4  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Man allegedly killed in Festac by the police on: 12-05-2014 09:15 AM

Friends of late Oyoma Edewor (pictured above) reached out to me to put the info out there that he was allegedly shot dead by the Nigerian police at the 3rd Gate check point in Festac, Lagos on Saturday night. Below is how one of his best friends tells the story of what happened that unfortunate night

"Someone I grew up with was killed yesterday by the police. He was raised in Festac and was killed in festac by the same people who are sworn to protect us. His car broke down and he called a towing van. While on their way, they were stopped by the police. The driver of the van refused to stop for whatever reason. When he eventfully stopped, the driver ran out leaving Oyoma Edewor and his friends to deal with the police.

They were Asked to sit on the floor which they did. While explaining to the officers what had happened, one of them opened fire in Oyoma. The crowd which had gathered seeing this got involved. The policeman said he suspected he stole the vehicle. If you know Festac, you would know it's a small community. Passerby identified him as a member of the community. When the police realized a mob was growing, they fled the scene. Word spreading now is that the policeman was drunk and off duty. This is not the first person being killed by the police. Its very sad this is still happening. The IG's son was involved in a crash, it's news but someone's child was murdered in cold blood and there is silence. Oyoma cannot die in vain. Let the authorities hear about it. Please forward to anyone you know. Broadcast this I beg of you. The blood of the innocent are being shed.

5  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Wickedness: Day Old Baby Abandoned By Road Side In Lagos on: 12-05-2014 09:11 AM

While many women are looking unto God for a child, a day-old baby was at the weekend found dumped by the road side in Lagos.

*The abandoned baby

As at the time of compiling this report, it was not yet known who could have abandoned the male child at a point near Abule Onigbagbo Bus Stop in Ikeja.

According to PUNCH Metro, the incident occurred on Thursday when the baby was found wrapped with an ankara attire and left by the road side.

It was informed that some unidentified residents of the area saw the baby around 7.30am and within few minutes, a lot of other residents in the community surrounded the baby and started cursing the mother that subjected him to that cruel fate.

The baby was said to be weak and frail when he was discovered and as a result, the people decided to contact the chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Mr. Babatunde Oke, about the presence of an abandoned baby in his council area.

Reports say the council boss reached out to the Supervisory Councillor for Health, Mr.Gbenga Adedeji, who went to the scene with an ambulance. Adedeji and reportedly took the child away.

”We took him to the Oregun Primary Health Centre where he was bathed, fed and given medication,” Adedeji told a reported when contacted on the matter.

However, it was gathered that the baby was later transferred to the Little Saints Orphanage, Onipanu, Lagos, from where the orphanage transferred him to their branch at the Akowonjo area.

7  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Donald Sterling Apologises for Racist Remarks... on: 12-05-2014 08:49 AM

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who was banned for life from the NBA over racist comments, has apologised and asked for forgiveness in his first public statement since the controversy began last month, CNN said on Sunday.

In an interview to be broadcast on Monday, Sterling told CNN he's sorry but feels he was "baited" to make racist comments:
"When I listen to that tape, I don't even know how I can say words like that. ... I don't know why the girl had me say those things."

"You're saying you were set up?" Cooper asked. Sterling replied:
Well yes, I was baited. I mean, that's not the way I talk. I don't talk about people for one thing, ever. I talk about ideas and other things. I don't talk about people. I'm not a racist. I made a terrible, terrible mistake. And I'm here with you today to apologize and to ask for forgiveness for all the people that I've hurt."

Asked by Cooper why he took so long to say he's sorry, Sterling said he was "emotionally distraught."
"The reason it's hard for me, very hard for me, is that I'm wrong. I caused the problem. I don't know how to correct it."
Sterling said he doesn't want his comments to eclipse his lengthy tenure with the NBA.
I'm a good member who made a mistake and I'm apologizing and I'm asking for forgiveness. Am I entitled to one mistake, am I after 35 years? I mean, I love my league, I love my partners. Am I entitled to one mistake? It's a terrible mistake, and I'll never do it again."
Now, Sterling said, his fate is in the league's hands.

"If the owners feel I have another chance, then they'll give it to me," he said.

