Anna Patrick’s name might not ring a bell but people in Nollywood know her well. Having featured in over ten films, this fast rising actress is set to take her place in Nollywood, in an interview with vanguard, Anna says most actresses rushing off to Asaba to act, only go there to sleep with directors for roles, some even pay to act and appear on posters and movie jackets.

Below Is what she said in a recent interview with Vanguard…

You talked of se.x.ual harassment, is it real in Asaba?

Yes, this is because there are a lot of desperate actresses who sleep their way to the top. Some of them would go as far as paying to get movie roles. Those who are talented are not given the needful opportunity to express themselves. That’s what we are experiencing here, in Asaba.

Are you saying that not having a mentor exposes these young actresses to all kinds of treatment in the industry?

It’s not really the issue of having a manager or a mentor because the idea of signing a contract is not yet popular in Asaba. But I consider it as the wisest thing any young actress should do, if she must make it in the industry. It will not only help such actress to be focused, and appreciated, rather it will also help her to stay away from all kinds of se.xual advances by the producers. I didn’t experience any form of intimidation or harassment because I got signed to an agency that grooms actors.

If you didn’t sign the contract, what would you have done?

I wouldn’t have continued my career in acting based on the fact that the pressure was getting unbearable for me.

What pressure?

The pressure from producers and directors who want to sleep with these up and coming actresses. Sometimes, they compel them to pay before getting roles in their new productions.

How much do they pay per movie role?

It depends on the individual actress, I can’t put a figure to it now. But that’s the tradition in Asaba.

It means that s*xual harassment is real in the industry?

Yes, it’s real. I have been harassed by both producers and directors. Sometimes, when you refuse their advances, they would start to antagonise you. Some of them would start seeing you as a very proud person.

A former Deputy Minister of Local Government, Godfrey Kamanya (pictured above) reportedly committed suicide today May 22nd, barely a day after the Malawi elections results started filtering in showing that he'd lost the parliamentary seat he was competing for in the 2014 Tripartite elections.

According to local news report, Mr Kamanya shot himself around 3:30 this morning at his house in Area 10, Lilongwe after losing the Lilongwe Msodzi North Parliamentary elections this week.
 "We had to break the door to his kitchen where he had locked himself up," Kamanya's friend also a member of Banda's People's Party - told Zodiak broadcasting.
In the suicide note, the former minister reportedly said he took his life because of misunderstandings related to politics and outlined how his wealth should be distributed to beneficiaries. Police are currently investigating the incident.

52 year old Imo state born Onyejiaju Augustine was arrested yesterday by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for being in possession of 2.605 kilogrammes of cocaine packed as candies. He was arrested at the  Muritala Mohammed International Airport as he was about to smuggle the illegal drug out of the country en-route Etihad, Punch reports.
 
NDLEA spokesman Michelle Ofoyeju said Onyebuchi had been on the wanted list of the agency
"Augustine, who is a specialist in drug had earlier departed Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the illicit drug disguised as candies. He was, however, caught at the MMIA in Lagos.”
Augustine when arrested said he was a supermarket operator in Brazil
"I own a supermarket in Brazil where I have lived since 2006. I bought the cocaine and concealed it as candies. It was unfortunate that the trick was discovered." he said
NDLEA said the man will be charged to court soon.

#‪BringBackOurGirls‬ protest is still very much alive. The protesters in Abuja marching to the Presidential Villa on Thursday were blocked by a contingent of policemen before they could enter the area around the villa.
To avoid a backlash from the citizens, President Goodluck Jonathan quickly arrange for them to be received at the Federal Secretariat by a presidential delegation led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bala Mohammed.
Others on the delegation are Minister of State for FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide; Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Zainab Maina' Minister of Environment; Special aides to the President on Public Affairs and Media, Doyin Okupe and Reuben Abati, and many others.

