Here's a statement from the Nigeria Police Force:
The Police High Command wishes to inform the general public that the Force has not issued any order banning peaceful assemblies/protests anywhere in Nigeria. 
It notes however that against the backdrop of current security challenges in the country, coupled with a recent intelligence report of a likely infiltration and hijack of otherwise innocuous and peaceful protests by some criminal elements having links with insurgents, the Police only issued advisory notice, enjoining citizens to apply caution in the said rallies, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory and its environs. 
Reminding citizens of the earlier position of the Force on peaceful rallies, which the Police High Command regards as the constitutional and democratic rights of Nigerians, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, M D. Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, psc, stresses the need for the organizers of such rallies to ensure that they seek proper advice and guidance from the Police before engaging in any such exercise so as to avoid any unpleasant circumstances. The IGP calls on the general public to see the present position of the Force as a necessary sacrifice for the peace our nation needs, as security is a collective responsibility.
Consequently, citizens are strongly advised to reconsider their positions on the issues of rallies and protests in FCT until the existing threats are appropriately neutralized and removed from our midst by relevant security agencies.
Meanwhile, the IGP reassures citizens of the commitment of the Force to the protection of lives and property and advancing the course of democracy in Nigeria.

The love of money is the root of all evil! A member of the House of Reps representing Bauchi Constituency, Hon. Aliyu Gebi has been arrested by the EFCC over issues relating to “the love of money”. The lawmaker who was invited for questioning was immediate detained as he arrived EFCC office in Abuja.

Hon. Gebi is facing multiple cases of fraud to the tune of N173million.

According to reports, Hon. Gebi obtained N60 million as loan from one Chinedu Iloabachie ostensibly to pursue his political aspirations with a promise to return the money to his benefactor as soon as he was elected a lawmaker. After his election, the lawmaker failed to fulfil his promise to refund the money. Six different cheques he issued to Iloabachie were returned unpaid, owing to insufficient fund in his account.

The same story with Efab, a property developer who borrowed him N47million to further his political ambition. All the cheques issued by Gebi as payment for the loan were returned unpaid.

Gebi, also allegedly obtained N16 million from Senator Ahmed Zanah under the pretext of helping him to buy the foreign exchange equivalent from the Central Bank of Nigeria at official rate. He neither bought the forex nor refund the money to the senator.



The House of Reps member equally converted a sum of N50million obtained from one Aliyu Habeeb to own use. Habeeb allegedly paid the money as deposit for a house he wanted to buy from Gebi. He neither got the house nor has the lawmaker agreed to refund his deposit.
He allegedly obtained the amount from the four different wealthy individuals with false pretenses.


Consequently, he was arraigned before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, on a 13-count charge of issuing dud cheques worth over 125 million Naira to one Usman Mustapha.

The charge reads: “That you, Hon. Aliyu Gebi, being the owner and sole signatory of Craft Technology Ltd and Craft Technology Ltd on or about the 12/01/2012 at Abuja Judicial Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory did obtain credit by issuing a UBA Plc cheque No. 00091852 in the sum of N10,000.000.00 (Ten Million naira) only in favour of Musty Petroleum Ltd. which when presented within three months was dishonored on the ground that there was insufficient fund in the account and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 1 (b) (I) of the dishonored cheque (offences) Act, 2004 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.”

Representative Gebi pleaded not guilty to all the charges. His defense counsel then pleaded with the court to admit the accused person to bail as he was already on EFCC administrative bail. He further told the court that apart from the fact that the offence was bailable, the accused person presented himself to the Commission for interrogation. The EFCC counsel did not oppose the application.

Justice Abba Mohammed granted the accused person bail on self-recognition and ordered that he deposit his international passport with the EFCC and to report to the Commission whenever he is needed.

Commercial s*x workers in Bauchi State, northern Nigeria have cried out over low patronage from their clients.
Vanguard reports that prostitutes in the northern state blamed the decline in patronage on insecurity in neighbouring states of Plateau, Borno, Yobe  and Adamawa.
It was also gathered that most of the owners of hot spots and brothels around some major streets within the metropolis have also complained about low patronage from clients who usually engage the services of the s*x workers.
Some of the most affected spots are Ogbonna Hotel, Focus Brothel, Time out by junction, Peoples Club and Benco Hotels.

