My father’s death should not be used for politics because I will resist any attempt to hijack the burial plans by politicians. My father was not a politician when he was alive. This is a warning to those who are already making plans to use his death to advance their political careers. 
When he was sick, nobody visited him in the hospital except his family. Whatever arrangement, anybody is making, the family must be carried along. I will not hesitate to embarrass anybody who wants to take the family for granted. I am not against the federal government giving my father a state burial because he deserved it, but the family must be carried along in whatever plans they are making. Meanwhile, we are yet to announce the burial arrangements.#

That horrific video posted on the Internet is a clear manifestation of the mindlessness of the bigots. It shows them for whom they are, such men cannot threaten nor should they be allowed to violate our sovereignty. It is clear from what they profess that they are not followers of God. They do not mean well for our country and her citizens. I am a Muslim, I am versed in the teaching of Christianity and I understand both religions to seek peaceful co-existence of all humanity.

I wish to reiterate that there is no justification whatsoever for this unrestrained disregard for the sanctity of human life. It has no place in the Holy Quran and neither does it have a place in the Holy Bible.

Let these people know that the entire civilized world is united against their terrorist act. We are grateful to the world for standing by Nigeria at this trying time. We hope and pray that the young ladies will be reunited with their respective families in the days to come.

While the Federal Government and the nation’s Armed Forces are working to ensure citizens’ safety under the present situation, we believe that more could still be done to ensure the safety of Nigerians and the Nigerian nation. We are therefore glad that the Federal Government has accepted international support in the search for the missing girls and for an end to the insurgency in parts of the country.

I fought for a united Nigeria. In my old age, I want my grand children, your grand children, our youths and indeed all Nigerians to benefit from a prosperous and united country devoid of sectarian violence whether home grown or imposed on us from outside.

Now is not the time to play politics. Now is also not the time to trade blames and amplify our ideological differences. The unity of Nigeria is not negotiable and nothing should divide us as a people. I therefore urge all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to support the country in her effort to bring an end to this attack on defencelesscitizens and indeed a united nation.

We must put aside all other considerations and ensure that our country Nigeria pulls together now so as to recover our sovereignty. After all, we all know that Nigeria is the ONLY country we have that we can call our own.
God help and bless Nigeria.

Adetola Adesotan, on Thursday told an Ojokoro Magistrates' Court, Lagos, how Adefemi Adetiba, posed as a herbalist and defrauded her the sum of N500, 000.

The accused is standing trial for a two-count charge of theft and obtaining money under false pretences before Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni.
The prosecutor, Insp. Lugard Ahonle, told the court that the man approached the complainant on October 16, 2013 at Oja-Oba, in Abule-Egba, Lagos, while giving direction to a location. 
"After describing the place, a man decided to take him there, but he begged me to follow them claiming that he was new in Lagos and did not want to be defrauded" Adesotan told the court. "The accused said his wife needed medical attention and that was why he came to Lagos to look for money. When we got there, the accused posed as a herbalist and said that I and my family members would die within seven days if I had not brought the man. He said all the money in my house had been cursed and asked me to go and bring everything for cleansing after which he collected my ATM card and the pin. I went home and gathered N380, 000 and gave to the accused after which I saw an alert that the N120, 000 in my GTB account had also been withdrawn". 

Adesotan said that she was promised that the money would be returned to her after the cleansing, but he failed to do so.
Kayode Rufus, counsel to the accused argued during the cross-examination that the complainant did not give any money to the accused, while the prosecuting counsel had alleged that the accused on October 16, 2013 at Iju road, Fagba, Lagos, obtained N500, 000 from the complainant on the pretext of averting her death.
The prosecutor said that the offences were contrary to Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The defence counsel, however, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him to get more facts
The Magistrate adjourned the case to May14 for continuation of cross-examination.

A 38-year-old man, Kunle Owotuyi, was on Thursday remanded by an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates' Court for allegedly molesting a 26-year-old lady.

Cpl. Monica Ikebuilo, the police prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 29 at Erinjiyan-Ekiti.
According to her, the accused on the said date unlawfully raped the lady without her consent.
Ikebuilo informed the court that the offence was contrary to section 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor said she had forwarded the case file to the Directorate of Public prosecution(DPP) for legal advice.
Meanwhile, the plea of the accused was not taken while his counsel, Sola Fapohunda, sought for adjournment pending receipt of legal advice.
Magistrate Doyin Akosile ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to June 2 for further hearing.

Nearly 300 schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria by Islamist militants could be released in exchange for jailed comrades, a former Boko Haram negotiator has reportedly said.

The group snatched the girls from their boarding school in Chibok in the lawless Borno region in the north of the country.

A former mediator of the group has told the Telegraph he believes the video, where Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau threatens to sell the girls as slaves, shows he plans to use them as ‘bargaining chips’ rather than kill them.

Shehu Sani says he believes that the footage, released on Monday, was an attempt to persuade the Nigerian government into a prisoner trade.

He told the newspaper: ‘From my knowledge of the group, to have him saying that he will sell them is proof that this issue can be resolved.

‘The group is most likely to want to attach some kind of conditions to the girls being released, such as the freeing of some of their own prisoners.
