The first time I heard of the Bride Price calculator was via instagram as girls put up their scores. Then twitter, and then of course, via the uproar. Those who thought it was fun, those who thought it was sexist, and those who were enraged that others were enraged.
1. So what’s in the calculator? Ratings based on cliches like education, skin colour, beauty and more.
2.  What could have been there? Well, they could have brought up questions like how many partners the girl has had.
3.  What should have been there? Marks for speaking a Nigerian language and err… for loving the groom.
 4.  Is it worth the uproar? Yes. And no. No because when it comes right down to it, the Bride Price calculator is ‘fun’. You go to the website with a couple of friends, pick the silliest answers, wait for the elders to consult and then get the result!
 5.  But Yes because, beneath the surface, it shows our prejudices. Apparently, not all accents should get the same deductions, and then there’s skin colour — dark is lower than light but don’t worry, there’s Lupita. As for career, oil and gas gets more points than say, ‘talk talk’. If only they knew…
6.  Cosmos’s take A Cosmopolitan magazine headline terms the calculator sexist and disgusting. I have taken a poll and no one finds that calculator disgusting. And as for Sexist? Cosmo is one to talk.
7. A non-Nigerian’s take A foreigner took the test and found it to be funny, and while not sexist, still a caricature of the system. Ironically, the test gives them really high scores!
8.  If the test does offend you, you can go sign the petition to take it down.
 9. As for me though, seeing as I am short, dark and a ‘talk talk’ specialist, you can imagine how high I scored. 10. After all is said and done, please remember

A Nigerian taxi driver in the United States of America, (USA), Mr. Domingo I. Ezirike, was last October 22 shot dead over a 75 cent dispute, police said.

The US police said it has charged a 20-year-old Rashad Terrell Slye of Southeast with first-degree murder while armed for the shooting of Ezirike of Prince Georges County.

Police officers discovered 40-year-old Mr. Domingo I. Ezirike in the driver’s seat of his cab shortly before 4 a.m., sitting in the grass in the 4300 block of Ponds Street Northeast near Anacostia Avenue. Emergency medical personnel found no signs of life.
The medical examiner later determined that Mr. Domingo I. Ezirike was killed with a gunshot wound to the body, according to police documents.

One of the detectives who found Mr. Domingo I. Ezirike, told homicide detectives that he had seen the man in his cab during a routine traffic stop less than half an hour before he was found shot, police documents state. He leaned into the cab to tell Mr. Domingo I. Eziriketo put on his seat belt, the detective said, and saw two passengers in the back seat.

Calls made from Slye’s cell phone led police to an address in the 1500 block of Anacostia Avenue. A witness there told police that when she got into the cab with Slye, the cabbie asked the two for $20 to drive them into D.C., which she gave him. She also remembered the police traffic stop.

At the final destination, she told police the driver asked for an additional $7.75. She gave him $5 and Slye $2, but the driver and Slye began arguing over the remaining 75 cents. She told police she got out of the cab and walked away, asking Slye to come with her, but he continued to argue with the cabbie. A witness at Ponds Street told police to have overheard a man in the cab saying loudly “Give me my $20 back,” then demanding to be led out of the cab. The witness told police a black man got out of the back seat with a silver handgun, telling the driver to get out of the car.


The driver got out and lay down on the ground, telling the gunman he didn’t have any money. The gunman, the witness said, went through the driver’s pockets, where he apparently found some money. The witness told police it seemed as if the suspect tried to shoot the driver once but the gun didnt fire.

The driver took off his pants to prove that he didn’t have any money with him. The suspect told the driver to get back into the cab. He then fired one shot and ran off toward Anacostia Avenue, the witness said.

Ezirike, still alive, was able to reverse the car toward Anacostia Avenue. His cell phone showed a 911 call shortly before 3:30 a.m. Through GPS, the taxi company was able to determine that Ezirike picked up his last customer at the Morgan Boulevard Metro station in Landover.

The number used to order the cab was also used to call someone in the 1500 block of Anacostia Avenue. Police searched that address under a warrant and found the cell phone and a blue jacket the witness at Ponds Street had described. Mr. Domingo I. Ezirike wallet was found behind that building.

A key Boko Haram member was arrested by youths in the capital city of Borno State, Maiduguri, on June 13, 2014, Friday, following a tip-off by a young man who was able to recognize the sect member.

The internally displaced person, who helped to bust the terrorist, fled Gwoza area of Borno State, where multiple communities were raided and dozens of people were killed in the past several weeks.
He was able to recognize the sect member near the Timber Shed along Baga Road, Maiduguri, because this man was the one who had gunned down the brother of the young man.

A local vigilante member told Weekly Trust that the suspect with a plastic bag in his hand was about to enter the Timber Shed, when the refugee raised the alarm and called for help of the Civilian JTF.
The young vigilante, who participated in the arrest, futher narrated that the suspect was neutralised and confessed of being a Boko Haram member for the fear of being lynched. He also promised to provide some useful information, including those that can lead to arrest of other terrorists who have already infiltrated Maiduguri, Kasuwan Gwoza area in particular. In exchange, he asked to spare his life.
The suspect has also confessed killing the brother of the displaced person and many others during terrorist raids on communities.
The vigilantes believed him and did not kill the sect member on the spot. Instead, they have handed him over to soldiers.
Civilian JTF works in close contact with security operatives. The youths watch the area and make it difficult for Boko Haram members to operate openly in the Maiduguri metropolis.
More and more people seek refuge in the city. Over 6,000 left their villages in the month of June only, begging for safety due to endless Boko Haram attacks on villages in Borno State, especially around Bama, Gwoza and Konduga local government areas.

Sharing of gifts items at Election campaign is no longer news but now becoming a tradition to buy the hearts of citizens.

Is this to say the hearts of the citizens can be bought with just a gift? Where is our stand as citizens of Nigeria? This is not condemning any electoral campaign whatsoever, but trying to win the heart of a citizen with a bag of rice like the picture above. Or how best can we describe this?

Recently, people lined up to receive their bags of rice at different electoral campaigns of different parties’ .Some who received the rice from both parties seem very happy and flaunted it everywhere. While some others still criticized that the rice PDP gave out was better than APC rice. Funny though.

Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde didn’t find this funny as she describes such act of distributing things at election campaigns, bribery and corruption.

Here is what she wrote on her twitter handle on seeing the way rice where been distributed to people. “Isn't sharing of things during elections by political parties, bribery and corruption/manipulation? Why is this not a crime under the law?” she wrote.