HIP HIP HIP Hurray. After touring all the countries in Africa with our aim of profiling the four biggest UKWU’s (N.B while referring to this kind of ukwu’s (Hips) you have to use CAPITAL letters. I don’t need to tell you why) in the continent. I must confess to you, this research is very technical and comes with its own hazard. Along the line, we had profiled some ferocious and boisterous (No vex, I just discovered the meaning and I just have to use it even if it does not fit) UKWU only to find out they were either filled with saw dust or injected with palm oil. SEE THEM, shior.
 

We had to use our enhanced and updated UKWU detector and below is our top four.

1. Maltida Hipsy

When she was given birth to and called Matilda Hipsy, its not clear if the parents foresaw that her hips would become probably the largest in Africa. Or could it be that wasn’t her original name? She changed it to Hipsy because of her talented curvy hips?

She will always be remembered for causing the longest hold up in Ghana, and has been cautioned many times by the Ghanaian road safety commission. See pics below;


2. Lily Corazon

While we were still drooling over Maltida, we stumbled on Corazon. She has been on everyone’s lips after her photos went viral on social media. Corazon Kwamboka is the newest Kenyan socialite in town heavily endowed and does not shy to make suggestive poses. She is a lawyer, having graduated last year from the University of Nairobi. If I ever got into trouble, she will be my Lawyer.


3. Peace Hyde

Yea, next on our list is Peace Hyde, an example of hotties that are categorised as FULL OPTION, 4 X 4 or Four Wheel Drive. Do I need to tell you why?.

Peace Hyde started acting at the age of 11 but made her real debut in Ghana some few years ago on the hit TV series Adam’s Apple’s. She already has two MNET movies under her belt, namely Protégé and the Prodigal Son with regular guest appearances on the GH ONE talk show ‘Tales From the Powder Room’ holding her own opposite host Naa Ashorkor. She is also the host of Black Avenue Work’s first ever entertainment show.

4. Tolu Toolz Oniru.

We cannot end this list without profiling the one and only Toolz, UKWU 01 of Naija. Toolz was quoted in an interview back in 2012;

My body is very womanly. My mom has this figure so I got it from her. I work out and tend to lose weight on my upper body. I have always had killer hips and when I was growing up, I did my best to hide them. Back then, the vogue was to be slim with no curves. When I was in the UK, and everyone was going skimpy during summer, I would hide my curves in baggy T-shirts’, she said.

Meaning she was born with it.

According to a report by Channels TV, the Nigerian army has announced the recruitment of volunteer soldiers that will serve in the search for the missing Chibok girls as well as help in the fight against Boko Haram insurgence. In a press briefing today, the Director of Public Affairs said the recruitment exercise will end on June 21st and is open to only able bodied persons.

Lagos – A 54-year-old radio journalist, Pius-Junior Opute ,(a.k. a .OPJ), who was allegedly caught peeing in a drainage and resisting arrest, on Tuesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused, who lives at 41, Adeba St., Lakowe, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of urinating in a drainage and resisting arrest.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighodalo, told the court that the offences were committed on May 12 at about 8.00 p.m. at Marwa Bus Stop, Lekki.

Ighodalo said that OPJ, a staff member of Wazobia 95.1 FM, was caught urinating at
Marwa Bus Stop, Lekki.

Opute resisted arrest and obstructed a free flow of traffic around the Lekki Toll Plaza, he added.

Ighodalo said the offences contravened Sections 117 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 and Chapter E5, (9e) of the Environmental Sanitation Law of Lagos State ,2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olaitan Ajayi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to June 18 for further hearing.(NAN)

The President has released a press statement condemning the bomb blast that occurred this afternoon at Terminus market in Jos. Find the statement signed by his spokesperson, Reuben Abati, below


President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan strongly condemns the bomb blasts in Jos, Plateau state, today, describing the perpetrators of this tragic assault on human freedom as cruel and evil.  He has also directed all relevant agencies to mobilise support and relief efforts in aid of the victims. The President extends his heartfelt sympathies to the affected families and persons.