Commenting on the situation, two s*x workers at Bayan Gari, a suburb in Bauchi metropolis, said the recent bomb explosions in Jos caused most of their rich clients not to be coming to the state again.
It could be recalled that some Nigerian s*x workers had demanded for legal recognition of their trade as a job during the celebration of 14th International s*x Worker’s Rights Day in March.
Some of the prostitutes told journalists that the time had come for the Nigerian government to grant them their due recognition and further recognise that as human beings trying to keep body and soul going, the ‘profession’ should be considered legitimate enough to put a stop to its discrimination and stigmatisation.
 
Though many of prostitutes did not realise that such day was set aside for them until they were told, they also called on rights activists to assist them gain the desired recognition.
“See, many people, including you, do not see us as human beings. In your mind, we are a condemned set of Nigerians who sell their bodies so cheaply, but that thought is not right,” Jane, a lady from eastern Nigeria who operates at a brothel close to the railwayline in Agege, told newsmen.

It ought to be the most tranquil of sights – the face of an unborn child in  the womb. But the tiny hand pulled up to the chin reveals that, upsettingly, this baby appears to be under stress. The remarkable image was taken as part of a study showing unborn children touch their faces more often if their mother has been anxious, helpless or under pressure.
Researchers believe they are picking up on her anxieties – and then trying to soothe them away with the power of touch. As adults, we do this by holding our head in our hands. But while we use both hands, babies of stressed-out mothers preferred the touch of just one.
Although previous studies have found babies pick up on stress in the womb, this is believed to be the first to offer  photographic evidence.

Researcher Nadja Reissland from Durham University gave 15 mothers-to-be 4D ultrasound scans four times during their pregnancy.
 
Rather than the grainy, ‘flat’ images produced by the 2D scanners usually used by the NHS, a 4D machine stitches together pictures taken from a variety of angles to create clear three-dimensional pictures.

These are then recorded on video – the fourth dimension.

The mothers-to-be were quizzed on their  levels of stress in the month leading up to each scan and the videos were analysed to see how often the unborn babies touched their faces. In total, the eight girls and seven boys did so 342 times.

The more anxious the woman was, the more the unborn child mopped its brow, the journal Laterality: Asymmetries of Body, Brain and Cognition reported. Dr Reissland believes that the babies were picking up on an increase in the stress hormone cortisol being  produced by their mothers.

The study also found those whose mothers had been under pressure were more likely to use their left hand when touching their face.

This is significant because attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, depression and schizophrenia all more common in people who are left-handed.
Dr Reissland said: ‘Most mothers are fine and needn’t worry but some will need to think about reducing their stress.’

Persons suspected to be ritualists, yesterday, attacked a 12 year old boy in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State and plucked out his eyes.

It was gathered that the victim, Abdu Garba, a native of Miga Local Government of Jigawa state is a student to one Islamic teacher, Mal Haruna Abdullahi of Sakwa town in Zaki local government.

It was learnt the ritualists followed the movements of Abdu and when they got to isolated area, they abducted him and took him to an unknown destination where they plucked out his eyes.

Confirming the incident, the state Police spokesman, Deputy Superintendent of Police Haruna Mohammed said one Abdu Garba, a native of Miga local government in Jigawa state was attacked and his eyes removed by unknown persons in Zaki local government area of the state.

He said the unknown assailants Suspected to ritualists accosted the victim to a solidarity area and removed his eyes.

According to him, ” after residents of the area informed the police in the local government about the incident, police detectives went to the scene and rushed the victim to Federal Medical Centre Azare for treatment”

The PPRO added that Investigation had commenced and efforts is been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

