21943  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Building Collapses In Akure Kills Two, Injures Two on: 8-05-2014 03:50 PM
Tragedy struck earlier today as a building under construction in Akure, Ondo State capital collapsed killing two people and injuring two others.

According to people who witnessed the collapse, it happened at 7:00 am when workers were just arriving at the building site to begin their work day.  Two workers were killed outright - one a teenage boy called Segun - an apprentice - who was trapped under the rubble and another teenager. Two injured men were rushed to a hospital.

Olanrawanju Moses, a worker at the site said he heard a loud  sound "gbam" and saw immediately saw rubble.

"Some of my co-workers who arrived behind me were also surprised and we did not know that people were already at the site before us.'

Sounds from the collapse attracted crowds to the area.  The incident happened along Ado-Akure road, two kilometers away from a populated motor park belonging to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state.

Two of floors of the multi-story building were complete and work had begun on the third before it collapsed. The building was supposed to be a private boarding school intended to house thousands of students.

Iyiola Akande, South West Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) said the incident is a disaster, "… the equipment used at this construction site is totally bad and not good enough. We should ensure adequate monitoring of workers, contractors and builders and there should be competent engineers that would monitored the process of construction from the beginning to the end."

But he added, "We do not have the capacity for enforcement but we are working with other government agencies to ensure we respond to disasters timely when they occur."

People familiar with the area told our reporters the land where the building was being constructed is swampy, and its foundations were not properly sand filled before construction began.

Observers said the catastrophe could have been bigger as it could have collapsed when it was completed and occupied by students.

The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Bade Omoloja said, "This is a total calamity due to the loss of life. This building had no approval to begin with because our men at the task force unit of the ministry have been here on two different occasions to stop work. Obviously, very poor quality of work was carried out at the site. There are so many building outside here that doesn't have approvals."

He added the state government will immediately order the construction engineers to stop work at the site until an investigation into the causes of the collapse takes place.

Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force spokesman, Wole Ogodo said police officers maintained peace and order at the collapse site but the incident comes when the State is reeling over news of the recent kidnappings.

Officials of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), the men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), State Security Services (SS) and other rescue agencies were all at the site to help with the rescue.

21947  Forum / The Buzz Central / “I am taking Igbo rap to the next level” – Phyno on: 8-05-2014 12:50 PM
In a recent chat , he talked about his adaptation of indigenous language and its importance in the music industry.

As of the time I entered the industry, indigenous rap music was just gaining ground. People still looked at indigenous artistes as local and uneducated people. I do indigenous rap because I think that is what I can do best, not because I cannot rap in English. Whenever I rap in Igbo, I end up being the real me. And judging from the criticisms I got from people, it took guts for me to get there. We cannot continue to emulate international rappers for long. We at some point will have to be ourselves. I don’t think it is proper to do what every other person does. However, it depends on the next level you are talking about. No one should determine my next level. I determine my next level.” he stated As an Ambassador of rap music in Igbo language, he shared his thoughts on the indigenous language “I grew up speaking Igbo. I grew up in Enugu State, and I do not agree with people who feel that the Igbo language is facing some sort of extinction. I think the presence of music has done a lot of good to the Igbo language. Outside this country, Igbo songs are being played and listened to. Even white people are singing Parcel. And it is likely that they would go around asking their Nigerian friends what the meaning of the song is. As far as I am concerned, Igbo language is not dying. And if it is, I will blame parents and teachers for not doing their work, because if you look at the number of gospel songs in Nigeria, you will find out that majority of them are done in Igbo. And for those who sell these gospel songs in the market, it will be absurd to tell them that Igbo language is dying. And I think it depends the aspect we are looking at it.”

On gaining acceptance from those who do not understand Igbo, he said, “I know there is nowhere in Nigeria that my music is not played. I do not only rap in Igbo; I also combine a bit of pidgin and English. Sometimes the lyrics are English. Let’s not also forget about the beat. So, when these elements are rolled into one, those who do not understand all of the rap will definitely flow with the beat. And I should say one beautiful thing about music is that beside language (which is never a barrier), we can still appreciate a piece of music whenever we hear it. I can listen to a Spanish song even when I do not understand what they are saying and I will be like ‘Wow! This guy is on point.’ I listen to French songs. I do not understand French. I listen to anything as long the music elements are well used. For instance, you know how Awilo sold in Nigeria even when we did not (understand) a word he was saying. Look at those guys from Ghana, the VIP group. We bought their song just like that, the language barrier notwithstanding. I don’t understand Yoruba, but the first time I heard Olamide’s song, I completely loved it. So, I think in music, we have to look beyond language” he quipped

Former Mo’Hits co-owner D’banj has said the split with Don Jazzy didn’t affect his musical career negatively. Speaking  in a recent interview, he claimed the split took his career to another level.