8  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / #BringBackOurGirls: Okonjo-Iweala “Tired” Of Talking About Missing Chibok Girls on: 12-05-2014 08:08 AM

Finance Finister Okonjo-Iweala says the stories have been the same.
Nigeria’s finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, slipped up Friday in a rare media gaffe, telling a reporter for American television, ABC, she was tired speaking about the abduction of more than 276 school girls in Chibok, Borno State.

“I’m tired of the same stories,” the minister said after being cornered by the reporter for an unplanned interview at the World Economic Forum meeting in Abuja.

Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala explained she was not competent to speak on the issue since she was not the government spokesperson.

But it seemed the minister soon realized her mistake and promptly agreed to make some explanations on the government’s effort at dealing with the abductions.

The reporter had asked about Amnesty International’s report that the Nigerian military received advance warning and yet failed to stop Boko Haram from taking the girls April 14 from their dormitories.

“I cannot answer those questions. I am the minister of finance. I can only tell you about the full commitment of the government and the pledge of the international community as demonstrated by this conference,” she responded.

Asked what the government was doing about rescuing the girls, the minister said “everything” was being done.

“The government has sent out additional troops, the government is doing aerial surveillance, the government is working with companies that have satellite, the government is working with the U; is waiting for the promised help from all the sources that have pledged,” she said.

“The government, with the private sector, has supported the initiatives lunched here for Safe Schools for our children. So, the government is doing the maximum it can, it has opened the crises centre so that they can provide up-to-date information. Everything is being done, like I said terror will win when we divide.”

The minister said the objective of Boko Haram, the extremist group responsible for the abductions, was to stop the world community from coming to Nigeria.

“That’s why they did that; and the world community said, ‘No, we will come to support our girls.’ And they’ve come in solidarity. This is the largest ever world economic forum conference ever after Davos,” she added.

The minister then broke off from the interview as the ABC reporter pressed for specific details of the government’s engagement with Boko Haram, advising him instead to speak to Nigerian military authorities.

That explanation appeared of little help as hours later, ABC News published its story headlined, “Nigeria official says she’s tired of talking about the kidnapped girls”.

Apparently to pre-empt a backlash, the minister released a transcript of the interview on her Facebook page late Saturday; but the transcript excluded the initial exchange with the journalist.

The Nigerian government has come under intense scrutiny over its handling of the kidnapping after it took more than two weeks for President Goodluck Jonathan to respond to the raid.

A day after the incident, Mr. Jonathan was photographed singing and dancing at a political rally in Kano State, despite at least 75 people having been killed in a car bomb in Abuja on the same day the kidnapping occured.
Mr. Jonathan has said the abduction of the school girls is the “beginning of end” of Boko Haram.

The Nigerian police this afternoon tried to stop protesters from gathering at the Unity fount for a #BringBackOurGirls sit-in in Abuja. The police didn't want the peaceful meeting to happen and sent officers to the location to disperse the few that gathered there and stopped many from coming to the meeting.

But despite the interruption from police, the group eventually held the meeting peacefully. See more photos after the cut...

10  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Another Boko Haram member captured in TB Joshua's church... on: 12-05-2014 07:30 AM

Let me just put a disclaimer here...I didn't write this o! :-). Article written by Ihechukwu Njoku - a freelance Nigerian journalist who writes for Synagogue Church. and submitted to
.Read his new piece below...

Another member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect allegedly confessed at Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua’s church today, stating that he was being paid N2,000,000 to bomb churches.
Nearing the end of the service, during the time Joshua’s ‘Wise Men’ were minisring ‘deliverance’ to people, an aggressive young man dressed in a shabby suit was ushered forward.
“I am one of the Boko Haram,” the man declared to the wise man, clearly under an unusual influence.“They said they would give me N2,000,000 if I went to blow up a church,” the man continued upon questioning as to how he joined the infamous group of insurgents. “Every church would be N2,000,000. They said would be give me big house and a wife.” Continue...
Boko Haram has been the focus of huge international media attention following their claiming responsibility for the kidnapping of over 200 girls several weeks ago.

Queried as to why he came to the church, the man stated, “I have been hearing of T.B. Joshua – that is why I came here.” The wise man then prayed for the man who fell heavily to the ground, before being declared free from the ‘evil spirit’.

Several minutes later, T.B. Joshua himself returned to the service simply clad in jeans and a t-shirt. “I was in the prayer room when I heard the deliverance going on and listened to the confession of this guy. What he was confessing is mind-boggling,” the cleric told the congregation.

