The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Ayotunde Phillips on Tuesday freed 75 prisons inmates of the Kirikiri Prisons.

Seventy-one of the inmates were released from the medium section of the prison, three from maximum and one from the female prisons.

The majority of the inmates who were set free by the Chief Judge were still awaiting trial prior to their reprieve.

In releasing the inmates, the Chief Judge acted upon the powers conferred on her under Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Justice Release from Custody Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2007.

The chief judge who will retire from service next month had previously released over 672 inmates from the same prison.

She urged the newly freed inmates to be of good behaviour as they return to the society.

The Deputy Commissioner of Prisons, Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Mr. Olu Tinuoye, thanked the CJ for the gesture, saying that her administation has significantly reduced the number of awaiting trial inmates in the prisons.

While also thanking the Chief Judge for her efforts in decongesting the prisons, the Deputy Commissioner of Prison in charge of the Kirikiri female prisons, Mrs. Leticia Isioma Onwuli, lamented the poor state of health facilities in the prisons.

She said the Kirikiri female prison clinic located within the prison facility currently lacks adequate equipment to deal with the increasing challenge of female inmates especially the pregnant inmates.

She noted that the prison’s female clinic lacks the necessary equipment to deal with the health challenges of the inmates especially pregnant ones.

The DCP said the Kirikiri female prison facility currently has 205 inmates of which 170 are awaiting trial, 32 convicted, two condemned, one serving life sentence, eight pregnant women and nine mothers with babies.

She pleaded with the Chief Judge to appeal to the state government to provide rebate for female inmates who are referred to the General Hospital for treatment.

A commercial sex worker in Bayelsa state reportedly stabbed a soldier soldier attached to the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Pulo Shield to death over his refusal to pay for a daybreak sex romp.
The Nation reports that the soldier whose name has been kept under wraps was reportedly stabbed twice in his stomach by the prostitute at about 4a.m. on Tuesday.
Some of the prostitutes said he died immediately after he was stabbed, while some others said he died later in a hospital.
Recounting what happened, one of the prostitutes who pleaded anonymity said, "After the soldier refused to pay, there was an argument very early in the morning. The girl who was angry grabbed a knife and stabbed the soldier in the stomach. We later saw the soldier struggling with blood flowing from the wound in his stomach.
"We are now living in fear because there may be reprisal from other soldiers. Most of us have decided to stay away from the area for sometime."
The incident was said to have left other prostitutes at the popular redlight district known as Hospital Road Junction along DSP Alamieyeseigha Way, Yenagoa in panic.
Some others who patronized the prostitutes and were still in their shanties with them were said to have hurriedly dressed up and left the area to avoid getting into trouble.
Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hilary Opara, said the culprit had been arrested, adding that the  police had yet to receive report of the victim’s death.

A 35 -year old woman named Esohe Ogbeiwi has allegedly roasted her ex-lover, Peter Osayi to death in Edo state following a dispute.
According to family members, the deceased had a dispute with the suspect who had two children for him and she was said to have invited him for settlement.
He went to her house for the settlement, unknown to him that she had planned his death. At the point of settlement, she was said to have poured petrol on him after which she lit a match and set him ablaze.
The Nation reports that Osayi was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) but unfortunately, he died a day later.
Esohe was subsequently arrested by the police in Edo State and the case transferred to the homicide department of the Nigerian Police.
The victim's brother who gave his name as Moses is calling on the government to give the family justice.
He said, "We want government to give us justice. He was roasted alive. My brother told me before his death that the assailant did not allow him escape."
Confirming the incident, Police spokesman, DSP Uwoh Noble said investigations were still on.

