The morale of troops deployed in the troubled Borno State dropped to minimum, as several soldiers of the Nigerian Army have reportedly deserted as the result of massive Boko Haram retaliation attack on Biita and Izge.

According to several anonymous soldiers, who spoke with SaharaReporters, many of their colleagues laid down their weapons, put on civilian clothes and left the area.

The troops have launched a major offensive on Boko Haram terrorists in the night of June 7, 2014, Saturday, and killed over 50 of them. The DHQ has also confirmed that significant amount of weapons, ammunition and grenades were recovered and the insurgents were driven out of the area.

However, local military sources of SaharaReporters revealed that Boko Haram launched a full-scale retaliation attack in the morning of June 9, 2014, Monday. The attackers, numbering about 500, have returned to Biita and Izge with an overwhelming force, as their attack was supported by six armoured personnel carriers (APCs). The terrorists targeted army bases located in the area.

The unnamed military source further stated that the defenders were outgunned and forced to leave their positions in Biita.

At the same time, another source declared that both Izge and Biita towns had been completely deserted, which allowed the militants to get back all the weapons seized from them during the battles between Saturday and Sunday.

The soldiers lamented absence of adequate weaponry to tackle the attackers efficiently. This was one of the reasons why numerous soldiers have allegedly handed over their arms at the Army HQ in Michika, Adamawa State. About 100 soldiers, wearing civilian clothes, reportedly left via Shua-Mubi Road on June 10, 2014, Tuesday.

Some of the soldiers lamented that Boko Haram terrorists have more APCs than the Nigerian troops on the frontlines.

Another soldier wondered why the top Army Commanders use the capabilities of the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) so seldom. The jet fighters could have easily located and destroyed Boko Haram’s tanks and APCs. However, the insurgents use armoured vehicles openly in the daylight, without fear of being bombed.

It would be noted that NAF was really helpful in repelling a massive Boko Haram attack on Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, when timely intervention of a military jet saved many lives and significant number of buildings from destruction. At the same time, an innocent girl has been reportedly killed by an air bomb.

The Edo state House of Assembly has suspended its speaker Hon. Uyi Igbe and six other members on Tuesday, June,10 2014 at the State House of Assembly.

The members in company of suspended deputy speaker Festus Ebea , arrived in the complex in an unmarked bus and gained access into the chamber after a mobile policeman accompanying them assisted in destroying the lock.

According to Nation, the lawmakers were suspended in a sitting presided over by Ebea, which lasted about five minutes.

The gathering broke into a free for all fight when the Speaker arrived the chambers.

Policemen used teargas to disperse the thugs who were at the house of assembly.

Crisis have been brewing for some time now at the assembly as the deputy speaker and three other members where suspended last week.

You gain a lot of experience from people you grew up with, “Aunty Adugbo” and “Uncle Adugbo”. It was really fun for me.



You seem to have moved on after your marriage break-up, what really led to the break-up?
Obviously, life, goes on. Shit happens. If it is not working well, walk out of it. You don’t have to die on whatever it is. It is just one of those things.


What has kept you going after all the controversies?
My God and the advice of my parents. Though, they are late but their prayers and the way they groomed me to this level before they passed on has really kept me going.

How where you able to stand after the whole saga?

It is not easy but I just had to sit up and think about it, if you die in your agony what would be left for whoever you have behind. It is better to sit up. That is why they said, ‘when there is life, there is hope’. Sit up and think of the next step you have to take and think of how to be a better you and affecting people’s lives positively. 

Did you think it could happen?

Nobody would ever think of anything bad to themselves. Everything that happened, God knows it.

Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Monday morning recounted his ordeal and those of others with him in Kano on Sunday after the Sanusi Lamido Sanusi emerged as Emir of the powerful Kano emirate.

Governor Amaechi said they were practically locked up in a room at the airport. In his words:

    “The Kano governor called the airport commandant that we should at least be allowed to leave the building but the commandant refused, saying he had an order from above not to let us out. We had to force one of the doors open to get away.”

A Bosom feeding mother, simply identified as Mama Nkechi who had her bag snatched, yesterday, June 8 by two robbers on motorcycle in Okokomaiko area of Lagos State said the bag contained N200 and faeces.

Hours after being appointed the new Emir of Kano state, Lamido Sanusi narrowly escaped being arrested by security operatives at his personal residence in the state.

Premium Times reports that a source who pleaded anonymity for security reasons said Sanusi was sneaked out of his house on Sunday, June 9 by the Kano state Government, after they received intelligence report that the Federal Government was plotting to arrest the newly appointed Emir in order to stop him from being turbaned.

The source said Sanusi passed the night in Government House.

It is however not clear why the Federal government wanted to arrest Sanusi as the spokesperson of the Kano state command of the police, Magaji Majiya and spokesperson of the SSS, Marilyn Ogar could not be reached fro comment.

Following his suspension on February 20, as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by President Goodluck Jonathan while he was away in Niamey, Niger Republic, on official assignment, Sanusi has been at loggerheads with the Federal government.

President Jonathan had said he was suspended over allegations of financial recklessness by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRC.

Sanusi rejected the claims against him, saying that he was removed for revealing that Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had allegedly underremitted $20bn in oil revenue to the Federation Account. he then went on file a suit challenging his removal, through his counsel Kola Awodein (SAN).

After Sanusi was announced as the new Emir of Kano State following the death of the former Emir, Ado Bayero, some residents of the state took to the street in protest.