Bringing the man back before the congregation, Joshua questioned him further as to how he was initiated into the sect. “My name is Hosea Bulus,” the man began. “They gave me blood; they gave me charms. I took it inside food.”

According to Bulus, upon taking the diabolic ‘blood’, the urge to kill and destroy entered him. “If you talk to me, I will fight you very well,” he confessed.

Joshua emphasised to the congregation that the battle was more spiritual than physical. “One thing you must know – we are fighting evil spirits that steal, kill and destroy. Let us not fight our neighbours.”

He insisted the problem was not a Muslim-Christian issue. “They are using that name as a camouflage, as a cover up,” he stated, adding that no one could bring himself to killing innocent lives without being under the influence of an ‘evil spirit’.

Joshua then prayed for the man, who fell to his knees and immediately complained that he wanted to visit the toilet.

The popular pastor reminded the congregation of the well-publicized deliverance of an alleged Boko Haram member named ‘Mustapha’ two months ago at The SCOAN who stated he came to bomb the church with four accomplices.

He explained that authorities in Abuja have certified the authenticity of his confession, contrary to the statement released by Lagos State Police Commissioner Umar Manko who initially dismissed the claims.

“At the beginning they said it’s not true but the authorities in Abuja came out to confirm that he is truly a Boko Haram member… They are following it up.”

The cleric concluded by stating he would not ask any further questions publicly so as not to undermine the intelligence Hosea would be able to provide to the relevant authorities.

Several minutes later, the man was shown excreting out some blackish substances following the prayer.

11  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Nigerian Immigration reacts to Davido's claims of harrassment by their officers on: 12-05-2014 07:21 AM

A few days ago, Davido tweeted that he missed his flight to London because of immigration officers who were harassing him at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja because of money. The Nigerian Immigration Service has responded to Davido's claims.

In a statement released today by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Emeka Obua, they said Davido had approached immigration officers at MMIA on the fateful day with the intention of travelling out of the country and presented a US passport number 460918874 issued at Georgia on Dec. 14,  2009 and valid till December 14, 2019.

It explained that the officer that attended to him drew his attention to the fact that his US passport had no Nigerian visa on it with which he would have been admitted into the country, and Davido reportedly responded that he had a Nigerian passport but forgot it at home. Continue...

The statement said,
“The officer now informed him that he should go and bring the Nigerian passport to convince him that he did not enter Nigeria illegally with a foreign passport without visa. Adeleke started arguing with the officer, who had to refer the case to his superiors and the verdict was that he could not make the trip unless he produced the said Nigerian passport.
“Livid with anger, Adeleke, in company with his bodyguards, started protesting in a disorderly manner, prompting the Comptroller of Immigration in-charge at MMIA to intervene. He advised Adeleke to call his bodyguards to order (caution) and comply with the lawful instruction which would not only erase any doubt as to his immigration status but also establish his claim to dual citizenship.”
Davido was said to have left and on the following day produced his Nigerian e-passport with number A02227477 issued at Abuja on August13, 2010 and valid till August 12, 2015.

The NIS stated that the passport was endorsed and the artiste then proceeded on his trip.

The statement added,
“This behaviour of Adeleke is quite unfortunate. One would ordinarily have expected some form of commendation from him for the professional manner the officers, who attended to him, conducted themselves especially in  saving him from  embarrassment at some international port of entry by ensuring that his passport is endorsed as is the law and practice in Nigeria .
“The intention of this statement is not to to join issues with Mr. Adeleke but to set the facts of the incident, as it happened at MMIA on the said day straight."

14  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Genevieve Nnaji talks about Abducted Girls on CNN on: 10-05-2014 07:00 AM

Genevieve was on CNN at 8:30pm  tonight where she talked  to Max Foster about the abducted Chibok girls .In as much as she was very careful with her words she did give good answers…

Genevieve ‘Nnaji’ is an actress, model and singer who has been raising awareness on the #BringBackOurGirls campaign. She told me they won’t stop till the missing girls are found. Take a listen

“Everyone is involved .We are all mothers ,we are all humans and these are young girls that have been taken to captivity. We just felt that some of us who have a bigger face in terms of being celebrities and  having a fan base,we thought it was our responsibility to help shed light and bring to the forefront this inhumane act “

On the government’s response being slow….