A heartbreaking new video of the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Islamic extremists shows them bravely speaking out about their ordeal for the first time.
The footage, not released publicly but seen by The Mail on Sunday, was taken in a jungle clearing a month after their abduction.
More than 250 girls were taken in a raid on their school in Chibok, in Nigeria’s north-east, on April 14 by Boko Haram terrorists, who want to impose Sharia law on the country.
The girls in the video look healthy, but it is understood that fraught negotiations are under way to broker the release several pupils who have fallen ill, including one with a broken wrist.
In the video, eight girls, dressed in their home-made school uniforms of pale blue gingham, plead for release as they stand courageously in front of the camera. They are clearly scared, upset and trying to be brave.
Each of them walks in turn to a spot in front of a white sheet fixed to a crude frame between the trees.
Four of them can be heard clearly, in their Hausa language, stating that they were taken by force and that they are hungry. A tall girl, aged about 18, says tearfully: “My family will be so worried.”
Another, speaking softly, says: “I never expected to suffer like this in my life.” A third says: “They have taken us away by force.’ The fourth girl complains: ‘We are not getting enough food.”
The video, taken by an intermediary on May 19, has been shown to President Goodluck Jonathan. It was intended to serve as “proof of life” for the girls and to encourage the President to accede to the terrorists’ demands.
Two earlier videos showed the girls seated on the ground, dressed in hijabs, reciting the Koran, and Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau declaring he would sell them into slavery, or marry them off to their kidnappers, if members of his sect were not released from prison.
Pressure from the international community and criticism of the President’s slow response to the kidnapping have led to a series of contradictory pronouncements from his government. Ministers have declared they will not negotiate with Boko Haram, or consider the release of prisoners, while official spokesmen have said “the window is always open for dialogue”.
At a Paris peace summit, several West African countries neighbouring Nigeria vowed to join in “outright war” against the terrorists. Britain, France and America pledged their support and have sent teams of military experts and advisers to the region. Intelligence sources have told the MoS of several rescue attempts, one involving the release of suspected low-level Boko Haram members detained without charges or trial.
Two attempts were aborted at the last minute when the terrorists took fright while delivering a group of girls to a safe location.
Last week Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Alex Badeh said the government knew the location of the girls and claimed that police and military had been ‘following them’ since the abduction. He refused to divulge details, saying it would put the girls in further danger.
Sources said Mr Badeh’s announcement may have been the result of government officials seeing the new, unpublished video. They may have been able to persuade Boko Haram’s intermediary to provide details of the location.
It is believed the hostages have been split into at least four groups.
Scathing condemnations of Nigeria’s failure to address the menace of Boko Haram, ever since a proposed peace deal failed last August – leading to the extension of a state of emergency in three northern states – continued worldwide last week.
US Senator Robert Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Nigeria had been ‘tragically and unacceptably slow’ to begin a search.
Others say the clock really being watched by Nigerian politicians is not the six weeks and counting since the kidnap but the 11 months to the country’s elections.

Spiritual leader and founder of  ‘The Holy Michael Church of The Lord (Aladura) Cherubim and Seraphim along the Ikotun/Ejigbo area of the state, Pa Samuel Olawale has revealed his reason for sleeping in a coffin and grave.

The Pastor who was a long time a police officer, is in his 80s who said he has been in evangelisation since 1957 when God called him said:

“Yes, it is true that I have a coffin covered with a black cloth in the church, it is in a big van. Not only this, I have a big hole dug by the altar. You can go and see it, take the picture. But for the grave or the hole, it is by the altar. And next time, I will open it for you while I am there. The two strange objects are pregnant with meanings. I have reasons why I am keeping them there.” he told The Nation
 
Pa Samuel Olawale (a.k.a Kogberegbe) who also goes out to preach with coffin gave his reason saying:

“Yes it is true that I am carrying the coffin about while preaching and what I am trying to point out is that no matter how wealthy you are you will not leave this world with these money, it all ends here. You will not go into the grave with your wealth or with money, be you a civil servant who stole money, be you an armed robber, be you a landlord or a caretaker, your money and wealth ends here the moment you are dead.”

“Any time I go out, I would at times sleep in the coffin, telling everybody that that is how we will end. Yes, we should remember this. If you are buried with expensive coffin, clothes and jewelleries, all will be stolen from you in the night and your carcass will be left. To me, life has no meaning until we come to God. Things are going wrong in this world and we should mend our ways.”

“Yes, I even sleep there (in the coffin and the grave) at times too, to let us know that we will all end up in the grave!” he said. Smh.

On what it is in the grave, the prophet said, “Nothing , it is empty , nothing.”

Cameroon’s armed forces liquidated at least 40 Boko Haram fighters in the North-western part of the country during the weekend. This has been confirmed by a government radio on June 1, 2014, Sunday.