Two structures belonging suspected kidnappers in Ogidi and Ojoto communities in Idemili North and South Local Government Areas of Anambra state were demolished on Tuesday by the police.
The demolition came on the heels of the arrest and subsequent parade of 17 suspects before journalists.
Leadership reports that the demolition squad was led by the state police commissioner, Mr Usman Gwary and accompanied by Mr James Nwafor the Commander of the state’s Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Giving the names of the suspects and the crimes they committed, the commissioner said Chigozie Ezeora and Chukwudi Ugwu who were dealing on ammunition were arrested with a large number of ammunition.
He said two others, Nnaemeka Ugonna and Onyeka Okoli were nabbed in the commercial city of Onitsha for alleged motorcycle robbery while five girls, Oluchukwu Yoko, Charity Ahue, Odo Maryann, Chukwueloka Chioma and Orji Chinelo were involved in faking products.
He gave the names of three other suspects as Ndubuisi Udokoro, Lawrence Nweze and Moredays Chukwuma.
According to Gwary, the paraded suspects were accused of kidnap, armed robbery, hijacking of goods and faking of vehicle number plates and licences.
The suspects were said to have kept about 14 kidnap victims while also earning over 100 million naira through their victims.
“In line with the provisions of the law of Anambra State, the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has revoked the certificate of occupancy and has equally ordered its demolition.
“Any building used for any form of crime or built with the proceeds of crime in the state must be demolished,” Gwary said.
The police have been trying in their job. On June 15, at least 63 members of a cultist group "Black Axe" were arrested by the Akwa Ibom Police Command at Effoi village forest, near Eket.
Two suspected robbers were killed by officials of the Special Anti Robbery Squad attached to the Ogun State Police Command sometime in June in a shootout at their hideout in Epe area of Lagos State.

This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back”. Those were the words posted by dad Andre Curry on a sickening picture of his little daughter gagged, bound hand and foot with what looked like colored tape. The picture also showed a baby on the edge of the bed, very close to falling off.

This picture was posted on facebook which prompted a huge backlash and has now sparked a police investigation.

A friend of Andre, Je’Vanna Cobbins has tried to come to his defense saying Andre was just playing around,’ and would never do anything to harm anyone.’

She said:  [He was] being playful with his child. People play with their child differently.

A police spokesman .at the Chicago Police Department who said they were tipped off to the photo have confirmed it’s being looked into.

While Andre has since taken the photo off Facebook, the image has spread on the internet with angry users targeting his page.

Man Beats Wife’s 8 months Pregnant Friend to Death

A middle-aged pregnant woman, Mrs. Lateefat Odediran, was last Saturday allegedly beaten to death by the husband of one of her friends at Ibala area of Ede, Osun State. It was gathered that the deceased who had eight months pregnancy had a quarrel with one of her friends and neighbour identified as Tawakalitu Musibau and the quarrel degenerated into exchange of fisticuff.

We was reliably informed that Mrs. Odediran was given the beating of her life by Mrs. Musibau who was later joined by her husband who allegedly used sharp objects to beat the woman to the point of death. The incident threw the entire Ibala area of the town into mourning and efforts by residents of the area to get the man arrested proved a*ortive as he fled immediately Mrs. Odediran gave up the ghost.

However, it was gathered that Mrs. Musibau who had issues with the deceased had been arrested by the police in Ede and efforts were on by the police to arrest the fleeing suspect. Also, the police are currently on the trail of some residents of the area who could be traced to the untimely death of the woman.

It was reliably gathered that an argument had earlier ensued between the deceased and Mrs. Musibau, which degenerated into a crisis. Details of what led to the argument between the two friends could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report but it was gathered that domestic issues could have been the cause of the argument.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the state command of the Nigeria Police, Mrs. Folashade Odoro, who confirmed the incident said the police were still investigating the matter.

Boko Haram men this evening attacked a football viewing center in Damaturu, Yobe State during a live football match between Brazil and Mexico in the ongoing world cup in Brazil.

The sect men reportedly hauled explosives at the viewing center, injuring several people. Injured people were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Yobe state Police commissioner told AFP that they have deployed policemen to the scene and will give details on the incident later...