President Jonathan assures all Nigerians that government remains fully committed to winning the war against terror, and this administration will not be cowed by the atrocities of enemies of human progress and civilization. Continue...

President Jonathan has also expressed Nigeria’s deepest appreciation to the international community on the success of the recent Summit in Paris on the security situation in Nigeria hosted by the President of France, H.E. Francois Hollande.



He reaffirms Nigeria’s commitment to the implementation of the resolutions reached by the Summit, in addition to existing measures already being taken by the administration to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of lives.



President Jonathan states that the Federal Government of Nigeria is prepared to strengthen existing mechanisms to ensure the immediate implementation of the resolutions of The Summit, among which are:



That every necessary measure should be taken to find the school girls abducted by Boko Haramterrorists from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State on 14th April 2014;
 
That Nigeria and other countries in the sub-region will continue to co-operate and co-ordinate efforts to combat the Boko Haram menace.

That the Heads of State have agreed that each country will contribute one battalion of troops to the international force set up to patrol the border areas, in line with the Resolution of the Lake Chad Basin Commission. France, United States of America and the United Kingdom will extend technical assistance to achieve this objective;

 
That the countries will come together to put in place an effective border management regime;
 
That no effort will be spared to stop the proliferation of small arms and light weapons and the supply of arms and equipment made available to terrorists.
 
President Jonathan considers these measures very useful aspects of the concerted international effort to combat terrorism and put an end to the Boko Haram menace. In addition, the President, in Abuja, today, directed relevant government agencies to ensure enhanced implementation of the following programmes in the areas affected by Boko Haram atrocities:
 
(i)      Emergency relief assistance:  The intensification of on-going relief assistance programmes by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)) in partnership with donor agencies.  The programme will ensure rapid deployment of relief assistance to the affected local government areas and communities.  This will include provision of food supplies, medical supplies, basic relief commodities, and conditional cash transfer programmes for affected households;
 
(ii)     Rapid needs assessment:  To support additional intervention programmes in the region, the President has also directed that on-going rapid needs assessment by government agencies should be accelerated to identify affected communities and households and assess the extent of damage to public and private infrastructure, amongst others.
 
(iii)    Safety of schools: President Jonathan has also reiterated Nigeria’s determination to ensure the safety and security of schools in Borno and other parts of the country and also provide counselling services to any affected students to enable them return to school and continue with their academic work.

Furthermore, the Federal Government of Nigeria will rebuild the Chibok School and fortify security in schools. In collaboration with the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Education, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the private sector, the government will launch the “Safe Schools Initiative” which will address security issues; re-build the destroyed schools; and provide equipment and materials.

US actor Michael Jace has been arrested for shooting his wife dead at their South Los Angeles home. According to reports, the actor, best known for his role on The Shield as Julien Lowe, a gay police officer struggling with his segxwal identity, called 911 late last night Monday May 19th and confessed to shooting his wife of nine years.

When police got to their home at Brynhurst Avenue in Hyde Park, they were met by Michael Jace, 51, and discovered April Jace, 40, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, NBC reports.

April Jace was declared dead by paramedics at the scene. The couple's two children, both boys under the age of 10, were in the home at the time of the shooting but LA police said it is unclear whether the boys witnessed the shooting and still do not know why the actor shot his wife dead. We are sure you did not know that Nollywood star actress, Ini Edo, has a twin sister who looks so much like her, you will actually mistake one for the other.

But, hey, wait a minute, the twin sister is actually from another parents and another state, with another name.
While Ini Edo is from Onna Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria, her twin sister is called Esther Urrah, a Benue State University graduate from Oturkpo, in that state.

The young lady who is a split image of Ini Edo, said she was not aware of the striking resemblance with her idol until some friends pointed it out to her.

Her life ambition now is to meet the super actress and if possible, play a movie role beside her.