The gunfight, which led to killing of suspected insurgents, took place in Kouserri town, close to the border with Nigeria and Chad.

This development came shortly after freeing a Canadian nun and two Italian priests from suspected Boko Haram abductors, May 31-July 1, 2014.

The information about a successful anti-terrorist operation emerged on the next day after Nigeria criticised Cameroon for its insufficient efforts in fighting Boko Haram.

The Federal Government considers Cameroon as not so cooperative, in comparison to Niger and Chad. The declarations were made on May 31, 2014, Saturday, despite Cameroon’s decision to send 1,000 troops to fight insurgents.

According to agreements reached at a security summit in Paris, Nigeria and its neighbours declared war on Boko Haram sect, agreed to intensify efforts aimed at fighting against insurgency and rescuing over 200 kidnapped GGSS Chibok girls.

Some of the actions would include sharing intelligence data, improving border patrols and coordination of actions.

Niger approved crossing its borders by Nigerian military in case it pursuit the militants. Similar agreement has been reached with Chad, while the situation with Cameroon remaines more complicated.

The foreigners have regained freedom under undisclosed circumstances and were flown out of Maroua airport aboard a military plane in the morning of June 1, 2014, Sunday.

14 year old killer child-bride Wasila Umar who is currently facing murder charges at a Juvenile Court in Kano state for killing her 35 year old husband and 3 others, has cried out to the court to release her and let her go home as she misses the love and attention she gets from her family members. While speaking with a Vanguard reporter before her hearing at the Kano state Juvenile court recently, Wasila said she been to three detention camps since she killed her husband and has not seen her mum.

"I miss my mum who has not been allowed to visit me in a strange land. What, however, keeps me going is the fact that my family are with me at this critical point in my life, and I am highly comforted by their prayers. My dad and aunt visited me a few days ago and conveyed my mother’s message but the vacuum created by  her absence can not be filled by anyone. I have been receiving help from the people I did not know from Adam, I mean women who have shown concern, and cater for my needs at the remand home where I have been detained by the authorities. I know for sure this trial will come to an end one day and I would reconcile with my family" she said
Meanwhile the family of Umar, Wasila's late husband insist that justice must be served as what she did was wicked. Sani Garba (pictured above right) who is late Umar's father says he has not forgiven the young girl as he's still nursing the wound her actions caused him
"I am talking to you with a heavy heart, because I am still nursing a fatal injury handed over to me by my daughter-in-law. Do you know that I lost three children to her action and you are asking whether I have forgiven her? The act was too painful to be forgiven  and I don’t think I can forgive her. We understand the authorities have taken over the case, but whether they choose to stand by the truth remains their headache for I have since gone to my God who is sufficient for me” he said

Speaking with Wasila’s father, Tasiu Muhammad (pictured above), he said it was a trying time for his daughter but he cannot abandon her now...
"What happened left a sour taste in our mouths but we don’t have to abandon the little girl. That is why I identify with her at this moment of trial. In such situation, we only look onto Allah for divine intervention. What has happened came with a fatal consequence on my family, and I have visited my in-laws in the company of my kinsmen to seek for their forgiveness on behalf of my daughter” her father said
Meanwhile the  Federation of Women Lawyers in Nigeria have since taken up her case and is working to see she gets the best legal representation. Prior to when they came in, Wasila was to be tried at a Magistrate court but with their intervention, the case was moved to a Juvenile court where it is being heard.

Henry Chukwuma Okoroji, a Nigerian match fixer has been indicted in a match fixing scam after he was caught on camera telling an undercover UK Sun Newspaper reporter, Mahzher Mahmood, he could arrange a yellow card during the World Cup games for more than 41,000pounds and a penalty for 81,000pounds.

Daily Mail reports that Okoroji spoke with the reporter in company of his associate, Joe, in a hotel room in Milan, Italy. He was recorded saying he could facilitate different outcomes on the football field, including a red card, depending on the amount the reporter was willing to pay. He was reported to have said that he was working with two other Nigerian players as well as a senior official of the Nigerian Football Federation in the match-fixing scam, who he said could help influence the Nigerian squad in the world cup. A woman in China known only as Ms Wu was beaten to death with an iron at McDonald's restaurant in China on Wednesday night May 28th while customers watched just because she refused to give her attacker her number. The alleged victim was having dinner at the fast-food outlet when an unknown man, identified as Mr Zhang, asked for her phone number.
Once she refused, that's when a very tragic and violent conflict unfolded over a brief 20-minute period.
Upon the rejection, Mr Zhang used an iron bar to beat Miss Wu to death right in the middle of the eatery.

