17-year-old Nigerian-American High School Student, Omotayo Adeoye who was reported to have gone missing after her suicide attempt is dead.
Omotayo, a student of Harlem High School for Math, Science and Engineering was said to have committed suicide by jumping off George Washington Bridge on May 29, 2014 after being humiliated in front of her classmates for cheating on a test.
She reportedly wrote a suicide note right on her German-language exam that read, “I just want to go away forever on the bottom of the river.”
Adeoye subsequently asked to use the bathroom but never returned. She left school and walked to the edge of the Hudson River and jumped in and drowned herself.

A driver, Ian Glover, has been reported to have crashed his lorry into a car and killed a 20-year-old woman.
Reports say the accused was driving while watching pornographic photos on his phone when the accident occurred in the UK.
The UK Mirror reports that the accident happened last July when the Glovers were driving to Aberystwyth for a day trip from their home in Stafford.
Mr Glover had been flicking through images of women on explicit dating sites when he ploughed into a car that was parked into the hard shoulder.
It was gathered that the accident caused a Vauxhall carrying Laura Thomas and her fiance, Lewis Pagett, both 20, to fly over the safety barrier.
Unfortunately, Laura, who wanted to become a teacher for disabled children, was declared dead on the way to hospital by emergency crews at the scene of the accident.

Glover, 44, was jailed at Shrewsbury Crown Court for five years after admitting dangerous driving.
Speaking after the court case, Lewis, who was left with a head injury and fractured vertebrae following the crash, said: “Laura and I were looking forward to planning our wedding together – instead, I ended up planning her funeral.
Laura’s mum, Lisa, 45, said: “I makes me feel sick that Groves killed my girl while looking at porn.
“He assessed sites such as ‘Shagaholic.co.uk’ and ‘Sexuk.com’ around 11 times in a less than a mile radius – why would someone be looking at such sites while driving?
Glover told police that he could not remember what had happened before the crash but tests on three mobile phones found in his lorry revealed he was looking at the dating sites.
Glover was driving the 44-tonne Mercedes lorry at between 50mph and 56 mph.

Mr Paul Rogers, defending, said Glover was ‘deeply ashamed’ that he had viewed the websites while driving.
Judge Robin Onions, sentencing, said: “You were on these sites at the point of impact.
“For many miles you were not paying proper attention.
“This was utterly avoidable.”
Investigation revealed that the late Laura’s family have not only set up a charity in her name but are now raising awareness for the dangers of driving while using a mobile phones.

Nobody loves to suffer alone and especially when you are not the only one guilty of the offence you are being punished for. That is the dilemma of one of Boko Haram's kingpin, Kabiru Sokoto, who is in prison.

According to reports, Kabiru Sokoto has said he is ready to name the sponsors of the extremist terrorist group, Boko Haram. A top security officers at Kuje Prisons, Abuja, where he is serving a life sentence, revealed to Nigerian Pilot.
The prison official said, “Kabiru Sokoto has been saying aloud and telling anyone who cares to listen in prison that he is ready to name the sponsors of Boko Haram. He also wants the government [of President Jonathan] to consider his plea for pardon.”

Kabiru Sokoto who stated this in a letter written by his lawyer, Sheriff Okoh to President Goodluck Jonathan added that he was wrongly convicted appealing to the President to grant him pardon, claiming that he was innocent of the offences for which he was convicted.

The letter reads in part:
“Your Excellency Sir, an innocent man was convicted by the court on the date aforementioned. It is for this singular reason that we are applying to you for Presidential pardon in the circumstance pursuant to your exclusive legitimate constitutional powers as enshrined in your golden conscience and under Section 175(a) and (b) of the Constitution.

“Your Excellency sir, we are applying for respite and pardon for the convicted felon Kabiru Umar (alias Kabiru Sokoto) because we have absolute faith in your compassion and highest sense of fairness, equity and justice first as a God-fearing man and next, as the leader of the most compassionate nation on earth.

“Your Excellency, we vow to reach out beyond the imagination and work with you in resolving the Boko Haram imbroglio, with the firm belief that no quarrel of brotherhood is eternal. We shall undertake this national task for the pleasure of God Almighty, believing in His divine will for our peaceful, united, symbiotic and mutual coexistence as brothers and sisters under a fair and just leader.”

These senseless killings are still going on with impunity. Members of the deadly Boko Haram stormed a church in Attagara, Gwoza LGA of Borno State and killed about 12 worshippers during Sunday service.

A resident of the village, Matthew Adamu, gave details of the sad incident thus:
“The attack occurred at 9.30am at the EYN Church while the service was going on. Our church has some men who provide security, especially when service is going on. As we were holding our service on Sunday, we started hearing gunshots and everybody fled. Some jumped through the windows and ran into the bushes. Some who live close to the church managed to run to their homes.
“Men in the community however mobilised immediately and pursued the Boko Haram men. They came with motorcycles and a car but our people killed many of them and arrested three.
"I later learnt that nine people in the church were shot dead."

The attack which occurred barely 48 hours after the murder of the Emir of Gwoza , Alhaji Idrissa Timta, by the sect in a highway ambush, brought the church service to an abrupt end.

It was gathered that the insurgents arrived at EYN Church and opened fire on worshippers at about 9.30am.

The killing of the worshippers led to a reprisal by the villagers and their neighbours from Agapalwa resulting in the death of 37 Boko Haram terrorists.