“For me I think it will be unfair to say they were slow to react because nobody knew whether they reacted or not. The thing is we we weren’t told, we didn’t know if they were aware of the situation or not. The major problem we had was the lack of communication. We just wanted them to react to us. Now we can see things being put in place, now we can see effort being made and that will be credited to the noise that’s been made, the campaigning that’s been made around the world. We are grateful for all the attention and what it has done is created hope in a situation that seemed hopeless in the beginning.”

BnOXMHSIAAAwqx0

On foreign support……..

“This has been going on way too long and there’s no shame asking for help and in taking it. The truth is, terrorism is not only our problem. It is not a continent problem, it is a global issue and we all have to come together to help it because at the end of the day this is a breach of human rights is something that should concern each and everyone of us.So it is welcome “

How has the crises affected Nigeria

I think the situation is becoming a bit to close to home  and it has nothing to do with gender or religion. This is a human rights problem. We are all human and what is going on is very inhuman if you ask me.And it has given us confidence to know that our voices are heard allover the world and we won’t stop till we bring back the girls

15  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 'I no longer sleep with my two eyes closed' - President Jonathan on: 10-05-2014 06:56 AM

President Jonathan today revealed that since the abduction of the Chibok girls on April 14th, he does not sleep with his two eyes closed anymore. The president made this remark during the closing media conference of the just concluded World Economic Forum Africa today. What he said below...

"Let me also use this unique opportunity to thank all of you who have shown commitment and concern those of you in Nigeria and those of you outside this country to continue to press on that these terrorists must bring back our girls. And they have no choice because I am quite pleased that the whole world is signing the same message that they must bring back our girls. And there is no where they will take this girls to, they have no hiding place, we must work with the global community that is quite keen to make sure that we bring back this girls. We plead with the parents as a father and the President of this country, I feel pained and I don’t sleep with my two eyes closed and I will not sleep with my two eyes closed until these girls are brought safely back to their parents. I thank you for all the concern, for all the sentiments, communications you are putting across to the rest of the world about what we are doing and of course where the world wants to support us.” he said.

Meanwhile an Amnesty International report released today, May 9th, states that the Nigerian military was notified of the Boko Haram attack four hours before they arrived the Government Girls Secondary School where they abducted the young girls.
According to  Makmid Kamara, the Nigeria researcher for Amnesty International, indigenes of Chibok community who spoke with Amnesty officials on the condition of anonymity said they had informed military personnel in the area around 7pm that evening of a pending attack by Boko Haram but no one mobilized for military backup until the Boko Haram men came calling at 11.45pm
"We received information and we spoke to a senior Nigerian military officer, who spoke to us on condition of anonymity, that they had received intelligence reports, even before local authorities and politicians got the information, that gunmen were on their way to the Chibok town"
"When I spoke to one of the senior military officials, they informed me that they [had] informed their superiors, and requested for reinforcement. But the reinforcement did not come." By the time the Boko Haram men came, only 17 soldiers were on ground and they could not withstand the emissaries the Islamic sect men came with.
"Only 17 troops were there to face the attack and they were outgunned and outnumbered. They had to flee for their lives together with some other villagers who fled to the bush," Kamara said.

16  Forum / The Buzz Central / Chris Brown sentenced to 1 year in jail. To spend only 131 days on: 10-05-2014 06:55 AM

TMZ just reported this breaking news...Chris Brown was a few hours ago sentenced one year in jail for violating his probation in the Rihanna case during an appearance in court today. But thankfully he will only spend 131 days or less in jail for time already spent in jail.

TMZ reports
Chris Brown was in court Friday afternoon, where he admitted he violated his probation by getting into a fight with a dude in Washington D.C.
That's all the judge needed to hear. He sentenced Chris to 1 year in jail. However, Chris got credit for 116 days he spent in rehab, and another 59 days behind bars. That leaves 131 days in the pokey.
But we're told the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept has been releasing inmates sentenced to 1 year after 240 days.  And here's the thing. Chris gets credit for 2 days for every 1 he served behind bars, so when you add it up, he has credit for 234 days -- 6 days shy.  So he could be released in days. Continue ..
The judge could have gone a lot harder -- 4 years in prison.  But Chris got a break because the judge took into account he was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which could account for some of the violence.

The judge also ordered Chris to attend therapy sessions with a shrink 2 times a week.   And he must submit to random drug testing 3 times a week.

Chris is not out of the legal woods ... his D.C. assault trial is set to start in the following months