Though the singer didn’t deny the emotional effect it had on him, he stressed the fact that it didn’t affect his music negatively.

Any split or break up will affect anyone because you are used to a way of working and for me, it did. But I always look at the light at the end of the tunnel. It was after the split that I had my first global hit ‘Oliver Twist’. It hit the top ten in the United Kingdom and also it was when other endorsements came through, such as the theme song for Africa Cup of Nation ‘Top of the world’. I got to perform it in front of 92,000 people. Also I was made a GLO Ambassador and also an ambassador of the Bank for Industry. But Don jazzy is one of Nigeria’s most amazing producers and will continue to be so, I respect his work tremendously. He is also a long time friend and brother.

The Controller of the service in the state, Alhaji Rauf Adegboyega, said on Wednesday, in Yola, that the arrest was part of the renewed effort by the command to check illegal entry into the country.
Adeboyega said the suspects, who allegedly gained entry into the country without valid documents, comprised 36 men and nine women.
We are not saying that foreigners should not come into the country but when they are coming they should come with their valid documents so that we will be able to identify them.
It will make our job of monitoring their activities in the country easier.
He said that those arrested would be repatriated to their countries.
Adegboyega commended the support received from residents and community leaders in exposing the illegal aliens.
According to him, the current security challenges in the country has made it imperative for everyone to be security conscious.

WARRI—POLICE in Delta State have arrested six persons in connection with the killing of the chairmen of Udu Central Vigilante Red Bar Security, Prosper Erhinyojare and Godwin Migaga  in Udu Local Government Area of the state.

He said: “Items recovered from them include two AK 47 rifles, 90 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and two locally made cut to size single barrelled shot-guns.
The arrested suspects, some of whom had made confessional statements highlighting their functions and degree of involvement in the dastardly act, at the completion of investigation, will be charged to court.
Investigation has further revealed that the intention of the hoodlums was to instil fear in the populace by brutally killing the two vigilante chiefs, who had done so much to aid security agencies in their duties of law enforcement.
“The Command and its personnel will not relent until all the culprits indentified are brought to book. We, however, implore the people of Delta State not to be deterred as the Police cannot do without their continuous support, particularly in this perilous time. With their collective input, we have the capacity to contain the criminal elements in our midst most of whom, from evidence at our disposal, drift into Delta State from the sister states.
21954  Forum / The Buzz Central / EFCC Traces N200m to Prisons Accountant on: 8-05-2014 10:12 AM
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested the head of Capital Accounts at the Nigerian Prisons Service, NPS, Abuja, for alleged corruption, money laundering and abuse of public office.
Imaobong Akon Esu-Nte, a level 14 officer, who is on secondment to the NPS from the Federal Ministry of Finance, was picked up by the operatives of the EFCC, Tuesday, and grilled for several hours over the huge amount of money found in companies’ accounts all traced to her.
Operatives of the agency reportedly swooped on Esu-Nte following intelligence reports that she had been using her office to transact business as a private contractor in violation of extant public service regulation, which forbids civil servants from doing so.
Investigators said that the lifestyle of the suspect, who is on a monthly salary of N121, 460 was at variance with the level of opulence being displayed by her.
Apart from tracing the sum of N200 million to companies owned by her and her children, the EFCC said the woman had also been remitting money amounting to N60 million into the account of an Abuja-based Pentecostal church.
She is also said to be in possession of several exotic cars and property in various parts of Abuja.
The commission said that among the property were a palatial mansion, a duplex with two-bedroom Boys Quarters at Sun City Estate, Abuja and another duplex at Karu Extension, Abuja, now nearing completion.
Three top of the range automobiles were recovered from her at the time of arrest. They include a Mercedes Benz ML 350 4matic, Mercedes Benz GL 500 and a Toyota Sienna.
EFCC sources said Esu-Nte’s arrest was triggered by intelligence report on suspicious in-flow of huge funds into her account with a new generation bank.
Close scrutiny of the account by investigators literally opened a can of worms, as it came to light that the suspect “is the promoter and signatory to the accounts of three companies: Abasiaga Global Resources Limited, Abasiono Nigeria Limited and Ememima Global Ventures Limited, which she established shortly after being posted to the NPS.”
Curiously too, all the directors are the suspect’s children. She was also said to be the owner of two other companies- Darima Properties and ID Petroleum, into which a huge amount of unjustified cash had been flowing into steadily.
The accounts of her companies were said to have recorded an inflow of about N200million between 2009 and now.
Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest of the woman, but warned public officers engaged in corrupt practices to desist or risk the wrath of the law.