The Chairman of the Christians Association of Nigeria in the state, Rev. Titus Pona, confirmed the incident on the telephone to journalists.

He said, "I was told by my members that 37 suspected Boko Haram members were killed after an attack on Attangara and Agapalwa villages. Most of the villages attacked in Gwoza , Bayan Dutse area since a week ago have over 80 per cent Christian population".

Twenty six female same gender love makers were arrested on charges of illegal indecent activity after they were allegedly caught red handed having engaging in the act at a pub, Nigerian police said.


Delta State Police said that they raided the pub located on Awai Road, after receiving intelligence about the criminal activity.

A spokesperson for the police confirmed that the 26 suspects were arrested after police officers observed them making love with one another. All of the suspects were not wearing any clothes.

During questioning, the suspects confessed to their crimes, and said that it was their way of earning a living. According to the police investigation, the facility was made to look like an ordinary pub in order to avoid suspicion by the public.

Security guards were placed at the entrance to collect fees of those willing to be exposed to the illicit same gender activities. Teen girls from neighboring communities and states visited the pub to smoke, drink and engage in indecent acts.

The public expressed their outrage after learning about the arrests. “The Nigeria Police Force should use their resources for the safety of our community, to hunt down kidnappers and robbers rather than chasing minority gays and lesbians on the streets,” Shina said.

At least four chil­dren were con­firmed dead while about 200 houses were destroyed as a result of heavy rains in Gusau, Zamfara State capital.

The havoc, which oc­curred between Saturday and early hours of yesterday also destroyed a mosque at Barakallahu area of Gusau metropolis.

One of the victims, Mal­lam Ibrahim, told Daily Sun that the incident claimed the lives of four children who could not help themselves out of their houses as a result of collapsed buildings.

According to him, prop­erty worth millions of naira were also lost to the rain.

According to the Ward head, Malam Abubakar Bawa, three of the four chil­dren belonged to a policeman identified as Sergeant Ibra­him Ruwandoruwa. They included a six-year-old girl, while others were between three and four years old.

Malam Bawa added that, another child died while try­ing to flee the area.

“We thought the child was at an Islamic school nearby but left during the windstorm before we later discovered his body under a wreckage.”

A pastor, Matthew Olumide, has  prayed a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, to dissolve his marriage with his wife, Oluyemisi, over her alleged attempt to destroy his manhood.

Matthew told the court that his wife had overwhelmed his life with miseries.

“Oluyemisi exposed me to public ridicule when she tore my clothes, including my underwear and compressed my testicles.

“I spent several weeks in the hospital and when I returned, she warned me not to receive visitors if I  cherished my life.

“She falsely accused me of having extra-marital affair with my church secretary,’’ he said.

Olumide further  told the court that   his wife had destroyed his ministry following her domineering attitude. He stated that from more than 50 members, his congregation had dwindled to just a  few.


   
“She doesn’t  prepare  food for  me and the children  anymore.

“Rather than rest after evangelising, I now take up  the responsibility of  cooking and looking after the welfare of the children,” he added.

In her defence, Oluyemisi  told the court  her husband and his people were always beating her.

“He had married someone  before me, and they are still seeing each other.

“He even invites her to our  vigils. He  asked me not to work and yet, he doesn’t  take care of me,’’ she  said.

The court president, Mr Ezekiel Ogundipe, adjourned the case till June 9 and ordered that the couple bring along their relatives.

After searching for his body for many days, his body was finally found yesterday in the Delaware River around 5.45pm. Joe Hinkes, chief ranger of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, told said his body was found 5 miles downstream from where he was last seen Sunday afternoon

His death has been ruled accidental drowning. He drowned after jumping into the river without a life jacket while on a rafting trip near Lumberland, N.Y. with friends.

The situation of our girls kidnapped by the deadly Boko Haram sect is going from bad to worst as some of them in custody of the group have taken ill, according to a prominent Australian cleric, Dr. Stephen Davis.
Dr. Davis, a clergyman and hostage negotiator, according to the British newspaper, The Mail, was hired by the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, to broker the release of the girls.

In his words: “One of that small group of girls is ill and we had hoped we might convince the commander of the group holding her that she should be released so we could give her medical treatment.

“There are other girls who are not well and we have come close to having them released but their captors fear a trap in which they will be captured in the handover process.

“One girl has what I assume is a broken wrist as they demonstrate to me how she holds her hand. I have been told that others are sick and in need of medical attention.”

Dr. Davis, who was once the Canon Emeritus at Coventry Cathedral in London, has been in Nigeria working secretly on the release of the girls for almost a month now.

It added that he was asked by the President to come to Nigeria after previously brokering a truce between the Federal Government and the Niger Delta militants in 2004.

He was frequently blindfolded and held at gunpoint during his peace work in the Niger Delta.

In an email, Dr. Davis revealed he had had “ongoing contacts” with the groups involved in the kidnapping in the North-East for seven years.

He attributed his success in hostage negotiations in Nigeria to “a long process of building trust on both sides”.

He said, “This is painful for the parents and the nation. The well-being of the girls is constantly on our minds and we want to see their release as soon as possible.”

The secret negotiator ruled out the possibility of a rescue since the girls were not being held in one location.

He said, “There are several groups to deal with as the girls are held in several camps across the Nigerian border in Cameroon, Chad and Niger. This makes any thought of a rescue highly improbable. To attempt to rescue one group would only endanger the others.

“We must not endanger their lives further. The vast majority of the Chibok girls are not being held in Nigeria.”
