those skills, in other words, special forces skills. Whether they’d be able to attempt a rescue, I think it would just depend on the circumstances,” Sherman said. On her part, Thomas-Greenfield, said the US was coordinating the joint efforts to rescue the girls very closely with the other teams. “ And Nigeria has assigned a senior person who is their point of contact, and they’re working very, very closely,” Thomas-Greenfield said. | | |

Forum / Sports / At Last, Louis van Gaal (LVG) named United boss… |
on: 19-05-2014 02:38 PM
| Louis van Gaal has been confirmed as Manchester United’s new manager exclaims Manchester Evening news. And as a United fan, I am delighted to add that the 62-year-old is set to take charge after this summer’s World Cup, where he will lead Holland. Van Gaal succeeds, the desperately woeful David Moyes, who was sacked in April after just 10 months in the job. Van Gaal will be tasked with hauling the Reds back into title contention and the Champions League after the disastrous 2013/14 campaign. The Dutchman’s second spell as manager of Holland will end after the World Cup. He has also had spells in charge of Ajax, Barcelona, AZ Alkmaar and Bayern Munich. He has won league titles in Holland, Spain and Germany, as well as the 1995 Champions League with Ajax. He guided Bayern to the final in 2010 where they were beaten by Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan. Van Gaal has been the favourite for the job since United announced they were parting company with Moyes following the 2-0 defeat to Everton on April 20. Ryan Giggs, who caretaker manager for the final four games of the season, winning two, drawing one and losing one is the new Assistant manager. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Adeboye Suspends Hundreds Of Church Workers |
on: 19-05-2014 02:27 PM
| The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Adejare Adeboye, has suspended workers of the church who did not attend the National Workers Meeting held recently. The annual national workers’ meeting is a forum for all the workers of the church to meet with the leadership and it usually holds on Saturday before the Holy Ghost Service of every year. The actual number of the workers affected in eight states within the South-West Region of the church could not be ascertained as at the time of this report, but it is believed those involved cannot be less than 1,000 of the workers. The South-West Region of the church comprises Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Edo and Delta states. Some of the senior pastors of the church our correspondent spoke to on the matter were unanimous in their response to the questions put across to them. According to a senior pastor who pleaded not to be identified while speaking on why the church keeps on suspending the workers who are not being paid by the church and what if these workers had other pressing issues that made it absolutely difficult for them to attend the meeting? said: “This meeting comes up once a year and the day of the meeting is fixed. For instance if the Lord tarries in coming, every genuine and serious worker of the church knows when the meeting will hold in 2016 which is two years’ time.”He added: “ There was instruction from the office of Special Assistant to the General Overseer, passed through the pastors in charge of Provinces, through the pastors in charge of Areas down to the pastors in charge of Parishes that any worker who knows he/she would not attend the meeting should write to the General Overseer through their respective pastors in charge of Province.“ It is only indiscipline and lack of respect to the constituted authority that can make any worker fall victim of the suspension.“ It is true that the church may not be paying them since they are not full time workers of the church but what God pays them is more than what the General Overseer could have been paying them, after all, it’s not the General Overseer they are working for but God Almighty.” One of the pastors said even ‘Daddy’, as the General Overseer is called, reminded those who came for the Holy Communion Service on Thursday, preceding May 2014 Holy Ghost Service that every pastor should ensure that his/her workers who have not taken permission should come for the meeting. “That night, I sent text messages to all the pastors under me to ensure all their workers attend,” the pastor said. We learnt that the meeting which usually held at the Redemption Camp of the church had been decentralised to make it easy for the workers to attend. The church now holds workers’ meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for all the workers in the Southern part of the country while that of the North holds in Jos, Plateau State. The church started suspending absentee workers indefinitely since May 2003 to forestall indiscipline among its workforce. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Ten Feared Dead, Scores Injured in Petrol Explosion In Port Harcourt |
on: 19-05-2014 09:59 AM
| ABOUT ten persons were feared dead in the early hours of yesterday in a petrol fire explosion at a creek close to the NNPC jetty in Okrika, headquarters of Okrika local government area in Rivers state. Chairman of the local government, Mr Tamuno Williams who spoke to us said scores of persons were also rushed to undisclosed hospitals for various degree of burns. He further blamed the ugly development on illegal siphoning of crude oil from NNPC facilities in the area by illegal oil bunkers. Continuing, the Chairman of the council, Mr Williams said it would be difficult to tie a figure to the number of casualties because of the terrain. While appealing to the NNPC to protect its facilities in the area from attack by vandals the Chairman said the government had continued to put measures in place to discourage acts of illegal bunkering in the area. “ The number of casualties cannot be properly ascertained for now due to the nature of the terrain where the incident happened and the level of security within and around the NNPC Jetty. “ The fire incident is as a result of oil thieves who were siphoning oil from NNPC pipelines”. “ I am speaking from the gate of the NNPC and I have been advised to come on Monday when the officials of the NNPC who are in-charge here will be on ground. The number of casualties cannot be properly ascertained as I speak due to the nature of the terrain, within and around the jetty”. “ Those who survived were said to have been severely burnt. A lot of things are shrouded in secrecy. We have seen the fire but the NNPC have not given us permission to go in and verify the enormity of the damage. The security there is intensive, yet no NNPC staff wants to speak with us.” “ Since they are not ready to go, we chose to go there ourselves. There are, indeed, casualties but the number of casualties we cannot really confirm. We have been to the creek and we saw the pipelines connections.” “From what we saw, there is negligence on the part of the NNPC in the maintenance of their equipment. There equipment and pipes are in a state of disrepair. NNPC should take time to invest in the maintenance of their equipment.”, the local government chairman regretted.Community sources said the incident happened at about 1am yesterday. The sources who also blamed some officials of the NNPC for the ugly incident said some persons had allegedly come to lift crude from the facility, adding that as soon as they left some youths also allegedly went in fly boats to help themselves. We gathered that the crude burst into flames killing some persons because of an alleged spark on an engine in one of the flyboats used by the oil thieves. ” The engine of the fly boat was not covered so there was a spark that resulted in the fire. You know crude is highly inflammable”, a source said. The sources said some persons may have been burnt to death in the sea, adding that government should investigate staff of NNPC and security men deployed to protect oil facilities in the area. When contacted, the state Police command confirmed the fire incident, saying that it could have been cursed by the activities of oil thieves. No official of NNPC in the media department at the Port Harcourt refinery was ready to comment on the development when contacted via mobile phone. | | |

Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Fire Guts Daleko Market In Lagos |
on: 19-05-2014 09:51 AM
| Property worth millions of Naira were, yesterday, destroyed as fire razed 120 shops in the popular Daleko market in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State. It was gathered that the fire started from the vegetable oil section of the market at about 1:50 a.m, hours after the traders had closed for the day. Sources said the night guards in the market raised the alarm which further alerted residents who raced to the scene to help salvage whatever they could. But their effort proved abortive. Our correspondent learnt that the products stocked in the shops further escalated the fire. But the fire was put out one and half hours later by men of the Lagos State fire service. Speaking to us, Director of the state fire service, Mr. Rasaq Fadipe, confirmed the incident, saying: “ Immediately I received the alert, I deployed three water tankers to the scene.“ We would have been able to put out the fire few minutes after our arrival and more property would have been saved. But the fire was fuelled by the vegetable oil products stocked in the shops.” He noted that with professionalism, they were able to put out the fire at about 2:45 am. He, however, blamed the cause of the fire on power surge from the electric cables within the vegetable oil section of the market. Fadipe also called for total overall of the electrical wire in all the markets in the state. | | |

| Clarion Chukwura has told us that there is no truth to the story that she only recently joined the Actors Guild of Nigeria as alleged by the President of the guild, Ibinabo Fiberesima in her open letter. During an exclusive interview held at her Omole Phase 1 residence, she told our correspondent that her membership of the guild dates back to its formative years and she claimed to have been part of the team that endorsed the guild’s first president, Zack Orji. She further, in strong terms, called for the resignation of Fiberesima on the basis that she is an ex-convict, as stipulated in the constitution. According to her, Ibinabo’s position as the guild’s president is a misrepresentation of the interest of the likes of Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva, Pete Edochie and other well meaning actors. Chukwura has been at loggerheads with Fiberisima since she announced her intention to run for the guild’s presidency. | | |

Narrating his ordeal to , he said his vehicle developed a minor fault on Bassey Oqua Street in Calabar, near the NIS headquarters. He said after fixing it, he was leaving the area when the officials accosted and assaulted him, saying he made a U-turn at an unauthorised point " After the car developed a fault, I called some people to help push it off the road and I went home to get my two sons to buy fuel in a jerry can because I suspected it might be petrol since the gauge was faulty.I tried to start the car after refueling, but it did not start. We had to push it down the Bassey Oqua Street, which is close to the NIS residential quarters.Immediately the car started, two NIS officials flagged me down; I obeyed.