Brazil’s loftiest teen is set to become the world’s tallest bride after her fiancee popped the big question.

Aspiring model Elisany da Cruz Silva who is a staggering 6ft 8ins tall has been dating 5ft 4ins Francinaldo da Silva Carvalho for more than three years. Despite a massive 1ft 4ins between them, Francinaldo had no problem increasing the distance by dropping to one knee after a romantic stroll along the beach.

The lovestruck pair have shared a small home in the Brazilian town of Salinopolis for one year and are hoping to soon hear the pitter patter of tiny feet. Elisany is so stuck on having a child that she is willing to adopt if she does not fall pregnant soon – despite being only 18.
The youngster is worried that she may not conceive because of a form of gigantism that was caused when a tumour grew on her pituitary gland.
Despite this the couple are still looking forward to a long and happy life together.

Remembering the romantic proposal, Elisany said: ‘I told him many times, ‘do not ask me to marry you because my answer will be no’ – I think that’s what he was thinking.
She’s still an aspiring model? Does she even need to aspire?
21957  Forum / The Buzz Central / TB Joshua Delivers Notorious Drug Baron on: 7-05-2014 02:29 PM
One of Liberia’s most notorious drug lords by the name of Emmanuel Fahnbulleh gave up his criminal activities after praying with Nigeria’s Prophet T.B. Joshua on his highly popular television station, Emmanuel TV.

Ironically, it was a Nigerian who introduced him to the shady business 18 years ago, just as it was a Nigerian who was used by God to rescue him. Here is the full report:
In a rather unruffled and undisturbed state of mind, Emmanuel Fahnbulleh divulged his long-running obsession with being one of Liberia's most dangerous and feared drug dealers, distributors and users.
Fahnbulleh, who said he is now converted, has been in the field of selling drugs of all sorts to Liberians for eighteen years before God arrested and transformed him. His case is similar to that of Saul who was arrested on the road to Damascus and transformed to an abiding believer of the Lord.
Yesterday, Fahnbulleh told Power TV's phone-in talk show how bad he was during his drug-dealing spree, bragging that he was matchless in his field.
But as conscience is said to be a judge of every man, so the converted drug dealer realised his errors and offered a heartfelt apology to the nation and those who might have been affected in one way or the other by his drug dealing activities. "I want to first of all in this public manner apologize to the nation, my brothers and sisters out there who my drug deals might have affected in any way, to go against one another in the homes. I have been one of the major, major, major contributors of that problem," he said in a very unassuming manner.

Fahnbulleh, who provided historical background about how he got baptised into drug dealing, said it was a Nigerian national who wooed and changed him into one of Liberia's most feared dealers.

"It all started in 1996, just before the April 6 crisis, when I came across my own satan. This Nigerian fellow I met that day was my own of encounter with the devil, because he was like my devil," he said, while at the same time distancing himself from having any physical contact or interaction with the devil.

He said he called the Nigerian 'devil' because his intervention in his life thwarted his academic brightness as an upcoming student in the community. "When this guy came in the community, he came across me and called me to come. He said to me, 'You are a smart kid; you can push this thing'. He gave me the first 10 kilograms of cocaine. At that time, my brother, you could not sell 5 grams of cocaine in Liberia a day because it was not easy," Fahnbulleh divulged.

In spite of the roughness and hardness of the market at the time for reasons he did not say, he noted that he was able to distribute at least 60 grams of cocaine every day.

Through the grace of God, the self-proclaimed drug pusher explained he is now a Christian and worshipping with the Trinity Healing Temple of Jesus Christ, which is led by Mother Esther B. Davies.

Fahnbulleh, who also explained how his conversion came about, said, "It was around the month of April, about the 23rd, 24th this year when one of my friends came by and said to me, 'Emma, why can't you watch this TV station of Pastor T.B. Joshua (Emmanuel TV)? You might get something from there."

In a rather rushed fashion, he said he tuned to the TV station and the first thing he saw was the man of God praying for viewers. He heard T.B. Joshua say, "I command whatever that is in you that is not of God to come out right now!"

At that moment, Fahnbulleh said his entire life dramatically changed. "I could not do anything; I did not know what I was doing at that moment."

Right away, he explained further, he was touched to give back all the illegal drugs in his possession, including a huge pack of cocaine worth US$1,500. "I called everybody to come for their things; I told them I did not want money from them again because I did not want to have anything to do with drugs," he said.

Fahnbulleh has now joined the campaign to make Liberia a drug-free nation, in consonance with the drug law of the Republic of Liberia.