Witnesses told thenanfang.com that Mr Zhang was also having dinner with his friends at Zhaoyuan, in China's Shandong province, when an argument broke out with Miss Wu followed by a physical dispute.


The website reported Mr Zhang's friends joined in and also beat Miss Wu, kicking her in the head and she was lying on the ground in a pool of her own blood.
They then proceeded to use an iron-handled mop to strike her in the head and continued to do so until the handle broke.

Graphic images and a three-minute clip of the beating is circulating online.

Another news site, ecns.cn, reported that Mr Zhang was encouraged by a woman shouting 'beat her to death'.

The accused six were arrested on Saturday and police believe they are part of a religious cult.
Zhaoyuan police said on their microblog that the members, four of which are from the same family, belonged to a group calling itself the 'All-powerful spirit' or 'Almighty God' and had been collecting numbers in an effort to recruit new people.

Like hail, curses have been raining on Samuel Uba, a 65-year-old man in Kalabari Beach, Oguta Local Government Area, Imo State, who is alleged to have committed an abominable act by repeatedly molesting his 17-year-old daughter, Hannah Uba and impregnating her in the process.

The poor teenager is now saddled with a five-month-old pregnancy.
It was the timely intervention of the police that prevented irate youths in the community from lynching him when they got wind of the abominable act after the violated and traumatized teenager finally summoned the courage to report the matter to a neighbour, who in turn informed the leader of the youths.

Recounting the horrific experience she passed through, Hannah, a JSS 3 student of St. Michael Secondary School Obodo Oguta said: “I have been living in bondage. My father started having sex with me after his two wives died. He would always beat me before having sex with me. I told him to remarry but he refused. Every night he would come and rape me. Any day I refused to have sex with my father, he would beat me and then rape me. He always came when the other children were asleep.

It was the fear of my father’s beating that made me not to tell anybody. But one day, I decided to confess to my neighbour. It was the neighbour who discovered that I was five months pregnant. Immediately the news spread, youths in the community gathered to kill my father, but policemen rescued him.”
Pastor Donatus Olisa, General Overseer of Christian Pentecostal Church, where the suspect and his daughter worship said he learnt about Hannah’s predicament from other members of the church.

Shocked to the marrow, Pastor Olisa told Sunday Sun: “The father of the girl, Samuel and his daughter attend my church every Sunday. Some people told me that Papa Samuel was sleeping with his daughter; they said the pregnancy that resulted from it had reached five months. I was deeply shocked. The following morning I went to the house of Papa Samuel and he confessed that he impregnated the daughter. He acknowledged molesting her often.”

Hannah’s trouble started in 2012 after her father’s second wife died. As the old man, who hails from Ibiasoegbe in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, told Sunday Sun in an interview, he used to have sex with his second wife even when she was sick and on admission at the hospital.

He said: “I had two wives. My first wife died in 2011 while the second died in 2012. I have nine children, two girls and seven boys. When my second wife was on admission in the hospital, I used to have sex with her right in the hospital. But when she died I started sleeping with my daughter when the other children were asleep. I began having sex with my daughter because I didn’t want to be sleeping around with other women.”

Ever since the story broke, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdulmajid Ali disclosed that the Command has made tireless efforts to conduct proper investigation into the case, which he described as an abomination. He further disclosed that youths in the area were so incensed that they wanted to lynch the alleged culprit, but noted that the quick intervention of the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Oguta Police Division, Supol Ikembuchukwu Abugu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and his men saved the day and rescued the suspect from the hands of the youths. Samuel was immediately taken into custody on April 30, 2014, pending the conclusion of investigations.

Although Samuel has appealed to his community for forgiveness, blaming the devil for the abominable act, the Imo State Police Commissioner, however, assured that he would be charged to court to answer appropriate charges for rape and impregnating a legal minor.
